All storm wardens have a human servant on hand to draw their claymores for them. This mortal servant is known as a Melvin, or "sword-friend".
The Storm Wardens take their Melvins extremely seriously. A Melvin is allowed no weapons, and is forbidden from wielding the claymore themselves. If a marine's Melvin dies, it is acceptable for another marine to draw the claymore for them in the heat of battle, but drawing one's own sword for any reason is a strict taboo.

Outside of battle, they are transported by piggyback ride.

You'll notice that the Melvin carries a knife on his back. Although he is not allowed to wield weapons in battle, if the Storm Warden he is assigned to dies, he is permitted to use the knife to take his own life in shame.
