The Hanged

Ultramarines for becoming the most hated chapter a couple editions ago due to bad writing from a particular author. As always seems to be the case with Warhammer fans, people really took this to the next level. Irrational levels of hate. I remember I was back in high school during those times, and a friend of mine borrows my Ultramarines omnibus only to give it back the next day because he felt that the smurfs "follow the rules too much". Hint: the Ultramarines books are about a captain who's the successor to a captain who did things unconventionally and how he himself follows suit. Nigga didn't even read the entire prologue chapter because of the Ultra smurfs hate.

Well, 40K is THE tabletop wargame, so a good number of less hardcore nerds (and yes, normies) know about it.

Also, you're seriously overestimating DoW's visibility outside of strategy gamers and people who were already fans of the franchise. Most video gamers don't care about RTS titles anymore, and haven't since the mid-2000s if not earlier.

I first started reading Gaunts Ghosts back in 2000 (was 10) noticed they had figurines, got into SM (11), then Tau (2005), then CSM IW (2007). And when DoW came out I made all my friends buy it because they wouldn't play tabletop with me and they liked RTS.

Eh, I've actually met a surprising number of people who have heard of the TT game, and actually seemed somewhat interested. Dawn of War, while being popular, isn't all that popular for a video game. It's got a solid following, but it's got drastically smaller fanbase than, say, C&C, EU/CK, Civ, Supreme Commander, AoE, etc. It's not that exceptional when it comes to strategy games.

The biggest thing that keeps people out of tabletop is the price, IMO. Most people think it's actually pretty interesting, but "I don't have the time/patience/money to do it."
