Demeanour: Suffer Not the Alien to Live - Xenos? *BLAM* No.

Chapter's flaw: Faith in Suspicion - The Chapter particularly hates a single Imperial institution, and refuses to work with them.
Who do they hate? - Adeptus Astra Telepathica

Our founding legend - The individual was a stalwart enemy of the servants of Chaos, and slew a Daemon Prince. the Daemon slayer was someone from another chapter... maybe a figure like Orar to us.

our chapter has its base on a Medieval World, which is a Wasteland.
It is ruled distantly: You see that castle up there? It's inhabited by the mighty sky-warriors of Emp-rar. Sometimes they come and steal our children

Chapter organisation is: Codex-adhherent - two rolls infact. (When you dont know who your geneseed came from, it pays to play by the rules.)
Combat Doctrine is: Armoured assault.
Chapter Strength is: Nominal: The Chapter can field ten full companies, each with ten squads. In all likelihood most every squad consist of ten brethren and some specialised appointments may be empty, but the Chapter is regarded as fully fit for battle.
>>

I beleive we should be named after our figure of legend, much like the SOns of Orar.

>>
So I guess color scheme next? Or our coat of arms/heraldry?

Rereading the thread -also got my vox looked at finally, and by that I mean I head-butted a wall until it fixed itself- and check the wording again;

>A Battle-Brother seconded from a previous generation Successor or even the First Founding Legion that provided the new Chapter’s gene-seed. Roll again on this table to determine what type of warrior he was, rerolling if you get this result again

The hero was from our progenitor chapter/legion. Not an unrelated one.
We also didn't roll what role he filled on that chart. Could be a forge master, apothecary, scout or anything.

Maybe we want to roll that. Maybe we don't.
>>
>>49759291
Lets not. Leave everything as ambiguous as possible. Its a mystery we have become obsessed with and search for answers as we serve the Emperor, hence why we are buddies with the inquisiton who help us in our search

>>49759291
Ok, rolling for it
>>
>>49759308
>>49759312

>>
SO, 'we are The Fatherless.

Our Chapter was forged in fire on,our homeworld, swept up in great invasion by the forces of chaos.

It was here Our father slew the great Prince who lead the fould Daemonic forces, after which he layed down several edicts for the chapter, and dissapeared.

We search for him ever more'

My attempt at a rough summary I dunno, what you think thread?
>>
>>49759308
So, we don't know from which gene-stock we come from, or even the figure of legend progenitor's identity?
Fair enough. Don't need to worship smurfs this way at least.

>>49759312
Yeah that's pretty bland. Maybe it's the Chapter's belief for now thouhg, "We're not sure but from the evidence we DO have we're pretty sure he was a Chapter Master. Probably. I mean he might not have been, but we're fairly sure about it."

>>49759483

>>
>>49759464
>If we don't much like sanctioned psykers,

>>49759419 What CSM Group do we hate?

How much could we have been traumatised by a tzeentchian sorcerous plan which managed to seize control of the planetary system/region though the sanctioned psykers....

Enough that even now, 4000 years later we refuse to trust them?
>>
>>49759555
THAT

Is really good, like kinda perfect.

I say this, gives us our CSM group and why he hate sanctioned psykers
>>
>>49759098

We're light sensitive, descended from an unknown or Traitor legion, hate Chaos Space Marines, and our founder was a battle brother who slew a daemon prince. Night Lords warband with one marine who defected back to the Emprah, slaying a daemon prince in the process?
>>
>>49759555
JUST AS PLANNED
>>
>>49759358
>>49759353

Perhaps the legendary figure saved the chapter world before the chapter was even founded. All recruits from that world are familiar with the legendary savior, which is how it became entrenched in chapter culture.
>>
>>49759575
I feel like saying exactly who our progenitor is and who the figure was takes away from the chapter.

Besides, other than that we are nothing like the Nightlords even pre heresy. Lets just keep it mysterious guys, there is not a need to plan out and decide everything, the mystery of our past gives us fuel for where the chapter will go so lets just keep it that way.

We don't know who our progenitor is.

We don't know who our father was.

We. Don't. Know.

Which is what drives us
>>
>>49759613

We don't know who our progenitor is.

We don't know who our father was.

We. Don't. Know.

Which is what drives us

Thats pretty well written, could be the chapters motto or a quote perhaps?
>>
>>49759555
>>49759567
if we take that further, then that tzeentchian plot didnt simply subvert the sanctioned psykers, but their actions caused so much ruin, than the area was shattered.

our medieval world, once a lush, medieval agri--world, was laid to waste, becoming a wasteland. All records of our founding were lost in the ruin that took place, the original chapter-fortress shattered byforces of Chaos, the databanks purged.
The sun itself was blotted out of the sky perhaps, becoming a dim, blackened and bloated tumour of a star, and as chaos tried to open a Gateway (to the eye of Terror?), it warped our loyal forces, and they adapted to the stygian twilight of their world, becoming more sensitive to the light, able to fight better in the long nights.

Now, 4000 years later, the world is only just at a medieval level again, slowly recovering from the impact of those subverted sanctioned psykers, whose actions after they became corrupted so very nearly opened a new front in the war against the Traitors.

Yes, no?
>>
>>49759669
Slow, genuine clapping
>>
>>49759613
I'm willing to bet there are theories within the Chapter, like the Chapter Master theory.
Night Lords is one that is discussed but.. nobody really wants that to be true.
Another more palatable theory is they're Ultramarine descended by way of some other Chapter which accounts for the drift in geneseed stability over time and various adjustments.
But then there are others who think otherwise. White Scars perhaps? Thousand Sons?

It's a fairly popular small talk discussion to help break the ice in the Chapter, who do you think HE was?
>>
>>49759651
Sure. Maybe an Edict of the Chapter, a sort of mantra or prayer

>>49759669
Fucking yes, perfect!
>>
>>49759699
Oh absolutely, its hotly discussed and debated withinn tha chapter, maybe even little groups who believe certain things form causing niches within the chapter?
>>
>>49759717
And then there's that one serf who thinks He was Sly Marbo.
Nobody can convince him that's chronologically and genetically impossible. Damn fine serf though aside from that.
>>
Well, finally going to sleep, keep The Fatherless thread alive guys!
>>
Anyone have ideas for a color scheme or heraldry? Even if you don't think its good suggest it, just throw ideas at the wall, see what sticks
>>
>>49759893
For colour, maybe something like unpainted ceramite (not that I know what it looks like without dyes) with a coloured trim? Try to symbolise the fact that they don't know who they are at their core and thus lack the core decoration.

Not sure about the symbol. Blindfolded skull or something?

It the homeworld was once an agriworld or similar, I wonder if the medieval locals occasionally scrounge up some old tech. Be funny if one found what to them is an ancient great sword of amazing magic, became chieftain of their tribe and then one day a Fatherless comes by, takes it and thanks them for finding his old power sword.
But don't forget to tribute the marines any found tech in the future. You could kill yourself next time, messing about with this.

I'm actually thinking the homeworld may once have been a higher-tech agri-world, with cities.

perhaps the recruitment of chapter initiates is through them entering the haunted ruins of those cities, quested to return with archaeotech data.

I'm also inclined to avoid the tired old pseudo-medieval european base for the chapter's style.

Wonder what a chapter based on warriors from Benin, the Masai, or the Zulus would be like? Maybe the people are animal herders, rather than agri-world raising crops, that wouldnt grow in the half-light of that blackened sun. Herds of cattle, that make the export to other worlds.

I propose that at the moment of being elevated from scout to marine, a neophyte must stay a whole day staring at the sun without his helmet on.
If he flinches even for a moment he must do the scout training all over again (or die)

Cant help but think, that armoured vehicles, and the whole light-sensitive flaw might mean that the vast majority of their vehicles were 100% enclosed...

I just have this image of Space marines inside a tank, all dim aside from a very faint red light. It's almost akin to the inside of a submerged submarine.
The other image I have is the idea of the chapter about to ambush the enemy at night but the 10 seconds following the first few shots is an absolute clusterfuck of blind-firing and multiple "MY EYEEEEES" sounding out from the force.

I like it, but know nothing about these cultures. Could you wenlighten me on them a bit?

Hilarious

I think this both makes sense, sounds badass and can add a nice level of intimidation to the chapter
