Reposting because the last thread died:

How is the cue system? Lately I've gotten more into games where character background is either selected from pre-made packages or just a series of words/phrases.

I'm also interested in the semi-GM nature of the system but I don't really understand it. From what I read the GM seems to just sit and referee while the players do what the GM usually does.
>>
>>49756776
Most of Anarchy's page count is pregren character examples and some setting info, so don't listen to the anon that says it's GIGANTIC. It's a long read for a rules-light game, but only by a little, if you don't compare it to ones that come in a single page.

The cue system is a bit unreliable, mostly because not everyone is in the right mindset to play the kind of game Anarchy is. Everyone has to be aware of how it works, and players should remind each other.

The GM thing is just as you say, though obviously they still get to set the scene, introduce NPCs and play the antagonists. What the players get is a bunch of buttons that insert challenge into a situation. They work well so the bruisers, sammies and bunnies can have something to do at all times.

Optional rules can take these powers away, but I think that's mostly there to appease people who won't give it a chance.

Putting together a shadowrun campaign.

I'm fine with the rules but I can't for the life of me work out how to describe the matrix or even know what peoples options are while in the matrix.

I've read the book, I need something else I can read/watch.

Is there a resource that can help me with this?
>>
>>49758137
Tron? That scene in the Matrix where Neo sees the code?
>>
Mechanically, what's the best datajack for an Adept?
>>
>>49758219
Trodes?
>>
>>49758219
None? You usually don't want to lose essence as an adept.
>>
>>49758137
Anarchy's matrix rules are a lot smaller, you might be able to frankenstein it.

As for what the matrix IS, it depends on if its AR or VR.

In AR its just our world with a fps hub on it, little pop ups here and there and a quest marker to let you know the best path to take that shit you've been holding in.

In VR it looks like whatever YOU want usually, in the same way you can customize what your web browser or desktop look like.

Until you get to specific nodes where its based on what that person wants it to look like. For instance jackpoint looks like the matrix in the video games, however Dante's Inferno looks like the nightclub itself. Complete with sleezy succubus waitress.
>>
>>49758262
Or at least get a full point of essence to use it more efficiently
>>
>>49758291
I'm suprised a essenceless datajack hasn't been developed yet, the things are so common youd assume you'll have some big brand name ones.

Had to look up a few of those things but this is helping. From what I understand, AR is a projection onto reality.

VR still goes over my head. I'll give Anarchy a read and see if that's more compatible with my head chip.

If you use the trode paste then I guess that it may shift, though probably not much
If you use normal trodes on their own then yeah, if you don't put them on tight they could fall off
If you follow >>49758569 and put them in your clothes, whether in a hat/helmet or in some other piece then you have to take the piece of clothing off to lose contact

Two questions. One, for relatively high level runners how willing are you to have their choices impact the actual state of the setting?

Two, have you ever done a run in space/involving space?

I ask because I'm wanting to do a run involving stealing data about Mars or an artifact from there.

Actually, follow up question. Is there any reason for the covering up of the Fourth World at this point? I know early on it may have caused a bit of a stir but by the late 2060s I imagine most people have come to terms with magic. The Immortal Elves are more or less public, dragons are accepted, and you have shit like the shedim and insect spirits popping up.

Who's interests would it be in to cover up discoveries on Mars or Earth?
>>
>>49759802
>The Immortal Elves are more or less public
??
since when?
>>
>>49759845
Ah, you're right they're not public. I just assumed for a second that because Harlequin posts on Shadowlands and Ehran runs a legitimate institution their true natures were out there to the public.

Still, it actually strikes me as even stranger then that they are hiding/not disclosing it to the wider public. What do they have to gain? What do they have to lose?
>>
>>49759877
Besides proving humanis right about the elvinatti?
>>
>>49759802
The cult of the smoking mirror wants to bring about the end of the world, so there's might be some bit of knowledge they want to keep hidden so they can continue with their plans. The Black Lodge might do something similar, especially if the immortal humans are at the top

It would be more about hiding details, rather than pretending it never happened.
>>
>>49759877
Most likely trying to prevent a panic

Also: AFAIR they are not hiding the whole fourth World, that'd be stupid
they are hiding some aspects, like their nature, the whole power of dragons
and of course the Horrors/Enemy
while in secret looking to guide Metahumanity towards a path, in which we will be able to stand against the horrors

>Immortal humans

Hey who what now?

>>49759888
At this point, what are they gonna do? Hell, it might even destroy Humanis. How do you fight for human superiority knowing your enemies are actually all they're cracked up to be?

>>49759927
Fair enough.

In any case, more focused on Mars. Is there any information out there about how magic works there?
>>
>>49759916
>cult of the smoking mirror

I just knew it would have something to do with cancersticks
>>
>>49760013
>how magic works there?
it doesn't, just like in space
except for the EVO lab since they most likely have enough plants for a makeshift manasphere
>>
>>49760052
I mean, they found a bunch of pyramids and a dragon skeleton. So it must have worked there at some point right? Unless science is totally wacky in Shadowrun and Mars used to be habitable much more recently, that point would be hundreds of millions of years ago. So how did the pyramids get built?

Unless, of course, the first world was dinosaurs and they did it.
>>
>>49760094

Dragons probably making slave races and shit.
>>
>>49760013
Humanis is based on FEAR not superiority, just like every other hate group.

Nazis didn't ban together against jews because they thought jews were powerless weaklings, they thought they were genius masterminds who puppeted the world.

And the last thing the immortals need is Azzies doing to them what they did to Sirrug.

didn't see there was a new thread, so I asked a question in another shadowrun thread.

Are there stats for mortars in any of the splats for 5e?
>>
>>49760208
It's absence of life that makes magic stop working, so if some point in the past Mars was inhabited presumably would have had the same or a similar mana cycle to earth. So maybe it's dead because the horrors ate it.
>>
>>49760454
There isn't any mention of Mars colonies in Earthdawn. Must have been Second World.
>>
>>49756401
So are teargas grenades in common use? They seem cheaper and better then flashbangs. Though I guess a mix of the two also works pretty well.

Depends on what you want to use them for and who you're fighting. Keep in mind that tear-gas only takes effect at the end of the combat turn, so tossing it at the start of a round will not necessarily stop the street sam from butchering your guys.

Generally grenades and explosives are best applied as a solution to a specific problem rather than forming a core part of your toolkit.

I'm going to run a modified run of that London Calling run where the politician is a ghoul. Basically the whole underground complex will be deeper and there'll be a lot more ghouls attacking the party. My question is:

I have two heavily kitted out melee characters, what with lots of armor and big ass troll sized swords. How do I make ghouls a threat to them? I know if a mob gangs up on them, its a cumulative -1 defense for every attacker hitting the player, but with their 20+ armor dice they should have no problem withstanding STR+1+net hits. How do I make a mob of generic ghouls dangerous to them while keeping the encounter balanced for the rest of the players?

But did you erase forensic/trideo evidence? Bullets and the like might not provide much in the way of physical clues (cleaning the barrels changes the rifling significantly-enough to make that kind of identification impossible), but magic can still trace you easily. Best to turn this in discretely through a third-party that you trust and burn your SINs (you might have to include your the comlinks) you were using if the place was a serious location (they had actual security or were guarding something valuable).

AR is Augmented Reality. It's Google Glass basically. You can look up a ton of real world prototypes for that stuff already.

VR is you replacing the data input from your eyes and ears and everything with the input from your Direct Neural Interface (DNI), provided by Datajacks or Trodes.
It means completly switching off the real world and submersing yourself into a dream like state where you are literally inside the matrix. There's a bunch of descriptions of the general Hubs in the little story blurbs spread out through the books. Check out Datatrail for some more focused narrative. But the general idea is like this:
You enter a "grid". A grid is unique to your internet service provider. Classically there's the public grid, provided by your city. It's free and it's shit. It's typically designed by the web designers to look like the city itself with some artistic freedom mixed in.
Then there's the grid of each of the megas. Which design themselves to fit corp policy. This is where millions of corp cititzens log into the web on a daily basis, so it's all about R&R, and providing a stable and productive environment.
You can switch grids on the fly. Technically you're only allowed to enter grids you are subscribed to, but hackers don't bother with such small details. You can see all the different grids from wherever you are. In one story they're described as sitting "on the horizon" and being represented by the different mega's logos. Except fully animated and really shiny.

That's the "ground level" of VR. The "streets and buildings" that represent services and locations in the web as offered by the grid you are in currently. But why would you limit yourself to 2d if gravity is optional?

In the sky there fly the "hosts". Grid independent servers owned by whoever deals out some money for it. Anyone and their grandmother can own a host if they want to. These dot the sky of the virtual world, and they too look like whatever the owners feel like at the moment.
>>
>>49765073
As long as you had a mage cast cleanse, used a grenade that cleans the area, and/or didn't leave anything directly connected to you, you should be fine, then.

Be cautious just in case, but you did a decent job.
>>
>>49765126
We used a few grenades and the only people shooting were the ones with the HMG.

Surprisingly for ramming a casino in the middle of the day, nobody died.

...no civilians died.

>>49765104 (cont.)

A host can look like virtually anything. Why not have your chick coctail club be a flying cocktail in the sky, with a neon banner circling it like the rings of Saturn advertising the latest special. All you have to do to enter is "reach out and touch it" and easy as that, the host authorises you to enter and you're suddenly in a fancy bar, with some nice jazz playing and a virtual bartender asking you what sort of cocktail you'd like to pretend you're drinking. Your brain can't tell the different anyways.

With me so far? That's the basic idea. But the user can customise things to their liking. You are a shaman and hate the concrete jungle that represents your public grid? No worries, you can install a custom theme and now all the buildings that represent different local shops and city services are displayed as massive trees to you, and you can swing through a real jungle like Tarzan.
VR is designed by professionals, and customised by the user. Like anything virtual. Your phone or your desktop. And as GM, you're the web designer.
>>
>>49765164
So, yet again, Chummer, be careful. Killing a profitable business earns enemies (and a bunch of employee deaths is the reason why SnS was the preferred ammo type in 4e, not ignoring it's relative power and decent cost). You cleaned out the evidence and the like, which was fairly smart, but someone might still look.
>>
>>49762413
Wait, what's the actual context?
>>
>>49765441
Nothing special; gun buy-back in Seattle back in 2013. Those gold squares indicate it's a training device.

TECHNICALLY it's illegal to own as it's military property, but since they're single-use and can't be re-used it's more or less a no-harm, no-foul thing.

I think mortars would be better off just using gunnery. It's a niche weapon to begin with, even ignoring the skillset required. Plus, with the exception of trench mortars, most mortars are large enough that you're better off riveting them to a vehicle anyway.

And if I need a rare and exotic thing, which I can only buy in China, not in Seattle? How will I find the thing I need, and how fast I will be "transported" here in-Matrix? Considering there are distance and location factors in Matrix (noise, signal reduction, ping, etc.).

I would say that traditional crew served mortars use gunnery due to being much different in usage than grenade launchers or other heavy weapons. Their weight (55kg+) and being made from few different parts is too unhandly to be used alone, but as we are in future there is modern solutions that can be used.

>60mm Light Mortar
Can be carried by one strong enough guy by either hand or by bagpack. It is light enough to not need proper bracing thanks to composites. Can be either fired manually with heavy weapons. Range would be 0m-500m

>81mm+ Mortars
They either require multi man crew or they are fixed to drone or vehicle. Due to their different way of usage they require gunnery. Range is 50m-7km+

Botg of these require somebody to manually load them, but heavier breechloading mortars could truly be automatic. Though breechloaders would automatically be either on wheels or bolted on drone/vehicle.

These advanced mortars would work pretty easily thanks to SRs location finding and other things. Rigger could just point at target with his smart gun and issue command to the automatic mortar which could fire for effect.

If questions please ask.

>>
>>49767347
Also USA has developed a mortar system for their firebases. It weights a lot, but it only requires one guy who can use it.

It automatically receives forwarded fire missions and with push of a button automatically swings into right direction. The crew member then just loads and fires the mortar.

I can see that being the technology of the the SR future with drones and vehicles carrying them around.

>Assistant Sight guy
He assists on sighting. Carries the tube.

>20+ armor dice
20 armor and 4 body averages to soaking 8 points of damage. Not only can Ghouls have freakishly high Strength (especially if they're ghouled orks, for example), half the time they're going to roll BELOW, rather than ABOVE average.

Two or three unlucky hits and they're going to be seriously fucked.

All of that armor is a huge advantage, but not one that makes a bigass pack of ghouls some kind of irrelevant nuisance rather than a serious threat.

Nah hes saying Shiiawase is interesting and the person's "oh shiwase more like snoreawse" is really there thing.

Shiawase is, more then any other nation, the men behind the curtain. Shiawase is the oldest mega in existence, and it has the most tricks as well as being THE bioware people, not evo.

They are also the men behind the curtain, Shiwase plays circles around the other corps, and lets them make buld r&d developments and simply choose to steal those and make better versions of their own ware.

Shiawase are also the only corp thats TRUELY religious, and are deeply entrenched in shinto lore.

They chase profits not headlines, they are one of the most powerful groups in the world and yet have managed to avoid needing groups like Red Samurai or Drake Prime to supplement them.

Shiawase: Advancing Life.
>>
>>49768639
That's because Shiawase was a bigger player in older editions. I don't keep up on newer editions, but seeing how little I see them mentioned, they've likely fallen to the EVO/Horizon favoritism.
In for example 3e, they were the quintessential polite but dodgy megacorp - impeccably polite and businesslike on the outside, but when they need shadowrunners, you know that something's wrong. They had a lot of internal politics and philosophical goals going on, and next to no moral backbone - they were ceremony and fairness over moral fabric, because they were the biggest and they knew it. When something required shadowrunners for them to do it, it was going to be dirty and unpleasant.
It's not like there's an official ranking, but on the list of 3e corps you'd least want to run for (but who pay correspondingly), we have Aztechnology, Shiawase and then Saeder-Krupp.
>>
>>49768683
Shiawase lifer pls go.

But seriously you are right. They are the top Megacorp there is. They don't have to flex their muscles or try to look special. They are Shiawase. The name itself has the power.

While they aren't the top (Thats mct) it says a lot they went up 3 places without doing ANYTHING (as far as you know). They also are supposed to have the greatest spy network, not Horizon, not Renraku.

Renraku owns most of the data japan has, and Horizon has the chops the make you believe whatever they want to, but Shiwase knows.

It's like Baskin Robbins. They always find out.

They are nicer to fun for however at the moment. They are all about family and ceremony but MCT has become the group that steals your pinkies for failing them.

Shiawase is the OLDEST, not largest. Its actually the smallest right now.

Shiawase is the 5th largest in the world (The rankings got updated after various new stuff like Sirrug getting taken down), Renraku is 3rd and MCT currently is bigger then the Dragon.

Which Lofwyr is NOT a happy camper about.

First time playing shadowrun (not first time playing a PnP RPG)

we are using 4e

We have 350BP

I'm trying to build a combination wheelman and street samurai or tank. How possible is this?

I've posted what's on my character sheet in the pic.

Story wise they were a member of a now defunct gang where they served as a wheelman and bodyguard for the boss.

He's been itinerant for around a year and slowly loosing money. He was offered a job while passing though Denver and decided to take the opportunity to make some money.

His current vehicle is what he's been living out of since his his old life collapes an is more optimized for not being bothered than for running. (It's a used camper truck [Gaz P-179] fitted with morphing license plates, Chameleon coating and GridLink Override)

numbers on vehicle.
Gaz P-179 {Arsenal 109/10} (New $12,000) (High used $9,600) (low used $6,000) {arsenal pg 104}
Morphing License Plate (1000) {arsenal pg 105}
5 run flat tires [4 in use 1 spare] (1250) {arsenal pg 106}
Chameleon coating. (14000) {arsenal pg 133}
GridLink Override (2000) {arsenal pg 136/7}
(High used 27850) (low used 24250)
Rigger Adaptation (2500) {arsenal pg 141/2}
(High used 30350) (low used 26750)

Hey /srg/, I could use your input on something. I'm trying to design some cutting-edge equipment, either tu use as McGuffins for runs or as rewards. Rather than going for purely better numbers, I'd like to try a few things that offer interesting choices for the players.

Here is what I have so far:

>Hardware scanner
This helmet-mounted scanner incorporates a high-end commlink with a specialised Agent module. It is able to scans the wearer's field of view for hidden wireless-active devices and displays their location in AR.
>Rating 8 commlink. On command, the integrated Rating 4 Agent performs Matrix Perception, looking for silent icons in the field of view of the user, then Trace Icon (without the need for marks). Takes [4] capacity in a helmet.

>Chi Accumulator
Worn as a harness on the chest, this contraption allows the wearer to sub-consciously adjust the flow of his own energy.
>Whenever the wearer should regain Edge, he can instead chose to win 1 Karma.

>Seeking rounds
These specially designed Assault Cannon rounds feature a two-stage propulsion mechanism and an intricate system of stabilization fins, allowing the projectile to alter it's course in-flight.
>Requires a Take Aim action to activate. Applies a -5 defence modifier to the target.

>Jetpack
Combining milspec drone thrusters with quickened spells, this backpack grants it's user unparalleled mobility.
>Counts as either a Levitate spell with 3 successes or a Movement power at Magic 3.

Do you have more ideas? Things that feel cyberpunk but are not available yet? Bonus points if they integrate magic at the same time.
>>
>>49773840
The other one is Brave Ones which are deep infiltrators.

But i found out MCT, they are mentioned in Street Grimoire, Research Unit 13. Which is around 12 of the most powerful mages in the world.
>>
>>49773748
>>49773911
Mitsuhama is not the kind to send HTR. They have Petrovski Security and Parashield to provide first response, and zero-zones to take care of more serious threats. If something goes through all that, and causes serious damage to MCT, then perhaps they will send a member or Unit 13
>>
>>49773858

>>
>>49773994
>Once per week/month you get 1 karma extra

>>
>>49773924
Zero Zones are ZONES not responses.

A Zero zone means that anyone in that area is dead.

Unit 13 also as mentioned in the bios are the guys in charge of security and if you slight them its very very bad for them.

So its not unlikely to get one on your ass if you run against MCT so they dont get DISHONARABU.

Shiwase's elite anti runner groups seems to be.... the Market Information and Forecasting Department. Which happens to be one of the greatest espionage groups in the business.

So if you piss of Shiawase they know, if you help Shiawase they know. If you are holding in a shit they know.

These fuckers probbably compile the companies christmas list.
>>
>>49774073
Responding to an attack is not always about chasing the attacker. As you emphasise with Shiawase, It can also be about knowing the attacker and having leverage on him. It can also be about showing overwhelming defence.

What I'm saying is not all AAAs have designated elite HTR because it is not in the philosophy of all corps to have one. Even the Dawkins Group is vastly different in its strategy from the Red Samurai or Firewatch.
>>
>>49774123
As far as I understand it we're compiling a list of who they send to fuck you up if you get too high on their kill-list and how they do it
In case of ARES that's a Firewatch team while you are on the shitter
In Shiawase's case it's most likely a small manila folder on your doorstep, filled with pictures of you through an entire day, yes ENTIRE day, even when you sleep, even when you shit. Just to send that simple message

So far
ARES- Firewatch
AZT- Eagle and Jaguar warriors, Brave and Shorn Ones
EVO- ??
Horizon- Dawkins Group
Mitsuhama- Research Unit 13
NeoNet- Celedyr's Knights of Rage
Renraku- Red Samurai
SK- SK Prime
Shiawase- Market Information and Forecasting Department
Wuxing- ??

Only EVO and Wuxing Left
>>
>>49774123
I get that but 13 mostly know combat spells, which implies a willingness to be crunchy and not just chief of security.

MRU are also MCT's troubleshooters so they likely will personally deal with issues that dishonored them (Especially if it can be done before the rest of the corp finds out).

DESU I assume all AAA teams have their own dedicated hrt because they have things that they do NOT want the other corps to find out, so they cant just outsource the job.

>>
>>49773858
The scanner sounds neat, but that's possibly a DIY project.

Free Karma OP

Seeking rounds are a good excuse for Wireless Bonus, but that's a hefty defense penalty.

Not sure the jetpack would work, but hey if it's specialized magic...

Here are a couple free ideas:

>Alchera Glove
A dual-natured glove originally used to interact with magic in laboratory settings. Has the curious property of enabling the wearer to "anchor" astral forms by grabbing them with the glove. Attempting to target a non-manifesting form without Astral Perceiving is counted as fighting blind. Once an astral form is grabbed, it is held to the wearer's physical position as though it were materialized, though it can easily break free or drag its captor through the air or into hazards.

>Explosive Tape
Experimental plastic explosives form factor. Tearing a single strip and applying it to a target within reach is a Complex Action - tearing activates the detonation nanomesh on the detached strip, giving you two Combat Turns to find cover. Each strip counts as 1kg of Rating 6 explosive, and the ease of use increases the Mental limit on the Demolitions test by 2. Otherwise it looks like normal duct tape. DO NOT glitch when using. Attempting to remove the tape (if it is noticed) is a Demolition test with a -2 penalty.

>Gecko Rounds
An attempt at less-lethal ammunition that didn't have a habit of filling in people's eyes and mouths with deadly glue (thanks freezefoam). Gecko rounds do 1S, but as long as they hit, the target takes a growing penalty to their actions as the Gecko bullets stuck to them start snagging and adhering to the environment or other parts of them.
>>
>>49774582
>Explosive Tape
Honestly? That product would be a fucking hit for people who need to use explosives
>Need a door/window demolished? Just prepare some tape around the form you want to make
>need a heavy enemy damaged? Just let your Infiltrator or Sammy sneak/run to them and apply some strips on their joints
I can honestly imagine that many teams just keep a roll or two of it in handy in case they need some explosives

While there's a high cost to raise those attributes, they're still already high, so it's not like you're not getting the benefits of those raised numbers.

It's factually incorrect to say karmagen penalizes orks and trolls when they are actually the two metatypes that come out ahead compared to humans.

A troll with 2 edge costs 100 karma.
A human with 5 bod and 5 str costs 140 karma.

A ork with 2 edge costs 60 karma.
A human with 4 bod and 3 str costs 70 karma.

Dwarves break even compared to humans.

Elves are actually the most penalized metatype in karmagen. An elf with 2 edge costs 50 karma, while a human with 2 agi and 3 cha costs 35 karma.

Is Initiative still maximum important in 5e? Should I bother with getting Improved Reflexes 3 with my Adept?
>>
>>49776326
Initative's still important, but IR 3 is probably overkill for most Adepts.

I mean, if you wanted to be an adept-decker that always takes Maximum Passes or any kind of combatant that always has Full Defense going, then you'd want IR 3 but in most cases you can just get one or two and later get a focus for emergencies.

What kind of adept are you? Social, melee combat, ranged combat?

For social, if you haven't gotten your fill of Commanding Voice or Cool Resolve, you want that. If you have, get like, one rank of Combat Sense and two of Danger Sense so that ambushes are less dangerous to you.

If you're melee, consider berserk or possibly even Adept Spell and a little spellcasting for something like Elemental Aura.

If ranged, either two ranks of Combat Sense or some misc stuff to boost range/ameliorate penalties depending on the kind of ranged you're doing.
>>
>>49776494
I was going for guns, desu. I'll look into Combat Sense.
>>

Combat Sense is extra defense dice. Other things you might also consider in mixed amounts include Pain Resistance and Rapid Healing, Cloak, Missile Parry, Rapid Draw, and the minor sneaking enhancing stuff.

Depends a bit on the kind of guns you're using and the strategies you want to employ.

Chummer has Personafix misspelled into Personaflix

I'm trying to build a runner that has a modded Skilljack/Skillwire combo with personafix recordings of all their dead friends, activesofts attached.

Is there an actual reason for Edge to not apply to activesofts or is that just CGL being a bunch of dicks?

I recommend Improved Reflexes 3 for literally every adept. It really is that good, especially since the price drops after that first level. It even enhances a Face adept, because it lets you make more Leadership tests to boost your allies and Commanding Voice tests to screw with your enemies in a given turn. Which is to say nothing of the benefit it provides to actual-combat.

That and the ever-useful Astral Perception are my automatic purchases on an Adept.

I was thinking something like a couple tubes set with an auto-loading system before the run. Set in range of the target. How intense is sighting on these things? Something reasonable to hand off to an pilot soft?

Also, I have always wondered, why are mortar shells droped into the tube? Would adding a breach loading system increase the weight to much? It just seems to add an unpredictable factor of how fast the shell is dropped.

Also, have mortars gotten any more accurate?

So, I don't like any of the grenade launcher options. I would like to make a character that can move around without impossible to hide military gear poking out of their trench coat.

How would one stat/cost a modernized stealthy M79 grenade launcher? Something with a folding stock and single round breach loading?
>>
>>49778165
Fair, thanks.

>>49778168
Kickass.
>>
>>49778304
I'm lazy, but I would just use the stats for the Ares Antioch-2 in the core book. House rule the single round breach loading, maybe say the cost of the folding stock mod and the drawback of the single loading cancel each other out?
>>
>>49778448
Or you could just add a folding stock as well the easy breakdown and/or chameleon coating upgrades from Hard Targets, I think it might have reduced mag size as a mod as well . It's not like concealment mods are hard and fast anyway so you're pretty much at the mercy of the GM to get an item like that.
>>
>>49778304
You Could also try getting a Cyber Grenade launcher, they're frigging expensive and are goign to require restricted gear but if you want a grenade launcher you can easily conceal that's probably your only RAW option. Getting it in a cyber-arm will save some essence, but it will consume the arm's entire capacity, so honestly you're probably better off just jamming it right into your body.
>>
>>49778448
Also, this reminds me of the various problems with grenade launcher pricing. A fully functional grenade launcher costs with a smartlink costs less then putting an underslung grenade launcher on your gun. A grenade launcher with a inbuilt smartlink costs segnificantly less then one with a slightly larger clip(if you are using more then 8 grenades without time to reload in between, I am woried for the state of your wallet) and semi-auto. Given the costing of adding a smartlink, this means a normal one would cost about 1067 ish yen. I guess the fact grenade launchers are going for a lowish threashold means you can split a dice pool for three shots and only miss a little bit... but again, that means wanting to throw away money hand over fist. On top of paying about 5x as much for the launcher.

>I was thinking something like a couple tubes set with an auto-loading system before the run. Set in range of the target. How intense is sighting on these things? Something reasonable to hand off to an pilot soft?

If the mortars automatically are sighted it really shouldn't be hard. As I said in the next post automatic sighting is already a thing. Programming or by wireless orders it should be doable

>Also, I have always wondered, why are mortar shells droped into the tube? Would adding a breach loading system increase the weight to much? It just seems to add an unpredictable factor of how fast the shell is dropped.

Simplicity in production. Mortar tubes are very cheap to make and due to the structure of the tube they are pretty sturdy. Breachloading mortars are thing for example 81mm 2b9 Vasilek which fires from magazine of round. But most breachloaders are 160mm+ size mortars where dropping the round is not practical. Breachloading mortars approach the territory of being howitzers. It is just about practicality. With light mortars it does make firing simultaneously bit harder, but it doesn't have much effect at target if the rounds arrive within 1 second. Heavier mortars 120mm+ use cord pulled strikers that allow simultaneous firing.

>Also, have mortars gotten any more accurate?

If location of mortar is known well and location of enemy is also known. Weather isn't terrible and you have weather data you can get easily within 10m of the target. Of course for 120mm+ mortars GPS and Laser guided rounds have been developed so pinpoint accuracy. While artillery is suitable for fucking shit up all over the place, mortars can be used to take single targets reliably.

I'm working on a Chess-themed Rigger in 4e and am pondering which drones to go with which role. Theming them off the Caïssa poem (With Caïssa as the runner name).

Pawns: Highly Expendable combat drones.
Castles: Heavy, high armour. Mobility is very secondary.
Archers: Something with a sniper rifle (Likely a flying drone)
Knights: High mobility, something for chasing down vehicles.
Queen: Otomo (About the only one I'm sure of)
King: Not a clue. I could use the Rigger herself as it but I'm not sure it's in-theme with her as the goddess by name.

Any thoughts on fitting drones?
>>
>>49780150
The point of a cyberpunk game isn't to change the status quo massively. That kills the feeling of powerlessness in the face of the corps, the mindless consumerism of society and the dragons (in SR).
If things can be changed that easily, plot holes open up, the setting itself starts to fall apart and you lose half of the things - be it mood, character archetypes, settings, plots or more or less whatever you can think of - that the setting gives to you.
It's a major setting overhaul that requires a lot of homebrew and deliberation, and it's insanely tricky to pull off in a setting with a strict status quo and with half of its content hinging upon the fact that it barely ever changes without sending the whole thing crumbling down.
Equating change with fun is what kills many games, whether it's D&D or Shadowrun. Some settings are built with plenty of flex, but a game like Shadowrun, which draws from its detailed society and firm status quo to provide content, will just end up suffering massively if you change things for the sake of causing change. The setting isn't built for you to follow up on it, nor to do it in general - if you break rules to get there, break rules to do it and break rules to play from there, you can as well play a homebrew.
You're strawmanning too - a game without players diverging from canon is likely to be infinitely more interesting than a full Henderson, because there's much more setting material to work with in an unchanged canon. It gives you time to focus on the characters instead of their deeds, allows you to keep the characters themselves from being derailed by the loss of scale, and in general allows you to benefit from everything in the rulebook in a saner, more controlled game.
Victory in cyberpunk is explicitly not about blowing up the system and changing everything. It's about fighting for ages and giving up dozens of lives to win back just one inch from the corporations - and even one inch is a start.

In part because I've picked up Improved Ability(Non-Combat). Not for anything potent but to give her a silly amount of Professional Knowledge: Combat Tactics (+2 Chess). The GM approved that as it was very in-theme.

Vehicle might work for the King, yeah.

Make the king a flying "eye-in-the sky" drone that gets the other data, firing solutions,... and acts as much as a "leader" for the others as possible.

Then add the largest bomb it can carry as a self-destruct system as a nasty surprise for the opponent in case of 'checkmate'.

>Is there an actual reason for Edge to not apply to activesofts
In 4e at least you had 2 different skillwire augs, of which one is the enhanced version of the other and thus allows you to use edge in those skills
Maybe CGL forgot to CTRL+V that aug from 4e
>>
>>49777181

The general reasoning why you can't apply edge is that skillwires/activesofts are not you. You are letting the software take over and do it for you, so you can't apply your own personal flair to it for edge to work.

4e had improved ones that had a lot more fuzzy logic/more seamlessly meshed so it could be used (To a degree) with edge.

Yes? If he was using priority, it would complicate things greatly, but karmagen should make that concept quite accomplishable, although in a pinch, I'd reduce the desired edge, given it's expense. no downtime, no RP between runs
>>
>>49789506
No, no, don't worry at all, they have threads every five days where you can RP being on JackPoint! It's totally awesome!
>>
>>49789322
If you're heavily Cybered you could refer to non-cybered people as meatbags/fleshsacksand sausage links, try and meet the setting halfway on your concept. you could even take the cyber-psychotic quality.
>>
>>49789584
I still think it's wacky that the setting is rife with AIs getting SINs and shit, but there's no good robut rules.
God, even being a rigger is a nightmare.
>>
>>49789322
You're trying to make a character that is outside the bounds of the things that exist in the settings, that's pretty much special snowflake 101. Shadowrun doesn't have classic sci-fi robots, it has cyborgs and drones, and to lesser extent AI's but AI's are supposed to be somewhat mysterious and aren't really for PCs.
>>
>>49789566
>where you can RP being on JackPoint
ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
>>
>>49789630
>there aren't robots, but there are robots
>and there are AIs, sure, but you're not really supposed to be one
honestly, I think this is just a case of the rules not matching up to the setting very well.
>>
>>49789680
>there aren't robots, but there are robots
there's a difference between
>robot people
and
>people with advanced prosthetics and implanted computers and
>robots like today, but more

also, just because something has rules doesn't mean that you should be that
there are rules for blood mages, toxics and bug shamans
but they are NPC ONLY
>>
>>49789765
I'm almost certain the book refers to AIs as a thing players can be.

And the presence of cyberlimbs and shit is specifically why I find the lack of normal robots so weird.
>>
>>49789506
Really? that's fuckin stupid
>>
Did that technomancer book come out yet?
>>
>>49790315
nope
>>
>>49790315
No. I'll let you know when it does.
>>
>>49789792
Grudingly, and and an AI is very conceptually different I think from what you are trying to create. A shadowrun AI is a data entity, they livein the virtual world, they're kind of to the matrix what free spirits are to mages, not discrete mechanical entities. Definitely thematically related but very different. The rules match the setting (doesn't mean they're not shit) your concept doesn't match the setting.

Literally ALL of my friends like Shadowrun so I've been thinking about running a SR campaign.

One question is: is killing security guards just a relatively normal (if dangerous) thing to do in SR, and are the megacorporations that plain toxic that shooting Wally the security guard as part of a mission is perfectly okay? Or are the protagonists just that greedy and desperate?
>>
>>49791185
Killing guards is fairly typical, but discouraged when practical.

As far as the corp is concerned, the reason they often don't bother chasing after runners is because the damage is already done, and trying to catch them after the fact is in all likelihood throwing good money after bad. Whether or not runners kill or just incapacitate guards doesn't make much of a difference here.

However, killing people means that you are making it personal for everyone that knew and cared about the stiff. Convincing a bunch of people that it is worth losing money to put you six feet under is something anyone looking to have a long career should attempt to avoid.
>>
>>49791185
As far as I see it it (like many other things) depends on the frequency
If you play nonlethally you generally are ignored. Sure you destroyed the lab/stole the prototype/extracted the important scientist/whatever. But the cost is already included in their predictions and if you do it well they might consider hiring you to get even
if you kill a few guards the Corps are (understandably) going to be kinda miffed, but they know that this was kinda inevitable, send the families some alimony and hire new guards
if you kill a lot of guards the corps are going to see you as a threat, since you a) hurt morale, b) cost money and c) send a clear signal that they are to be fucked with. Too many deaths and you get on their shit list, meaning that the corps might bundle information about you in the interest of preventing you from hurting them again. This also happens if you destroy too much corp property/hurt or kill their employees or do other shit.

there aren't concrete numbers on when you are in phase 1/2/3, but as long as you keep the general Idea in mind you should be fine

and just before I wanted to post >>49791269 said it pretty well

So there are like three splatbooks dedicated to adding more guns to the game. but not a single new grenade. Have I missed any? Mainly, I was wondering if there is an incendiary grenade anywhere? What about a mono wire based grenade like thing?
>>
What's the typical armor value of a new character? I was like "Yeah, Armor Jacket, 4 Body--I am SOLID," but then I see some people talking about how having merely low 20s in armor is dangerously low.
>>
>>49791586
Depends on both edition and how min-maxed your game is.

If everyone's running around with ARs loaded up with ADPS, then even Body 5, Armor Jacket with Gel Packs, and helmet is going to look a bit bad.

On the other hand, if they're not, then Bod 3, Armor Vest, and Helmet can be pretty good, but you'd probably want the Jacket if you're not going to be infiltrating a lot.
>>
>>49791586
It depends on whether or not you plan on being a frontline guy, and the powerlevel of your game.

Where does it actually SAY what happens to you when your Stun track fills up? Obviously you pass out, but when do you wake back up? When it's not full anymore or when it's not empty? And more to the point, where does it actually say that? Because all the sections that seem relevant in the CRB are too vague to mention when you actually wake up so far.
>>
>>49792284
when it's empty*
>>
>>49792284
For fuck's sake, the section of the CRB that explains Stun damage doesn't even say you pass out when you get a full Stun Track.

When the total number of boxes in a damage track (Physical or Stun) are filled in, and damage still remains to be applied, one of two things happens:

• If the damage is Stun, it carries over into the
Physical damage track. For every two full boxes of excess Stun damage, carry over 1 box to the Physical damage track

End of the Stun section of "Exceeding the Condition Monitor".
>>
>>49792284
page 100
>>
>>49792339
I've seen it. It doesn't say anything about when you STOP being unconscious.

"Every character has a Condition Monitor that tells the player how much Physical and Stun damage they can take before falling unconscious. The formulae for these are found in the Final Calculations table. For more information on using the Condition Monitor, see Damage, p. 169."

Page 169 just tells you that Stun damage isn't as bad as Physical, then goes on with the earlier quote in >>49792331.
>>
>>49791586
Well, a jacket, the most +s you can get for your strength (2-4), and 3-4 BOD will get you anywhere from 15-20 dice for most characters. Some people might get away with less due to their roles, and expectations of combat.

Also consider that average roll is 1 hit/3 dice, so you want to be able to soak somewhere around 10+ damage for a tank character.
>>
>>49792372
+(str+1) in +armor if you don't want to take penalties. If you don't mind or can eat those penalties, then you can go higher.
>>
>>49791586
In my campaign level, the players are running military level operations with multi-session planning and shopping sprees.

They all throw over 18 dice for their main weapons/skills, and are loaded up for war and stealth and everything else they could ever possibly want to do. When they get hit, which is often because their enemies outnumbered them and use automatic fire, they regularly have to resist 16 damage.

Most of the players have pain-editors. The enemies are fanatic, and deadly.

20 armor is okay, but not great for my campaign. Most of the players have 26 armor with 4 body. The heaviest guy has 39 damage resist dice.

It really depends on your campaign.

TFW your mage and her spirit of man start happily singing "Elvis - Promised land" while they get ready to send a packet bus off the side of an elevated highway to plunge into the roof of a 3 story apartment because you misjudged the dose you gave her to chill out after we nearly lost two comrades in the last run.
