Phyrexia has always been the one big bad of Magic lore, as they are either:

A) Robotic machines that convert all organic matter into metal to worship Yawgmoth

Or,

B) Metallic beings that convert all organic matter to metal to try and find/create the perfect being to rule over them and all they converted.

The only reason they have emotions is because mana powers them, and mana is primal, raw emotion. Once they figure out how to make colorless mana to fuel their bodies, they truly will be emotionless killing machines.

That's part of the reason why a Phyrexians vs. Eldrazi set is so terrifying: no matter who wins, the rest of the multiverse is screwed. Hell, the indescribable tentacle monsters might even be the good guys in that fight, if fan theories of the Eldrazi being the multiverse recycling old/dying planes into new ones is true.
