He only got nominated because of the overdsturation of republican candidates in the primaries splitting up the vote. He consistently walked away with like, what, 35% of the vote? To vote in most republican state primaries you need to be registered republican which is roughly 40 -ish percent of the country so if you break down the numbers only like 10 -ish percent of this country's population actually enthusiastically supported trump so I wouldn't believe the hype that white america is rabidly acting out in response to changing cultural climate
