What purpose is there for tapping a Planeswalker?
>>
>>49732021

Virtually none; but it's a good visual reminder for "oh right I can't use that this turn."
>>
>>49732021
Gideon
>>
>>49732021
To show that it's under the effect of the card I imagine.
>>
>>49732058

You could target Gideon with 'target creature' on any turn it was relevant.
>>
>>49732021

>rare slot cards are fucking useless chaff

Kikes.
>>
>>49732056
>Without tap
"I activa-"
"You can't, it's suppressed with Deadlock Trap."
"Since when?"
"Since the last turn."
"You can't prove that! JUDGE! This dirty misogynistic pedophile nazi gamergator is cheating!"
>>
>>49732021
because "Target creature or planeswalker's abilities can't be activated this turn. if it's a creature, tap it." is more wordy and convoluted and there is no harm in tapping planeswalkers.
>>
>>49732021
Wait a second, is that image of Chandra and Nissa locked together in small containment room?
>>
>>49732021
>I guess they just wanted to make both options fit on one ability. I do think just haveing the creature and planeswalker options so you don't tap the planeswalker as two different abilities would have been fine, but this works too.
>>
>>49732146
Yeah. Grandma Pashiri is in there, too, but you can't see her in the card.
>>
Because tapping a planeswalker is always extremely fun.

In case they have the sick Mycosynth Lattice+March of the Machines combo going.
>>
What I meant to ask was, a Planeswalkers ability can only be done on your turn right? So say your opponent taps your planeswalker, it's just going to untap during your untap phase right?
>>
>>49732189
>Nissa, no! Not now, grandma is watching.
>>
>>49732209

Correct.

>>
>>49732216
So there is no reason to choose to tap a Planeswalker?
>>
>>49732248

Not NO reason; there's a scant few effects like >>49732221 that might care.

But 99.9% of the time, tapping a planeswalker does nothing, it's only the "can't activate their abilities" part that you care about.
>>
>>49732209
Correct. However, because activated ability of this artifact can be used at instant speed and ability of Planeswalker only in the main phase, opponent can use this in your Upkeep (after you untapped) to disable your Planeswalker before you have opportunity to use it this turn.
>>
>>49732021
>Special symbol for tokens
Is this new? Words cannot express how triggered I am by this...
>>
>>49732272
OH ok, I didn't realize the ability of Dead Lock trap could be used as an instant, I thought when you had to tap to use an ability it could only be used on your turn as a sorcery.
>>
>>49732248
You can tap it on their turn, you know.
>>
>>49732107
>I didn't read the card
>>
>>49732303
Nope, activated abilities can be used whenever you have priority unless specifically noted otherwise.

Energy (star) is not token, it's a counter.
Basically it's a recycled mechanism from King of Tokyo. Because Richard Garfield likes to shoehorn ideas from his other games into M:tG. Usually this urge stays confined to Commander sets (eg. Parley is literally stolen from Jyhad) but sometimes it leaks into the main set too.
>>
>>49732107
>"Since the last turn."
Nigga Deadlock Trap is only until EoT. You fire it during upkeep.

how is that game?
>>
>>49732632
King of Tokyo? Casual fun. It's quick and dynamic. It's the kind of a game you can show to somebody who never played tabletops besides before and there's decent chance they will like it.

Jyhad is basically what EDH / Commander wish they were. The game was doomed because making TCG where standard game size is 4+ players just doesn't work.
>>
>>49732718
Jyhad isn't a LCG? I feel like what you're describing could be better in that form

Well Jyhad / Vampire: the Eternal Struggle had a decent enough fifteen year run with WotC and White Wolf, during and after the time the first big CCG boom came and went.

Def would be sweet to see an LCG treatment of the game.

>Gideon, Battle-Forged
>Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
>Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
and any others with relevant abilities I'm forgetting?
That ignores the no-activated-abilities effect, of course, but it also ignores any Mycosynth Lattice/March of the Machines or Enchanted Evening/Opalescence type shenanigans that would add yet another reason to tap a planeswalker.
>>
>>49732355

Garfield didn't design energy, MaRo did. And the inspiration for it is "what if you could put charge counters on players, and not just ion artifacts?"
>>
>>49732368
I'm so glad someone else thought of that too. With him on his shoulder, I don't know if its a Servo or a +1/+1 counter
>>
>>49736558
>MaRo doing something intelligent or useful.
Good god, Tumblr, shut your useless trap. If I wanted your opinion, I would trigger it out of you.

And I wouldn't pick your top fuckhole to squeal pointlessly either.
>>
>>49736585
But MaRo is a nice guy and genuinely want the game to be good
>>
>>49736604
So do the worthless stinky gobshits that pack every FLGS screaming for the latest fix that they leave strewn about the place for the adults to clean up.

I assumed you meant "nice guy" in your filthy SJW twisting of the term.
>>
>>49736634
No, I didn't
I meant "nice guy" as in a male person that is friendly
You know, a nice guy
>>
>>49732368
I also watch lrr
>>
>>49732355
Without knowing about his other games, they felt like charge counters but retooled to have a common pool for all cards using them.
>>
>>49736302
Nope, if all rares and mythics we good there would be more playable decks and you could trade your rares that you don't use for rares that you actually want to use.
But in MaRo's wild ride, ONE rare is worth $15 while every other is worth $0.50 or a $5 rare land. So that you need to open 212 boosters or pay $60 to someone who did, to get a playset of the only rare card that matters while every other rare rots in a box under the pretense of "limited".
>>
>>49732146
This card could be called: Staff insertion.

>>49736515
They can't activate the ability to become creatures even if they weren't untapped. Is just a reminder.

>>49736686
I know. I miss old Magic, Remember when Rares were good?
>>
>>49736464
No, he's right.
>>
>>49736686
But wouldn't you rather have good uncommons and a handful of good rares?
>>
>>49736930
All rares should try to be equally good.
Mythics are for stupid funny timmy/johnny shit.
Uncommons should be the most played cards in the game.
>>
>>49732021
>this card is the perspective of a slot machine
>>
>>49736930
NWO works against that.
If Commons cannot be complex or splashy "for the sake of new players and limited", then useful common effects like Lightning Bolt have to be pushed to uncommon, which means powerful uncommon effects like Inquisition of Kozilek no longer represent their rarity and get pushed to Rare. They we realize all walkers have to be mythic because of "flavor" and are the safest bet for printing absolutely necessary 4x standard top tier cards, which means someone will have to open a lot of boosters to suit every wannabe spike's deck with those Gideons, Lilianas and Chandras.

And that's how the game got made thrice as expensive in a couple years, for the sake of "limited".
>>
>>49736849
That is the most useless enchantment I've ever seen (so far).
>>
>>49732355

Doesn't Garfield not really work on the game anymore, or at least not enough to assume he's responsible for any given mechanic? Did they say anywhere that he was specifically involved with kaladesh?
>>
>>49736669

This is exactly what it was, Garfield doesn't have much to do with mtg anymore (last set he designed was original Innistrad)
>>
>>49736987

Rares are also for interesting cards that can't be printed at common or uncommon because they would wreck limited. Also, every single rare wizards prints costs the exact same, one booster's worth of dollars or tix. Wizards doesn't control the secondary market and doesn't directly profit from it, either.
>>
>>49737146

MaRo posts 2 articles every week on the wizards homepage where he discusses the designs he's been involved in. His Kaladesh article talks about how energy began as "charge counters you could share between artifacts".

Kek, old magic really was variable.
>>

I have never encountered anybody that bad IRL. They don't associate with people outside of their social circle and certainly don't play card games.

Probably think it's witchcraft.
>>
>>49736453
>I have never seen anything closer to an SJW than you right now.

Such is the cadence of Moloch.
>>
>>49737072
Lightning Bolt is neither flashy, nor complex. It's solely a power level issue that prevents its reprinting in Standard. And solely a power level issue that if it was reprinted in Standard, it would be an uncommon for Limited.

Your examples are bad, and you should feel bad.
>>
>>49738301
That, and combining it with Harness the Storm is a borderline broken combo.
>>
>>49736464
No, are you?
>>
>>49738041
another anon, but if any /pol/acks plays card games, it's mostly the "smart" ones that are aware how taboo their worldviews are. SocJus Zealots I am not as sure about, since their extreme views are less taboo in the current year, but I have only encountered one person who could be borderline-fanatic at worst, so either the dumber ones don't play mtg, and/or the "smart" ones are not zealous enough to give out their extreme political views unsolicited.
>>
>>49738353

>>
>>49732632
a lot of fun.
>>
>>49737146 The last two blocks Garfield worked on were original Ravnica and original Innistrad.
>>
>>49740740

That explains why they turned out to be actually good blocks.
>>
>>49732021
>>49732076
Doesn't matter, the template is cleaner this way. And you can still use it on other planeswalker to turn off their abilities. Tapping doesn't do anything on them but it doesn't hurt and it takes fewer words.
>>
>>49732021
I haven't played magic in well over 15 years but even I can tell you that tapping a permanent indicates that the effect is used/in use and while tapped the permanents effect can not be used/reused do you even read the rules that are in your premade decks?
>>
>>49743885
Tapping doesn't do anything to the planeswalker card type.
>>
>>49737754
Makes me wonder if anyone ever lost a game because of this card.
>>
>>49743949
Maybe the person who played it. There are two creatures total with plainswalk I think?
>>
>>49743980
4. Graceful Antelope, Righteous Avengers, Zodiac Rooster, and Boggart Arsonists. Aysen Highway is the only effect that grants Plainswalk, and there are a very small handful of "rewrite" effects that can turn other X-walks into Plainswalk.
The only utility Great Wall serves at all is that it's a white enchantment and white sometimes cares about enchantments.
>>
>>49737754

And this, kids, is why you don't make a cycle of 5 identical cards and call it a day.

Not all /pol/acks shitpost on other boards (thankfully). There are some /pol/acks who act like normal people in public or even anonymously on most image boards, but go full on crackerville conspiratard in the appropriate setting (using "appropriate" quite loosely). I don't know how many are closet /pol/acks, but hopefully they don't make up too much of the /pol/ population.

Planeswalkers are made of metal and are therefore artifacts. Tapping them turns them off.
