So what's going on in the rest of the world in the Shadowrun universe?
I know the situation in Seattle and, due to the PC games and a little independent research, Berlin. And I know Japan is still super xenophobic, but what about the rest of the globe?
Hell, what about the rest of North America? What's going on in Las Vegas?

We also know a decent amount about Hong Kong.

Lagos has half a splat book.

Chicago is pretty well expanded on.

So are the Elven Nations of Tir Tairngire and Tir na nOg.

Mexico is blood magic Aztecs. It's called Aztlan now.

Brazil and a bunch of other countries in South America became Amazonia and they have a huge fucking city.

History wise there's the Euro-Wars, both Matrix Crashes, and a couple other big events.

Cool thing is that Africa's a big place. You can have high-tech urban sprawls surrounded by Mad-Max wastelands that are playgrounds for tribal warlords and corporate mercs. There's a nation of ghouls, and all kinds of pre-Awakening stuff to find as well as regular corporate resource grabbing.

>>

The Twilight Horizon talks about Vegas. It's Pueblo Corporate Country and a big Horizon town. Technomancers used to be banned from the Strip, they protested and hacked a lot to show how they totally aren't troublemakers who'll hack your shit, eventually Horizon massacred them. Don't protest so much anymore. Market Panic touches on that.
>>
>>49729598
>What's going on in Las Vegas?
In NAN 1, there's a scenario that has a segment playing in LV. Set in the 2050s, Las Vegas is still entertainment town but it's stuffed with (hotel, I presume) security personnel of all sorts. Like crammed. On top of that, cilivians are also openly packing SERIOUS firepower, people are not driving around in limousines but more military/security vehicles and shit. also, it gets very seedy, once you step away from the big lights. furthermore, they belong to the pueblo corporate council nation and these native americans have some of the blackest ice in north america to keep their matrix safe.

Asamondo only runs because the rest of Africa is a shithole; they can import corpses at a steady rate to feed it's ghoul population, and other Infected who need live subjects for Essence Drain can go hunting.

They've never properly explained how Asamondo pays for all this. The early history is basically Israel, "Fuck you we're taking this land and we'll fight off anyone who wants to take it back muh homeland" but there's no America sponsoring Ghoultopia.

They had some rare earth mines, but those aren't uncommon in Africa, and the placement of Asamando doesn't correspond with any currently known amazingly fruitful deposits. Not to mention that 50 years of work should be enough to deplete many mines if they're worked aggressively, for instance if the state needs massive cashflow to buy 'meat' and armaments to fight a never-ending border war. And they got some Orichalcum in the Year of the Comet, but the timeframe for that was all fucked up when you think about what's actually involved in setting up a mine.

I don't know if scandinavia has any official fluff.
i got my hands on a semi-unofficial fluff piece that details some of the internal politics of Sweden and specifically Stockholm.

In short: politics is dominated by the Social Democrats who are controlled by an extremely sophisticated AI named Per-Albin, a dragon named Nidhögg appeared in 2022 and is currently attempting to infiltrate the social democrats and find out what's going on at the top.
Sami independence movements managed to acquire a large degree of autonomy in controlling the northernmost areas in 2027 using Sami shamanistic magic.
In 2031 Russia attacks scandinavia, their entire fleet is destroyed by the combined Swedish-Danish navy with a lot of help from Nidhögg.

Dwarfen groups are in control over practically all the mining and metallurgy industry in the country, elves have a lot of success in the media.

Gotland has a small elvish independence movement growing, Skåne/Scania also has an independence movement though far larger and more violent than the gutnish one, the motivations there are mainly anti-metahuman.

Magic is common enough that most inhabitants of Stockholm have witnessed a few magical phenomenons, Stockholm also has a problem with a lot of crimes perpetrated by orcs and trolls etc.

JUST TO NAME A FEW THINGS, the pdf is in swedish so I'm not sure how useful it'd be for you
>>
>>49742612
>>49739055
Keep in mind the fluff piece is written primarily for SR4, I'm not well acquainted with SR5 so not sure how well it would mesh in that system.
it's pretty devoid of any mechanical rules so you wouldn't need to convert any character sheets or anything, it's essentially just a setting.

I'm going to run a game in Metropole, the world largest's urban sprawl, which has surprisingly zero lore besides a few paragraphs when talking about something else.

In theory when a dragon took over Brazil and later most of South America, it kicked everyone out it to let the forest grow back to their former glory. And all this people end up migration to Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo, making a large city that connect both.

Since there's almost no Lore on that, but I'm brazilian, I'm writing my own (shitty) splatbook. And doing my own maps.

Here's an example.

>Broken nuclear power plant good to make a irradiate city zone with muties and shit.

The Japanese left California. There was a huge earthquake in the home islands in 2061 and it became politically untenable to keep an Imperial presence there. General Saito (a commander of the Imperial Marines) refused to come home, and stuck around with a couple of battalions and the backing of some of the Japanacorps, declaring it the California Protectorate. Between 2064 and 2069, he was taken out of power and the California Free State existed once more, though they lost Los Angeles and the Central Valley to the PCC. (that map is 2075)

>>49743794
Shasta was fucked up in the Dragon Civil War, most of the Shamans were killed and Hestaby is in semi-exile; still powerful, but not making obvious waves (possibly that was part of the peace deal, which is why her lair is mostly undamaged and nobody is flogging her hoard on eBay).

Explicitly aging. Orcs do tend to die violently, but genetically they hit a wall in their mid-30's. They get physically and mentally mature in their early teens, live about 2 decades as prime physical specimens, then deteriorate rapidly. A 45-year-old orc is like a 90-year-old human.

Trolls live to be about 50. Similar maturity in what is human adolescence, similar deterioration.

It's one of the reasons why orcs and trolls have a hard time integrating into human society. They start wanting to fuck in grade school, and by high school they're grown men and women who want to get on with their short lives, not waste a quarter of their prime years learning calculus.

>>49744409
>>49744428
Dwarves should live more than a hundred years, and elves 'several hundred'. Nobody's sure, because the Sixth World hasn't been around long enough. Immortal Elves are a special category of elves who lived from the 4th World (Earthdawn), stayed hidden in the 5th, and are now coming back into the light in the 6th. How they stayed alive that long is a matter for conjecture, but there's accusations of special secret magic and dragon fucking

The only thing I actually remember from it was that Maersk basically owns everything that used to be Denmark, minus the parts of Jutland that the Black Tide left uninhabitable. The rest was mostly about how the Union government was fighting a losing battle to keep corporate influence from subverting their social systems, and the resurgence of Asatru and neo-paganism.

I'm sure there should be plenty of things written about it. But from just glancing a wiki article it seems like your standard sprawl with no weird features standing out.

Supposedly, the UCAS Military is happy to sign up orcs at 14 years of age for 'ROTC' units that are nothing of the sort and behave exactly like ordinary military units comprised of adults. Its an excellent way to get money and job training as a young adult orc who wont officially be an adult for another 4 years.

NYC is locked down hard. External security is top notch, and there are internal checkpoints everywhere. There is not even a single lingering vestige of the manipulable government, every single square inch is owned by an extraterritorial corporation. Its one of the most difficult but lucrative places to run the world.

Seattle is the 'default' city.

New York City is Big Brotherland. There was a big earthquake that levelled most of Manhattan Island, and the ruins got bought out by the Manhattan Development Consortium, a union of megacorps that is itself a megacorp with extraterritorial status.

Nowadays Manhattan is probably the most tightly regulated place on the planet. The MDC controls every inch of it, with cameras and security equipment errywhere tracking every movement of every person, animal, and drone there. Any runs that happen there are the blackest of trenchcoats, and even arming yourself with a taser is a big deal.

The boroughs are much looser- so long as the serfs still come into work, the MDC doesn't care what happens in the wilds of Staten Island. That area is much more like modern New York/classic cyberpunk city, with ethnic enclaves, street gangs, and corps there to squeeze out money and not to rule like gods.

There isn't much about nordic countries in SR5 and even then not that much.

Because there isn't much at all about Finland I have had to homebrew a bit how Finland could work in my headcanon.

Finland is ruled by a council made from CEOs of several major Finnish companies, Union represantives and Government officials. This council then directs the government proper and how Finland should be ran. This represents our tradition about "holy trinity" of employers, employees and government on business talks. A tradition that started after the ww2.

More or less S-K and Neonet/Erika have presence in Finland. Otherwise most of Finnish economy is run by Finnish companies. The Governmental council tries to restrict the power of foreign companies.

Running in Helsinki-Metroplex isn't that hard, but requires some preparation. In true Finnish way more or less everything is behind a SIN licence of some sort. Forging those things is hard, but possible if you want to be "lawful".

Surveillance is everywhere, but if you don't attack government assets or mess things up they are going to keep thwir distance. If you do mess things up be prepared to fight against FDF Military Police who make up most of the Police force. This is due to constant threat from Russia after their previous war.

All this has lead the Shadowrunners to find their ways to do business. A very clean and utilitarian way of running. So if you are a foreigner coming to run in here, you need to contact your local fixer who then arrangers required paperwork and equipment to be delivered to you/your crew.
>>
>>49752075

Running outside Helsinki-Metroplex there is few possibilities. The quick money of smuggling at Russian border or running slow tedious runs for different Finnish corporations into struggle of council power.

Personally I don't like the choice of Finland joining Scandinavian Union because fear of Russians so in my headcanon Russians did attack in Euro Wars, but it just lead into bloody stalemate.

I did do some writing last spring? about possible Finnish corps. Here it is again.

>Stora Enzo Kymmene is biggest forest industry corporation in northern europe. They survived the major paper industry crash by eating other majot competitors and switching to bioengineering and building industry. Specialized in biofuels and building energy efficient wood structures Stora Enso Kymmene has managed to weather the storm.

>Sako-Valmet is conglomerate made from privatized former state companies and formerly Beretta owned Sako. Making a wide array of products from industrial equipment to weapons they are biggest Finnish corporation.

>Patria-Kongsberg. Two companies merged in 2016 (Kongsberg actually bought part of Patria few weeks ago) with Nammo to become biggest Fenno-scandinavian weapons, maritime, air- and spacetech company.

>Wärtsilä-Cargotec controls most of Finnish shipyards and is specialized is whole shebang that is ports and shipbuilding. Known for their leisure cruiseships and world-class propulsion and power systems.

>Kone. They sell lifts and lift accessories. Merge of Kone (one of the world leading elevator and lift makers) and Konecranes (formerly part of Kone) made Kone biggest elevator and lifting equipment maker in world after buying Cargotecs lifting business along with Terex.

I think the company has to be a multinational before it's even considered for an A rating. If I understand it right, ratings are based on national presence (how many countries the corp is in), total value of assets (stock value, IPs, etc.), and diversification. I mean, every corp has its schtick, Ares does weapons, Horizon does social media, Renraku does computers, etc., but all of them do multiple things, and generally do more than one thing really well.

Orks have fraternal twins by default, which then split into identicals at the normal rate per zygote. An ork having a single birth is very rare. That's why people tend to accuse orks of having 'litters' of children.
>>
>>49762489
>But how big does a company need to be to be an A or AA?
An AA is a sovereign conglomerate that makes its own laws, issues its own SINs to its own citizens, and has its own armed forces and collects taxes from its citizen-employees. It's only separated from a AAA by not being quite big enough to earn a seat on the Council.

An A isn't sovereign. It's still a multinational conglomerate that has a terrifying, unimaginable amount of power, but it doesn't make its own laws (except by bribing politicians) and can't issue its own SINs. A-ranked corps - of which there are countlessly many - are all large and powerful enough to be the equivalent of the very largest and most powerful of modern-day corporations.

And then there are things like B, C, and D corporations. Those are the sort of companies which - for whatever reason - simply haven't been bought out by one of the A+ ranked corps yet and brought into their corporate umbrella. They go as low as mom and pop grocery stores and employee-owned automechanic shops.
>>
>>49768000
So Wal*Mart for example, in it's current incarnation, would only be an A rank then.
>>
>>49768127
Exactly. It's fuckhuge, and it owns subsidiaries around the world - like ASDA. But it's not sovereign, just enormous and corrupt.

Hell, there's arguments to be made that it's a B, rather than an A, because its holdings aren't quite diverse enough of a conglomerate, but you're definitely on the right track.

Most of the A+ corporations own hundreds of smaller companies/brands which don't carry the greater company's official name. You even often see different subsidiaries competing with each other for the same market share.
>>
>>49768161
So Nestle would be A then. I mean, it's international and evil, with it's thumb in many pies.
>>
>>49768217
Nestle is a much better example, yes. Except in this example, you'd be looking through Nestle's subsidiaries and suddenly go, "Wait, since when does Nestle own an automobile company and a nuclear power plant?" A-ranked corps have their fingers in an astounding number of pies.
