I like that gun and did something similar with my laspistols, since GW took away lasguns from sergeants and I wanted them to be more tacticool than pistol and sword officers. So I used Cadian laspistols on lasgun arms with a vertical grip under the muzzle for a short barreled, folding stock carbine thing.

There's nothing to stop you. The problem with the Salamander geneseed is that it doesn't let the darkening of the skin to roll back. When a regular marine is exposed to radiation, the skin darkens in response. Then it goes back. On Salamanders it stays dark, so in time they turn pitch black. You could have a pale ass white honkey Salamander if he was converted from Caucasian stock and never got exposed to levels of radiation that would have caused his skin to darken.
