Basically the idea is to get a bunch of tokens on the field, drop Cryptolith Rite and Jeskai Ascendancy (each helps you look for the other, which is nice), then chain Dig Through Times, Anticipates, and Treasure Cruises until you have an army of absolutely massive tokens and can make as many other tokens as you need if you can't close out the game this turn due to them having too many blockers.

I've done some testing and it's doing pretty well; it's surprising consistent. I've only run out of gas once out of maybe 20 games. Any thoughts?

All of these see significant play in Eternal/Modern, all of these plus everything in the Enchantress and Heroic decks at the time would see play in Frontier.

What about dark jeskai? Atarka red? Any other standard deck that got second or third when abzan was first? There are plenty of other decks that can succeed, and maybe can deal with siege rhino. And if not? Then freaking BAN the rhino, and let cards that are RESTRICTED in vintage to get other cards that are still powerful.

This format also has some pretty nice goblins with goblin rabble master, goblin piledriver and hordeling burst, but maybe it still needs a little more goblins, but hey, at least I'm only complaining about the people who are complaining about siege rhino.

So i heard this format originated in japan due to card shortage of older printings. It seems interesting and i'm always interested in new formats no matter how much we may not need them because the deck builder in me always gets a massive boner. (i built several tiny leader decks, online of course, i never bought any.)

do you guys think this format would take off in the US? all of these relatively recent cards should be much cheaper to buy into than modern so having a non-rotating deck that doesn't cost an arm and a leg would be lovely.

Right, allow me to get more into detail here.

Yes, there are specific removal that get the job done, but without white and good draw he's screwed anyways. In addition to the ones you mentioned there's also reasonably efficient bounce and enchantment removal that solve the problem. Sure he gets to keep the Citadel, but whatever.

The other half of my point is that "green hexproof givers" are hardly worth playing in deck that expects to play blue on T2 and having artifact synergies. Sure there are green pump spells that give hexproof, but they're hardly worth playing over Negates or hard counters. I admit, Padeem would be great candidate for the deck.

What I'm saying is that Ensoul Artifact Darksteel Citadel is a strong play that takes over unless dealt with with rather specific cards. "Green hexproof givers" are only a major case of timmy-tastic win-more philosophy when counter magic is already in your colors.

Mardu tokens in standard was the first deck I ever built. Ran brutal hordechief and a playset of tremors and foul tongue shriek, plus a bunch of tokens. Hirdeling outburst, secure the wastes, dragon fodder. I beat 4 color rally with it and went 3-0 at an Fnm. The deck is so much fun. If you get double tremors on the board you can win without attacking.

So I played this format and well....it's kinda dumb. However I can see the inherent appeal to it for some people and there's some amusing cards to play with but overall the format is boring.

Other formats are balanced from sheer powerlevel distributed among the previous sets.
But in Wizards NWO the powerlevel has been reigned in, but only against certain deck archetypes and ideas.
If you're in green, you're going to have relatively powerful creatures but red and blue have been neutered of their ability to burn and counter spells respectively.

The fact that 4 color goodstuff was a deck at all and it was actually winning tournaments indicates that a post-modern format is only going to be more of that. There is literally nothing stopping the post-modern format from being even more 4 color good stuff because as anons said earlier in the thread there is no viable punishment for greedy manabases in post-NWO magic.

I ran the same deck in shadows standard, with thopter engineers, zulaport cutthroat, hangarback walker, pia and kiran, dance with devils (a real all star, actually) and ghirapur gearcrafter. Didn't run Gideon because I'm poor AB and mom and dad put more tokens down and synergiezed with the artifacts I had. Got second in a tournament because I didn't mulligan at the last round.

Your post would imply that you have no clue how rotation works.

Step 1: 5 sets, minimum. 3 large, 2 small. For example: Right now.
BFZ block, SOI block, and Kaladesh.
This lasts 3 months or so. Then Set #6 is released (The Aether Is Revolting). Another 3 months goes by. Then Rotation happens. The first 2 sets rotate out! 1 new set rotates in!
That took 6 months and there was never less than 5 sets in Standard.
Rinse and repeat every 6 months (not every 3 months, don't be an idiot).

There are lots of long-standing Highlander formats that get no Wizards help at all (e.g. German or Canlander).
Tiny Leaders flared up and died out.
They crippled, then killed off Extended.
It's going to take a serious uptick in interest - including dedicated GP side events - for Wizards to look seriously at the format.

I told you I wouldn't consider playing it at GP or any bigger tournament (as most of the people do, hence not a lot of results), but it's a perfect fnm-tier deck (unless your lgs is 100% made of grinders). Especially if you're a beginner and you aren't sure if you want to drop 500$ to get in. It's relatively competitive as it can win against most of the deck (the only really horrible matchups are death shadow zoo and tron).

Hell, just like you said - it's a 100 bucks deck. Buy it yourself and try it. It won't blow your mind but it's definitely playable. Bringing it to any kitchentable would ruin the day for the other players.

Monogreen stompy sits in this weird space between memes and real decks next to slivers and 8whack.
