I don't get it. They whine that they can't use Kamigawa again because it's too japanese, but then have a character literally speak it in the latest story.

I'd rather see what Tamiyo, Narset and Ajani get up to than the gatewatch though. It's a classic 'Hint at a story that sounds far more interesting than the one you're giving us'

I was also thinking for half of that story that Ajani x Tamiyo was a thing, before her husband showed up. Makes it seem a bit of an unreasonable move for Tamiyo to have been on Innistrad when she has a family back at home.

The Gatewatch don't have anything to lose outside of Ravnica maybe having a bit of trouble if Jace died. Maybe that's part of the reason I don't see them as compelling.

Thou what I honestly think would be cool is a complete flipped-upside down revision. Kamigawa set/story is practically one of the first events in MtG lore. So revising it NOW almost 1000 years from the last time we looked, the place could have completely changed.
Could be steampunk moonfolk for all we know.

You're aware we're talking about Wizards of the Coast right? While the D&D team has nothing to do with the magic team in all likelihood, I've never seen anything in their settings that would make me believe that they really do technological development over time. Design's policy seems to be that every time something changes, it should be a new plane.

Kamigawa will only appear in flashbacks, WotC being jews wouldn't take any risks.

I remember coming up with ideas for various 4-color legendary creatures, where each one is defined as having a core desire based upon the inner color pair, and wants to use methods based upon the outer color pair. So non-white would have an inner desire along the Rakdos, but seeks it with Simic means.

There are a lot of elements in Kamigawa that they are afraid to use today. Mainly, it's the fact that it referenced shinto heavily. Just see what happened with Kaladesh and they played it safe with the loxodon.
Then, it's kind of impenetrable for anyone who isn't a japanophile. That's what they implemented with all the "common movie tropes" and fill in the blanks design of Theros.

Then there's conservation of IP. They can't just let it to waste and by having Tamiyo show up and do shit every now and then they keep kamigawafags sated.

Elesh Norn has effectively obliterated the other Praetors, with the only survivor being Gitaxias who forfeited most of his power to avoid getting axed like the rest.
