I want to buy the TToG version of this model and paint her in silver and gold armor with a dark blue dress and dark green cape, but painted to a good standard. I'll name it Lady Lysandra and play games with it and see if anyone gets it.
>>49677283
Not the one I was thinking of, but that's still fucking hilarious.
>>49677225
I looked at these from right to left wondering what was wrong with them.
You made me wake people up god damn it hahaha
Found these gems last night.

Fresh from the /wip/ thread
>mfw when half of these are better than my stuff
I guess at least I'm not delusional
>>49678067
I mean
These don't look unsalvageable, the paint's not so thick you can't draw out the details
But then you see the two chainswords stuck together and it's like what have I gotten into
>>49678127
>>49678067
I have ordered a pack of Armageddon Steel Legion two days ago and they are gonna be my first minis in a long time.
how do I prevent colour from clogging like this, what are the best way to thin paints?
Every time I come to these threads in hoping to see an image I saw years ago. Some dude proudly showing off his Plague Marines. They looked like he dipped them straight in moulding caulk mixed with melted styrofoam.
Aren't Plague Marines really expensive?
>>49678301
Protip: use water.
>>49678301
Vallejo makes a thinner medium thats worked good for me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3p_VuPIS2c
>>49678631
Terrible tip anon.
Acrylic thinner is vastly superios. A £5 ottle will last you for a whole army.
It improves flow more than water and will ensure there is a better pigmentation.
TFW I've never painted models in my life
TFW I'm going to get into this game
TFW I'm sure I'm going to fuck up.
>>49678928
>Terrible tip
No, it's not.
>Acrylic thinner is vastly superios
No, it's not. It slightly better at most.
Stop enforcing on others your own way to burn money.
>>49679016
>burn money
>£5
Sure anon, don't improve the quality of an army that cost upwards of £500 forever...
>>49679016
>>49679329
Come on guys, different strokes for different folks
get it? hahahahahihatemyself
Pour a bottle of wash over any of the Models and nobody will notice their quality during a game.
>>49677185
I dunno this seems pretty ok to me
>>49679497
Seconded. Washing is the easiest way to make a model look good, or at least acceptable.
>>49677130
>>49679568
>>49679574
>>49679586
>>49679497
This is wrong. Washes aren't skill in a little bottle. They are a tool that needs to be properly applied, otherwise it will just make everything look like shit. Every time i look at a fucking pool of shade on a model i could puke. It's disgusting that out community has degraded down to a level where pic related is even acceptable.
>>49679597
Maybe I'm a bad person, but those don't look bad...They could use some more work on some of the finer details, but honestly they are more than tabletop ready.
>>49679662
Same. They won't win any awards, but I'd be more than happy to play against them.
>>49679597
Some guy posted those in WIP the other day and some people called him out for it. As far as i recall they are still work in progress, so i really don't understeand why you people get so emotional about that shit. There are obviously worse models out there.
>>49677443
i realy dig the stubble
>>49679609
>>49679662
That's not the point. Anon was lazy when he painted then and just slobbered some washes over them and called it a day. That's pathetic and shameful and just wrong. It's a perfect example for case that i'm presenting, that washes do not solve problems. And sometimes, like in that mess on the picture, they only make things worse.
>>49679597
>Washes aren't skill in a little bottle.
True. But basecolors + wash is an easy way to get at least tabletop standard quality which might not look great, but good enough for most people.
A bad painted mini with wash will always look better than a bad painted mini without.
Most Ork models are cool but Grotsnik is awful.
>>49679597
>>49679718
Whats wrong with them? Look like dirty/muddy nurgle chaos minis.. perfectly fine to play with them.. even the bases are done.
>>49679718
>That's pathetic and shameful and just wrong.
Why exactly is it shameful? If he was going for that look a wash is an easy method to achieve it.
>and called it a day.
These are his minis, and if he wants them to look like this then its fine. They won't win awards i guess, but they are way better than 80% of the stuff you encounter in your regular GW store.
>>49677283
>>49677347
All the compliments the guy who painted it was getting on his blog for it made it even funnier.
Mini painting is like a cult sometimes.
/r/Warhammer on reddit is pretty bad for it. As long as what you posted isn't obvious bait, you will get a shit ton of compliments, but not one bit of useful advice.
>>49679917
its everywhere like this. Only 4chan is different. Elsewhere you either get no attention at all or just "Nice Mini", "Great paintjob" etc..
Normalfags are just to afraid to offend someone.
>>49679597
>>49679952
Some of you fags don't know the difference between 'noob' painters who will improve over time, and shit-tier painters who will spend a life time fucking up perfectly good models...

>>49680020
>>49679999
Did that guy paint that with his fingertips?
>>49679999
I let new painters doing badly slide, but when it is expensive forgeworld stuff like >>49679952, it is always funny and/or infuriating.
Like, imagine back when the Smaug model was on a limited release the first time it went on the store. Just think of the rage it would cause if someone started posting their absolutely horrid paint job of the thing on /wip/ or something.
>>49679999
Believe me Anon, when I say that the dude who painted this Guilliman, simply stays shit despite buying hunderds of quids worth of FW models. He has a blog where his monstrosities are shown.
>>49680042
Pic related. :)
>>49680061
But that's simply a 'Meh' tier paint job compared to this...
>>49680075
Or this...
170 quid..
>>49679952
If this were a normal model, then except for the face, this would be acceptable. Not good, but acceptable.
But God, why do you have to do this to a primarch?
>>49680087
Even Khorne himself would cringe at this...
>>49680088
At least this one painted his hands the right colour.
I seen one "commission" painter who painted his hands all fleshy, and it wasn't much better than this.
Now I think of it, I think there are some of this guys other works in this thread. I think that Gullieman might be one of his.
Compared to >>49680061 and >>49680086, >>49680106 isn't that bad looking.
>>49680113
It's still fucking bad. If someone lacks the skills to paint such a model, then don't and practice some more.

>>49680061
I've never painted.
Is this bad? what's bad about it?
>>49680268
Both, with a hint of madness.
Also, the pics he takes of his models. He doesn't even doe a quality check before uploading them to his blog. It's horrible.
>>49680306
It's not awful but very flat. The painted needs to add some depth by highlighting and shading. They should have also watered down their paints or applied thinner coats to stop the cake texture on the vehicle.
>>49680306
It's fucking bad. It's just a blue tank with metallic paints slapped on barrels and tracks and UNPAINTED brass etch.
It's not as bad as OP's pic, but it's a very expensive model (105 pound sterling) painted with an utter disregard of attention to detail.
Were he a newbie painter, we would forgive him. But he has an entire blog full of expensive models, and he even talks painting techniques beneath his unclear and unfocused pics.
>>49680031
>those fucking arts and crafts gems
>the fucking landing legs replaced with shitty springs
>>49680324
Even a light leadbelcher drybrush along the sharp edges of the model would give it so much depth and weathering. And even that is a newbie technique compared to weathering with pigments and edge highlights.
This was submitted as a character portrait for a cyberpunk game I was once in.
The character had no traits other than "is a thinly-veiled guardsman," and the player was convinced that the diminutive form of the name Ignace was "Ing."

> 150$ paintjob
> Extremely huge airbrush strokes that smudge details
> ONLY 4 COLORS
> Completely unpainted cockpit
> Huge swathes of details are untouched, such as soulstone gems, maintenance panels, and even the fucking base.
> Base is completely half-assed to the absolute of extremes.
For reference, if I'm doing a 150$ paintjob, I would be doing the following:
> Minimum of 15 colors used.
> Full Basing, with rubble made from my sprueboard collection.
> Pre-painting/post assembly detailing. Strafe holes, scratches and gouges, elvish rune engravings.
> Cockpit fully painted
> All the fucking gems painted
> Zenith Highlights
> Weathering Powders
> Handpainted, using on-model-wetblending to create heat flares on engines and weapons.
The picture shown was what you would expect from a 30$ paint-job done in half an hour. Not a 150$ centerpiece model.

>>49682067
Holy shit, I'm the guy who made that abomination. That was the first thing I ever tried converting, and half if it was things I pulled from my little brother's toy box. The legs were from a Yugioh figurine, the gatling gun was part GI Joe and the ammo feed was from a bionicle kit, I think. The tank piece was Megablocks, the smoke stack on the back and blue blob on the other side was from used Testors paint pots (Which I thankfully stopped using.) The hull itself was from a Disney Pirate ship. And that was BEFORE I even got the chance to paint it.
I remember being kinda butthurt at the time, and demolishing it after posting it, but looking back, It does look terrible. Still, pretty funny to look back at what was around my first month or so of being in the hobby. I had completely forgotten about it.

>tfw my 6 year old nephew kept nicking my models off my desk because "he wanted to have one"

>>49683770
I wish I still had mine. I used house latex paints and muddled it up bad. Then I heard you can strip it to repaint, so I soaked it in paint thinner for a day and scrubbed it vigorously with a toothbrush.
That poor miniature.
>>49682902
This isn't bad but I got flashbacks to those deviantart portraits where everything is a gradient.
>>49683821
I took a picture of those marines because I ended up stripping them using Super Clean (so I could subject them to test paint schemes) which worked really well without eating the plastic at all. I found I had to let it soak for 2-3 days and then a stiff toothbrush did a good job getting the paint off.
Here's what I paint like now. To the people getting down about having shaky hands, I have a real bad RSI in my right hand (dominant and painting hand) but if you just brace your arm against the table and take it slow it'll be okay.

Basically you need to master mixing water and paint and if need be experiment on some throw away models or spare bits.
Even write down your ratio's if need be
I use an eye dropper for adding water
I forgot the name, but supposedly there is a chemical you can add that help the mix just a drop helps.
Also don't load your entire brush unless dry brushing...consider dry brushing.
Dry brushing is where you put paint on the brush but rub most of it off on a paper tower and then dust color on your model as raised surfaces will pick up the color and add detail so long as you don't press hard.
Example of dry brushing.
Always use black spray primer
Soray primer lightly and evenly don't rush, just get it covered lightly.
On ork buggy, guns and choppas, paint them them thinly with tin bitz and then dry brush with boltgun metal.
The end result will be realistcally rusted and worn acratched up metal vehicles and weapons.

So in your book it would have been better if anon spent hours carefully applying washes to achieve the same result?
Well done dips can give a really nice give a finish for certain armies and color schemes. It helps if it's a faction that doesn't have to be pristine looking. I've seen dipped nids, orks, and skeletons turn out great (It also helps if your guys are beige).
The other great thing about dipping for horde armies, assuming we're talking about using polyurethane wood stain, is that the finish is so durable. The figures can really be used as proper "gaming pieces", assuming the models themselves are durable enough. You can scoop them up and dump them out without fear of the paint rubbing through, instead of carefully unpacking and repacking your 400 goblins every game.
Oh, and I almost forgot, fuck yourself.

Its funny, some of these models would have been in WD 15-20 years ago.

Commisions are all about saving time m8.
Weathering is also not necessary, I'd even argue it could make this model look worse
I agree that you can see the typical airbrush techniques on red armour, some metal parts and it has this awful flames/fire effect that is used in every airbrushed model
But you can also see the horns, majority of golden/brass parts and the shield has been made with brush and are pretty detailed.
Is it worth 500$? Well, not for me since painting things is pretty much majority of the fun in this hobby. But I still think this is pretty well made paintjob
>>49683991

Bullshit, no one puts ponies on that many rhinos because they just want attention. There's something mental with him.

First of, remember, this is their middle standard. And I'm not saying its the best they got, far from. But its damn better than most can achieve.
>Airbrush was a mistake
Airbrush was here long before it entered the scene of miniature Wargaming. It had been in the "regular miniature painting scene" for decades newfag. Only reason it got its bad rep was because of newfags who thought it a "all in one tool", painting armies only using that tool. Now for anyone having seen a Awakened realms painting tutorial, you can see they use everything from the basics, drybrush, edge highlights, playing with washes and so on.
Now its obvious you and >>49681846 are just buthurt wargamer-hipsters that feels the need to express your edgy standards. And how you only play with retro models from the rogue trader era and so on. But drop the act and accept that there is airbrush, and airbrush, just like there is painting, and painting.

Bronies are the worst for overlapping their fandom. The show is like rule 34 if you can think of it a brony has forced their fandom into it whether its a tv show, to a video game, a series of novels to warhammer.

Are those translucent blue gauss cores, or is that just a trick of the light? Because if they are, how the hell do you make those?
>>49687785
Those do indeed look translucent. Some webstores that sell 40k also sell transparent plastic tubing in different colors to use for Necrons.
And yes, that means the painter actually went through the effort of ordering and cutting out individual tubing for the gauss cores, only to use them for bright yellow Necrons that look like walking McDonald's signs.
