Did a short game that was kind of a 50's sci-fi styled game of the players landing on Mars and getting attacked by weird space aliens.

It was kinda silly and we were all high at the time. *shrug*

Ray gun Gothic. Heavy suspension of disbelief. It was a very "John Carter of Mars" kind of high space fantasy. Magitec, psionic powers, big monsters and damsels in distress.

Aesthetically yeah, it's very Raygun Gothic, like Atompunk is. But the tone and themes of any cyberpunk derivative are generally the more important parts. You can tell a steampunk story without cogs and airships. You can't tell it without an industrial underclass.

This. It's basically Flash Gordon, the game.

Also check out Mutant Crawl Classics which should be coming in the next 6 months or so. It's gonzo pulp scifi but plenty of rayguns.

Pulp is just a form of sensationalist writing and can cover any genre.

Most Raygun Gothic is pulp, but not all pulp is Rayguns.

For some well known non-pulp Raygun fictions see Metropolis, Star Trek (especially the original series) and The Jetsons.
