/tg/, Thornwatch is a mere 8 hours from closing and there's still time to unlock more cool shit.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/loneshark/thornwatch

>What is Thornwatch?
It's a tabletop adventure game set in a mystic forest where players take on the roles of guardians long dead, but returned to life for tasks no one else can accomplish.

>How does it play?
One player is the Judge, who sets the story and challenges for the Thornwatch; each other player is a member of the Watch.
The Judge controls all other characters, friendly and hostile, and the monsters the inhabit the Eyrewood. He has cards for each character and creature under his command. Members of the Thornwatch each have a deck of cards, symbolizing his skills. Wounds they receive also go to their deck and if a character has too many wound cards, he's dead.

While the Thornwatch decks cover exclusively combat, each scene and story also has different challenges that they have to overcome. The game also use Trait cards and description prompts to incourage roleplay, rewarding the players who get in character but without creating much of a rift between those who do and those who are still too shy/inexperienced for that.

The campaign is about 200 backers from having every goal unlocked. Take a look at the kickstarter videos and the comics and maybe it'll convince you to be one of the two hundred left.

Terrible products which have already made back the money spent on them by the time they're produced and before they can get any negative reviews, as well as blatant lies about the final content of the product and the timeline it'll be produced in. Same as any preorder.

Of course there's no time to print, gather your friends, play, form and opinion, and still back; but at least to give you an idea of what the finished game's gonna be liike.
>>
Oh goodie a shill thread.
>>
>>49653721
I just played this last night, it's a hell of a fun time. It's a game that encourages narrative roleplaying during the premise dungeon crawls.

This game is good for getting with your group to play a game but you don't feel like setting up a whole RP session. It's also good practice for describing combat beyond "I roll to hit"
>>
>and there's still time to unlock more cool shit.

Quite a clever trick that, makes your customers do your marketing for you.

Ey, thanks OP! Loved those old comics and I haven't heard shit about this being turned into a /tg/, so getting a heads up with 6 hours to go on the KS was noice.
I can concur it's a bit on the expensive side but idgaf, so are most boardgames these days. And getting the expansion for a fiver was a decent consolation. The fucking shipping going for 33% of the total cost was rough though, but such is life in non-murrica Zone.

There's one comic left unposted, no? The one in winter with the owl monster?

Did any of you guys writefag something up for one of the submission things? I think at this point I'm more interested in the album than in the game; I wanted it back when it was 100% a role playing game, but they'be gone in a different direction since then.

The strip comic... exists. It's not BAD, but pretty shrugworthy these days? It seems they've cut down on the commission-making of comics and sideprojects too? Which is a shame because the Krahulic guy has actually gotten a pretty badass artstyle...

>Kickstarter, at all, despite PA being millionaires

No thanks, you can buy a self serve ad or fuck off back to >>>r/shekels
>>
>>49654531
To put things in perspective, PAX is its own entity at this point and most attendees don't even know who Mike and Jerry are. Which, unfortunately, is sort of to be expected, since the whole "dickwolves" thing really damaged their reputation.

However, there's too much money behind the Penny Arcade brand to just let it die, so they pretty much just whore themselves out for publicity at this point while the convention itself is run by the PC police and e-celebs.
>>
>>49654300
>It's just talking about stuff you like.

OP might be, but that entire kickstarter stretch goals idea? It gives the people who pitched in a vested interest in getting others to do so as well. Many probably don't do anything much about that, but some will be affected, consciously or not.

The whole thing was made all the more obvious in Square's Mankind Divided preorder scheme, but some of that is found even in your normal kickstarter, especially for those where a kickstarter wasn't in any way necessary, ie it's all more of a pre-order.

A clever trick.
>>
>>49656098
>most attendees don't even know who Mike and Jerry are. Which, unfortunately, is sort of to be expected, since the whole "dickwolves" thing really damaged their reputation.

If people dont know who they are how would having your reputation being tarnished matter?

Well, I guess you could look at it that way. If you must. But then you can't make it part of the narrative how the SJWs are coming to destroy everythign you love, their insidious tentacles slowly but surely strangling the life out of whatever it is you see as your last bastion when nothing else gives your life any meaning.
>>
>>49653015
The bigger groups tend to be fairly easy to spot and heckle or ignore. If a triple-A game studio comes to kickstarter, you mock it. (Think: Deus Ex preorders) If a company who has used Kickstarter before and delivered on their promised product to the level expected comes to kickstarter again, you consider (Reaper Miniatures). If a person offers something you have no interest in, or something that interests you but the price is too high, you simply ignore it.

The pages following the first one, in the pilot episode, are a little bit iffy, but those were outsourced to an acquintance of the PA team, since they were blindsided by the response on a one-page concept they'd just cobbled up. I'm not gonna be too autistic about that.
>>
>>49657990
Yes, after the first page it drops in quality. The later ones Krahulik did personally are great, though.

I had the chance to play this at PAX East two years ago, and it was completely different. I haven't had a chance to play since then, but the print&play version I have is interesting.

Kickstarter is basically pre-ordering something before you know exactly how good it is. Currently, i have only backed 4 Kickstarters, and I am happy with what I got from all of them. One of them was kind of an 'impulse buy', but I got exactly what they were advertising.

I think most of the 'terrible Kickstarter' stories come from people having no idea how much VIDEO game development costs.
>>
>>49656181
One thing I backed was a webcomic artist wanting to having a printed copy of it. For that one, all the stretch goals (that I can remember) were for things like better paper or additional printing techniques.
>>
>>49659790
>pre-ordering something before you know exactly how good it is
Isn't that just pre-ordering, though?
>>
>>49659867
Yeah, I suppose I might have been redundant there by saying the same thing twice in two different ways.

The main difference is that for preorders, the thing is going to be made anyway and you just want one of the first copies. Kickstarter is (supposed to be) for projects that don't have the budget for the final mass production. So if there isn't enough backers, the product never gets made.

SJWs are unwitting pawns in the CIA's evolved manipulation program. They are surreptitiously fed subconscious programming that compels them to infiltrate and destroy hobbyist communities.

Why? Because men involved in these communities do not procreate and provide new cogs to the economic machine.
