Statwise, the assault cannon is closer in power to an autocannon (described as being similar to the main cannon of a 20th century battle tank) than it is a boltgun.

It shouldn't just fire fast, it should be loud as fuck, like a Gau-8. Not sound like a bog standard minigun, and the storm bolter certainly should not sound like a heavier weapon.

I always found that a little strange, that an assault cannon is more. I understand it to a degree, but it always found it strange that the assault cannon is more powerful than a HB.
also while it may be closer, it's like trying to compare the Autocannon to a Battle cannon just by number stat alone

If anything it's the other way around. Gau-8 is a tank-killer, and the Assault Cannon can kill tanks thanks to Rending.

You know, I really did not like it at first. The music seemed so at odds with everything I think 40k stands for. But each time I watch it, it grows on me. Almost like a damn fungus. Now I watch it and hear the forlorn wailing and rapid heartbeat of the song as they stand back to back, surrounded, with only each other in that hall and I just think, damn that feels right.

Still don't think it belongs in universe as something you should hear, but as an outsider looking in, it works.
