I'm into finance, which lets me support this hobby quite well.
I also play 40k and vidya, and am /fit/ although I haven't been there for a while
Anyways, Jailer got me thinking about cards that make you monarch and I thought thus of Marchesa. Would some kind of aggressive mardu DnT work? I feel like it wouldn't hurt to try
>>
>what do you cats do outside of magic?
College student studying Architecture, that's why I only play online, it's gonna be a long time before I can buy in
What other hobbies do you have?
A most vile pastime, League of Legends. I also run a lot.

>What do you cats do outside of Magic?
College Lasers Engineering student here. When I'm not playing Magic I'm doing homework, writing, or playing around with anything I find interesting on my computer (vidya, YouTube, etc.)

>How do you support the hobby?
I'm between jobs right now so I use the buffer I've built until my next job. Having to pay rent and do things on my own puts off the purchases I can make but I basically have the decks I want to play for now anyways. I tried running a TCGPlayer store but I don't have the resources to keep up with it right now.

>What other hobbies do you have?
I like martial arts and getting /fit/ (just started a new routine last week, hope it sticks). I'm also a writer so that takes up a lot of my free thinking time and my down time. Currently trying to get more knowledgeable about debating and how to put my beliefs into tangible words when challenged. I'd like to be a well-rounded man by the time I'm out of college.

Building a legacy deck is a pretty heavy undertaking where funds are concerned. After finishing ANT, I started work on a second edh deck since all my friends play it. Once I'm finished with that (just one more month), I can start thinking about a new legacy deck. I'll probably grab a city and a couple of wastelands and finish eldrazi so I can stop talking about it and then move on to either Reanimator or Miracles.

playing modern against a really sweet temur traverse/enormous goyf/ kiki exarch brew. I have a glistener elf and am dead on board to his maxed out goyf. he has 3 untapped and I know his hand is remand, exarch from a gitaxian probe. I have enough pump in hand to kill him after making elf unblockable with piracy charm, but not enough to cast it through remand. he lets might of old krosa and piracy charm resolve. my last spell is vines. I figure I have to make him believe I have something like a groundswell that I can recast through remand and kill him if the elf attacks. I stare him dead in the face and say "move to begin combat" he flashes in exarch to tap down the elf, and I don't think I've ever windmill slammed a vines faster.

Playing a doomsday mirror match. I duress him, coast is clear. I go off. Burning wish for tendrils, and the guy taps his SDT and draws a flusterstorm he'd been floating all game. Turns out his main deck protection suite was 4 Duress, 3 Flusterstorm, no therapy.
>worst blowout delivered
Playing against painter, he's telegraphing stifle. I have a ton of mana, storm, and and SDT +2xLED on board so I cast doomsday and build [Ideas unbound, led, probe, burning wish, lab man]. He stifles my top activation to draw into the pile so I can't storm kill this turn, but I lab man kill the him next turn and he is shocked.

I was thinking about building one of them on MTGO, or maybe Lich, or one of the other six billion decks I have in my Cockatrice deck folder. Maybe I'll finally finish that Yugioh Exodia OTK deck I was thinking about...

Playing against a Reanimator deck at my LGS. T1: LED, Land, Breakthrough, bust LED, Dredge 23 (got all three Trolls and a Stinkweed in my dredges), Flashback Faithless, Dredge 12 (Trolls went back to the grave), crack a few Therapies, reanimate FKZ, swing for 24. It was literally The Nuts feat. Dredge and I've never seen it happen again.

>>49619772
I dunno, most people in this thread are quite legit and it is an interesting discussion:
is bringing in many new players good or will those players just be scrubs and 12 year olds
but yea, I s'pose
>>
>>49619762
Same reason why Modern Masters helped destroy modern. Introduce a bunch of new players to the format without making a large enough impact on card availability, which means prices go up even more. Just look at mox diamond, city of traitors, crucible of worlds etc. Not only that but i've noticed a lot more people in these threads (which have become a lot more frequent and with heavier traffic) with no clue about the format

>>49619772
fuck off maro
>>
>>49619797
I just attributed diamond, city, crucible going up due to speculation
Doesn't affect me much though, I've got a solid collection to not have to buy much
>>
>>49619790
while there are more legit players for legacy now, there are far more scrubs who opened up one argothian elder and think that they can make a half assed deck around it, without any knowledge of the format meta
>>
>>49619748
>>49619790
My problem was they didn't really reprint things that desperately needed them, e.g., dual lands, fetches, Top, and those weird niche cards that are obscenely expensive for no good reason. Unfortunately, complaining about EMA ultimately leads to a discussion about the Reserved List, which by itself would constitute at least 200 replies in a whole separate thread.

I feel like they did the right thing with trying to increase the Eternal card pool, but I still think it caused more problems than it solved. A new set like that draws more people into formats with already tightly constrained card pools, which will only drive prices higher UNLESS they increase the supply of incredibly expensive cards.
>>
>>49619825
without going into reserved list discussion (which is difficult considering that is a big problem for legacy), if wizards really wanted to support eternal formats they would have decreased the cost of packs, while making EM a much larger print run. Master sets will always sell if the cost of packs are resonable. 10 for a random 15 cards is not reasonable
>>
>>49619797

It's fine. I'm a new player, Legacy seems a lot more forgiving for budget players, because of the greater variety of cards with similar functions, and there is a wider variety of tools to allow even janky homebrew decks to put up good fights. I'm making Monoblack Pox, personally.
>>
>>49619852
While I agree that a larger print run would have been a huge help, there's always going to be a regression to the mean. The EV of a pack will always modulate towards MSRP. Unless they can make all the rares in the set at least $7-8 and the uncommons good enough to meet the difference (which means they can put in very few expensive "reprint needed" cards) there's a hard limit on what they can do.
>>
>>49619797
>posts a one-sentence "legacy is dying" bait
>gets called out for being retarded
>"lol fuck off"
ok
>>
>>49619949
Unlimited print run sets like Conspiracy (or even block sets, see the Tarkir fetches for example) are the place for reprints. They substantially drop the prices of the cards included. They also don't cost 15 dollars a pack.
>>
>>49619949
or with a large enough print run that reduces the EV of packs to offset the value of cards, which would mean that stores that sell singles wouldnt be tempted to crack them and jsut sell the rares, and let big box stores like Target and Wal-mart sell them, and actually reduce the price of staples and therandom 200 dollar cards. Sorry if that didnt make sense, i'm pretty toasted right now.
>>
>>49619975
While I agree, wizards has made it clear that they don't want these cards in those formats, because they're too powerful for normal play.
>>
>>49619975
To be fair, em did significantly reduce the price for some cards. Not any cards we really needed it to though.
>>
>>49619988
I'm not really sure about that, seeing as berserk, show and tell, and burning wish were in CN2, along with anything else I might be forgetting.
>>
>>49619988
thoughtseize didnt cause theros packs to increase in MSRP, fetches didn't casue Khans to be more expensive, Conspiracy 2 was normal price. It's like master sets are designed to kill formats with card price spike. Look at tarmo in Modern Masters
>>
>>49620029
WotC is also on record as saying that Thoughtseize never should have been reprinted in THS, and in fact never should have been printed the first time in Lorwyn.
>>
Also what is with the spike in manaless dredge palyers? I built that deck like 4 years ago, knowing it was the shittiest and most fragile form of dredge, now there is like 4 people per thread (and 2 more at my FLGS) that play it and act like its a format breaking deck. I know its bad, thats why i made it
>>
>>49620082
Thats because all good cards are a mistake, anon.

Conspiracy 1 also cut the price of Stifle but 2/3rds. Do you think they included that card in the set because of how fun it is in draft? Of course not, its a dead card in draft.

>>
MaRo has stated that ultra mythic cards like Expedition lands and Masterpieces are how they will add needed reprints in the future.
>>
>>49620299
I know. I was referring to your post. They don't care about reprinting powerful cards, as long as they don't go in standard.
>>
>>49620310
Of course you agree with Rosewater. You play deck based around his pet mechanic don't worry so do I. reminder that Maro designed the dredge mechanic
>>
>>49620141
Thoughtsieze encourages midrange strategies though. Maybe if you were talking about Chrome mox or infernal tutor or something then that would make sense, but seize was literally most commonly used with rhino when both were in standard.
>>
>>49620327
Is he for real? He needs to be fired. Expeditions don't increase supply. For every one printed there's someone who already has the card but wants a new foil version.
>>
>>49620270

Sure, this was my list:

Parfait (Legacy)
Deck (40 of 40):
Draw Engine (8)
Land Tax x 4
Scroll Rack x 4

Silver Bullets (8):
Aggro: Web of Inertia x 1
Aggro: Island Sanctuary x 1
Aggro: Ghostly Prison x 1
Graveyard: Rest in Peace x 1
Damage: Ivory Tower x 1
Spell: Rule of Law x 1
Removal: Oblivion Ring x 1
Nonbasic Land: Back to Basics x 1

Tutor/Utility (6)
Enlightened Tutor x 4
Argivian Find x 2

Mana Artifacts (4)
Mox Diamond x 4, (need 4) substitute Fieldmist Borderpost x 4

Board Control (11):
Orim’s Chant x 4 (need 4) substitute Abeyance x 4
Wrath of God x 3
Swords to Plowshares x 4

Win Conditions (3):
Stuffy Doll x 1
Guilty Conscience x 1
Luminarch Ascension x 1

Lands (20)
Snow-Covered Plains x 14
Kjeldoran Outpost x 1
Snow-Covered Island x 1
Crystal Vein x 4

Sideboard (15 of 15):
Mountains: Conversion x 1
Swamps: Karma x 1
Aggro: Kismet x 1
Aggro: Pendrell Mists x 1
Protection: Faith’s Shield x 1
Affinity/Enchantress: Aura of Silence x 1
Affinity: Stony Silence x 1
Combo: Nevermore x 1
Combo: Trinisphere x 1
Creature Kill: Slow Motion x 1
Creature Steal: Binding Grasp x 1
Spells: Dovescape x 1
Grave: Tormod’s Crypt x 1
Alt Wincon: Thopter Spy Network x 1
Alt Wincon: Geist of Saint Traft x 1

Some advice I got for the deck:
Find space in the mainboard for Trinisphere as it will break combo decks better than other alternatives.
Energy Field mixed with Rest In Peace is a cute trick that staves off combo and aggro.
Mana Web plus Back to Basics might be fun
Think about mainboarding anti-miracles tech like Pithing Needle, seal of cleansing, or unexpectedly absent.

I'll probably still build it but Back to Basics shooting up in price due to the organized July buyout by #mtgfinance was super annoying. At least I only need one of them.
>>
>>49620358
HE admits that it isn't a real fix to problem, but in all fairness it does help a little while they figure out the reprint problem. Remember that mtg has only recently gotten as big as it has. They know that older players need reprints, but also don't want to scare off new player with another combo winter or affinity or caw-blade extinction event in standard. I fell within the next couple of years they will get. We get two special sets a year (master and conspriacy/archenemy) AND the commander sets. They are trying to find their groove without fucking up the introductary format of standard. Though they should have figured it out a decade ago when they were going ham on new planes and shit
>>
>>49620327

Calling Masterpieces sources of "needed reprints" is total fraud and dishonesty.
>>
>>49620401
Encouraging gambling with high variance 15 dollar "premium" boosters and ghost rare foils is the absolute wrong path. Magic has always been dangerously close to gambling for kids, and anything that goes in that direction needs to be corrected.

yehboii, looks fun
I got a question though. Isn't Luminarch Ascension bad as a win con? I remember another guy telling me that.
Also, what do you think about JTMS and Daze in Parfait?
>>
>>49620533

It's pretty dang slow, but being able to pop out 4/4 flying beatsticks is nothing to sneeze at. The biggest problem is that Parfait is working at a REALLY low mana count, so you can't abuse Luminarch Ascension as much as another style deck. So that's what got me thinking about Thopter Spy Network. It's double blue which is a bit difficult to swing, but once its out your mana rocks will help it pump out 1/1s every turn that also draw you cards.

Helm of Obedience is probably the best wincon you can put in a deck running Rest In Peace though. But if they abrupt decay or otherwise kill your Rest In Peace you're pretty much up shit creek without an alt wincon like Charbelcher, so I've been shying away from it. That's why I want to go the Stuffy Doll/Guilty Conscience route, because then I only have to worry about "exile" effects, which pretty much limits me to Swords to Plowshares I think. It means I can't run Humility though, which would turn all my creatures into 1/1s, and Humility is a pretty powerful silver bullet in and of itself.
>>

>playing

Dredge or maybe Nic Fit
>what is the biggest blowout play you've ever given/recieved?
One time against Sneak and Show he cast Misdirection on Orim's Chant. I tilted so hard.

>How do you support the hobby?
I'm a student, but I live with my parents. Most of the income from my part-time job is disposable.

>What other hobbies do you have?
I like tinkering with computers and cars. I run a lot and do a bit of longboarding and snowboarding. I'm an amateur fetish fiction writer. I listen to a lot of music, partcularly metal, prog, and psychedelic rock.
>>
>>49620533
>>49620270
>>49619664

Actually, I just remembered something. Old Parfait lists, before Rest In Peace was a thing, could run something like Crucible of Worlds, particularly if they were a Parfait deck utilizing Smokestack. Some even utilized Planar Rebirth/Sacred Mesa once the Tax/Rack engine was no longer needed to close out the game. Now, this does complicate things because Rest In Peace is a hell of a silver bullet, shutting off Deathrite Shaman, Grim Lavamancer, Goyf in addition to numerous Reanimator and Dredge strategies. However, if you'd like to use Crucible/Stax as a way to control the board, I think you could try substituting less broad graveyard hate. You also couldn't be running the Helm Combo, but as I said before, Helm/Rest In Peace is not without its own weaknesses. It also opens you up to using cards like Elixir of Immortality and makes Zuran Orb a better life-gainer.
>>
>>49621964
Helm still works with Leyline of the Void.

Or you could forgo Helm altogether and run a Tormod's Crypt, but that won't hate out other things like Goyf and Deathrite.
>>
>>49622144

The problem with Leyline of the Void is that you'd have to have it in your opening hand, or build a Black/White Parfait so you could actually Tutor for it. Because you don't want to be putting 4 copies of it in your deck as Parfait's whole deal is having tutorable silver bullets rather than redundancies.

>>
>>49628375
I played a jeskai stoneblade list for a while, before I had a tabernacle and stuff for Pox. Pretty much all of the cards for Miracles besides Terminus and Counterbalance were things that I already owned for that deck.
>>
Is young peezy decent in UR delver? I love the card but it's the creature that is the least like lightning bolt which is important for this deck. If yes, what should I cut? Stormchaser mage seems like the logical first choice, but it lowers our blue count for force which can be crucial

>>
>>49628704
Peezy is easily one of the strongest aggro creatures printed. I think it's definitely stronger than Stormchaser Mage. You have to realize that prowess is kinda shit when you want to cast spells on your opponent's turn (like Daze, Brainstorm, Price of Progress or whatever) but peezy generates value no matter what.

>>
>>49629465
Stoneblade decks are sweet, they have a more midrangey feel to them than miracles. Deck is fine and versatile. All the variants are fun and unique, I personally like Jeskai Stoneblade in preference to the rest, simple because it's the most versatile
>>
>>49628356
DnT against Oops on the draw. He mulls to five, has to pass the turn. I drop a plains. He draws, undercity informer, flips 3 Narcomoebas, I plow one and he scoops.

Game 2, he mulls to 6 and passes. I turn 1 Needle Azami. He doesn't have it turn 2, I drop Thalia and he scoops.
>>
>>49629551

Yeah that's why I liked Stoneblade, it actually turned shit sideways and felt more like a slow aggro-control than pure control. It has more novelty to me because I'm a veteran U/W Control and Draw-Go player from Onslaught and Urza block who hasn't played control in a long time.

Plus it would be very easy to splash into any third color which I'm assuming Miracles can't. I'm favoring B over R or G even though I'm pretty sure it's the most inferior splash for Blade decks.
>>
>>49629717
Oh miracles splashes very easily, the mana base is rock fucking solid so adding in a basic and another dual is nothing.

Stoneblade seems like the deck that a lot of old fashioned U/W control players like. I've never played the deck but I wanted to build it for the longest time until I saw BBD slay with miracles in a couple feature matches
>>
Well my LGS's first bi-monthly legacy tournament was tonight, and we had 11 people. Not bad. I lent out Pox and Burn, but that is 9 different people who own legacy decks, so that's great. I went 2-2 with one bye, so really only 1-2. I played against burn twice. fully 33% of the field was on burn, one of my worst matchups.

R1 vs DnT (1-2)
G1 i keep a 1-lander on the draw and my hand is too slow to get under his bears, and I can't get up enough mana to wish for massacre before he runs me over. G2 I get under his hate since I'm on the play. Game 3 I mull and keep probe, probe, LED, LED, burning wish, petal. If my draw for the turn or one of the probes finds me a land I can make 14 goblins on my first turn. it doesn't happen and I get run over.

R2 I get a bye.

R3 vs Burn (1-2)
G1 he has guide t1, eidolon turn 2, and i can't beat it. Game 2 he taps out on turn 3 for a blood moon while I have a basic island and 2 non-basics. I untap and dome him for 26 with tendrils. Game 3 I can combo him but he has a fireblast so i die.

R4 vs Burn (2-0)
G1 I win the roll and kill him turn 2. That's the ideal game one against burn. G2 I kill him turn 2 on the draw when he taps out to dome me. He shows me a pyroblast he could have held up, and I show him how if he telegraphed pyroblast I could have killed him without casting a blue spell.

End result: 1-2 in matches, 4-4 in games. Could be worse.

THERE IS SO MUCH BURN THERE HOLY SHIT. I know I contributed by lending out my burn deck but still. Of all the other decks there tonight, 2/10 were good matchups for me. I have some ideas on how to adapt, but if this shit continues I'll be switching to Belcher for a while.

>>

I actually sleeved up Lich and brought it but I couldn't bring myself to play it. It feels too inconsistent still. Since there are so few blue decks there I might just forgo all protection pre-board and make an all-in version and try that
>>
>>49631153
So something like this? Just deep into the combo?

4 Lotus Petal
2 Zuran Orb

4 Authochthon Wurm

4 Nefarious Lich
1 Lich

4 Brainstorm
4 Cabal Ritual
4 Dark Ritual
4 Nourishing Shoal
4 Ponder
4 Preordain
3 Lim-Dul's Vault
2 Sickening Dreams
1 Summoner's Pact

8 Fetches
3 Underground Sea
2 Swamp
1 Island
1 Bayou
>>
>>49631242
Basically. I might play 1 more land but with max rituals it may not be needed. Max out on rituals and up the consistency and just accept the loss to the rare blue decks in my meta. Post board I'd just throw haymakers vs whatever I was up against. Xantid swarm vs blue, flusterstorm vs blue and other combo (although there's very little of that too), Dread of night and sweepers vs Dnt. Round it out with a chain of vapor and a hurkyll's or 2. Honesty might be the best way to go even in a more open meta.

Chalice on 1 will win you quite a lot of games.
Your opponent can respond to Thought Knot Seer's trigger. Once you are looking at his/her hand and exiling a card, he can no longer respond by casting the card if it's an instant. Knowing which card to take from your opponent requires that you understand how their deck functions, so learning about other decks will help you.

Chalice is one of the best cards ever printed. Eldrazi is just boring because they run big vanilla creatures and no other lock pieces
>>
>>49637594
You know what else is boring? Prison strategies.
>>
>>49637988
I think a key distinction is that it's boring to play against, just like traditional aggro and control. control and prison are fun to pilot. fast combo is exciting to play with or against.
>>
>>49637594
I'd be content if Eldrazi were just vanilla creatures. What bothers me is that they are big creatures with "fuck you" abilities written on them. Thought-Knot Seer's ETB, Matter Reshaper's CA and Reality Smasher's discard protection on top of Chalice for 1 makes it very hard to play against, while the Eldrazi pilot virtually has one job: Turn creatures sideways.
>>
>>49637988
I would rather play against a prison deck than eldrazi. I play burn if that matters.
>>
>>49637988
>Spot the combo player
>>
>>49638321
My opinion is that Prison strategies are fought primarily in deckbuilding. If your deck contains 16-20+ one drops and no out to a Chalice, you'll likely lose to Chalice draws. If you run a deck with minimal basic lands, you'll probably lose to a Blood Moon. These battles are winnable, you just need a deck build to fight them.
>>
>>49619263

>How do you support the hobby?
Job and selling off my bulk magic cards. Realistically we play in a proxy heavy environment so even ÂŁ200 a month'll get you there eventually.

>What other hobbies do you have?
I have a regular roleplaying night, play the odd mini game (DFC anticipation currently) and watch box sets with my girlfriend, currently introducing her to Farscape. Love cooking, starting to get into watches a little and the usual fucking around with computers that comes with my job, also the odd bit of vidya that really catches my attention, currently the Witcher 3.

>what is the biggest blowout play you've ever given/recieved?
Chalice on 1 versus reanimator in testing. Game. Round 2 he mulls down, looks at me, sorts his hand, kind of nods and I start (not carrying win/loss, every game is game 1 as he's drilling for game 1 in a tournament). Take a punt and go for Chalice on 0. Opponent swears.
>>
>>49631810
Play Chalice on 1, 2 and 0. Play giant wibbly woobly creatures. Win.

>>49638321

>>49638414
Guilty. Though my opinion is half formed through playing as prison.
>>
>>49638433
I agree with this. Chalice is not a broken or OP card. You just have to build your deck with the card's existence in mind - same thing with Wasteland. Complaining about Chalice existing is not far away from playing dredge and complaining about Rest in Peace existing. If a card bothers you that much, then play a deck that doesn't fold to that card.

>>
>>49640544
I appreciate it man. It's just something I lose to. EE is probably not worth maining in ANT.
>>
>>49640594
A one of that gives you outs to Counterbalance, Thalia and Chalice seems good to me
>>
>>49640772
It's really shitty in a deck that needs its slots to be filled with cards that actually help it combo though, wish and something in the board is probably better ~~
>>
>>49640877
You have a couple flex slots, and if you're having difficulty losing to chalice, spheres, Thalia's and Miracles a lot its certainly worth one flex slot.
>>
Is Back to Basics a "replacement" for Blood Moon, or are they too different in effect for this to work? I ask merely because I own one but not the other.
>>
>>49640981
Oftentimes you only need one more ritual to play through Thalia, counterbalance requires some maneuvering and knowledge to play through. Chalice is the only one of them that is a brick wall provided you drew the wrong 60-70% of your deck. Finding the one off EE also seems harder than to play through whichever option your opponent has opted to play. It's certainly worth testing, but it'll probably end up as a waste of time unless you rethink a good part of the deck.
>>
>>49640981
Chalice is the only concerning permanent listed.
>>
>>49641066
Thalia is a kill agaisnt ANT G1. Finding EE is tough, but you can also just play through a Chalice. Thalia is my biggest fear playing ANT. Miracles is usually pretty good, but a Counterbalance is the way you lose.
>>
>>49641138
If by "play through a chalice" you mean "top deck in hope you draw the right cards before a second lock piece shows up or you die to aggro" then sure.
>>
>>49641138
Against Thalia you just have to set up for a combo turn and have 1-2 more rituals available. Unless they land both Thalia and Revoker you're good to go ~~
It seems you're unlucky with your cantrips if you think you're dead against g1 Thalia.
>>
>>49641250
I usually go off through Cabal Ritual's, Lotus Petal's and LEDs. Against Eldrazi they sometimes aggro you out, but the card is beatable in other decks

>>49641333
You need 10 extra mana to win through a Thalia. Thats more than 1-2 rituals.
>>
>>49641355
1-2 more than you'd otherwise need ~~
As long as you do a proper setup (preferably lucking out by not getting Revokered) it's generally doable through a PiF loop. Don't know if I'm just insanely lucky against Thalia in G1s... Thing is just that the 10 mana for Thalia isn't that hard when you're cantripping like a God or play a second Tendrils main ~~
>>
>>49641506
Are you cantripping into 3 LED's a lot?

>>49641701
Nope, certainly not. Two aren't uncommon but still not regularly appearing. Using PiF generally recoups enough, that's all.
3 LEDs are pretty much the dream ~~
>>
>>49628743
>storm guy not playing his own forces
>trying to go off without seeing opponents hand
>keeps a hand that can only go off via a single ritual

not that impressive to beat a scrub
>>
>>49641799
PiF costs five mana, Dark Rit produces 1 and Cabal Rit produces 2. You need an impressive hand to generate 10 extra mana through Thalia. I'm not doubting that you've done it, I just never have beaten a G1 Thalia while playing ANT.
>>
>>49625836 Here
I went ahead and bought 2 U Seas, a Badlands and some other minor cards. Tomorrow I'm getting LEDs and the rest of DDFT.
I also bought some nice foils, 1 Goose, 2 Spell Pierce, 2 Spell Snare, 2 Delver and 1 Dismember. Foiling out will take some time, but it's going to be a fun journey.
>>
>>49642175
What's your DDFT list going to look like? there are so many minor variations in lists that really affect the way the deck plays.
>>
>>49641853
to be fair, the prompt wasn't really to share an impressive story, just to share your fastest win. I imagine miracles doesn't get many t2 kills.
>>
>>49638433
>>49638321
I think that's mostly true for chalice/moon decks which have come to define prison, but I think prison is also the archetype with the most potential to be fun, mono black pox is just fun to play against as can D&T.
Also 'These battles are winnable, you just need a deck build to fight them.' is BS: there will always be decks that lose to turn 1 chalice, you can't just blame the person playing the deck.
>>49640075
>You just have to build your deck with the card's existence in mind - same thing with Wasteland.
Not the same at all, wasteland doesn't just beat entire decks, you don't need to build around wasteland much at all.
>playing dredge and complaining about Rest in Peace existing
OK, RIP is complete bullshit, this is acknowledged by everyone that doesn't viciously hate graveyard decks.
>If a card bothers you that much, then play a deck that doesn't fold to that card.
I don't get you guys can't just fucking admit it isn't fun to play against a single card that stops you from playing most of your cards. Why do you guys have to make the dumbest arguments "you can just play a completely different deck" is not a good justification at all. Especially when about half of the decks in entire format lose to chalice on 1.
>>
>>49642815
He was joking, he listed 3 things that would only be considered scrubby by the ultimate scrub. He literally listed 'storm guy not playing his own forces'.
>>
>>49637115
Drowned to death, we are still trying to resuscitate.
>>
>>49643034
I wouldn't fault someone for building a deck that folds to Chalice. I would fault them for complaining about losing to Chalice. In reality, its not that they built a deck that loses to Chalice. Someone built a deck that beats their deck.

On a related note, where can an American find 4x German Fairgrounds Wardens
>>
I don't think there's a Burn Guy yet and since I've been visiting this general rather frequently lately I decided why the fuck not.

My current list:

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Chain Lightning
4 Rift Bolt
4 Lava Spike
4 Goblin Guide
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
21 Mountain
2 Exquisite Firecraft
3 Fireblast
4 Price of Progress
2 Sudden Shock
SB: 2 Exquisite Firecraft
SB: 4 Smash to Smithereens
SB: 4 Faerie Macabre
SB: 3 Ensnaring Bridge
SB: 2 Pyrostatic Pillar

Since I don't use fetches I don't run Lavamancer, but I don't think he's needed nowadays anyway. No Vortex because the vast majority of decks with lifegain have it through equipment, and I'm already running 4 Exquisite Firecrafts total and don't want to clog the deck with too many 3 cmc cards.
>>
>>49643367
Whats up with cutting a Fireblast? That also looks like it could be a great Flame Rift build
>>

Anyone here familiar with vintage? I was thinking of going to the GP in Dallas to play side events and I was going to bring this deck.
Any advice?
>>
>>49645322
looks fine to me senpai. I haven't played vintage since Mentor was printed and it got real dumb.
>>
>>49645426
For my sideboard I have

1 Flusterstorm
1 Swords to Plowshares
1 Kataki, War's Wage
2 Grafdigger's Cage
2 Pyroblast
2 Stony Silence
2 Rest in Peace
2 Containment Priest
2 Wear // Tear

I think that's about as good as it will get against a completely unknown environment, but I keep thinking that maybe I should run Ingot Chewer or Disenchant or something in case I get hit with a Chalice of the Void on 1.
>>
>>49645322
Why the two Misties as opposed to more Scalding Tarns or Arid Mesas?
>>
>>49645519
I just grabbed 2 lands that could fetch Island.
>>
>>49645322
>all that money contained in one small picture
Nice, bruv. Is that all 5 Moxes and a Lotus?

I don't see Baleful Strix or Snapcaster Mage. Did you decide to go for a more control route by grinding them out instead of using recursion and value? You've got a lot of graveyard sideboard hate here >>49645502, are you expecting to see a lot of Dredge?
>>
>>49645625
I almost put in a Jace, Vryn's Prodigy in place of a mentor, but I don't think I really need the recursion. If I wanted to get really crazy I would be playing esper mentor with Demonic Tutor and Yawgmoth's Will, because that shit gets zany quick.
As for my board, 4 of those cards hate on both Dredge and Oath of Druids.
>>
>>49645502
I'd run Chewer over Stony Silence. I haven't looked at any shops lists recently but I feel like it doesn't do enough and you'd rather be blowing up lockpieces
>>
>>49645734
Stony Silence can get a bit awkward for me as well. I'm also starting to think I might not need the 3rd swords in the board. I'm going to axe it and the Stony Silences for 3 Ingot Chewer.
>>
Since people are speaking about it, what do you think of a Moon/chalice deck stompyish with new Chandra as wincon? With bridge it can be strong. Also bonus points for pitching her to pyrokinesis.
>>
>>49646309
I think that Koth is still a better finisher for Blood Moon stompy decks. He comes down at the same time, but provides a much faster clock which is what you want once you have your prison piece in play.
>>
>>49645322
You've built that to beat the Blue mirror, but you'll eat shit to Eldrazi/Shops/Hatebears
>>
>>49647114
Regarding sideboarding, your deck has 8 cards that have no text against those decks, and 6 cards to bring in against Ravager Shops, 1 to take in against Eldrazi, and 1 to take in against Hatebears
>>
>>49647114
>>49647230
How would you address this? I don't really get to play much vintage, so I appreciate any advice y'all can give me.
>>
>>49647364
To start, I'm mostly a Hatebears or Shops player so this is colored from that angle.

I generally like the full compliment of Swords in your 75, it's your best answer to Eldrazi and good against Shops, and possibly even 1-2 Paths.

Supreme Verdict is also surprisingly playable, at least 1 in the sideboard if not one in the maindeck.

Dack is not as good against Shops as he used to be, largely because of TKS. I would cut one

While Wear//Tear is flexible, it's too slow to do much against Shops. I recommend running Ingot Chewer over it, and possibly a Shattering Spree or two.

You're running 2 Pyroblast, 2 Flusterstorm main, 2 Pyroblast 1 Flusterstorm Sideboard. In general, I think this is way too focused on beating blue. I don't think you have enough cards to board out to board that all in. I would cut the Pyroblasts off the board, and possibly trim down to 2 Pyro/1 Fluster total in the main with 1 Flusterstorm in the sideboard.

I might consider adding in Snapcaster or JTMS to the maindeck, upping your removal count, adding 1 Engineered Explosives to the maindeck, then replacing some of the Blue hate in your sideboard with Shops/Eldrazi hate.If you want to go control Mentor, I'd replace Mana Crypt with Sol Ring. If you want to go Aggro Mentor I'd add 2 Gitaxian Probes and 2 Young Pyromancers. The deck is customization central, I'd just recommend not getting tunnel visioned into fighting blue mirrors. Also, consider whether you want to run 3 or 4 Gush, its a real discussion.
>>
>>49637115
There's like 6 people that actually own legacy decks. But they're organizing a proxy league that alternates between modern and legacy, that's attracting about 16 players.
>>
>>49646309
I've built Quad Laser Bridges stompy, and she's good as a compliment to your other Planeswalkers. Koth is better, but she's still worth a couple slots.

Dragon Stompy just got such a huge shot in the arm from the last couple sets that I think I'd rather run that.
>>
>>49643034
>I don't get you guys can't just fucking admit it isn't fun to play against a single card that stops you from playing most of your cards.

DnT with a bit of Reanimator for Marchesa sounds like a load of fun
>>
>>49643367
I respect your decision of not going Lavamancer. It's good if your meta doesn't countain annoying creatures like Deathrite Shaman and Delver. I also like the two exquisites and two Sudden Shock mainboard.
Not sure if I like the Faerie Macabre, how have they been working for you? I take it they're great against reanimator and much worse against dredge.
Personally I don't run Vortex because of anti life gain as much as the consistent damage over time vs. prison decks.

EMA wasn't really supposed to bring down the cost of the format

It was just for hype, force of will chase raring for the addicts, and a little nostalgia for older limited players

It was a nice handout to older players with dual lands who saw the prices bump up immediately after the announcement.
>>
Still practicing TES and I sure learned my lesson against Lands.

>Turn 1 Land, pass
>Turn 2 Gitaxan Probe his hand
>See no Force of Will but a crop rotation and more lands
>Think I got this because he has no way to stop my combo and start comboing off
>Go for the Past in Flames line
>In response he cracks Crop Cycle and gets Bojuka Bog

Well that shows my inexperience with that deck and that matchup. If you're not winning then you're learning!
>>
>>49649387
Harsh, but valuable, lesson to be learned for sure, did you have any other line available which you would've picked if you'd known about the bog?
>>
>>49649460

If I recall he had a line to go get Dark Depths with the Crop Cycle and then Thespian's next turn so I didn't really want to give him the chance, he wouldn't have been able to cast Crop Cycle if it wasn't for the turn 1 Mox Diamond. I probably could have gone for the Ad Nauseam line but I think I just had more red mana than black and i was trying to storm for a really good Warrens.
>>
>>49649582
>crop cycle
Crop Rotation

i don't even fear Lands any more with the inclusion of Eldrazi Displacer, Heretic Waifu and Sanctum Prelate.
>blink your token

>>
>>49649582
Warrens is a pretty bad option against lands as well. If they're on a "correct" build as of the current design they should be playing The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale which is equally fetchable with crop rotation ~~.
Best line would probably have been to either go ad nauseam that turn or pass and dig one card deeper pre-ad nauseam
>>
>>49649609

>Crop Cycle

I don't know why I said this when I said Crop Rotation and had it right the first time. This is that time when you start thinking too much and card names start merging in your head.
>>
>>49649627

Yeah afterwards I realised that was also an option for the opponent but I just figured he would just try and get a Marit Lage out for the fast win. Either way inexperience got me and a lesson is learned though and I should be a bit more patient in comboing off. It's not that i'm a stranger to combo decks, just a stranger to TES. I really do enjoy the deck though.
>>
>>49649656
I'm pretty much the opposite, I've been playing way too much ANT and grinding station so I'm not aggressive enough ~~
A more proper style is steadily growing though.

Do you play the stock list from Cook or some variety?
>>
>>49649675

Sticking to the stock list until I know the matchups and sideboard plans 100% off memory and if I need to adjust for my local meta. e.g Xantid Swarms. Who am I to argue against the guy playing and built the deck for like an odd number of years?
>>
>>49649764
Seems reasonable, I've been testing a version with two cabal rituals in place of two of the chrome moxes and a heavier wishboard. It hasn't been that pleasing so I'm probably switching it up to the stock list for tonights legacy weekly. What are your thoughts on the list so far?
>>
>>49649890

I'm thinking I need something better to bring in against Reanimator and how I will deal with a Kambal, Consul of Allocation.
>>

Do I get a card with Cascade cascade and cascade or cascade cascade cascade?
>>
>>49649934

>What version of reanimator are you having trouble against?

The ones that always resolve Iona somehow.

Also Kambal is just going to mess up the mental arithmetic I have to do if I end up having to resolve an Ad Nauseam line beause i'll need to Storm higher but every time I do it cancels out one Tendrils copy. Problems! I may just have to look for a line where I grapeshot him and then slap down a bunch of goblins.
>>
>>49649950
Probably:
"Cascade

Creatures you control have haste.

Cascade, cascade"

Which in turn is functionally "Cascade, cascade, cascade". How did the question appear and what is the relevance of "Cascade cascade and cascade" versus "cascade cascade cascade"?

>>49649971
Iona is inherently a pain. Race it or make sure you wish for snare before it lands, there's not much more to be done about that card.
I've been lucky enough not to have seen Kambal yet, but shouldn't you be able to just go under him? He could be a pain in esper decks playing DRS to land him on t2 with FoW back-up, but otherwise it should be doable as he's a t3 play, no?
>>
>>49649991

Nobody is running Kambal yet in many lists but it's only a matter of time before they do. I suspect most likely in B/W Death and Taxes lists will be able to slap him in somewhere form the side and they'll be running Thalia's in there to boot.
>>
>>49650016
I'm gonna stick him in my miracles deck SB because he's pretty good against a lot of the field in my opinion
>>
>>49650016
In TES your plan is generally to go under the hate instead of directly dealing with it. In DnT he comes down a turn after Thalia, which is a bigger problem that you generally avoid dealing with by going off early. Post-board Cook advises to put in both Decay and grapeshot, your matchup against DnT shouldn't change by much even when Kambal comes and tries to ruin your day.

>>49650120
This'll be a great challenge moving forward, Miracles splashing black for Kambal seems pretty fucking annoying to play against...
>>
>>49648597
I'm constantly messing with the sideboard.
The thing with Burn is, you don't have any sort of card selection so you are entirely dependent on mulligans to draw your hate cards. So if you really want to beat graveyard decks, you have to run a playset of hate. If you aren't going to commit fully to beating them, don't even bother. There are Burn sideboards that only run 2 or even 1 gy hate card. What's the point then?
Grafdigger's Cage would be the ideal choice against Dredge, but I find that just delaying them a turn with Faerie Macabre can be enough to steal the game.
>>
>>49648217
Whats that deck ? Never heard of it and Google doesnt turn anything good.
>>
>>49647833
Okay, thanks. I slept on it and now I think I'll go -1 Mentor, -1 Flusterstorm, -1 Pyroblast, -1 Dack Fayden, +1 Snapcaster Mage, +1 Supreme Verdict, +1 Shattering Spree, +1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Sideboard will be
1 Pyroblast
1 Supreme Verdict
1 Flusterstorm
1 Kataki
2 Grafdigger's Cage
2 Swords to Plowshares
2 Containment Priest
2 RiP
3 Ingot Chewer

Will probably still tweak some numbers from there, but I think that should shore up those matchups.
>>
So here's the new DDFT list i'll be testing in response to my weird local meta.

MAIN:
3 Doomsday
4 Burning Wish
1 Ideas Unbound
1 Chain of Vapor
4 LED
3 Lotus Petal
4 Dark Ritual
1 Rain of Filth
4 Brainstorm
4 Ponder
4 Probe
4 SDT
3 Duress
3 Cabal Therapy
1 Collective Brutality
4 Polluted Delta
4 Bloodstained Mire
2 Underground Sea
1 Volcanic Island
1 Badlands
1 Bayou
2 Island
1 Swamp

BOARD:
1 Doomsday
1 Tendrils
1 Infernal Contract
1 Massacre
1 Cabal Therapy
1 Empty the Warrens
1 Time Spiral
3 Abrupt Decay
1 Tropical Island
2 Xantid Swarm
1 LabMan
1 Collective Brutality

Going to a chain of vapor build with only 16 lands and 3 lotus petal for speed. Keeping lab man in the board. Dropping to 3 decay, no emrakul package because there aren't any decks it's good against. I might move the trop to the main to fee another side slot, but i like having 3 basics and the option to go up to 17 lands. Time spiral is a test slot. Haven't needed it yet, but it has uses. Collective Brutality has been testing well. Started with 1 main, added another to the side. Good against blue decks and bears. All 3 modes can be relevant vs burn.
>>
>>49629465

Deathblade is still pretty good, and it's not too hard to build it to beat Miracles if you want. TNN is the truth
>>
Why is Mind Twist banned?
>>
>>49652747
they didn't ban anything this time, so they're waiting to do their prisoner exchange thing
>>
>>49652747
Here's what I found from (i assume) the official MTG discussion.
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/rec.games.trading-cards.magic.rules/zysaEtpR7v4

Basically it's because Type 1 was all about card domination and Mind Twist immediately puts you ahead. Swamp, Ritual, Ritual, Mind Twist gives you an obscene advantage. It also has the plus of hitting lands which Wizards didn't like. Back then, in a format of fast mana via Moxen and Lotus, Mind Twist could get really nasty real fast. That's what I've been able to glean, anyways.
>>
>>49652733
Last time I asked, people pretty much advised against Deathblade due to its flimsy manabase, but I just really want to build it ;_;

>>49652747
Mind Twist is pretty nuts, but it doesn't feel that much better compared to Hymn. The reason is most likely that it absolutely destroys your chances if someone were to go: swamp > rit > rit > mind twist
>>
>>49652747
Grandfathered in; but never unbanned. Presumably because while it isn't broken, they don't see how the game would be made more fun by unbanning it.
>>
>>49652881
if you want to build it, go for it. who cares if it sometimes gets dicked on by wasteland? you can always just fall back on reanimator to keep people on their toes. follow your heart.
>>
>>49651085
It's something I brewed. Its like Dragon Stompy, but with 2 extra mountains, the creatures are just Rabblemaster, Magi of the Moon and Hanweir Garrison, then you run 4 Ensnaring Brisge as extra lock pieces. Koth and Chandra are good clocks that can win behind a bridge.

It tends to be really good against Eldrazi, Show and Tell and Miracles, and you can build a board to beat a couple other things
>>
>>49652881
I built it and even managed to cram a couple wastelands of my own into the deck. The distribution of fetches and dials gets a bit tricky when you are running 4 colors though. Scrubland + tropical island lets you cast pretty much all of your 2 drops (abrupt decay, baleful strix, stoneforge), but you'll find yourself wanting underground sea to do something like thoughtsieze on 1 into brainstorm+fetchland on turn 2. Wasteland can be backbreaking when your mana base is already fighting you like that.

Besides deathrite shaman, brainstorm, force, and some number of stoneforge mystics, none of the list is ever set in stone. It's just a goodstuff deck.
>>
>>49652747
Mind Twist is banned because it was oppressively good with Moxen, Dark Ritual, Lotus and Mana Crypt.
>>
I would make my decks bad just to make room for rits just to mind twist = 4 my opponent turn one. Straight into FoW. #noregrets
>>
I would probably try to find room for 1-2 Twist, with City, Tomb, Mox Diamond and Signet/Talismans it would be pretty easy to effectively twist someone out of the game and in a pinch I could even Twist myself to turn on Bridge.

Reanimator. Looks fun, and I could do with a bit of control. Need more Forces, though. Might try Rakdos Reanimator.
>Blowouts
Storm and fast combo lend themselves to blowouts in one way or the other, so it's difficult to say. Beat D&T with a turn-2 Tendrils from a no-land hand a few weeks back.

Also, any time you can chain Lotus Petals into Chain of Vapor against an Ethersworn Canonist, the look on the other guy's face is usually priceless.

A while back I was on Belcher, and my opponent was on Show and Tell. Around turn 3-4, he Show and Telled Emrakul. I Show and Telled Belcher and fired.

Biggest recent blowout against me was probably Sunday. Game 2, turn 1, Pondered a Chain of Vapor to my hand. Passed turn. Opponent looted and reanimated Sire of Insanity. I was tapped out.

Most ridiculous nonsense to happen in a while: I was playing against 12-Post. Punted bigtime by Emptying for 18 T1, knowing he didn't run Tabernacle but forgetting that he ran Glacial Chasm. He Rotated into Chasm end step, then didn't find anything and bled out when I had no lands, two irrelevant cards in hand, and 18 goblins that couldn't do anything.

>>49627344

Storm and Painter. Both are really, really nasty against Lands.

Fast combo is also a problem.

>>49629667

Sounds like he wasn't playing an optimized list. Azami/Angel isn't as foolproof as Cerberus, and he really punted if he had two Bridges and a Therapy in his graveyard. I'm guessing he didn't.

I tried playing the the 2DP 14 Land build but got frustrated of seeing too many tutors in my opening hand and I missed the 15th land. I'm just over DP at this point. So far I've been satisfied with the 2 PiF build. PiF is the card I almost always want to draw.

as for my sideboard, the surgical is mainly for the mirror, as there's 3 other storm players there, and a BR reanimator player. Other than that the list is pretty typical.

>Can share mine if you're interested
It's always fun to see how others come to their lists.

I'm an MTGSalvation junkie myself. Legacy threads are slow no matter where you go.

Cool stuff! My maindeck's almost identical; only changes are some of the fetches (I run 4 Polluted, 2 Tarn, 1 Flooded, 1 Bloodstained) and a second Preordain instead of the ninth fetchland.

I like Petition, but I found double-Past in Flames to be super for dealing with countermagic. Past in Flames is probably the best card in the deck. Been testing a Top in place of the Petition and it's going better than I'd expected: Ad Nauseam's working much better, but I still miss a fifth tutor. I also keep finding that I flood on 15 lands more than I get no lands on 14, so I've got a Bayou in the sideboard. Seems like everybody has a slightly different experience with their land base.

My sideboard's a lot different, in part because of the metagame. I'm on this:
4x Abrupt Decay
2x Tendrils of Agony
2x Chain of Vapor
2x Hurkyl's Recall
1x Krosan Grip
1x Empty the Warrens
1x Cabal Therapy
1x Disfigure
1x Bayou

I keep feeling like I over-sideboard against Miracles and it's not played much where I am, so I might cut the K-Grip (at least for the local metagame). I don't have a ton of experience against that deck, so not sure. Debating adding one or two copies of Echoing Truth, and maybe bringing back Massacre. The fourth Therapy is experimental; considering trying it or a Duress against Reanimator and Eldrazi. Hurkyl's speaks for itself, though Eldrazi's such a bad matchup I might cut them loose.

I actually really like Surgical Extraction. I'm thinking about throwing one or two back into the 'board if I can trim some cards that don't do much where I am.

How do you like Xantid and Echoing Truth? Have you tried Flusterstorm?

Yeah, I feel like it's tough to find the perfect place to talk strats. I'm really happy I've been seeing active Legacy threads on /tg/ this past week or so. I haven't visited in a while, and last time I was here it was all Standard and Commander.
>>
Alright /tg/, time for another Doomsday thought exercise.
Create a Shelldock Emmy pile that does not require you to pass the turn.
>>
>>49655898
hmm, I haven't tried to do one of these, but since Shelldock etb's tapped I guess is had to be a LED for UUU and Time Spiral to untap it pile, right?

>How do you like Xantid and Echoing Truth?
Xantid swarm is there to keep your opponents honest and to scare them in keeping removal in. I bring it in once in a while against decks like miracles and stoneblade. It's mostly for show and tell decks which is rather uncommon around and not really played around here, though some players do have the deck. It's probably not worth having, all things considering, but I can't really bring myself to take it out.

I've been really happy with Echoing Truth. I used to run 2x Chain of Vapor, but there's a lot of chalice decks like Eldrazi and Aggro Loam that I feel the change is necessary. I also used to run 2x Hurkyls, but I feel like Echoing Truth does much of the same and you can bring it in more matchups.

>Have you tried Flusterstorm?
lol, honestly I haven't, and neither have any of the storm players around here. I guess we're just slow (or unwilling) to change. Players just run whatever list that gave them the most success in the past. Something like switching a Duress in the main for a Thoughtseize is a big deal, for example.
>>
>>49656242
Small world, I still think it was a colossal mistake to computerize their entire eternal stock, I think having piles of Legacy staples in the display probably incited a lot of "wait, thats a card?" impulse buys from mostly EDH players, seen it happen a million times. It's nice to be able to quickly check if they have a card though if you need something specific.
>>
>>49656045
Never been to pandaemoniun. I live in NH and it's a bit farther than I want to go to play magic. I've considered going down for larger eventals. But when a band from Japan that you like comes to boston, you drive to boston. Almost drove to NY to see Maximum the Hormone a while back but it was on a weekday and I lacked dedication.
>>49655898
In hand: LEDx3, dark ritualx3, doomsday. On board you need an SDT. Cast led''s rituals, then cast doomsday with BBBB floating. Make this pile: [probe, probe, burning wish, shelldock isle, emrakul]. Crack led's for uuurrrbbb. Tap top to draw probe, cast probe to draw top, repeat until you draw burning wish, wish for tendrils. Ignore shelldock isle and emrakul because you just domed them for like 26.
>>
>>49656585
I just went in there earlier this year and was really disappointed. I liked seeing all the cool old ass cards. Now its just standard shit.

Will they ever admit that they are in no way a book store?
>>
>>49656045
>>49656885
SDT on the field, play and LED, cast Doomsday and create the pile:
IU
Shelldock
Cloud of Fairies
Emmy
Blank

Or if you have UUU and Brainstorm in hand
Shelldock
Cloud of Fairies
Emmy
Blank
Blank
>>
>>49619268
Where's Affinity?
>>
>>49657833
The first pile might not win you the game. You'll only get one turn to attack. Also, I think the dedicated shelldock isle/emmy/cloud of fairies is worse than ddft in a world of wastelands like we have now
>>
>>49652707
How do you use Collective Brutality? Example piles?
>>

As I remember, there was never a time when legacy was a format and tempest hadn't been printed. I think they came out the same year.

Maybe you mean a local meta, I've never been in a wasteland free meta

If you could go back to the Legacy metagame of any year, which would it be? I miss 08-09; when this guy would make you shit your pants, Mystical Tutor was legal, Derp and Tell couldn't run Yawg Bargain and Instant Win Dude, and Countertop ran Tarmogoyf. The format was so open, it was great.

I also miss that time. 4c landstill is my favorite deck (RIP)

Also Survival before Vengevine.

>>49656271

Yeah, I'm with you about Echoing Truth versus Chalice decks. I tend to bring in Chains against hatebears and things like 12-Post (bouncing Marit Lage feels good, man), and I tend to use the Hurks for stuff like Eldrazi and Lands. I guess I feel like I've got some sideboard space to spare, otherwise I'd probably take out the Hurkyl's Recalls for something to fight Miracles.

Truth is definitely a good card to save space in the sideboard, but I keep feeling like I'd rather have other stuff when I'd bring it in. I guess it's a matter of preference.

I don't know, though; I haven't had much opportunity to practice against Miracles, and I feel like over-sideboarding is something that can really wreck our game against them. I've only been bringing in Decays, Tendrils, and K-Grip (SDT didn't used to be in my main deck), but I kept feeling like I would just fold to Mentor without finding enough get-there stuff to have game.
>>
>>49658365
>>49658459
I didn't mean to imply the format was ever wasteland-free, just that I feel there are many more these days. Such that they make a deck that relies on a single nonbasic land to win you the game not as viable as it perhaps once was.
>>
>>49658795
Tha makes sense. I've pretty much always played Wasteland decks so I'm used to always seeing them?
>>
>>49657929

Affinity's got some issues in Legacy. It's fast, but not fast enough to deal with a bunch of other things in the format that'll really knock it over.

There's a lot more (and better) hate for it in Legacy than there is in Modern—maybe even more than there is for graveyards—and a lot of it is integral to the decks that run it.
>>
Is lands still viable ? Last time I played was before theros.

>>
>>49658941

>>49658896
Unlike modern, most decks don't pack a lot of Artifact hate. Last time I played it, it's actually pretty strong, resilient, and capable of really fast kills. It's a little inconsistent, but it's very powerful.
>>
>>49659062

Yeah, the main problem is that it's not as fast as the fast decks and it's not as consistent as slower ones. A big problem is just facing a deck like Dredge, Belcher, or Miracles that'll dump a boatload of tokens on you faster than you can get a Ravager going or flood the board. That or getting the Drils.

The other problem is just that there's a bunch of stuff that shuts it off really easily like Tabernacle, Glacial Chasm, or Terminus. It's not just artifact hate that it needs to worry about.

It's not a bad deck by any means, it's just that it doesn't work as well as other things do, even other decks that are relatively easy to blanket-hate.
>>
>>49659366
I actually like the Miracles matchup. Plating is a beating against them, and you generally try to run Orni/Pest/Scourge to get over the top. Thoughtcast is also surprisingly strong in grindfests.

Combo decks are generally the weakness. I've tried a couple different builds to shore them up, my last build being a Chalice deck that was pretty consistent. You can get t3-4 wins, and along with permenant based hate you can actually be only slightly unfavored. Lands is still a shit matchup but not much you can do unless you target it specially.

I think it's underrepresented because it's difficult to build, and for the usual cyclical reasons decks fall out of favor.
>>
>>49658272
I don't really use it in piles. If you had enough mana it could play the role of duress ot chain of vapor in piles, but either of those would be better. It's a duress against blue decks, and kills thalias, canonists, Eidolons, delvers, deathrites, etc. Testing it out for the utility it provides. I like 1.

I love making Miracles players salty as fuck. I had my last Miracles victim call my deck an "Unplayable shitbrew" after Palace Jailer kicked the everloving shit out of them.

I think he mostly just underestimated Suppression Field. In the last match I was attacking for lethal, he had Arid Mesa and Top untapped with a Supression Field in play. He attempted to Terminus me and was not very happy with the results.

To be fair, he was clearly a new Miracles player because I've definitely slaughtered him with DnT before

I believe this is the mantra of the Prison player. I have said this to players before for the rub-ins if they're being particularly nasty.

I really love Prison/Stax decks, that's why I play Stompy. Nailing that Trinisphere+Nether Void combo to make everything cost at least 6 is so good.
