Pathfinder General /pfg/

Friendly reminder to tell us what 3pp your game allows if you need character building help.

If you had to pick one and only one, would you rather have a blinkling or a kitsune in your party?

Can I get some feedback and input on my homebrew class, the Empyrius?

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xQMlB45-UFEWCB2ffqoBUMhR-t4afSXLk29fgTJNVyw/edit

Its designed to be a well-rounded class capable of covering offense and support with a few crowd control tricks.

Its main encompassing theme is a person capable of harnessing 'Essence'. A catch-all term for Ki, Powerpoints, Grit, etc.

He may use these Essences and shape them to either bolster his allies by using the Augment Essence Quintessences or to harm his foes using the Augment Siphon Quintessences.

>Page 2 "It is equivalent to a spell whose level is equal to 1/2 the avowed's class level (minimum 1st level)."
Should also have a "maximum 9th level" line

>Page 5 Body of the Fiend: "You gain damage reduction/silver or damage reduction/cold iron (chosen when you gain this ability) equal to 1/2 your avowed level"

This feels too strong, 1/2 level DR is Barbarian tier even if this one is overcome-able. I recommend it be dropped to 1/3 level.

>Page 6 Indebted (new subtype): "However, if your soul gem is physically present when a spellcaster uses raise dead, resurrection, or a similar spell on your corpse, the spellcaster does not need to provide the normal material components for the spell.

Way way too good. Free resurrections are a no no. I think it should be changed to have the gem let you use it in place of a body or body part when casting those spells. Also it needs to be clarified what happens to their soul gem after they come back. Also what happens if you crush it while the person is still alive.

In general, I think "Shape Clauses" and "Clauses" are too close in name. Perhaps change "Clauses" to "Utility Clauses"?

This link (and the uploaded PDF on the left) is to an 18-page preview, including the base class, enough options to play all the way to level 10, and a single pact (fiends). There'll be more to come about midway through October, once I get the rest written up, including many more pacts, several archetypes, and a buttload more abilities to pick from.

>Should also have a "maximum 9th level" line
I don't actually see why? There's spells higher than 9th level (heighten some stuff with metamagic reducers).

>This feels too strong, 1/2 level DR is Barbarian tier even if this one is overcome-able. I recommend it be dropped to 1/3 level.

It's DR that's overcome by many weapons, and also barbarian is a fucking awful benchmark for DR, since their DR is basically worthless until high levels. 1/3 level would be completely and utterly useless, not even worth putting on your character sheet. Honestly, between the perception issues inherent in people overvaluing DR, and this actually not being strong, I'll probably replace Body of the Fiend with something different and more useful.

>Free resurrections are a no no
I don't really agree; it's a strong potential risk if your patron has reasons for wanting to keep you, and free resurrections are imho very good for the game. I can see it causing problems potentially, though. I'll alter it to halve the cost and count as the body instead.

>Also it needs to be clarified what happens to their soul gem after they come back

Whoops, was meant for the gem to stop existing as long as you're alive.

Reposting this again now that I have refined the idea.

I have done more reading of the Unchained Barbarian and am separating out the design decisions it made that I liked. What I have seen that messes with the barbarian class is that there are a lot of must have rage powers, such as superstition. Finding a barbarian without superstition is like finding a needle in a haystack.

So I've thought about this fact and come to a conclusion for the design of the Unchained Barbarian. If there is a class feature from a list that players will simply always take, then there shouldn't even be an option there.

My other decision is that this is to be rolled into a new class feature called Tribal Heritage. Tribal Heritage will replace all the current "Totem" rage powers. At first level, much like a cavalier chooses a totem, one would choose a Tribal Heritage. This comes with an automatically scaling totem, a modified superstition (superstition that one has more control over for when they use it+ a small different bonus) and two entirely new things.

>additional skill suite
skill trick (basically a unique way of using a skill, like the current cavalier orders have) + bonus class skills

>modified rage
Every tradition will have a small modification to rage, like orders modify challenges.

This new feature will come at the cost of Trap Sense and DR. Both of these will become Rage Powers (DR possibly becoming two).

So the only static class feature Barbarian now has is Fast Movement and Rage, all others have some form of character input (either choosing a tradition or a rage power).

As well something I have been thinking about is Barbarian's lack of out of combat versatility. For this I examined the new stances that exist as rage powers. I have thought of the possibility of such stances to include some thematic abilities, such as ranger favored terrain bonuses, scent, and more that can be used while not raging.

General thoughts of a redesign of the unchained barbarian?

>I don't actually see why? There's spells higher than 9th level (heighten some stuff with metamagic reducers).
Mainly for consistancys sake. Compare to the Kineticists wording: "an effective spell level equal to 1/2 the kineticist's class level (to a maximum effective spell level of 9th at kineticist level 18th)"

That's true...... I retract my statement. Also I'll be playtesting this next Saturday, so I'll check it out then.

>I don't really agree; it's a strong potential risk if your patron has reasons for wanting to keep you, and free resurrections are imho very good for the game. I can see it causing problems potentially, though. I'll alter it to halve the cost and count as the body instead.

I should have been more specific, I wasn't concerned about the Avowed, I was more concerned with allies under the effect of the Fiend pacts "Temptation" ability.

Fair enough.

>That's true...... I retract my statement. Also I'll be playtesting this next Saturday, so I'll check it out then.

>I was more concerned with allies under the effect of the Fiend pacts "Temptation" ability.

Even so, that's still just "you can reroll your character a bit faster and get back to the game without losing your plotline." You'd still get hit with a negative level off raise dead, etc. Even so, I'm cutting the power of that effect a bit.

Give it a bit, I need to think up a replacement for Body of the Fiend, and then I'll upload a new version.

Dervish was mostly a formula of:

>Coyōtl

>Not truly a kitsune, but a closely related species, the coyōtl share their eastern cousin’s affinity for trickery and manipulation. Like kitsune, they are master shapeshifters, but their carrion-heavy diet and heavy spiritualism has led many to believe—including the majority of coyōtl themselves—that they possess power over life and death. And yet, in spite of this burden, they live life one day at a time, cheerful and impulsive, fast-talking their way out of any trouble they find themselves in.

>+2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma, –2 Strength: Coyōtl are excellent at reading and exploiting people, but find brute strength unappealing. This racial trait replaces the normal kitsune’s racial ability modifiers.

>Liminal Mediator (Ex/Sp): Coyōtl add +1 to the DC of any saving throws against death effects that they use. Whenever a coyōtl uses an ability that would heal a creature by a number expressed in dice, they heal an additional 1 hit point per die of healing. Finally, coyōtl can use bleed and stabilize as spell-like abilities once per round as a free action (caster level equals the coyōtl’s character level). This racial trait replaces kitsune magic.

>Trickster (Ex): Coyōtl gain a +2 racial bonus on Bluff checks. This racial trait replaces agile.

Coyōtl are made to be Wis/Cha caster clerics.

Would you take a coyōtl cleric as your waifu/husbando/sister/cohort/PC?

Hey /pfg/, can we talk about occultists? I need advice.

I've been looking at the class, and it seems like they can fill almost any role in a party (those being the classic Fighter, Thief, Mage, Cleric roles). Are there any that they're particularly bad at? And what implement schools are best for each role? I've been thinking about a character concept for the past couple days, but being flush with options combined with not knowing what roles need filling means I've gone nowhere.

I'm not 100% sure on the second part, but basically:
queen beryl, backed by this insane powerlevel bitch named metalia, lead the citizens of the earth in revolt against the moon kingdom.
Everyone died.
No, like. *everyone* died. There's a senshi who uses a weapon called the silence glaive. She uses it, after all of the pre-historic (silver millenium) senshi, the prince, and the queen, have all been killed, along with the rest of the kingdom, to completely erase there having been a kingdom at all. It's just that powerful.
Shitton of time later, pluto (the time traveller) shows up, along with all the other reincarnated royalty (except the queen, IIRC, who sacrificed her life in a ritual so that people would reincarnate)
Events of series happen, yadda yadda.
Now. There's three important facts here, and most of it is implied or maybe wrong.

A. There's a new kindgom that Serenity rules over in the future, called crystal tokyo. Everyone there is immmortal.
B. Sailor pluto is OLD AS HELL and has been interacting with the human race via time-travel since forever
C. Sailor moons daughter, Chibiusa, is literally time traveling back from a paradise to be in our time, alongside her own teenage mother.

Basically, X years in the future, pluto reveals that there is a fuck-huge meteor heading for earth. It will slowly pass by, but it will kill 100% of the planet, slowly and awfully due to the changes it makes. Pluto has been manipulating history so that one day, sailor moon can use her completely absurd powerlevels to actually pull the meteor in *closer* so it passes by much quicker, but kills 98 (or 99.8)% of the planets population instead of 100, doing so much faster.
Crystal tokyo is founded with the remaining people alive, and granted, this is from someone else telling me Chibiusa comes back because her future mom is fucking depressed for killing everone, and she's perma-young because her mom wants her to be.
>>

For filling in general character roles?

An Occultist with Transmutation and Abjuration as his first two implements can get good at fighting real quick, and they have nice utility powers.

An Occultist with Divination, Illusion, and Enchantment as his first three implements is going to rock hard at an investigative game, and be a great party face.

An Occultist with the Conjuration and Necromancy schools will have ALL of the minions. All of them. Additionally, pick up Evocation for blasting potential.

Really, your choice of your first three implements is going to decide how you play.

Right off the bat I'm seeing you jump into myth and legend in Paragraph 3 without actually telling us you're talking about myth and legend. While I could tell what you were doing, I won't hold it against someone who could not.

>>
>>49616117

1) The GM might have had some threshold of "Whoa man, this is a wall of text" that you tripped with your own app.

He asked me to expand the application and add worldbuilding details

2) 2hu's app, while shorter, ties in to something else another player already made. It's linked up. Not like Golarion amirite?

So was mine, it was in a paragraph I appended to the end but forgot to copy before I deleted the post. It talked about the tense relations between all the neighboring kingdoms, and this one's slow decline.

3) 2hu's app comes with, like, plot hooks and shit, mysteries the character needs to solve.

I also had this paragraph, not included in the image:

Despite the Empire's many challenges, it is not without hope. Her resources are vast, and her population is the largest in the known world. The new Emperor has surrounded himself with the finest minds in the Empire, as well as some peculiar foreigners, and intends to reinvigorate his dying kingdom. Xiajen must adapt or perish - the world is getting smaller, and the scent of weakness grows more foul over his domain with every passing generation. Reforms must be made, alliances brokered, and threats both within and without neutralized. In all of these tasks, the Emperor will find Jesi's skillset invaluable.

>>49616163
he asked for exactly this kind of detail, that's why it's in there. Here are his exact words:

Your character seems eminently acceptable but entirely uninspiring. Adding your character to the world would not add any new paradigms or interesting details. No plots come to mind for things your character could hope for, or things you have that could be threatened.
If I had an AP, and needed more people to go through it, sure, but here where I'm making things up on the fly, two primary traits I need are "Adds to the world.", "Inspires me to make plotlines". Your character is well designed to fit in anywhere, which is a minus in this case.

>>49616216
Your character didn't inspire him. That's it. Without knowing the person, it's hard to know if you're going to hit the mark, if that's the criterion. Your views on what it interesting just didn't line up.
>>
>>49615986
I was thinking Transmutation, Abjuration, and Necromancy - fighty with a side of minions and skills. Probably pick up Divination next, since Conjuration didn't really seem all that good.
>>
>>49616053
To be fair that first guy got in first and the bar was set progressively higher for subsequent applicants. The GM even said, "First come, first serve." So by the time you made your application I think the bar was too high for most people to be able to make it in.

That said, I feel that the issue with your writing is that you assume a little much on the part of the reader (you're shotgunning foreign names of individuals and locations which are are hard to follow) and your language was a way too flowery.

For example, "Because of the first woman, all nations of men which cover the world came into begin. The world and all its histories, conquests and artforms therefore have all sprung from the beauty of women, and continue to do so."

That's just incredibly awkward. Therefore? "All nations of men which cover the world" - that's a mouthful and would have helped if you had put the word "the" in there.

Your text got overly flowery in a way that made what you were writing harder to understand. Now, some people will say, "Shorter is always better." But I don't think that's necessarily the case.

Being concise can be problematic in its own way when you cut stuff too far to the point that nobody cares. Clarity is the most important thing in writing.

If something is too long and convoluted for people to understand, or so long their eyes glaze over you've failed. Likewise if it's too short to get them to care or to get your point across, you've failed.

So using flowery and descriptive text can be okay, but only as long as you do so in a manner that keeps your writing clear and on point and doesn't feel like you're just tossing out words for the sake of tossing them out.

This is what I would recommend working on - practice writing out descriptions but doing so in a way that keeps things simple and on point.

If you have any other questions just ask. I'm a high school English teacher so I get to help people with their writing quite a bit.
>>

He said that back in the threads when he was announcing the campaign - he was looking for 4 people, first come first serve. The GM got most all of the people he wanted fairly quickly but some troll who got rejected for his 3 sentence application kept spamming several more threads advertising the campaign so more people would get rejected like he did.

The GM was willing to give people a chance to fill a 5th slot if the character concept and world building was good enough to get him inspired. I think he probably should have just said, "No more," instead of giving people a chance and then crushing their dreams when they couldn't perform.

No problem. The one other issue is that I think your nation-state just didn't really bring anything. There was already a China/Japan nation, so your wanting to introduce another one country that was so similar just didn't feel inspiring to the GM. And to be honest, I can't really blame him for that.

Perhaps if you had based your kingdom off of India or Cambodia or Persia or even the Aztecs or Inuit or Iroquois the GM might have been more receptive. But you were kind of giving him something he already had.

Overall though I thought your writing is fairly good. You just needed to have spent another 10 minutes or so editing it. One trick I've found is to read what your write out loud, one word at a time. Yes, you feel like an absolute tool doing it, but it's a great way to notice if you've skipped a word or if you wrote something that sounded good in your head but sounds awkward when read out lout.

Anyway, don't get discouraged. I thought your writing was definitely worth a solid B, it's just the GM was looking for an A+. Stick with it, keep practicing and you'll definitely get better anon.

Thanks. I uploaded a fixed version just now.

>This rapidly outpaces other "AoE" options in terms of damage. Maybe make it do 1/2 damage on hits after the first?
I'm not actually sure it does; do note that once you're 3 steps into the "AoE" ones, the damage they deal doubles. This one doesn't get that except for one target.

>I love the cylinder heights! For when you really want to tell the flier to fuck off.
I really enjoyed getting to write a log scale AoE

So only a few classes get pounce:

Barbarian at level 10
Monk gets a sorta-pounce at level ?
Beastmorph alchemist gets one at level 10.

Magus gets to cast bladed dash as part of a full attack really early.

Anything else I'm missing?

>The one other issue is that I think your nation-state just didn't really bring anything. There was already a China/Japan nation, so your wanting to introduce another one country that was so similar just didn't feel inspiring to the GM. And to be honest, I can't really blame him for that.

I find this ironic, since he specifically called out the nation as being too big and different as a reason for rejecting it. His own words:

So, what I'm left with is "I'd have to fit in ANOTHER huge empire with vast clout, right next to the kitsunes, with lore that was written too unclearly for me to easily parse other than 'There's a special training temple for Courtesans, and two legends'."

I want concepts that inspire me to create an adventure for you, that provide things for me to interact with, that build the world.

>>49616625
Lets be fair to Paizo, some of their archetypes lets you hybridize classes into cool concepts.

You want to be a Big Guy? Mutation Warrior Fighter

Cleric is a decent vanilla healslut, but healing in PF is boring after a few levels when the party have their own means of mitigating or recovering damage.

>>49616660
No tier 1-2 either. It's tier 3 on one side, tier 4 or lower on the other. I figure that's the most balanced way to do gestalt.
>>
>>49616614
Yes. He wanted you to write stuff to inspire him. What you wrote didn't inspire him because it's basically the same thing another dude had already given him. What you gave him was a huge Asian kingdom modeled after China right next to the other huge Asian kingdom modeled after China.

That was already bad enough, but worse your writing was a little muddled and made it hard for him to get a clear mental image of your kingdom. So it didn't leave a strong impression to begin with, and what little impression he got was, "It's basically like that other kingdom that already exists."

If your writing had been more clear maybe he would have accepted your application. If you had designed a unique kingdom rather than one that was basically like a kingdom that was already, you might have gotten in.

But that was two strikes against you, and he had already rejected your first application. Just accept that it happened, move on, and try to work on fixing your writing up a bit. It's just one stupid game, and honestly you're probably better off not playing with 2hu anyway.

Will there be some way to enlarge the lines? Thin pen trace on a map is sad.

Other things that can be good from high selections:

>Ability to bypass/bust through ray shields and the like

>Ways to deal with "lol combat reflexes + smash from the air"

>longer ranged versions of aether circus; I can't even imagine how you're supposed to get in a situation where you'll be able to target 32 or 64 targets within a 30' radius and still be alive in the first place to TAKE the turn that lets you do this.

>Aether Rounds specify ammunition; any chance you could toss in 'or charges' in there, to allow soul lasers or something? Also I think the potential to instead add shapes to ranged weapons could be delicious

>Dragon Teeth had nothing to do with tank traps my disappointment knows no bounds

Airspace Control reminds me of biscuit hammer near the end... That said, it also makes me think about geomancers; something I've for a long time found sorely lacking from a system that supposedly has shit like druids. Since there's been a few requests about adding range or area or combining shapes, perhaps one method to achieve this could be to have an ability that lets you spread or shape the various pulse shapes from or in conjunction with those control-zone abilities. Could just be shifting origin point at lower levels though.

All the "aura" type classes are always paladin party buffs or intimidate crap and the terrain control purely vancian spells; between elemental pacts and esoteric "force self on reality" pacts, terrain distortion and the like could find a comfy place here.

I looked it over, made a character, played a couple games- there's almost no choice when it comes to building a character. There are maybe 10-15 decisions you can make over the course of creating a level 10 character, and most of them will just be between two options.
>>
>>49616755
The next character I hope to play is the gestalt consciousness of an ancient magic bastard sword forged for a vengeful queen in forgotten days. It was so closely tied to her that when she died, her soul entered the sword and possessed the next person to find it. That person even slowly turned into a clone of the queen as her personality overwrote and merged with theirs.

Eventually, the sword passed through so many hands and absorbed so many souls that she developed her own consciousness, taking on traits of all of her previous wielders. This saw her classified as a "black blade" and eventually put under lock and key.

Then some huckster somehow stole her and sold her off as a novelty item to an unsuspecting layabout who'd briefly studied magic and collected replica swords, but never really had a passion for true swordplay... or much of anything.

Her latest host has proven to, so far, assimilate most quickly, and has already in fact become a physical replica of the sword's idealized self - contradictory aspects of his personality have mostly been erased, and complementary aspects have been absorbed. Luckily, the biggest thing lost was his depression.

Now, the ancient blade "Warmaiden" lives again, and is sure to find herself on another adventure.

>>49617165
Level 1, choose which archetype you want to play for that class. levels 2-10 choose a class to level up as. Levels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 choose a feat. That's only 15 decisions for pathfinder for a level 10 character.
>>
Well /pfg/, I don't know if any of you know this problem but for some reason one of my newer players is obsessed with Communism. As in, every time she plays a character the character's goal is to disassemble the monarchy and establish equality among the classes. It was cute the first time she played a character who wanted nothing more than the party to at least be equal, but it's getting really annoying now. I've tried speaking to her about it and she says the ideology is just fundamentally apart of how she does things in life.
>>
>>49617140
Realtalk? Because moving to 5e, where there's twelve classes with an average of 2.5 archetypes each, means that their last ten years of exhaustive system learning becomes useless again. They've sunk so much time into memorizing which options are traps, which are fun, what class goes where on the tier list, etc, that moving to a new game represents the loss of MONTHS, if not YEARS, of man hours, and not everyone's willing to sacrifice that.

Also, 5e's a way better balanced game, but it's simpler as a whole, with no rules for a lot of things Pathfinder's codified (this can be either good or bad, depending on your DM), and new options are coming out once a YEAR instead of once a MONTH.

>>49617210
>Choose class
>choose archetype
>maybe choose additional archetypes because archetype stacking is a thing
>decide what weapons you'll probably specialize in if you're a physical fighter fighter (a choice that's technically available in 5e but since there are no requisites to use weapons effectively there's never any reason to use anything but the most effective statline)
>every other class level usually has additional class-based choices to make
>Technically an option in 5e as well, but with a greater range of classes and synergies, multi-classing and one-level dipping is a significantly more viable option in Pathfinder.

So I think pathfinder still has more options overall but you did get me thinking- the bigger problem is simply a lack of differentiated builds. There are fewer different things you can actually make a character do in 5e. You pick a class, and you're going to play the same as anyone else who picks that class.

I don't wanna be that guy, but could I get some help here?

Any other sources, rules and guidelines for running organizations and settlements?
>>
>>49617406
Let's not forget that feats are an 'optional rule' removing yet another area of character customization.

PF characters can pick skill point placement (at each level instead of one and done like 5e), PF allows WAY greater freedom on magical item procurement (rather the mother may I of magic items with 5e), more options at each level in which a choice is allowed, and an overall greater ability to define their character mechanically.

Personally, there's not a reason to play a class in 5e more than once or twice, since there's no way to vary it, as opposed to even with 1p options where I could play like 10 different alchemist and have a different set of interesting mechanics with each one.

5e is roleplaying light, that's something it prides itself on, and that's not something that appeals to me.

New to Pathfinder so I haven't read a lot. But will the system allow me to play a big red Oni with a club?

>>
>>49617456
You misunderstand what I'm pointing out. I'm not saying there are more things to choose from (though there are) but that the structure of the game is such that you have more and more meaningful choices. Even disregarding everything but the core book Pathfinder still has more choices with more options each than 5e.

And even if the two games were exactly mechanically similar, but 5e just had more expansions, those expansions would STILL make pathfinder the better game. That's not a technicality, having more options is just better.

This will basically allow you to play what is essentially a diet oni, more in line with the power of regular player characters.

Another possibility, if your GM allows third party material, is to use the half-giant race: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/races/half-giant

It allows you to count as one size larger for many purposes, including the wielding of weapons.

If you want to smash, I highly recommend looking into the barbarian or fighter.

Best of luck!

Also, can't forget Bladed Dash is literally just anime going so fast you leave afterimages and then hitting your enemy with a combo.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here, as I like both systems: If we examine just the PHB of 5e and the relevant section of PF's core book (meaning no magic items and such), PF has more options - but how many of those options are traps, and how many are 'Improved/Greater' version of whatever? 5th may have fewer options overall, but it has more options that will actually see regular use. It's also slightly better balanced - not as balanced as 4e, but at least it doesn't really fall apart until about level 15. PF has some really big balance issues right out of the gate.

They're both fine systems, but they're good for different reasons. PF takes a lot more massaging to get right.
>>
>>49617709

>PF allows WAY greater freedom on magical item procurement
I find the opposite to be true. Pathfinder math assumes a pretty specific suite of items for half your slots, and most of the "good" items for the rest of the slots are solved, so most characters will have pretty similar item builds. 5e's magic items are literally just for fun, so cooler shit tends to show up, in my games at least.

Yes. The only difference is that one does shield off turn for better defense, the other dumps damage dice for burts for better offense.

Otherwise, they play effectively the same. Both of them are going to attack every turn, because no other action they have is worth it.

Land druid may as well not exist.

For (crb mostly, non twinked) fighters? Sure. But nobody should play fighters.

For everybody else? When classes like Alchemist, Inquisitor, Bard, Magus, Hunter (just to name the most obvious/straightforward ones, but there are also terrific Slayer/Barbarian/Bloodrager/Paladin/etc.) exist, you got a huge amount of choice about how you want to play the game and what you can do turn to turn. Few games do that part better (and everybody seems to hate one 4e for it).

You know the same logic apply to your example. All of the choice for those classes boil down to full attack.

Alchemist:
FULL ATTACK (only choice you make is whether to do it with bomb or natural attack)

Magus:
FULL ATTACK

Inquisitor:
FULL ATTACK

Hunter:
FULL ATTACK

Bard:
FULL ATTACK

Now to figure out the booze.
>>
>>49619146
All of those DO something aside from full-attacking. The alchemist even if he is not a bomb-chemist has the option of utility bombs and extracts.

The magus can decide between trying to nova, buff everyone, buff himself, or doing something different entirely.

The Inquisitor can cast shit like Castigate and Hold Person (right? I'm not good with Inquisitors).

The Hunter gets to actually manage two combatants instead of one, and take advantage of his animal companions abilities, as well as having spells to fall back on (in fact, he can rely on his animal companion to shore up for the turns he casts spells).

The Bard is using some form of performance, and can also buff everyone/cast some offensive spells instead of going all in.

The EK has to choose between casting a (most often shitty) spell and making a full attack, and the BM's effects are minor at best and he's always best off bursting with it (maybe with the exception of saving a few for riposting)
>>
>>49619201
99% of every class feature boils down to you being able to make your full attack better
>>
>>49619158

The booze holds no mechanical benefits, the character just has a huge jug of sake they like to drink from.
>>
So what is 3.5 or 3.PF's version of 5E's Pact of the Blade Warlock?

I know 3.5 has Eldritch Glaive but I'm wondering if there's something with a bit more flavour where I can conjure up a weapon of any form instead of a Glaive.
>>
>>49619201
> The alchemist even if he is not a bomb-chemist has the option of utility bombs and extracts.
Not worth action

> The magus can decide between trying to nova, buff everyone, buff himself, or doing something different entirely.
That is still in his full attack

> The Inquisitor can cast shit like Castigate and Hold Person (right? I'm not good with Inquisitors).
Inquisitor has low save DC. Better just to full-attack or be a Wizard.

> The Hunter gets to actually manage two combatants instead of one.
Both are only useful for full-attack

> The Bard is using some form of performance
As a free action, which you full attack right after

Seriously though, 5e's EK is comparable to Alchemist. If your logic doesn't allow EK to use his turn for Fireball (vs bomb) and cast buff (vs extracts), then those things shouldn't apply to Alchemist.
>>

>That is still in his full attack

Yes, that's why I've said
>All of those DO something aside from full-attacking.

>Inquisitor has low save DC.
Sanctified slayer.

>Seriously though, 5e's EK is comparable to Alchemist. If your logic doesn't allow EK to use his turn for Fireball (vs bomb) and cast buff (vs extracts), then those things shouldn't apply to Alchemist.

5e's EK can use a level 3 fireball at 13. Twice/day. It's a waste of a fucking action when he could instead turn someone into a pincushion or go ham with GWM. It has a handful of worthwhile self-buffs, and since he's only allowed to pick like 4 spells that aren't abjuration/conjuration in total, there's not much variety to be gained there.

To say nothing about out of combat versatility, or the ability to hand extracts to allies.

It's comparable only in the sense that it could be considered a pared down version, much like the rest of 5e.
>>
>>49618540

>>
>>49619419
You're thinking like a PFaggot. 5e gives you almost total freedom to do what you want. Also, there is no "Full attack", you can attack, then move, then attack, then move if you so desire.

>>
>>49619511
>Also, there is no "Full attack", you can attack, then move, then attack, then move if you so desire.

Attacking is the ONLY thing 80% of the characters in 5e can do on account that most of them have rarely any good options otherwise.

I'd rather power attack, intimidate, AoO and intimidating display after a killing blow.
At least it feels like I have more options at play.
>>
>>49619753
>You can.
With an Acrobatics check that is more RNG than bonus to the point where a crippled Wizard could make it while a trained acrobat could fail, which is something that will reliably piss me off because of how fucking STUPID you would have to be to not do anything about this problem after the exact same problem made attribute checks a crapshoot in TWO straight editions of D&D.
>In PF?
The exact same thing, except with far more bonus-dependent Acrobatics checks and PF's garbage full attack mechanics make it a moot point.

5E is also much, much worse at doing this kind of thing than systems like Savage Worlds or Mutants & Masterminds are.

>>
>>49619849
>I never understood how the people here can just go "I attack. 19. hit. I attack"
