Eh. I can see it. But redeemable since literally everyone else is also ThatGuy to some extent.
Deathstroke for being an obnoxious asshole
El Diablo for being pacifist until halfway through the game when he flips and almost kills his team be accident.
Boomerang Dude for being useless in gun fights and sneaking away to steal cash
Crocodile dude for putting 3 (or non-D&D equivalent) in charisma.
And Harley Quinn is a That Guy for being an annoying jackass and trying to escape a mission to leave everyone else to their fates.
>>

That Guy was clearly the writer and/or Director

Wouldn't it be "That Person" or "That It"? Guy implies gender when it should transcend.

Not that there aren't numerous other examples of implication not equating to direct translation.

Suicide Squad was a fun movie. I don't get why people hated it

It could have been so much better. So disappointment mainly.

Like Star Wars VII, you can be mediocre but decent and get hated because expectations are so high.
>>
>>49540396
Harley is the mistreated butt of jokes in the cartoon.

Her anime equivalent is Excel from Excel Saga.
>>
>>49540410
Star Wars VII was literally a rehash of the original Star Wars with different characters.
>>
>>49540437
Also Empire.

But that doesn't make it terrible. Just mediocre.

It was a retread. It disappointed, but wasn't cringeworthy like the prequels.

That being said, people raged at it for doing very little new and being way to damn vague with so many things.
>>
>>49540501
It was also the three original movies mashed into one. Mainly it was a rehash of Episode IV but there were elements of V and VI. The characters were pretty bland but they had their moments, though I think Finn was better than Rey.

It was also very unoriginal in its story. It just took what was considered a safe approach and never strayed from what the writers/director knew would work with the fans of star wars.

Harley Quinn's player would be like that player you knew back in the day who made a really good and compelling character who had a complete story arc and a personality, but who kept dragging the character back for each new game and playing it more and more, and the character changed over time and became nothing but a pathetic wish-fulfillment Hot Topic quirky so randumb xD piece of shit that the player still drags around to every single game, even games where the character is inappropriate for the tone or power level.

>Listening to this anon's headcanon.
Don't be stupid.
>>
>>49540712
I think you're misunderstanding me.

I am absolutely not invested at all in what is or isn't considered canon, or who considers what canon. I just thought the reaction was hilarious. It's the same feeling I got when Naruto ended and four of the main characters paired off, and people were bitching and crying about who ended up marrying who. I don't watch Naruto, so I'm not invested in what happened, I just loved to watch the reaction.

And what is or isn't canon is what you decide, especially if you're running a tabletop Star Wars game. For example, the last one I ran took place 200+ years after any canon material, which allowed me to do whatever the fuck I wanted. For example, since I don't like the Yuuzhan Vong and don't think they fit into Star Wars's setting, I wrote them out entirely.

I played in an evil campaign that I thought would be Snidely Whiplash type evil, but nearly everyone else brought dumb edgy shit. I was so disappointed.

I ended up feeding them to Not!Cthulu before going back to trying to kidnap a child detective and his canary sidekick.
>>
I remember when I was 10 years old and showed interest in D&D, my parents sent me to a "D&D camp" for the holidays (they were that kind of parents). It was basically just a bunch of zipfaced nerds who decided to found a summer camp on a shoestring budget where they take like 30 kids and run adventures to them instead of having any actual camp activities for 6 days. I have no idea if that shit was even legal.

Anyway, after 5 days of dungeon crawling, for the last day they decided to give us a special twist: a modern superhero game, and not only that, but we got to play as villains. Our job was to steal a nuclear warhead for literally shit and giggles, our evil boss supervillain wanted to use it to "play a prank on the president".

It was retarded but as an impressionable kid I just remember being deeply moved by the revelation that there was more to RPGs than fantasy dungeon crawling. Like, I had an illuminating experience there.
>>
>>49549983
When has summer camp ever failed to leave a lasting impression on kids lucky enough to go? It's actually kind of amazing how many stories begin with something that happened at camp.
>>
>>49540933
Only good evil campaign I've been in was where we weren't planning on it being evil, we just kept getting involved in a bunch of underhanded shady shit to get money/power.

It wasn't until we declined to fight some killer fungus on the grounds of "It's not fun if it doesn't scream" that we realized we were an evil party and ran with it.
>>
>>49549906
It should be mandatory in a evil campaigns for each player to have a stated general motivation and goal.

Evil people using various techniques to achieve their aims is fun regardless of what spectrum of evil you're at.
People that can't write anything down other than "have nothin' personnel against kids" should have to go back and try again, because they're the types that beg the GM for rails to go down, then claim their entire evil will be to kick a few puppies along the way.

Even a painfully edgy player is tolerable if they're creatively paving a way for their personal goals.
>>
>>49546657
Yeah.

Why was it that Finn felt nothing but humor in murdering the soldiers and people he had grown up and trained alongside of? He had problems shooting unarmed civilians but no issue at all with murdering his buddies whom he presumably spent a lot of time growing up with?

They should have had one moment where Finn was getting ready to shoot and then stopped. "I can't do this, I know that guy. I owe him ten credits."

And then of course he ends up having to do it anyway and gets over it. Just a 15 to 30 second scene. It would have really helped to humanize him and make him come off as more human and less of a weird sociopath.
>>
>>49550053
>When has summer camp ever failed to leave a lasting impression on kids lucky enough to go?

I went to a horseback riding camp when I was 8. Me and some of the other kids were hanging out together near the horses and one of the camp counselors brought the horse over. It spooked and kicked the kid I was talking with in the head. He died instantly.

I think you're right to a degree, but having some semblance of thematic agreement in a party is important. Unless it's played for laughs (which really only works as a one-off gag) having an edgy DMC Dante in a party of Skeletors or vice versa is just asking for trouble because the ways those characters interact with the world is so different.

Of course, that means I was probably the one in the wrong since my character was so different from the others. I just loved Baron Von Boo and his Halloween-themed evil too much to be reasonable.

And Star Wars' greatest fans have now ruined the franchise forever. With "The Force Awakens" being merely mediocre, there are now more bad films in the franchise than good ones. The only thing that might stand a fighting chance of reversing this trend is episode 8 and 9 both being awesome. Breaking even is the best case scenario for Star Wars now.
>>

The whole entire point in canon and out of stormtroopers is that they are dehumanized and dehumanizing. They are supposed to be easy to shoot at and disposable.

Evil had to be retarded in Star Wars because Lucas made a point of not allowing it to win. We went town to town breaking into stores in the dead of the night and selling their shit to fences.

Best part? We didn't decide it was an evil campaign. Hell, none of us were even rogues. We were all supposed to be mercenaries and just all rolled evil/neutral characters and wanted to get money to buy better stuff. Being thieves and bandits was so much more lucrative that we said fuck mercenary work.

Then again, our DM didn't really give a shit about being a DM and thought we should write our own stories.

What's cool is that the rest of the players are all running anti-establishments terrorist types, so we're basically playing two sides of the coin with interchanging scenes, and the GM's put some pretty awesome attention into how our actions interact with each other even though (at this point in the story) we've never even actually TALKED face to face. We're running two slightly overlapping, conflicting investigations of the same murder mystery - them by running about on the ground, and me by hacking into the environment around them, working within the system and using a small fleet of rotorcopters.

I'm also begrudgingly cooperating with an AI who has found a way of using a scrapped prototype government system meant to bypass all security measures in computerized systems by directly manipulating electrons via quantum entanglement in order to hack the laws of physics. Shit's cash.

Evil campaigns which don't start off as evil campaigns are the best.

>Players are all playing as fucking murderhobos
>Seriously, they solve every problem with murder
>Even problems clearly set up to be solved with diplomacy or guile get stabbed in the face
>Decide to roll with it
>Let them set up a giant, "awesome" fortress full of their followers
>Final session in that setting
>Hand the Paladin a new character sheet
>"You've been a Blackguard this entire time. Your character is just insane and thinks he's a Paladin
>Other players are going WTF
>Explain that they've been murdering their way to power and they're the BBEGs of the setting
>Explain that their fortress is under assault by the forces of Good
>They decide to roll with it and they wind up killing the forces of Good
>MFW they ask to start a campaign with new characters setting out to kill their old characters
>>
>>49554542
>rotorcopters
herpity derp derp, I meant quadcopters. Flying drones. It's a surveillance obsessed fascist government so of course the sky would be swarming with them and the NSA equivalent guys would have access. They're unarmed (there are drones with missiles, but I can't just access them willy nilly, I need authorization and a cause), though, so my character usually has to rely on sneaking them into place or just keeping in radio contact with agents on the ground.

Basically, I'm playing the guy who, in video games, would be talking to you over the radio telling you the mission objectives. And it's surprisingly engaging.

>>

He is a weird sociopath though, they all are. It just took participating in a massacre to make him realise he was raised on the bad guy team.
>>
>>49554482
Not him but this is making me curious about where my first character's inspiration came from. He was a dwarf gunslinger who was stoic and not all that funny despite the GM saying he was Varric from Dragon Age every 2 minutes. He also wore heavy armor so he wasn't the 'agile quick-witted cowboy' of western fame.

First character I ever roleplayed as in general was some old ass man with a sword, a cape, and heavy armor. He adopted a kid from the not!viking race and drove around in a carriage doing good deeds and shit. What's that sound like to you guys besides vaguely generic shit?

Also I agree with ya mate, there's nothing wrong with taking inspiration from stuff you enjoy reading/watching and turning it into a character you have fun playing. Hell, those kids will probably all grow up to be well-adjusted roleplayers or /tg/ shitposters one day.

Lone Wolf and Cub
>>
>>49558646
See, I'd go with Clint Eastwood but I associate him with being the guile hero of the west, if that makes sense. He always plays dudes who are good gunslingers but they solve their problems in other ways too. This dorf just shot things and let others be smart. Maybe your knowledge of westerns is better than mine but I'd go with John Wayne if we're talking about cowboys.

As for Lone Wolf and Cub, holy shit never thought about that. I wish I'd been cool enough to pull that off at 12 years old.
>>
>>49558726
>He always plays dudes who are good gunslingers but they solve their problems in other ways too.

Yeah, he doesn't just shoot people. He also shoots animals, and even inanimate objects! Sometimes he even THREATENS to shoot people!
>>
>>49553848
Cool character concept, though.
>>
>>49554482
My first character was a mundane farmer girl who became a thief (but never become very good at thiefing, except hiding).
Still, she'd do her best to maintain appearance. Wear heavy cloaks, sick daggers. Tell random thief-like-jokes when given the chance.

It has none of the highs, and already has some pretty bad lows. It may, on average, have better overall content right now, but that's because of the plethora of feces from which one can find diamonds in the old EU.

Zahn may well put out the first truly great book, we'll see.

In the context of the film, Deadshot was That Guy.

"OK, we're playing a team of bad guys..."
"Nah man, I'm a conflicted good guy just coin it for may daughter, I wanna save the world and sheeeit."

Harley was just a guy who can't keep his accents straight playing lolrandum.
>>
>>49554581
John Wick? Is that you?
>>
>>49541211
By the very definition of the term, someone is only "that guy" if they stand out (in a negative way) and ruin everyone else's fun. Since they were all like that and no character seemed annoyed at anything other than being stuck in that situation, none of them would qualify as "that guy."

That said, take pretty much any of them and put them into a regular game and they probably would qualify.

>>49540114
Honestly I'd say she's borderline at best, even in that movie. She's "quirky xD" but there's a method to it and she actually seemed relatively helpful.

Granted, 99.999% of any characters made to imitate her would probably qualify as that guy/girl material, but that's because that sort of character is really hard to pull off right when you don't know what will happen until it happens.
>>
>>49540374
The action scenes were okay, but not great, they spent way the fuck too much time on backstory and showing us "the Joker is coming," and there were some wierd-ass plotholes (why did samurai girl wander into the bar with the criminals? Why did Flagg care about the fact that cholo fuego was going to get exploded in the end when he knew his non-criminal men would die setting the blast off? Why did Flagg shrug off Waller shooting several people in cold blood? etc).

I'm sure other people have different takes on it, but that's the stuff that bothered me.

That said, I felt Deadshot + Harley basically made the movie work.

Finn Will be bloodborneman
>>

Or you can call the designated person 'Them!'
Named after the giant ant movie, which is appropriate since these people deserve the same treatment as giant man-eating ants.

Will Smith is the movie's only redeeming point.

And I don't mean Deadshot, the character. I mean Will Smith, the actor. Say what you may, guy's got charisma and he knows how to take what he's given (bland though it might be) and make it shine.
>>
>>49560033
He had that backstory in the comics, but the difference was that he was also still a douchebag and a criminal that wasn't apologetic for it.

Animated Harley will always be best Harley.

Intelligent but easily manipulated by the Joker. Hell she managed to catch Batman and would have been able to kill him if she hadn't wanted to show it off to the Joker. Her Stockholm/beaten wife syndrome was her biggest flaw and it made you want her to be redeemed and finally stand on her own two feet. Her hijinks with Ivy were great and to this day my favorite episode is where Harley is released from Arkham only for a bad day to send her back as it shows she isn't a bad person, just a little ditsy at times and unlucky.

These new iterations of her painting her as a 'lol so randumb' character annoy the shit out of me.

I don't know if that's the general consensus. Everyone I know, am related to, or work with enjoyed it. I think most of the negative people you see online, are trying to score cool guy points.

Suicide squad blew all the good lines on the trailers. The Joker wasn't needed in the story, and the main bad guys being "gods" was silly. The team was made up of a few brawlers, and a sharp shooter. They should have fought something more grounded. I enjoyed some of it at least. If they learned from it, and tried a bit harder on a sequel, I'd watch it.

"It" implies (in English) that what you are referring to is an object, or more correctly, not a person. Therefore, it's insulting and dehumanizing to refer to a person as "it" in English.

"They" is acceptable but some grammarians don't like it in formal language.

"He" is also acceptable when referring to people of unknown or mixed genders. It's frowned on by people who get buttflustered about gender equality, but it was the "proper" way to refer to people in a formal sense.

Not as much as his successor character.

> Still tall, muscular and handsome
> But now he's stoic all day every day, unless get's coming up with as many stupid one-liners as he does the unlisted powers on his character sheet.
> Min-Maxed his power so that he can't even be crushed by giant diamond teeth.
> Gets turned into a child, instead of working out the session gimmick just punches the villain "because he was always a badass".
> If that's not bad enough, he managed to find the splatbook that lets him have the same time stop power as the BBEG, hand-waves it as "they have the same type of character build"

And he just keeps coming back stronger than ever, cause the GM likes this bullshit. That said, he fucking killed that charisma roll during that poker game session we had.
