Alright, so WFRP is percentile system. Roll a number of times equal to your attack score, every roll under your Ws is a hit. Roll for damage. Enemy can roll to dodge/parry. It just feels like a lot of unnecessary back and forth.

So the idea I'm tossing up with is both combatants roll Ws. Whoever rolls the highest while staying under their score wins. The tens digit is your margins of success, the ones digit is your damage.

That's the base of the idea so far. Shit I've been tossing around is;
1. Spending margins of success to change the hit location, going up and down 10 per margin.
2. Using the Attack stat to either make multiple attacks against different targets, or re-rolling your attack roll (either the tens or the ones dice or both)
3. You can still dodge, but you give up your opportunity to attack on your turn.

Still a work in progress, ideas and shit.

He plays Drachenfels?
>>
>>49398637
No, just a self absorbed idiot who tries to be badass but fails miserably all the time. They're different characters but he roleplays them all the same, often with the same goals. 'Ultimate power', whatever that's supposed to mean. Political? Magical?

Once I allowed him the opportunity to gain such power as he had found a wish granting djinn. Asked for ultimate power so it sent him to a planet sized, and unorganized, library where he could study for eternity. He was by himself and kept finding books such as the Altdorf Teacup Poodle's Fancier Guide to Better Breeding, or Tilean Cooking for the Unremarkable. He spent all that time alone and went slowly insane until he decided to wish himself back home. Too bad he didn't say WHEN, so he was dropped thirty years in the past. Got to see himself when he was a spoiled child in Estalia who pinched other kids for fun. Eventually he found himself picking up the djinn's lamp and crossed his own timeline, destroying his older self and stopping the wishes from happening.

We've bumped into the same djinn a couple times in different campaigns, we call him Omar Cheatyface.

>>
>>49399284
Not necessarily, there is just nothing stopping them from being huge sluts if they want to. They flaunt their wild hair, save horses by riding a Grail Knight, and nobody save the Fey Enchantress and the Lady herself can tell them otherwise.

There was even a part in Knight of the Realm where the Enchantress magically spied on a damsel and a Grail Knight going at it before gently reminding her that she had a job to do.

>>49399544

Is that Luthor Huss? Because comparing Luthor Huss to a generic Grail Knight isn't a fair comparison. Huss is a fucking boss.
>>
>>49399544
Yeah, but she was taken at such a young age that their family bond was basically nonexistent. Sir Reolus was awesome and so are Grail Knights. They earned their badassness. Warrior Priests are like a unit champion with one more wound and costs four times as much.

Now if anyone was dogshit it was the protagonist. I haven't hated a character so much that it made me stop reading a series until I read Knight Errant/of the Realm.

Warrior Priests are pretty cool. They're essentially just Empire Paladins.

There's a guy in the campaign who is based on the Warrior Priest from the trailer, but I doubt it's the same person as he went up against a Bloodthirster and was undoubtedly turned into a priestkabob.

Actually, yes. The spell in question specifies that they are not compelled to answer.

Additionally, the Lore of Death material also states that Undead and Demonic creatures do not have souls.

Food for thought.
>>
>>49398881
Leaving Bretonnia to languish was a mistake. They should have been paid more attention to, or squatted. No sense in leaving their surprisingly numerous fans crying when they're left behind. But they're not a mistake, just as much as the Sisters of 40k aren't a mistake. They're great ideas, but both are badly handled by corporations who don't give two shits about them.

>>49399323
Out of the frying pan, into the fire. Chaos won't invade anytime soon, but Orcs and Undead will. At least if I stay in Averland, I know I'll be with people who know how to deal with this shit. I'll find some cute waifu that has ties to old Sollenland, and I'll marry her and take back what is rightfully ours.
>>
>>49399818
>I'll marry her and take back what is rightfully ours.

Stay salty.
>>
>>49399818
The problem that Bretonnia had was that it wasn't Empire, Chaos (mostly Warriors), High Elves or Dwarfs. Everyone else got a bone thrown at them every once in a while while these four factions got all the attention. You can't make another faction popular if you don't give them any time in the spotlight.

Ogres was a mistake. They should have had a list like Kislev. A sorta army list but mostly used as mercenaries for other armies.

Where might one find a voicefag? I'm writing a WFRP campaign and I've been toying with the idea of my opener being narrated by someone with some experience in voice acting, even if it's just a hobby for them. Save it as an audio file and play it before the campaign begins.

I feel like the Tomb Kings going on their world conquest crusade would have been amazing. Just imagine Tilea and Estalia getting reinforced by the Empire and Bretonnia, and the whole weight of these nations getting forced into just slowing the march of the dead. Settra's advance is further slowed when the Lizardmen suddenly slam in from the west, the Skaven war among themselves and quietly support both sides as they try to figure out which side winning is best to their benefit, and Chaos streams from the north to try and ransack the Empire now that for once its gaze is turned southward.

They do use boats, though. Somewhat relevant to the rest of the thread, the Bretonnian navy is responsible for thwarting one of Settra's invasions of the rest of the world.

What's bad with original rules for you?
In what direction would you like to make changes?
Maybe you are trying to use them for their not intended purpose?
WFRP 2e is abstract system, that's not that bad.

I saw some rules for making combat deadlier by making nearly every hit count and maybe faster by it, if that's what you want I could try to translate it in spare time.

>>49397657
>I've enjoyed it. It's given a lot of fodder for a plot hook about a Witch Hunter catching a Priest of Morr.
Witch Hunter should not be able to lay a finger on Morr's priest unless he wants Black Guard to rape him dry.
But fanaticism, bloodlust and stupidity seems like witch hunters trademarks.

> In 1ed and 2ed you can make your own spells
1ed RoS had rules for it, 2ed didn't it only had ritual making rules and they were pretty vague
>>
>>49400103
Witch Hunters don't have nearly as much power as their 40k counterparts, and taking a man from another priesthood is probably a very good way to end your career, at the very least, unless that guy turns out to be a daemon for real.
>>
>>49400100
Ocean currents would make it more hassle than its worth, and boats are going to be significantly faster (especially since you can rely on undead rowers).

Also soaking in salt water would ruin all your bling and bandages.I don't think any tomb king would like that.
>>
>>49400103
>What's bad with original rules for you?

Essentially how slow it is. I know it's not a bad thing - it gives players time and opportunity to maneuver, get into place and generally realise that there is more to a fight than whacking at each other with sharp sticks.

My problem is, if you've got two Ws 30 guys whaling at each other, fights tend to be long drawn out affairs until someone fucks up. Fights against dangerous critters are suitably dangerous, but fights against mundanes tends to draw out. I'd just like a system that makes it simpler for the 1 v 1 and could also be used for mass combat.

>Witch Hunter should not be able to lay a finger on Morr's priest unless he wants Black Guard to rape him dry.

A good Witch Hunter, yeah. But if you get a crazy, they don't care why you're trucking with the dead, they just see necromancy.
>>
>>49400142
Hmm...so maybe not for travelling across the ocean, but park nearby, take off the bling and take a walk for a stealth assault?

Do Tomb King tactics take into account their undead nature?

>>49400140

>>
>>49400190

I think that they're all professionals, in varying degrees, otherwise you'd just be making your order look like incompetent jackasses for all the other temples to see and laugh at. Usually known as Player Characters.

>>
>>49400190

>tomb king black ops units running false flag operations to lure the empire into attacking sylvania because FUCK vamps
>>
>>49400201

Witch Hunter is a pretty broad term.

In big strokes it covers:

1. Crazy people just hunting down whoever.
2. People hired by nobles to act as hunters on their behalf.
3. People working on behalf of the church.
4. People working on behalf of the Empire.
5. Members of secret witch hunting orders.

Some of them do it for a living, some of them are just in it for one job.
>>
>>49400266

Settra invading the old world with the night of nehekara>>>>>>>>Archaon and his chaos hordes that outnumber the oldworld armies 10:1 being wanked so hard they can't possibly lose. Tomb kings are criminally underused in the setting

>>49400190
I always had this mental image of the tomb kings parking just beyond the horizon and marching their armies along the sea floor. The imperials/tileans/estalians have their artillery ready for the ships, completely unprepared for what's about to happen. Then boom, clouds of arrows of asaph shoot right out of the ocean and into the unsuspecting ranks. Just as this is happening the vanguard of the TOM kings rushes out onto the beach and starts slaughtering the panicked troops. Man i would love a setting like that

What did you think Dwarf architecture is made of? Dwarf Beard hair provides the strongest lattice support for building materials known to the world.

When under duress, Dwarfs can use their beard as make-shift flails with which to flagellate their enemies.

Dwarf beard scrub brushs are desired the world over, but using or owning one is a dire offense to dwarfen society.

In times of need, Dwarf beard hair treated with XXXXXX ale and will make a suitable replacement for steel wire.

Yes, yes, rarely. Wood Elves are elves who refused to abandon their colonies when the High Elves had to go back to Ulthuan to defend it from the Dark Elves. They were told they'd be on their own as everything and everyone was being pulled back to defend the homeland.

Finubar sent some diplomats to reopen talks with the Wood Elves, hopefully to heal the rift between the two peoples. The Wood Elves sent them home and said "don't let the forest eat you on the way out".

I think one of them got murdered by angry Bretonnian peasants who thought the Wood Elves were attacking.

if you've got two Ws 30 guys whaling at each other, fights tend to be long drawn out affairs until someone fucks up
You may use table similar to pic attached.
On X axis you have character skill.
On Y difficulty of check, going from up from extremely easy, very easy, easy, average, challenging, hard, very hard, nightmare, hellish, impossible.
Values in table shows number you have to roll under to succeed.
Or on Y you can use skill to beat.
So 31 WS guy striking on 31 WS guy have 50% chance to hit. And by general rule to beat someone with the same skill as character you have 50% chance of success.
Or hitting someone could by an average challenge needing roll of 50 or less at start and getting easier the better swordsman
For additional difficulty you can rule that any degree of success ads 1 to damage or for more danger +1 to roll, rolls over 10 are guaranteed Ulric's Fury.
In that variant wizards roll WP for purpose of extra damage or add their CN over required to damage.

I thought that lore of death was a phone call to afterlife where necromancer would just rip souls from afterlife and then ask question.
Unpleasant phone call is quite different from kidnapping.
Also for it to work, wasn't spell had to be cast in some time or soul would depart to Morr and become unavailable for contact
>>
>>49401180
>Also for it to work, wasn't spell had to be cast in some time or soul would depart to Morr and become unavailable for contact

There were two spells specifically that deal with that. One lets you talk and chat with the recently deceased, the other just lets you ask questions and get 'knocks' for answers.

The argument is generally that both Necromancy and Lore of Death are necromantic in nature, but the term Necromancy has different connotations in WFRP because of it's relationship with Dhar, corruption and generally dickery.

>bretcucks invading athel loren like it will matter.

>>
what about brets having a lot of land-warping spells?

say, as the Grail Knights charge, a white stone road appears before them, so they not just ignore terrain, they unmake it, so other knights can ignore that terrain too
if enemies step on those stones, they turn back into terrain again, something like that

or damsels being able to summon (temporary) towers and/or castle walls to protect infantry and funnel enemies into knights' charge path

or some virtue for a knight. cannot join units, rides a horse, but once per game can dismount, replacing his horse with a cool tower that he garrisons alone. as long as he's garrisoning the tower, he gains huge bonuses in combat, yadda-yadda-yadda.

so no matter what shithole the bretonnian army finds itself, its knights still fight among whitestone castles and tall towers.

Shattering Bolt
Bond spell (power 4)
If a Skybreker Knight has moved over a structure in this turn's movement phase, he may call cast this spell upon it. a bolt of lightning splits the sky, reducing the structure to rubble. on a successful cast, roll a die. on 3+ the structure (or a part of a larger structure) is destroyed.

DOTH THOU HAVE TURNIPS TO HARVEST KNAVE?
>>
>>49401497
>BUT GODDAMIT /TG/ CAN WE MAKE THIS WORK?

Hmm...you'd need some specially designed armour, a team to get the knight up to speed and maybe some sort of blessing from the lady to grant speed, strength and density.

Either turn the knight into a living battering ram, or play the whole 'Walls of Jericho' thing.
>>
>>49401461
>>49401479

What about something derived from Da Vinci's tank design? Remove the guns, make it square instead of round, and build it up a a bit more to resemble a tower. Add arrow loops and spots to use halberds/spears against close enemies, and a heraldry bearing pulpit/fighting platform at the front where a commanding knight can use a lance on the charge or sword and board once struck in.

>a group of knights with horns killing enemies and shattering walls with sound

This is more like it
>>
Ok here are some ideas of actual bretonnians units, to add diversity, if we wanna discuss them. Not done with a specific edition in mind, let's try and see if we can work something adaptable

>Dismounted Knights of the Realm
Special unit, same stats as normal Knights of the Realm. Come in two varieries, either hand weapon/shield or great weapon. They do NOT use pikes or spears because those are paesant weapons

>Warden of the chapel
Hero choice, an old, dismounted Grail Knight with a slightly better stat block, can be bestowed with Lady Blessings and basically works as a BSB giving army wide buffs, much like a Paladin but without mount options. They can on the other hand extend the effect of blessings on the units near them.

>Spirit Knights
Ethereal chivalry unit, the ghosts of past grail knights. One trick pony whose sole purpose is to RAPE undead, daemons and other ethereal units. Not so effective against living enemies.

>ballista
Self explanatory, a shitty version of elven and dwarven ballistas, works out alright

>Penitent knights
Dismounted Grail Knights armed with great weapons, are some kind of Slayer equivalent, but faster and better armored.

>bretonnian poachers/faceless
Skirmisher units, work with bows and have the ambush rule like beastmen

> Bretonnian sword militia
Skirmisher sword and board infantry unit, much like imperial swordsmen. Shitty unit overall, good for flanking and absorbing arrows

Needs work but it's a start
>>
>>49401603
Shit like that is problematic. 9 times out of 10 that is a fairly useless spell, dependent on your terrain. But the moment you play a siege game, this guy becomes a must-have.
>>
>>49401497
>Fuckhuge lance + blasting charge
>Bretonnian warhorse w/earmuffs
>A shitload of faith to the lady
>>
>>49401729
A ranged unit of Bretonnian Knights, who use sonic damage similar to, say, crossbows in damage but a much shorter range - do extra damage against structures.

Carrying horns blessed by the lady? Used to rally their forces as well?
>>
>>49401819
perhaps a lone character with a horn, that main use is to buff the troops but can also destroy walls
>>
>>49401750
let him smite monsters too

basically a guy on a pegasus throwing lightning down on anything big
>>
>>49401743
>Spirit Knights
>Ethereal chivalry unit, the ghosts of past grail knights. One trick pony whose sole purpose is to RAPE undead, daemons and other ethereal units. Not so effective against living enemies.

A unit that can only damage other summoned/ethereal enemies, and can only damaged by them or magic in turn?

Great at harassing enemies or just locking them up as a tar pit.

>Spirit Knights
>Ethereal chivalry unit, the ghosts of past grail knights. One trick pony whose sole purpose is to RAPE undead, daemons and other ethereal units. Not so effective against living enemies.

Not him, but its kind of important to the concept. A typical swarm is normally on the same size base as an ogre, and represents a pile of small critters. What the other anon is suggesting is a swarm composed of cavalry sized creatures, and stating the size of the Base, since trying to cram 5-6 knights on anew ogre sized based is a stupid idea.

Bretonnia should be able to field a large number of cheap hero units.

Or have demi-hero like units as options for their rare choices.
>>
>>49402331
I have once proposed Grail Knights all be single models with powerful rules. legendary champions riding as a unit makes no sense, really.
>>
>>49402405

Bretonnia should be about fielding large numbers of faceless mook knights backed by a lot of heroes.

>>
>>49402405
If they ride as a unit it should be small, like 3 to 6 at most. Riding fuckhuge horses that make regular Bretonnian warhorses look like warponies. Monstrous Cavalry without the monsters. Choosing from a list of magical upgrades such as magic lances, swords and Virtues.

Virtues should have been a selection on their own, not in addition to magical items. Which is weird because I thought that was the original intention, as Anthony Reynolds, the guy who wrote the Bretonnia book, had too many points allotted to his Lord's magic item allowance. With the Virtue he went over by a good 15 to 20 points, so I assumed that a Lord could take 100 points of magic items and one Virtue. But all FAQ say that the allowance is magic items plus a Virtue.

>Warden of the Chapel
Just remove how it is mandatory that Paladins and Lords be mounted.
>Spirit Knight
Better as an infantry unit.
>Penitent Knights
I would say that Grail Knights should start on foot instead, and can upgrade to either a horse or pegasus. By relation, one unit of pegasus knights should be able to upgrade to Questing Knights.

I think they were planning on the Tomb Kings - or maybe just Nagash - having a bigger role in an End Times scenario, maybe since Archaon had flubbed so hard during Storm of Chaos, but then GW did an about face and went 'hey we can have Nagash AND Archaon destroying the world!' But they didn't really give the Tomb Kings any new toys during the End Times, where with Chaos they did.
>>
>>49406790
End Times seemed rushed to me. They had all the tasty Tzeentchy stuff apparently ready, Archaon's old warband (i.e. AoS Varangur), etc - i.e. things that would've made sense to unleash as part of taking over the world - and they just kept them. Could've at least made End Times more epic while there were at it...
>>
>>49406790
They did end times to make aos and use new models in it. Tomb kings would never get anything new.
>>
>>49406300
I am fond of 'not their fault' causes at times.

One of my slayers was a runebearer before he took the oath. A small mining settlement was under attack, and he took more dangerous routes hoping to get there quicker. In his urgency, he injured himself very badly and arrived later than he'd hoped. After he recovered from his wounds he found out that the relief force arrived too late and took the slayer oath, feeling he should've been there to die with his kin. Even if he'd been more conservative he would've been too slow to call for aid, but he still blamed himself for the failure.

Another was an explorer who recovered lost artifacts in abandoned/lost dwarf holds. In one delving, he was recovering that settlement's book of grudges, which had not had its grudges sent back to the master list before it fell. He found the book but dropped it down a chasm while climbing out fleeing cave squigs.

Grudgelore has a story of a youngbeard who brought the head of what he thought was a rat ogre to a bar and started bragging about how he killed it.

The other dwarfs started laughing and told him the head wasn't of a rat ogre, but a skaven female. His embarrassment was enough to make him take the slayer oath, it really can be that simple with dwarfs.

Love time of legends, specifically the undead ones. I would skip/skim the first nagash book. The other 2 are hilarious. Neferata is also pretty interesting.

I also really like some of the end times books, even if that is verboten. The first one is amazing and I enjoy the elf, skaven and final one (untill manfred goes full retard)
>>
>>49413670
I wouldn't say skim the first book, but the constant shifting between time periods does get annoying as it removes the threat of certain characters getting killed if they appear in the 'future'. Had it been more linear I would have liked it more.

>>49414855
The time shifting is very anoying and the depictions are a little inconsistant. And everyones intro is the most embarassing thing ever, especially Arkhan. Hes like the greatest, but that first aperance in the battle scene is so awful
>>
>>49415283
Over a series of hundreds of years. As the Empire got stronger, its people no longer needed to worry about orcs attacking them daily, or beastmen running amok. Altdorf used to be a small village on the Reik, and within a generation it was turned into a fortified and prosperous city. Back when Sigmar was fifteen, he remarked that a man who died at 40 was an old man.

There just less of a reason for you to be Macho Man when you fought in disciplined ranks and technology got better and better.
>>
>>49415283
if we are to go by time of legends, the empire was kinda like the snowniggers that killed europe at that time, with mounted soldiers armed with spears and other fun bits.

It doesn't take too long to go from that kind of technology to gunpowder given that the empire apparently had an oc donut steel character who discovered it himself during sigmar's time.
>>
>>49415361
He didn't discover it, he used samples of dwarf gunpowder but couldn't replicate it properly. Alaric gave him another sample at the end of the series but I doubt anything came of it as there are no gunpowder weapons by the time of 1111 during the Black Plague series.
>>
>>49415392
all it proves is that the guy who wrote the ToL was a fucking hack.
>>
>>49415463
There are at least five different people, that I can think of, who wrote Time of Legends books. When books change authors it generally means things won't always line up, sometimes even in the same series. Master of Dragons shows us that dragon and rider can feel each others pain because they have a mental link together, whereas the next book Curse of the Phoenix Crown translates that into actual physical damage. A dragon's eye is cut by an axe and its rider's eye suffers the same damage.

There's also other things like three characters that show up in two different series, but all die before they could show up in the next book which was written earlier. Or a city still standing but was destroyed in one sentence at the end of another series, which was also written later.

Hard to say as it's probably old fluff and there are accounts of the opposite happening. Bretonnia conquering the Empire, pre-Kislev Gospodars tearing shit up to the point where the Tzarina's sword is known as an anti-imperial weapon, and Bretonnia colonizing the Border Princes.

Even without gunpowder, if that stuff were to happen it wouldn't be such a huge accomplishment seeing as how the other human nations weren't founded yet. I also sincerely doubt that the Empire would try to take dwarf lands, as if it were attempted the dwarfs would come down hard on them. Not to mention their relationship, as the Empire and dwarfs have been bros for over a thousand years at that point. With bumps in the road to be sure, but not to the point where the Empire would steal from them without any kind of reprisal.

In older editions there were living citizens in numas, but that seems to be retconned by 8ed. Settras great purge was always one of those things that was about to happen, but never did. Settra invading the old world would have been a much better story than Archaon keading the chaos invasion. There's a difference between a bullet and an arrow, you understand?

Instances of people surviving a shot to the head where the bullet actually hit the brain are so rare as to fall into statistical non-existence. A lot of cases of survived headshots are when the bullet bounces off the skull or takes them in the jaw.

For the instance being discussed, we're talking about an arrow being punched through the forehead and logging in the brain.

Bullet impacts are a significantly different wound to arrow impact.

It's confirmed that the elves of Har Ganeth eat people during death night at least. They release a bunch of slaves into the streets to increase the bloodshed and start eating the corpses.

This is the only specific example but seeing that dark elves consider humans to be little more than animals, eating them wouldnt be very shockingly out of character

Gotta remeber, skaven, lizardmen, ogres, halflings, chaos warriors, Greenskins, Giants and beastmen all eat people. Dwarfs eat trolls, so it wouldn't be too weird to see them eat people, and I remember seeing something suggesting that chaos dwaefs aren't against eating other sapient beings

It's implied Dwarfs capture trolls and keep them alive to farm them for meat, leather and other assorted resources they can get from them.

But, for all that, most trolls are not sapient. They're dumb beasts. There are a few notable exceptions, but they aren't the norm.

They have varying intelligence, not all are braindead morons. Most are, but there are a few that are just slightly above that and can talk.

>>49417149
yes, parrots as a species are not sapient.

There might be isolated cases of trolls barely managing to 'speak' but by and large they are dumb and incredibly dangerous animals that are surprisingly amenable to becoming cattle because of their peculiar abilities.

Trolls are like grox in that respect.
>>
>>49417168
>yes, parrots as a species are not sapient.

Depends on which species you're referring to, but many bird species have demonstrated sapience.

The most famous example of this is the African Grey Parrot Alex. But even Magpies have been shown to demonstrate the capacity to recognise themselves.

>There might be isolated cases of trolls barely managing to 'speak'

Like the Troll King who tried to raise his entire species up a few notches on the intelligence ladder?

>Trolls are like grox in that respect.

You're certainly proving this to yourself, at the very least.
>>
>>49417168
>yes, parrots as a species are not sapient.

Sentient: Capable of perceiving the world around them.

Sapient: The ability to act using knowledge, experience and understanding.

A lot of birds exhibit both these traits.

Shit, a lot of animals exhibit both these traits. And humanity is discovering evidence of these traits in more and more species as time goes by and our understanding of what intelligence is increases.

>If you were trying to capture a knight in the midst of battle, shooting him in the head is not the way you'd do it.

Unless you are an elf who knows what he is doing and how to disable a knight by shooting him in the head without killing him. If he was dead, then why is the elf picking him up to safety? Hm?
>>

>Like the Troll King who tried to raise his entire species up a few notches on the intelligence ladder?

Throgg is magically enhanced. Probably by the crown he was wearing. He stated that he felt alone because the rest of his species were so dumb and not given to conversation.
>>
>>49417233
>If he was dead, then why is the elf picking him up to safety? Hm?

1. Hang up as a warning.
2. Trying to retrieve something from the corpse.
3. Getting a trophy of your kill.
4. It could be the other way. He could have grabbed the Knight from his saddle as he passed and another elf could have delivered the kill shot.

>>49417240
Trolls are described as dull-witted. They are also capable of producing simple tools and weapons.

>>49417248
>He stated that he felt alone because the rest of his species were so dumb and not given to conversation.

A perfect example of the level of intelligence of trolls. His kind were capable of conversation, but not given to it. Trolls are probably smarter than dogs but dumber than goblins.

Generally, this is a real transition that happends in actual conquerers cultures as well. With the destruction of your enemies, you dont generally say "hmm, everyone should live like roaming nomads!". You take over castles and towns, and get comfy. With that, you usually picked local advisors to help keep the peace, and over time, adpot local tradition. Ghengis Khan adopted alot of chinese tradition, for exmple.

it makes perfect sense from an in universe stand point though.

The elves aare so arrogant that they take magically gifted humans and turn them into little shota servants.

>>
>>49419066
>The only reason the empire even has the colleges is because teclis likes humans
On the other hadn the only reason why Empire did not have their own magical tradition was dwarfs:
"magic is bad, m'kay attitude"
Brets are artificially kept behin by elves, Tilea an Estalia don't have enough lore to say what is their stance to magic.

Nehekhara had it own magic, Cathay also have their own lore, plus in Cathay you can worship Changer of Ways without being antisocial dick, which helps.
>>
>>49419168
plus you know, the entire
>magic users are mutants that need to be killed.
thing they had going on.
>>
>>49419186
I always treated it as dwarf influence.
And no all magic users are to be killed.
Divine casters are accepted. And in fluff there are hints that in reality both arcane and divine magic is exactly the same, both priests would never admit it. Also to use divine magic you need to have magic talent in first place and most clergy don't have it.

>Nehekhara had it own magic

Did it?
I thought it came all from Nagash, who learned magic from a captured dark elf
>>
>>49420706
They had divine magic at the very least. Though I think magic wasn't really founded until the Mortuary Cult, and even then that's not much like a modern College. It's more like Bretonnians and their Damsels, only they weren't taught by elves, they just kind of made it work.
>>
>>49419239
Divine magic and arcane magic comes from the same. Source, but humans don't know this. The elves were very amused when the empire priests tried to claim that magic is bad but what they do is fine.
>>
>>49421221
>they just kind of made it work.
So they were able to develop their own magic tradition. Nagash latter combined it with elven one to make necromancy. If it was more in arcane or divine in nature, I'd say there is lack of sources. But form what I remember they were doing it in quite scholarly way in their quest to immortality as in arcane approach.

>>49421800
Source is not up to debate, all magic and miracles are winds of magic. Questionable is if gods actively help priests to cast spell or gods could as well be non-existent and priest's magic would work the same just by their own faith.
It is weaker but safer.

Also in wfrp Empire have it's own tradition in advanced hedge magic (Shades of Empire I think)

And there is Kislev with hags and ice witches.
So if not for dwarf induced prejudice, humans are well capable to develop their own functioning and not that corrupting traditions.
And in the end human developed magic is safer than college one as it does not trigger chaos manifestations but wrath of gods/spirits/ice/whatever
>>
>>49416190
Why not compromise?

Archaon is defeated and dies begging for his life during the Storm of Chaos, everyone thinks it's time to celebrate, then Settra starts his invasion?
>>
>>49422191
I'd guess that most human magic originally comes from divine worship - the Old Faith of primitive humans, early rituals and shamans, that sort of thing. You can see that in Bretonnia, where the Damsels and their magic practice have been neatly incorporated into their faith. Though you could easily argue that places like Kilsev and Bretonnia believe their magic comes from the land.

The Empire ended up with a stronger prejudice against magic, probably because they didn't believe their land was magical like Bretonnia or Kilsev, and would often bear the brunt of Chaos invasions. And they also had Witch hunters to decide what was unclean and what was not, putting hedge wizards into a more dangerous position.

>implying that Vlads hordes are comparable at all to the Golden hosts of Settra
We're talking about hundreds of Dynasties worth of Skeletal warriors who actually retain their fighting skills from life, not shambling hordes that are like 98% zombies. The fact that they possess competent ranged troops already makes them more dangerous than the vampires, and thats without mentioning that all of their arrows can twist in midair to seek their victims. On top of all that we have all the animated constructs who are lore wise imperious to just about anything short of magic and artillery.

Besides, the point isn't to have Settra conquer the empire, its just an interesting invasion. The elves and dwarfs would undoubtably help, as would the bretonnians, and they would probably push back Settras forces at great cost. Its just that this scenario works best if the empire is at its height. Post SoC empire would be in no position to fight another massive war, this time against a much more organized and numerous enemy. They *could* win but anything left after that would be quickly taken over by someone like Mannfred

Tamurkhans horde was badly gimped by the time it reached Nuln, to the point where a Nuln with most of it's troops away fighting were able to fight off the attack.

Azhag was fighting on the opposite side of the empire so Nulns ruin had no effect on the battle.

Settra would get gimped by having to fight through the Badlands and the Border Princes. The Tomb Kings unifying and moving north mean every last greenskin putting aside their differences to kick some skelly bonces. Wouldn't be surprised if Grimgor turned up there as well.
The Sylvanians would help out as well, and considering there's probably something in the ancient plaques about "Don't let skellingtons rule everything.", I wouldn't be surprised if Nehekhara got a Saurus host marching up from the Southlands.
