Wincon is Spellweaver Helix imprinted with Flame Jab and Worldfire. Helix can be triggered by a Flame Jolt cast with Retrace, so you just have to mill one rather than reliably draw one.

You can also go infinite with Helix, Jab/Crime and a Time Warp/Stretch by using Loam to get your lands back for Retrace every turn.

The academy ruins seems a bit odd, especially with only two Mines, but I can see it as a way to get back Elixir after a Decay/Kcommand. The reason I don't like it is that A) Elixir is crutial but only as a safety net, and while running two safety nets is even safer I wouldn't bother, and B) If Elixir gets Kcommand/Decayed, you've already won/lost as they're not focusing the Mines, and C) IIRC it doesn't stop them popping Relic when you pop Elixir.

It's an extremely low opportunity cost though, so I can totally see it being played (as well as stuff like Inkmoth vs infinite life)

Of all the colorless lands I've ran, the most consistently good one would have to be the charge land. It never does much, but it rarely disappoints. Sometimes with Fountain it's useless but other games that dumb land is the only reason you live.
Gemstone Caverns has been very good to me, some games it does nothing but the games it does work make up for it.

Also, I'm curious if that list should run a babyjace in the 75. His ult is the best alternate wincon. Snap chumps are really damn good in the deck too, I really like that list.
>>
>>49398389
They unbanned Nacatl a little over two years after it was banned.

Of course, that doesn't make Twin's unbanning likely, but it goes to show cards that weren't on the original banlist aren't impossible to bring back.
>>
>>49398972
Fair point
Nacatl isn't nearly as powerful as Twin though
Although I am curious my GGT was banned in the first place, since Dread Return was also banned, it seems like just now is Dredge actually powerful in Modern

>tfw someone mills you to death with multiple Thought Scours while you're playing Dredge

I was playing against Thing Ascension and had boarded in a couple Gnaw to the Bones, so my life total was inflated beyond any hope for them of killing me with damage. Instead they just kept bouncing my board back into my hand and then finished off my library instead.
>>
>>49399032
Golgari Grave-Troll was banned preemptively. They had no idea what Modern Dredge could or could not do, so they hit Grave-Troll in the initial list just to be safe.

Modern dredge is good because amalgam is busted, not because of troll. If troll was banned again dredge would still be good, but if amalgam was banned dredge would go back to being a tier 2 deck at best.

You got next level'd.
That's the thing with ascension decks and why I love them so much, they have so many angles of attack.
>Opponent side leyline of sanctity
Say hello to my goblin friends.
>Opponent brings leyline of the void
Wait till I have critical mass on hand then on their EoT echoing truth their leyline and go off on my turn. Not to mention the time I said Epic Experiment for 8, my opponent didn't knew that was a card.
>Opponent Thoughtseizes me then Surgical extracts my draw spells
Kill him with 6 lightning bolts.
Not to mention the times they ask that if you really can target creatures with Grapeshot.
I love ascension decks and always keep a single Storm Crow on my wallet at all times.

Well when the whole puca economy relies on points that (should have equivalents to USD) are heavily inflated and only worth 60% of their dollar value, it has to end sometimes. The owner use the site as a cash grab. They take peoples money and pump as much points in as they please. Points to pay for advertising on youtube, points for signing up, etc etc. No regulation. It was only a matter of time.
>>
>>49399126
It was a new format and Dredge is a scary Legacy boogeyman, they weren't sure how things would shape up when they made the first banlist so they went with a lot of gut feelings.

I want to find a way to make a modern Pox deck that can force the opponent to either kill themsevles or be the ultimate deciding factor in what kills them
ie
>reversing life gain
>forcing draws and life loss on draw
>giving the opponent creatures that hinder them in some way
>forcing the opponent to take damage from his own lands or creatures
>attacking or destroying creatures that then destroy them (phyrexian obliterator)

Ive been trying to think of more creative a tricky combos for pox that are still modern legal otherwise Ill go Legacy

I'm a complete beginner to "competitive" magic with a basic-level grasp of magic mechanics and absolutely no familiarity of the Modern metagame or how competitive magic is played or the lessons and behaviors that competitive players have engrained into themselves after years of play.

What reasonably strong budget Modern deck should I buy? I just want to plunge in balls deep while accepting that I'll shit myself with misplays and missed triggers while getting fucked in the butt.

>>
>>49406474
I don't think they're acting like they pass in that scenario, just relying on courtesy.
>>
>>49406466
rg tron or merfolk would probably the strongest decks for a "budget". there's also living end and ad nauseam, but they are combo decks that can do very well or very poorly depending on meta game
>>
>>49406527
Look into Grixis Delver
>>
>>49406466
Monored Burn is fairly budget and not that much worse than the naya/boros versions. Better in the mirror since you take less off your manas and you can even beat Leyline with creatures beats and Eidolon.
>>
>>49406466
You're probably looking to spend about $400-$500 for one of the "cheaper" good decks of the format.

Of decks in the $400-$500 range, you have your pick of:
>Dredge
>Eldrazi and Taxes
>Ad Nauseum
>Living End
>Elves

You might actually be able to get Dredge built for less than $400 depending on the exact build.

>Grixis Delver
>A deck that wants Tarns

Soul Sisters was $90 when I started Modern. It's Tier 3 or 4, but still fucks decks that can't side against it.
>>
>>49406783
Probably because no deck needs to.
>>
>>49406783

>>
>>49406466
If money is not a concern, then ignore Modern and play Legacy. It's more expensive, but it's a format where the strongest deck is the one that you know how to play; a format where a "tier one" deck piloted by a noob can easily be defeated by a home brew piloted by a dedicated, experienced player.

This is a new "new" record
>>
>>49406968
When Eldrazi exploded with BfZ and became the archetype to beat, it became really obvious which players knew the format and could play the field, and which were scrubs with babby's first Tier 1 deck.
>>
>>49407000
How does Eldrazi Winter prove
>a "tier one" deck piloted by a noob can easily be defeated by a home brew piloted by a dedicated, experienced player.

Everyone remembers Eldrazi Winter, nobody knows what you're talking about though.
>>
>>49407000
I was questioning the truth of the proposition "a "tier one" deck piloted by a noob can easily be defeated by a home brew piloted by a dedicated, experienced player", not the existence of the Eldrazi Winter.
>>49407030
Yet somehow this wasn't reflected in the top8s at all.
>>
>>49406920
>Norin Sisters is $800
>What the fuck happened?
People realized that people dont buy singles, they buy decks. If people will buy junk goodstuff for 1000 dollars then they will also pay 1000 dollars for the deck that made semifinals at a tournament against junk goodstuff.
>>
>>49407155
People all flock to the cheaper decks and that inflates their prices eventually.
This is the power of the Magic economy
>>
>>49407192
Then the autistic playerbase refuses to lose a little money on a card so prices never come back down. And in the meantime, you've got teenage pseudo-stockbrokers trying to hoard cards to make money.
>>
>>49407155
>>49407192
I have fond memories of getting into Modern early and watching everything spiral out of control. My brother decided to buy Living End pretty much on a whim, and it cost him less than $60 to do it. Fulminators were $5 each, Spirit Guides were $1, Living End was $10 for a playset, the Fastlands were practically nothing. The whole deck is about $700 now.

It's amazing just how ridiculous things have become.
>>
>>49407325
And here I am praying every day they'll reprint Liliana and Verdant Catacombs
>>
>>49406920
>>49407030
What are you talking about? The Eldrazi Pro Tour was like 6 eldrazi decks in the Top 8, literally "who gets to play Thought-knot Seer first": the format. WotC admitted they fucked it completely up and not only nerfed the deck by banning Eye of Ugin, but they also dissolved the whole Modern Pro Tour concept as a result of it. In no way is it a legit example of "homebrews defeating noobs running tier 1 decks".
>>
I've been away from Modern because I got into EDH for like about six months now. I have an Affinity deck. Is it still good? What have been major changes in the meta?
>>
>>49407514
>I have an Affinity deck. Is it still good?
Affinity has never not been good. And the maindeck has barely changed outside of the numbers for the past 3-4 years now.

>What have been major changes in the meta?
Bant Eldrazi and Dredge are decks now, Abzan Company has fallen out of favor, Nahiri Jeskai is certainly a meme at this point, Junk Midrange is rising in popularity, and Suicide Zoo is definitely seeing play.
>>
>>49407485
I bought Lilianas at an all-time low of $16 each. Don't worry, maybe it'll go down to $60 if they put it in Modern Masters 3.

He had Spellskite with 18 or 16 life cant recall, so basically he could have just paid 6 life to prevent all Knight untaps on the turn in question, untap, possibly kill him or keep up two blue for the next 2 triggers (knight taps for fetchland+crack) on the following turn and pay 2 life for the third one (land for the turn) on the turn after that (Knight wouldn't have been lethal).

EMA would have been great if they had given the set a large print-run. The card selection was excellent, the fact that it made zero impact on prices was less excellent.

Become Immense has been a contender for a while now, since it's been a problem for powering out early kills in both Infect and Zooicide. Mutagenic is also possible.

Of the creatures, Glistener Elf is obviously the biggest problem for early kills, but they might not want to kill the deck outright.

>>49411125
EDH is helped by only needing 1 copy of each card, and you can easily run with suboptimal cards and still have a strong deck due solely to the nature of the format. Modern is full retard priced though. You can easily get a strong Legacy deck for a few hundred dollars over a Modern deck.
>>
>>49411125
this

I just play kitchen table pauper now. Actual pauper is fedora-tier, but in kitchen table it serves to bring the game speed down to manageable levels when everyone is coming from a Modern+ background.
>>
>>49411188
What's fedora tier about actual pauper?
>>
>>49411187
>implying
EDH is vomiting land hate and infinite combos at this point.
>you can easily run with suboptimal cards
Except every card you run has a dramatic effect on the board state when it enters. Otherwise there's no reason to have that card in the deck.

It's a mess.
>>
>>49411125
It's great if you bought into it a few years ago.
>>
>>49411216
Yes, but a lot of EDH staples are dirt cheap because they are literally unplayable everywhere else outside of kitchen table.
>>
>>49411212
The players are mostly faggots who endlessly toot their own horn about how they're "smart players who refuse to spend too much money on cardboard"

It's the tooting their own horns part that's the problem. Also some of them bitch about any card that costs over a certain amount, or are of a certain age, because they're "too powerful" and/or "probably a fake"

It probably depends on your local group. That's how mine is, and I see it online enough that I assume it's true for most of the dedicated pauper players.
>>
>>49411241

>>49411187
No, there's 2 main issues with edh
>1: tutors. There's not a single reason to not run every good tutor in your deck. I play damia and I have access to some of the best tutors. My play group is the same and so this 99 card singleton loses a lot of variance because of that. We're all spikes so the odds of lowering the powerlevel vs just changing games is rediculous
>2: the format is solved. Wizards keeps printing cards that are the best x for situations. What's the point to a format that strives for variance when every decks runs a stock list of the best cards in that colour plus a few that synergism with the commander (usually for an infinite combo) ex: You're in green? Rampant growth, farseek, explosive veg, skyshroud claim, etc etc, all are must haves. Sure makes deck construction and variance unimportant if every colour has a stock 20+ cards you just need to run because they're so good, not to mention auto includes likes Sol ring, mana crypt, mana Vault, etc to every single deck ever. And every archtype has best commanders.
In theory edh is a fantastic format, in practice it's not

Modern is full of staples that will keep their value long term. Standard cards that won't see modern play will drop when they rotate, and even if they don't if you pick them up while they're standard legal you're almost certainly losing money as you're paying more than they're worth.

Modern cards don't usually drop hard unless bannings that effect X deck happen.

Or
Silent and stealthy?

If it was me i would bring a cell jammer and hit the power off line.

Then with security systems offline and him having to use land line phones to dial 911 i would bust down the doors with large tools and KO any adults/teens.

Then take whatever the fuck i can get and gtfo.

>also, what did you destroy?
>is it worth crying over?
It was mostly a sentimental deck so most of the carda replacable. 2 foil Norns are probably dead tho, those and 2 non-foil karns are the most expensive things i had in it. My heart sank when i looked into the box, i still havent assesed the total damage but i know every cart is rediculously warped.

You've put a lot more thought into this that seems truly necessary.
>>
>>49413720
Wow! What a genius! I'm totally going to buy 600 dollars of Khans of Tarkir boxes, and hold onto em for 5 years for a sweet 40 dollar profit!

Waaaaay way better then using that money to do this stupid thing called buying the fetches!

Too much to smash and grab
Wait for him to come home at night, follow him into the house to keep security systems from going off, tie him up, then take everything and throw it into a van and drive off, switching the license plates with some stolen from a shopping mall after a few miles, then drop the van off at a location at least 50 miles away and drive it all back in multiple separate cars
like any non retarded person would do

You can at least get them into something of a playable state.

From what I've been able to find in discussions on the topic, a common tactic seems to be to take several sheets of blank white paper, put the cards in between the sheets, and then apply an iron (without steam) to the surface in order to safely dry them out and warm them into a malleable state. Then while the cards are still warm, put them into sleeves, take a large book and place the cards in the center of the pages, then put a heavy weight on top. Leave the cards inside the book, pressed by the weight, for a week or two.

Good luck.

This is true it is edgy but its also purely fantasy standpoint.
No i dont believe i am like a final fantasy character or some retard shit.
Its like imagining what screwing a girl you see on the street who you have never met is like.
Almost 0% chance that it will ever happen or you will attempt it.
Even less once you actually try it if you do at all.

Tl;dr dude deserves it. We want to play modern withouy having to take out a small loan each fucking time we want a new deck.
>>

Someone's defensive.
>>
>>49414117
Thanks man, ill try that when i get home. I might post the results if the thread is still up
>>
>>49413730
I wasn't even who you were originally replying to, your statement about eggs not having enough cmc among artifacts on the field to facilitate easily playing the creature is just factually wrong so I put in my two cents

I agree it's not the best game plan, especially with mainboard ensnaring bridge
>>
>>49414467
Oh hell I completely mixed up eggs and lantern control

You're probably right
>>
>>49414223

why not get defensive when you're being attacked?
>>
So if infect isn't fucked on Monday, can we expect to see
>hierarch spikes
>might? spikes
>inkmoth spikes
>pendelhaven spikes
>melira spikes

and if it IS fucked
>ad nauseam spikes
>angel's grace spikes
>urza land spikes
>grove spikes
>karn spikes
>ugin spikes

Not him but it stacks. Just a generic list with like 4 rhino etc seems silly for kitchen table. Not good enough for top8 stuff
>>
>>49413030
Literally how is that even possible? They will print as many packs as people are willing to buy at 3Â¥ a piece. They will never stop printing those cards when they are in rotation. How does one become this retarded?
>>
>>49413260
Bruh, it's like 10$ how are you even playing magic?

Does it draw me cards or enable a combo kill?
No, it's not good.

Infect getting hit does not cause tron to become good. And boy do I wish it would being a blue mage, but it isnt a good deck at all in the current meta, even without infect.

might be cool with ramp and evoke creatures, but honestly i doubt it

What would need to happen for Modern to actually become interactive again

And I don't mean unban Splinter Twin so we have *one* interactive deck

It's $13 CAD because Canadaland.[/spoil] Not sure if I want to drop $58 on a playset when I already dropped that much on two Greater Auramancies. When is $5-6 each?
>>
>>49416308
Interactive spells just need to be more powerful. Condition removals and counterspells have and always will be, a complete and utter shit.

I mean holy shit, it's better to drop 2cmc clock on table than sit with a remand in hand and hope it will someday do something.

Ive seen lists show up months before they top8 the event and only one anon rageposting that everyone said the deck was shit. Those people are our people and they hate it here.

>>49398372
No, there are several R costed spells that give your board firebreath and haste.

Its cheap because eveyone smells the ban comming. Its why the eldrazi deck was pennies after slaughtering every tourney it showed up in.
>>
>>49411241
Bud, edh staples arent cheap at all. If i didnt pull 400 dollars worth of staples I wouldnt have nearly as many wins at the table because FUCK buying a fow, a wasteland, or a sneak attack even.

>tcruise and dig are what wotc r&d thought would be balanced blue cantrips
>ponder and brainstorm are banned for being wrong
I can play dig and tcruise in commander in the cheapest poorman edh deck but if i had ponder or brainstorm i need 600$ worth of supporting lands. What drug is r&d taking because we need to test the water for trace amounts of it to keep the general population safe.

He's like Desolator, constantly shitting on other people with a smug sense of superiority. How anyone can not hate these kinds of Magic players is beyond me.
>>
>>49418390
EDH is only as strong as your playgroup. Find people who haven't sunk as much money into it yet, or others who are sick of playing staples.

I enjoy high level edh play tyvm. Nothing beats the fun play that these retardedly expensive cards gives, the only problem is they shouldnt be that expensive. My sneak attack allows for hilarious interactions but it shouldnt cost more than 20 dollars. Wotc needs to start putting a lid on these overpriced cards.
>>
>>49418770
It's EDH. There's no meta to the format except for your playgroup.
>>
>>49419007
>Wotc needs to start putting a lid on these overpriced cards.

Don't worry, you might see it in Amonkhet's very own Masterpiece series.
