They were the coldly logical smart guys of the setting, since they didn't have any instincts or urges to get in the way.

It's mostly an MMO thing. Probably the worst offenders are trolls in WoW. Mmale trolls are humanoid but obviously inhuman looking, with a hunched over, lanky build with long gangly legs and arms, long noses, and prominent tusks. Female trolls are pretty much blue-skinned humans with small tusks. Female trolls actually looked more like their male counterparts in the beta, but got changed due to being "too ugly".

And the whole time it was awesome. The character never broke the flow of things, he never went over the top on any specific portion of the magical realm, he just was the slut bard turned up to 11 and a reversal of many tropes (the most obvious of said tropes being the submissive and shy trap, which he most certainly was not)
