To sum it up, in decks with reanimator and big creatures, it's good.

That isn't really red's thing, mostly. So it works well with a few generals, but not most. A 6/6 first strike that dumps cards uselessly into your graveyard and only burns for maybe 5 is pretty shit.

It's not raw good stuff, but it's going to my Feldon, where people might actually be scared enough to let me draw 3 rather than risking the magic christmasland of being burned for 32, and on average getting hit for 10.

Meriek Control/Midrange. I rarely if ever cast her. Lots of flicker and reanimation to the point where I almost forget that I have a general.

Narset Pillowfort Super Friends. Ramp with mana rocks until I get Narset out, then hope to get some PWs or extra turns with her. Almost no creatures.

Alesha Aggro. The aggro equivalent of my Meriek. Lots of ETB value and reanimation to the point where I can win without casting or resolving Alesha. The difference is that I ALWAYS want to cast her.

My friend, who plays commander now and then tells me that the mana you can generate is restricted to the mana of your commander. But I recall reading somewhere that this rule was removed, though I can't for the life of me find where I read this.

I was actually surprised at how many combos there are in the deck. I discovered several of them only by playtesting, or seeing them happen in games by other people with different decks and realising I had the required combos on my list for this deck as well.

bounce effects will work just as well, untap abilities will work too, to an extent. Stasis abilities can also work in a jank way, but it requires giving them flash with vedalken orrery anyway.

Cloudstone curio, umbral mantle, puppet strings, etc will all be very crucial to him.

It's a bit thin on the ground. I think there's another dorf legend planned, who sounds reddish, and presumably there will be both more vehicles and dorfs this set and next. I'd like 25 good targets before I made the deck.

Also, dorfs are now a viable creature type to print again, now that WotC un-forgot them.

Verdict: not playable at the moment, probably playable come 4 months, will be better over time.

In my Pharika deck, I would blow people out with Doomwake Giant and Pharika. TnN for Craterhoof and Avenger? Hoof trigger on stack, I'll exile this wood elf for a snek and give everything -1/-1. Dealing with one massive creature is much easier than many.

As the other anon pointed out, Massacre Worm is great, fantastic even, but not so much if they're dropping with haste.

Tax effects. Ghostly Prison is a good one. With the conspiracy reprint, you can probably get it for a good price now. Though you'll need white for this and similar

Repeatable fog effects. There are many in green.

Low CMC board wipes, black and red got em. Especially if you are being swarmed with tokens. Something as simple as whipflare can stop them in their tracks. Toxic deluge it also powerful.

Blue has a lot of bounce effects but they are admittedly higher CMC and you can be dead before you cast them.

Hands down, the best way to stop a swarm though: Glacial Chasm. The cumulative upkeep hurts, but can buy you enough turns to do your thing and break their momentum entirely.

Evil? Well, maybe not. I'm still disgusted by the resulting "hierarchy of satisfaction" from these new Masterpiece products.

WOTC sits at the top. They will certainly increase the amount of sealed products that are opened with the inclusion of Masterpieces. They can also assert that they are adding value and making Standard more accessible. They get the greatest financial boost from selling sealed products.

Next, we have the secondary vendors. They get to crack sealed products and sell expensive singles without any fear of losing money. People will buy booster boxes from them. There will be some speculation and limited price gouging on booster boxes and maybe new Bundles.

On the bottom, we have the players. Individuals will pay the highest prices for singles. Old versions of singles will only exhibit slight price dips. Opening sealed products to hopefully pull chase mythics will be futile.

You see? In the end, these kinds of inclusions may not be evil but they overwhelmingly favor WOTC and secondary market vendors.

Conspiracy 2 is great though. I'm inclined to believe that the set has so many valuable reprints and expensive new cards because most of the other cards are literally fucking useless outside of draft.

C2: Electric Boogaloo was a ton of fun, too. I'm so glad it's not a fucking joke like Modern/Eternal masters. Fucking EMA, I swear to God. I missed all 60 boxes at my lgs. Gone in 2 weeks, and I missed it because I didn't have the cash. About a month later, he pulls out a box from a partner store and we draft. I can afford it without much issue, so I give it a shot. Nothing but pure fucking garbage. I spent the next 3 hours getting shit on by good shit I never even even saw passed to me. I tallied up the value of what I pulled, and it was sub $10.

The worst part is that the prices weren't hit in any meaningful way, so I still can't afford any of the reprinted shit. EMA just made me sad and depressed.

I run him in my Mogis enchantress deck for both wrath and Hellbent enabler, even though I have only one Hellbent card there. I've been noticing a lot of lifegain shenanigans going on lately in my playgroup and I want to do something about it. Not a Rakdos deck though, one that aims to control peoples life totals.

I'm thinking Abzan is the best color for it. There's lots of life to be paid and gained in those colors, and then I bring everyone down low with a life total swapping effect.

Life swap cards are usually overcosted and difficult to pull off. It's easier to include stuff like: Sorin Markov, Magister Sphinx, Tree of Perdition, Erebos, Havoc Festival, Leyline of Punishment, Malignus, Heartless Hidetsugu, etc.
Rakdos is definitely the best color combination for most of these effects.
Of course if you want to use life swap, look at some Selenia, Dark Angel builds. People like using her to drain their life totals then swap it.

I play in a pretty casual group so overcosted stuff isn't really a problem. Rakdos is the best yes, but I wanted to try it a bit different. This really takes advantage of life gain, not just preventing it. I'll let someone get to 80, draw myself low with Erebos or another effect, then cast Reverse the Sands or Soul Conduit, and suddenly I'm at 80 and they're at 6. Or Have Phyrexian Unlife with 0 life and swap it with somebody that has 50 or so.

That would be the plan at least, I figure it would be funner than just stopping lifegain, and might be open to politics (hey man looks like you're at 14 life, cast an Intellectual Offering my way and I'll give you his 40 life).

Angel's Grace and Platinum Angel are some other options for swapping 0 life or just protecting yourself.
As for commanders, Selenia is easily the best for this kind of strategy, but if you want to do Abzan, Doran makes a good blocker and finisher.

i decided to start making a budget endrek deck. amazingly i've kept it at like a 90 dollar budget while still having just about every card i've wanted.

not sure how to build him though, i feel like there's a bunch of themes to pick from

( see pic related ) and let me tell you, this is EASILY the funnest way to play him. Use ashnods alter +ancestral statue + endrek for infinite sac triggers. It's very grindy, and you can expect a pretty rough first couple turns assuming you don't have other token producers. I also went with a gray merchant type draining sub theme, as most of my card draw does quite abit of damage to myself. Hope this helps!

yeah i definitely can't make the deck survive in my meta without some way to guarantee that it either 1) functions without endrek or 2) can recur endrek when he dies or 3) can protect endrek some other way. the people in my meta just love to shoot spot removal at anything that looks remotely threatening so i need to plan around that.

i think recurring shit is just really slow and janky in general, so i might just get a bunch of other good token producers/sac fodder and add the good hexproof artifacts and call it a day. although it sucks to not go the recur route because i also like gray merchant

Is the Mikaeus infinite sac deck enjoyable? I was looking for a budget deck and, while I'm willing to pay more then the 20 this guy does, this deck list was shown to me as a good option for a starting deck?

my list is completely unoptimized but i've still won 2 out of 2 games with it on xmage. just create ctokens, sac them, draw a tons of cards and gain tons of life, force your opponents to sac guys and discard their hands. it feels very consistently strong so far.

it kinda just looks like you have too much of everything. put your stuff into categories of what problem they're supposed to answer (pillow fort stuff, removal, ramp, etc.) and then cut out the weakest cards in each category.

it kinda looks like you have a bit too much ramp for your lowish cmc of 3.5. also you only have 33 lands, knock that up to like 38. you aren't trying to burst people down with combo, are you? so ramp is really bad compared to just straight up lands.

you could also use some more draw and tutors. cut out the worst cards of each category, add tutors and draw.

i have no idea how a marchesa deck works though so thats just my cursory analysis

Having gotten into EDH because of this deck (I owned Mikey prior to it), I've found it personally to be very enjoyable. That said, mine has also drifted away from the original and become notably more costly, as it's taken on a zombie tribal flavor.

With that said, going for a zombie tribal vibe is fun because you can make them into respectable beaters at the same time you're using them as sacrificial resources, while distancing yourself from infinite combos. It makes you less dependent on them and more open to spontaneous, weird interactions.

You can go for the good expensive zombie cards, but even the lousy zombies still work thanks to Mikey's buffs. A couple choice eldrazi like Sifter of Skulls and Smothering Abomination are also cheap and give you some extra dynamics for your sacrifices.

Also, I keep a handful of infinite combos in there for political leverage. I don't really intend on using them to win, but rather to threaten others who might try the same.

Iona: I propose banning Iona because it's a very deceptive card. It looks like a big splashy fun card, but in reality it's a very narrow hate card, such as choke. The difference between choke and Iona is that nobody ever reads choke and thinks "my friends will enjoy this big splashy play." As a result, Iona ends up in more decks and ends up ruining more games, despite being a much more narrow hate card. Not playing three colors already has major sacrifices, you shouldn't be expected to slot in 15 pieces of obscure colorless removal just to have a better chance at being able to play the game against one card. There are cards that crush people harder when resolved, but none of them pretend to be fun for EDH the way Iona does.

Iona only punishes deck types that truly don't need punishment. Mono-color decks already lose so much for being mono-color, they don't need to lose another huge amount of deck slots and cash where other decks get the luxury of playing proactive or synergistic cards rather than slow removal.

I have a very creature heavy meta, also last time I played I have been declared 'Enemy of the State' for every game. I want to take on that title with style and focus a lot on boardwipes and removal. The deck is based upon my Daxos deck which I find lacklustering.

Shadows over Innistrad had 11 golds (1 for each pair asides from W/B that got Sorin+Anguished Unmaking, and Eldritch Moon had the same amount (10 pairs, 2 B/G with no U/G, and Tamiyo).

We currently have 11 golds spoiled for Kaladesh so far (Two in W/U, two in W/B, and no B/G revealed yet), so there's a slight chance there may be a 12th-13th dual/tri-colored card in the set considering OGW had 13 and BFZ had TWENTY THREE (23). Enemy-colored legends are gonna be a block-wide cycle, enjoy waiting for Aether Revolt though

What is the proper name for a deck that sits around on the table and plays "Judge", taxing the other players, either through raising costs of their spells or making them pay life or such to play them. Not shutting them down but instead punishing people for playing their cards.

I want to make a deck themed on sitting back and slowly draining people through tax effects and such. But I don't know what kind of deck that is called so its hard to really research.

Is it just called control or is there a better way to distinguish my search and get closer to what I'm looking for? I'm not fully familiar with what the archetype names are yet.
