Anyone got any images of post apocalyptic armor?

I mean stuff other than the Mad Max leather jacket really.
>>
What's the point of that even? Wouldn't work very well as a weapon.
>>
>>49317716
I mean it'd work decently well. If you hit a dude with that you're gonna break something. It doesn't have to be sharp to do damage.

Clearly you hit them with those big fucking bolts sticking out the end there. That'd fuck some shit up.

The other side is for intimidation.

This is the armour worn by Ned Kelly, infamous Australian outlaw and bank robber.

That did actually stop bullets, and it was handmade by the Kelly gang.

didn't stop them shooting him in the legs though.

Down right orky that is.
>>
>>49319418
It's far easier to punch holes and bend steel by hand to have basic curve or a couple creases than it is to forge it into an axe head.

On the other hand, you can't really make armor out of stone, while it's rather easy to make stone tools.
>>
>>49333609
It's not. Knapping an axe head of that size would take days and probably multiple failed attempts. You'd need to find the right shape and size stone more than once.

A good blacksmith could forge a equal or better axehead in an afternoon. At the very least it would be much more durable, if not as sharp.
>>
>>49333635
>Knapping an axe head of that size would take days
You mean about three hours? Because that's how long it took me to make something about that size when I attempted it the first time.

>A good blacksmith
Maybe, but there are far fewer trained blacksmiths in any world than there are those who were taught the basic principle of "hit rock on other rock to get sharp rock."

As someone who knows what good blacksmithing is, you should know the different consequences of results of bad blacksmithing skills.

What would you actually want for a suit of post apocalyptic armor anyways? I mean, sure, there will be threats that you'll need to guard against so it would be designed around that.

Most of what you'd want protecting is for scavenging in buildings and stuff to avoid injury, honestly. You'll want to avoid every little scrape and cut that could lead to infection.

As time moves on and bullets become more precious and rare, you'll encounter more arrows being shot at you. Not to mention everybody will be carrying knives. You'll probably want something to protect your chest and thighs from both of those.

But the big question is what can you do to protect yourself against more powerful guns, the kind of stuff than can rip through a bullet proof vest. I'm sure plenty of military people will desert taking their gear with them; there will also being military bands that stick together either to become a new settlement or to be raiders in the post-apocalypse. And of course there will be survivalist chucklefucks who have been hoarding cans of food and ammo for years with every gun they maxed out their credit card to get.

You'll also want some sort of gas mask with extra filters, goggles, and sun glasses.
>>
>>49336807

Nothing you can do against big guns, that kind of armor is reserved for vehicles which would be double rare in the apocalypse.

If you were really out to take on someone sporting guns like that your best defence would be to have a lot of men, their lives are probably cheaper than the bullets anyhow, plus you can divide their shit among the rest of your living boys.

No seriously. Merchant armor is real. Stock up on weapons and whatnot, roll through the wastes, trade with people, and when they inevitably try to rob you, remind them that all your shit will run out in a month and they'll be fucked, whereas if they let you walk you can come through and resupply them regularly.

People will be desperate for some stability and a nice chat, and once you build a reputation or make enough to hire on a few guards, you're more or less set.
>>
>>49333635
Late here. Anon below you has it right. That shit takes maybe an hour if you're experienced and assuming you don't crack the piece even a fuck up of an axe head will take 3 hours at most.
>>
>>49337798
Depends. You ever sse what happened to the old merchants that went to the otherside of the rockies after winter? About 4/5 got robbed and killed cause that was the first bit of supplies those people saw in a long while.
They even traded those supplies they didn't need with the 1/5 who had guards/came later for gear they still didn't have. Then they did that year after year for some time.

Arrmour that people would wear after an "apocalypse?"
Plates in a plate carrier. Probably from a police department.

Anything that doesn't stop bullets is dead weight. People will stop wearing their dirt bike gear after the first two weeks, assuming they aren't getting around on dirt bikes.
>>
>>
>>49339650

Not a fan of those two blades near the bottom left. Especially what I guess is suppose to be a machete give the "blade" seems to made of three parts. Makes it far more likely to fail.
>>
>>49339475
Yes because after an apocalyptic event, bullets are going to be flying everywhere and not going to be spectacularly rare after the first few years of chaos.
>>
>>49340683
Makes a bit of sense from a scavenging standpoint, though. You aren't always going to be able to find a decent blade (or sharpenable chunk of metal) that's long enough to have a proper full tang in the grip. Maybe you've got a really nice handguard and hilt setup going that's nice and solid and fits your hand perfect, but the blade snapped in half. You don't want to toss the grip (it's got a compass in it!), so you find one of those too-short blades and bolt it onto the stump for length. If it does break again it'll break at the bolt, so it's easier to fix.
>>
>>49339650
Maces seem like they would be the meta. Easy to make and hard to fuck up.

>>
>>49339325
Wha...what side do you swing it from?
Do you hold it on both and short swing it?
>>
>>49341079
A mace has a distinct head which is rotationally symmetrical; it doesn't matter which side you hit with, but it does matter that you hit with the end.
A club has a fairly consistent or gradually sloped diameter over its length, or a "head" which occupies a longer length of the weapon than it protrudes. It doesn't matter what part of the weapon you hit with. Ex: one heavy nut threaded onto the end of a pipe is a mace. Twelve threaded on in a stack make a club.
A hammer is any blunt protrusion on a stick which is not rotationally symmetrical. It matters both what side and what part of the length you hit with.

The other combination not listed here (it matters what side you hit with, but not what part of the length) is called a sword.

Don't worry, the "ending" is literally similar to Skyrim's "wait, is that it?" ending but with an actual little ending movie that adds very little to anything - the game sort of has a core narrative, but also doesn't, like skyrim, so there's these big things happening in the setting, and during the "main quests" you resolve them, but also you get this feeling that you're very much fulfilling someone else's dream, rather than making your own mark on the setting.

"hollow railroading" I guess.

Basically anything with rebar is gonna be dense.
Got rebar? Cut off the top third, weld to top of the 2/3rd rebar, sharpen, swing.
Doesn't even have to be sharp, just really angular, the weight will do the rest.
Want a blackjack? Just wrap the long end clothing or somesort then tightly compress with a thin leather wrap. Same effect and everything and if you keep it to the uppermost bit you got a perfectly functional club if you flip it around and maybe sharpen that bitch.
Rebar even takes a nice point though if you don't heat treat it it will dull but just the very most edge.
Want a less than lethal compliance appliance? Wrap all but the grip with clothing or rags of some sort than wrap tightish with duct tape. Won't break(many) bones but it will teach whoevers on the business end who's boss.
>>
>>49318519

You can hollow up the tire. Just cut the inside of it out and leave the thick rubber as reduced as you can to be protective. That already is a huge weight reduction and you dont have to wear the whole armor.

Steel would be better though.

That's literally something worn by the protesters during the prelude to the ukraine conflict, during fights with the police and security services.

Not just doable, not just wearable, but battle tested, slav approved.
>>
>>49343820
Well thats just it. There isn't much you can shave off the inside, just the outside tread, and you sort of want that shit to be there to absorb impact and protect from cuts.
Honestly a better option would be japanese style lamellar armor from street name signs. They already come half cut mid-way and bending them by hand is absolutely possible. Already have 2 of the holes in the right spot as well, thick enough to stop stabs but thin enough where they're still lighter than tires.

After all half the battle is looking tough enough that your enemy gives a second thought about actually fighting you and not legging it instead.
>>
>>49341538
I like that power armor was more common, even if they made a marked difference between the scrapped together kind and the actually good shit, but I'm still not happy they made it more of an exosuit.
>>
>>49344432
I don't know about that. I have a few street signs and they're all real soft, like aluminum, where as license plates are stamped sheet steel.
They probable even out though, with the letters on the plate acting like fluting but the flats being way easier to pierce.
>>
>>49346627
Not sure where the cutoff is. upper midwest here and mine and either state over has stamp cut steel for all signs cause winters are harsh as piss and hale will erode an aluminum anything with a few storms. We still occasionally have to replace them even then.
They're hard enough that when pressed the half cut, to make the cross shape for the street signs, will crack with enough pressure but flexible enough that if you bend the bits evenly over your knee they'll take a curve.
Again, not sure if its state by state but the plates we use don't really bend but snap and are made mild galvanized steel for the salt we use on roads. It's soft in that a good punch will plow through no damage to the hand and even mild(200F) heat will let it droop under its own weight.
>>
>>49341575

Seriously.
>>
I love all these "axes" which have been made by cutting huge holes in the haft to put the blade through then cutting more holes to bolt the blade in.

There's fuck all wood left to hold the blade those really aren't going to last long at all.
