Sorry, I'm a newfag to this board. What's this for?
>>
>>49220881
If people are not lucky enough to have a group of friends outside of the internet to play games with, they come here to play shitty and short-lived games with /tg/.
Sometimes it even works out, and they get a long-lasting group. Sometimes.
>>
>>49220909
That'd be nice. I'm not a fan of online games though, since there is less dimensions to gameplay.
>>
>>49220973
Oh, I forgot to mention that there's a lot of shitposting. People call other people cucks a lot, GMs are insulted for no particular reason, a previous thread turned into a debate on gun control. Things like that.
>>
>>49221018
That's more of a recent thing. Calling out GMs was sparesely done before, and most discussions were about who's ad was the shittiest

Normally I insist upon Voice games that I GM, but I recognize this is a niche enough system that I'm willing to concede for a text based game. It'll depend on what the "right" players want; once I pick them, if even one guy would rather do text, we'll just settle on text

https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/56266/dominions-dawn-of-the-second-age-godbound

This game will be taking place in the Dominions 4 universe and will be organized and played over Roll20. You needn't be familiar with Dominions to play, it's just serving as a setting on which to run my own game.

There are a couple house rules to the base game, but most of them comprise of new systems to make the Godbound resemble Dominions more. Key things are going to be making Pretenders revive based on the faith of their followers, meaning all Pretenders are going to be immortal unless the cults that support them are scattered, introducing Magic Sites and Gems to be used alongside Dominion to weave miracles and make Features, and finally homebrewed Low Magic

Players can expect a focus on nation building, faction interaction, and discovery

Still need around 3 players

A few things. First I am looking for serious players who can actually commit to a couple of sessions each month for 3-5 hours each depending on how the group feels. Second thing, I am completely new to the system and I have been reading up but ++ if you know the system and can help me out during the game.

Last thing, I am by no means stuck up or elitist but I would ask that you type a paragraph or so intro to let me know what kind of game you are interested in and your general gaming experience. Really no pressure, just trying to find people who are actually interested enough to make an ounce of effort. Tired of flakes, but I am the foreverDM that lurks /tg/ randomly running games when I can.

Group of players (3 - 6 depending on system, time, etc.)

3 (the minimum):

2x eager newbies (familiar with the core concepts of P&P)

Players 4 - 6 also from the same VtM campaign (should they join)

That's the very definition of the word. An all powerful creator, as in the supreme being. The beginning and the end for all of eternity.
>>
>>49224373
That's the definition of one specific religion's God (with a capital G). Look at seriously any religion before and after Christianity and you'll be hard pressed to find an unimpeachable, omnipotent being that doesn't quickly fall out of favour within their own mythos.
>>
>>49224515
I think you mean 'outside of any Abrahamic religions'. Christianity does not have a monopoly on monotheism.

Right. I'm not especially into religion, so I never really bothered to learn the differences between that area of it.

Our group is looking for a DnD 5e DM that isn't a complete freakshow. We're a laid-back, fun, committed group of relatively new players. We've had two severely autistic DMs commit and then freak out before the first session and bail. I've been DMing in the meantime and one more NORMAL person that would be willing to rotate campaigns would be a godsend. Right now we have 3 out of 5 players willing to rotate DMing but none of the others are comfortable enough to do it just yet. If anyone has any interest just let me know.

>>
>>49226548
Except you are talking about that. If you recall, you're talking about Godbound, which is about playing polytheistic-style gods ('Zeus' gods, as you referred to them).
Your point is that 'god' only refers to omnipotent monotheistic figures, which is simply not true. It can refer to these figures, but it would be dishonesty, especially with your professed level of religious understanding, to claim that it is only used in a monotheistic sense.
I would also somewhat disagree with you in terms of Hinduism. While Hindu scholars and priests might care about those sides of the faith, most Hindus worship certain gods, not a single god.

(I would also disagree with the claim that Brahman is the same thing as a monotheistic god, though it is similar (at least in some schools of thought), but that is a whole other debate that I don't particularly want to get into).

I'm not even the same guy who you've been replying to, I just want to clear that up.

Also, I corrected him by saying that Abrahamic faiths would better suit his point, as opposed to Christianity. I'm fairly sure that that was what he meant.
>>
>>49226789
Maybe he needs players? Isn't that the whole point here? We can offer some motivated people and are not forcing anyone to do something they don't want to. I can't see the problem here.
>>
>>49226937
When he makes his own group, hes in control.
But he enters an already established group, especially a group made of friends, his control is taken away. If they dont like his rules, the players can just kick him out. He cannot just kick a bad player. I could go on dude, but face it, the "group looking for GM" thing is cancer, and youre part of it!
>>
Are these threads better than Roll20? I really am not feeling like sifting through endless piles of shit only to end up picking randomly and hope they're okay. I've heard the horror stories. Never played anything but I've been on /tg/ for a few years so I know my way around, and I live where this sort of thing isn't common so I figured I'd at least look into an online option.
>>
>>49227092
Roll 20 is full of SJWs. If you can sort through them and find the good ones then thats fine, but be prepared for some SHIT games.
>>
>>49227075
If we kick the GM we're back to NOT having a GM, which we obviously don't want. Your argument doesn't make any fucking sense.
>>
>>49227376
My point is simple you imbecile.
It would be you against the GM if things went wrong. Would you accept him kicking one of you? No, you would't. If he starts his own group, hes the boss. If he joins one, he not.

Oh and you still haven't given me a good reason for the GM not to make his own group. Players are a plenty after all.
>>
>>49227537
Apparently not since there are also GMs searching for players in this thread. I'm going to stop replying to you now since I'm pretty damn sure it's a waste of time.

Then those aren't gods. They're simply incredibly powerful entities that people call gods.

The hindu god actually does have an ultimate being. They even state that every human, 'god', and living being, the very water that you drink, is apart of a giant supreme being. Every living being is a 'shade' of this entity.

You're a group of gods summoned by a group on the verge of extinction to deal with the Empire exterminating them, correct.

If you're unfamiliar with Dominions 4, your mistake is thinking "God" = "Omniscient all powerful being." Pretenders are basically just entities who have thrown off the cycle of life and death and now live by the cycle of ideas. Being forgotten is death to a Pretender.

Pretenders can be anything from ancient dragons chained beneath the earth since the beginning of time to human mages who have mastered their own mortality. The low end power range of Pretenders matches Godbound's RAW on player strength pretty well, honestly.

what kind of faggy GM would accept a group of players? It's like if a classroom belonged to a group of students, and the teachers moved between classes, instead of the other way around. All GMs, just to keep the game running, need a certain measure of control and bringing a GM to a group of players as opposed to the opposite is the surest way to lose social authority. You're a trash human being and so are your compadres.

We're currently 5 sessions into the campaign. Our current campaign arc is revolving around political intrigue and subterfuge, though some detours may occur. We've had a couple of players drop out due to RL circumstances, so I'm looking for 2 players to come join. You'll be starting at level 5.

To keep thread bumped:
Pros and cons of text and voice?
>>
>>49241333

text encourages more game focus, pushes players to describe their character and actions more completely.

voice is more time efficient, you won't be there all fucking day resolving two scenes
>>
>>49241333
Text:
+Able to put more effort and flavour into an action without having to sit mutely while you think of the proper words
-More time spent on flavourful descriptions means the game goes far slower if one of the players is an ancient cunt who can't type for shit
+Far easier to immerse yourself in the world without getting dragged out by shitty accents or faggots who think their dad shouting at them in the background is acceptable ambience
-Far easier to get destracted by something in the background while you wait for the other players to resolve their actions
+Easily accessed records of the game
-Difficult to be ambiguous or subtle with words, you either literally spell something out or you have to jump through far more hoops to imply something (like, a certain tone of voice could convey deception, but you can't exactly type "This person looks shifty as fuck as they speak" without giving it away)
+Can technically play anywhere without getting weird looks from bystanders

Voice
>lowered expectation of dialogue quality, and no log of all the stupid shit you've said

All things considered, I tend to prefer voice for the sake of expedience.

I never understood why this is such a big problem for everyone. It takes me 5 seconds to declare my action and roll all my dice, and then the instant I pass my turn the next person decides NOW is the time to look up the exact description of one of their abilities, not the half fucking hour they've had since their last turn, and then at the end of all that decide they're going to do the same thing they've done the entire rest of the game. Aim + Standard Attack. So difficult to remember.

I think I know this guy. He even has the same picture as his avatar. He's a whinny little bitch who seems to think he can DM and police people around when he isn't even the fucking game. He tried applying for my WoD campaign and said he was from 4chan. The guy ended cluttering my Character Applications thread with stupid bullshit and applied with some lawyer who would have little to no reason to be apart of the group.

It's like he a pre made character and tried to force it into the campaign rather than making a character who would fit into the game.

I'd post his roll20 account, but I can't be 100 percent sure it's the same faggot.

Have a thirst for a good, story driven Black Crusade game. I'd run it myself but I'm already running several games. Willing to help the GM with whatever (worldbuilding, NPC creation, encounters). Fine with short, few week campaigns or long ones. Also ok with pre-written adventures from the books if you're feeling lazy.

In the end it depends on the group and the game. I can personally type faster than I can talk, but not everyone can do the same. At the same time if you are running a more rules-light system then the time spent in combat will barely be any different.

As a player or GM who wants to do an online campaign in any system (I need my fix, man...) But has roommates and thin walls, how exactly do text based adventures work?
>>
>>49244723
You do everything that you would say via text. For example a player would both type what his character says in text, then out of character type that his character is going to try to shoot the nearby brigand or whatever, then roll for it via a macro or other form of automation.

It depends on the medium of course. Boot up Roll20 and Maptools and see if you like them. If you are running a system that doesn't use a grid or anything I suppose that doing everything purely over IRC/Discord/Skype works.
>>
>>49244723

kind of like how this would be a public speaking forum if we didn't all agree to type things out instead. you inflect meaning through typing and distinguish ooc mentions from ic dialogue however you prefer (most people use quotation marks)
>>
>>49235513
>>49239186

honestly some of the worst players i've ever met in gamefinder threads have always been people who refuse to give out or establish an alias even temporarily for the game, going to things like "pseudonym" or "nobody" or "anon m." or whatever else. it's like a complicit agreement that they're ready to drop you like a sack of hammers and vanish over the pettiest shit in most cases.

I've run into two (presumably separate with tehir icons/IDs) NobodyImportants here and both were very much stubborn and neurotic and refused to budge or listen to anyone or anything. So there's your story. They're not a team player and these are games about interacting with others on multiple levels of seriousness.

Alright here's the deal. Take your fantasy. Dunk it filth. Layer on some grit. See this picture? Pick a fight with a dragon without a company of soldiers by your side and see what happens. You need help from the town watch? You a guild member and a citizen of the town? Pffft don't waste my time again or it'll be into the stockade with you. Rotten fruit? Why would they only throw soft things, you're getting rocks and dead rats. Damn right we're breaking out the disease rules.

Wait I left the super's book on the table. I didn't mean we'd be using that. That'd be silly, it'd break the entire setting. Everyone already made characters? Well fine, but I'm still running my dark gritty fantasy game. Oh wait no I'm not. Join me for super fantasy fantasy supers I'm bad at naming things. Looking for a fill-in. Theme is aquatic in nature. Players have just gotten off of a ship that is searching for another missing ship for a kingdom. You can be a sailor who was stranded, a merfolk from the zendikar splat, or one of the original crew who somehow found himself off the ship. I allow everything from the core stuff including Zendikar, POTA, etc. The only thing I've banned is the Luck Feat because it's unnecessary.

I play with people face to face. Quit projecting your faggot burgers self onto others just because you refuse to believe that other people actually know how to talk without sweaty palms.

My beef with voice chat is due to the fact that it's little to no actual interaction. In person I can see someone's facial expressions, they even show body language, and we can get a feel for their attitude, which believe it or not robot, is something human beings like being able to notice. Video is a joke too.

At least in text I can submerge myself in getting to play with their character and not the player themselves, considering most nerds who play these games aren't very charismatic their self. On top of that a lot of people who like voice chat games are huge attention whores who love to scream into the mic.
>>49259375

I've never used it myself. I remember back when I was in college it looked rad since I had just moved to a different state than my gaming group. But in the end I became a college slacker and didn't do much gaming at all, and the gaming I did was with other slackers, games fell apart quickly.
>>
>>49259798

Yeah, because you know, people never get distracted with stupid fucking shit during voice games or drop out, or are caught up with number crunching for combat.

If your players are constantly disappearing in text then you let them know that you aren't going to deal with that shit and for them to cut it out.
>>
>>49259944
I'm with this guy. Face-to-face > Text > VOIP.

I have two main reasons I like text over voice. I have a little son running around so there can be a shout at unexpected moments when I'm trying to say something (or my wife could come up not realizing I'm talking into the mic) and I just can't understand accents over the internet. In person I can piece it together usually. But online I get lost, an issue with me, not with people with different accents.
>>
>>49259312
>>49259944

I'm pretty good at both really, I was just talking in general. In text you have a moment to think about what you're going to say, rather than being expected to do it right then and there on the fly.

>social out when you do text

You do and you don't. The very nature of roleplaying is social by nature, so I don't completely agree with you. I actually disagree with you more than anything, but I can see where you're coming from. In text you can be very social with other players, it just so happens that you typically focus more on the character rather than the player. In voice/person you have the tendency to get off topic, which can be fine!

That's just in my experience.

As a note to people applying to this game, I will not be available this weekend for chatting, because I'm venturing into nointernetsville. I'll do my best to get back to you on Monday, sorry to those of you I've left hanging.

We're still looking for 1 more player, and the game is now confirmed as a text game.

You niggers don't have either one, or you wouldn't be in gamefinder

The real reason you hate eachother is you're cutting one another's potential game pool in half.

I understand you can't read. But my primary method of communicating was still in person, I just didn't do phones. Are you just pretending to be retarded or are you just straight up retarded?

In person > text > VOIP

Back when I was extremely broke and renting a shitty apartment with no internet/wifi nearby to use with my PC, I had to play this way with my online tabletop group using my phone's data and Skype. It actually went pretty well, the guys rolled for me and there wasn't nearly any problems with feedback or the like. Did the ones you experience just have shitty phones or something? Hell, mine's a cheap phone-card smartphone, and the mic on it is decent.
>>
>>49288553

If you have a decent sized screen you can just load the non-mobile version of the site and play. You just cant move your token I think. It's a pain in the ass but it's useful as a GM when you wanna make notes and roll and whatnot.
>>
>>49288934
Unfortunately that was back when my group was still using a separate program for rolling dice, OpenRPG. (we migrated to Roll20 not long after I got better off), so I couldn't use the program on my phone.

The war on the Spinward Front is going very poorly for the Severan Dominate. A lack of resources and men has turned the war against the Imperium of Man into a long and agonizing series of crushing defeats.
Slowly but surely, the secessionists are being wiped out.
Severus the Thirteenth is desperate to win, his resolve slowly sapping away. He has called for aid from Xenos, from renegade factions of the Mechanicus, and is even contemplating an alliance with the forces of Chaos itself.
Despite all of his planning, his aid may come from someone that even he would never have expected...

Renegade Imperial Knights.

The Duke's spymaster resolved on his own to make contact with the least reputable Freeblades he possibly could, beseeching them to join the fight against the Imperium.
The dishonourable rogues, Chaos-tainted exiles, and bitter outcasts of the Knight Worlds near the Calixis Sector all received the word that they would be hailed as heroes by the entire Dominate so long as they would enter the service of the Duke.

Some of them were even dumb or desperate enough to accept.

This game will use Only War, along with Edeldorf's [Chivalry Intensifies] fan-made supplement. Also, no, it's not really true to the lore (Knights probably wouldn't ever betray the Imperium like that), but it's mostly an excuse to run pic related in 40k.

GM Looking for Players for a Dungeon World game with some minor modifications.

Time varies (see below). English voice chat, Skype, and Roll20 account required.

Contact Info: loksvassago on Skype (should show as Jon with the rooster from Hotline Miami as the avatar).

Additional Info:
Lords of Hafenstadt is a Dungeon World campaign set in a remote colony town bordering an unexplored wilderness in a late medieval dark fantasy setting.

It is based on the West Marches campaign concept, which means that you decide when to play, what to do, and who's coming along. It emphasizes exploration and challenging gameplay.

I'd like to talk to you over voice a bit to introduce the plot elements and talk about the game, before anything else.
