What inspires you to either run or play RPGs /tg/?
Where would you realistically like to host a game for atmosphere?
Pic related is a 4' tall castle built in the catacombs under Paris. Would make for a killer session.
Post pics of your inspiration sources.

I mostly world-build, campaigns that I host are kind of a sideproduct of it and allow me to actually flesh out the settings even more when I see players poking holes in and exploring it.
My main source of inspiration are these:

The rest is mostly historical and anthropological research on East-European, Middle-East and Central Asian settings. I'm particularly fascinated by steppe and high-altitude environments and cultures.
For actual storylines, I borrow quite a lot from Thousand and One Nights and some short stories by a name called Borges.

Is it just me, or is talking anything creative just really difficult around /tg/. With the exception of storythreads, which seem to work fine, discussions about creativity, inspiration world-building threads and the like don't really work.

Yep, people will sometimes talk about how they like their elves or similar things, but they won't talk much about why they're attracted to certain parts of the hobby/game for whatever reason.
For me I draw inspiration from old structures and environments, weather it's visiting an old wooden grain mill on a river, or exploring abandoned buildings, or places that look like medieval ruins, being in these places make me want to run games.

I second that. Visiting ruins inspire the fuck out of me. Also seeing images of reconstructions of old temples and palaces. RL places can be good too. You see something like pic related and start to think what might live in there.
Might as well post landscape and such.
Stories and characters.
Also just the general idea of the setting.
By this point I roleplay to improve my general story-telling chops as well as game design.

I've always toyed with the idea of running a game in the Armenian room Cathedral of Learning in PGH.
I'll post a few from my folder if anyone is following.
