Oh, Ok. I know the one you mean now. However, to answer the question of "Is the Hound Alive? still "probably not" but whether that means that part of Sandor's life (or whatever name he took to bury his old life) or if he's really really dead, the Hound is no more.

As it happens I always really liked Duncan. He's kind of a meat head, but it's a good, solid chunk of meat for all that.

He's also amusing because he's like a more reputable version of the Knight from Chaucer. Yeah, he's seeking his fortune by travelling about, and yeah, he's rough around the edges and shabby, but by god, he really is the image of chivalry. It's like Martin took the best from the Knight and the Squire and went with that. He's got the ideals and he's polite, but he's also not a squirrely lightweight like the Squire.

(Egg is like the Squire if the Squire was more of a little wise ass, I guess. He's very courtly and polished if he wants to be, but again, weasily little wiseass. Not a bad kid, but a rascal.)

I guess you could also say he's a bit like Gawain, for that matter too. While he makes mistakes, and is fallible, he's also extremely diligent in setting those mistakes wrong, to the point of death if that is what is required. I feel as if given a scenario where the only way out was to bend the neck for an Axe, he would do the same thing as Gawain.

But then, Gawain and the Green Knight era Arthurian legend always was way more fun and vibrant than later stuff anyways. Arthur is FUN in Gawain and the Green Knight. People who haven't read it would find Renley or Robert Baratheon at his best to be good comparisons. A Knight's Knight, very likable, life of the party, enjoys dancing and fighting and hunting, quite the guy.

I feel like some of the later literature does a disservice to the way he was perceived and imagined originally, and it's just plain unfair to him as a literary figure. Making him a stiff old cuckold to Lancelot is not fair.
