No, nothing.

Not even a combi weapon, what the fuck use is a weapon you can only shoot once?

I mean, unless you design your units about fluff instead of MAX OPTIMISATION then just do whatever desu.

Any Blood Angel players who can help me figure out how to expand this collection? With the possibility of Blood Angels getting a decurion, I figured it was time to help my sister actually make a decent list. So I was wondering what models she should buy in the future to expand her army in a way that'll help her now and possibly when the next supplement hits.
She has a Librarian, Astorath, Sanguinor, 2 Death Companies, Jump Chaplain (played as Lemartes), Sanguinary Guard, 20+ Tactical Marines and a Rhino.
I figure she needs more transports, some Dreads and Dante and/or Mephiston, but other than that I have no clue what to recommend to her.
>>
>>49193139
off the top of my head, at least, the warrior/wych elite upgrade uses that term (may be upgraded to true born, changing their battlefield role to elites)
>>
>>49193086
I don't collect either army, but I was really looking forward to the Space Wolf vs Thousand Sons grudge match. I hope that they're just holding on to it to coincide with the HH Inferno release. although I doubt it.

Based on advice from last thread, here's my updated KT:

SoB KT 200pts

Celestians x5
Flamer
>Specialist - Infiltrate
Heavy Flamer
>Specialist - Exploit Weakness
Superior w/ Bolt Pistol and Chainsword

Dominions x5
Melta x3
>Specialist - Eagle Eye
Melta
>Leader
Veteran Superior w/ Bolter and Bolt Pistol

I went with Celestians because they have Furious Charge, Ld 9, and 2 attacks base for only 5 points more than a battle sisters equivalent.
>>
>>49193195
It's shit. Either the Land Raiders are blowing up transports, in which case they aren't getting the Possessed into combat, or they're getting the Possessed into combat, where they'll be forced to attack transports and promptly get shot to death by the occupants.

Don't worry though, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell you that the new formations are excellent and you'll be fine.
>>
>>49193086

That's the kind of off the wall bullshit that the Thousand Sons need! How do you feel about having your soul bound to a suit of armor, son?

I want to pick one start collecting box to play some kill team games at LGS and paint the minis with my Age of Smegma paints . Which one should I buy? Tau and Space Wolves seem to be a decent choice with pretty varied miniatures pool in their sets.

1500 pt tourney coming up at my lgs at the end of the month. First one for me. Maybe ITC or Nova rules. Lot's of hard hitters because I live in Virginia. Been getting my ass handed to me by the tau tourney guy at the shop for practice.

1500 Grey Knights with allies

NSF formation:
Brother Captain, psycannon - 170

5 Terminators, hammer, psycannon, meltabombs - 200

1 Dreadknight, greatsword, h. pyscannon, h incinerator, personal teleporter - 225
1 Dreadknight, greatsword, h. pyscannon, h incinerator, personal teleporter - 225

IK Oathsworn Detachment:
1 Knight Warden - 375

Librarius Conclave Formation:
Chief Librarian Tigurius - 165
Librarian, m1, force axe, stormbolter - 70
Librarian, m1, force axe, stormbolter - 70

1500/1500

Idea is to have 4 different units/threats that are hard to kill for the average unit, as well as dish out firepower. Will struggle hardcore vs msu armies on objectives though.

The free boon every turn working with the roll twice benefit is neat, and should be fun for casual games. Honestly the Sons need something. I'd argue that the only reason people like them is what they were like pre-heresy and their paint scheme.

All they do is get jobbed by the Wolves with an unclear recruitment or replenishment method. Magnus is getting rekt by BL and with him gone maybe even Magnus-posting will die out (One can hope). Ahriman is still stuck almost doing something worthwhile I guess, but retcons so who knows.

The Rubric was supposed to be a power up for those that survived it yet theres no sense of how scary it should be to come across one of these guys.

I started playing in 2nd Edition, when Chaos was one faction. Chaos Space Marines, Daemons, and even the Lost and the Damned were all contained in one book. A daemon prince was a true nightmare on the tabletop. Heck, I could even include stuff from Imperial army Codexes for a points cost markup.

My question is this: Is Chaos in a better place now than it was back then? Can they do more? Or are they more limited?

One or two threads ago we discussed it, basically here's your list:

Militarum Tempestus Scions

Troops - Scions - 100
2x Plasma Gun

Troops - Scions - 100
2x Plasma Gun

Give your plasma gunners specialist things to make them not die (preferred enemy, master crafted, feel no pain).

You could also run a platoon of them out of the IG book if you really wanted a Tempestor, but having one extra wound, WS 4, Ld 9 may or may not be worth it.

depends on what you want from him

If yo have a 5 man team with melta a combi melta is good, to have a better chance to do damage. A Meltabomb might be handy, too and not too expensive.

If you have a 5 man team with a missile launcher in the backfield, ever point for upgrades is wasted, vet-sarge- shooting weapon etc.

If you want a midfield unit to clear out enemy not-so-strong infantry or support your heavier hitters a powermaul might be good, to get some S6 attacks which are useful against vehicles (almost all have rear armor 10). It might also be a good idea to 'intercept' a challenge for an ic especially by a model that hits before the ic does

normally I would suggest to save on points as they wont get into melee with anything where a weapon would make a difference.
Meltabomb is always something to consider, coz cheaps and you get a second grenade attack as its one grenade per unit and per type
>>
>>49194191

In the previous thread, someone was talking about running Crimson Slaughter with the Traitor's hate Possessed Detachment (1 Daemon Prince + 3-5 Possessed), and then taking Malefic Daemonology to give the Possessed 2++ (3++ from one of the Possessed mutations which you get automatically, then Cursed Earth).
As long as you bear in mind that the effect of the formation happens in the Fight sub-phase, (meaning no beast movement UNLESS you roll that mutation in the movement phase anyway), it works. It's probably a better idea to make the Daemon Prince a psyker for Daemonology instead of taking a sorcerer for it; it saves points, and the possessed have to be within 12" of the DP for the formation to work anyway.

This is assuming you can field any formation with a Daemon Prince in it as Crimson Slaughter in the first place, as it's contentious as to whether or not you can - on one hand, Renegades of the Dark Millenium says "No Models *can have* VotLW", and Daemon Princes/every special character (also Thousand Sons, but nobody mentions them because they're so bad nobody cares just kill me now) come with it; on the other hand Daemonheart specifically says that it can't be taken by Daemon Princes, which would only make sense if you could take DP's in a Crimson Slaughter force anyway.
It's a grey enough area that you could argue for it with good grounds, in my opinion, and only the most anal cunts would throw a fit over it in the first place.
Though having said that, if you're fielding 2++ possessed, you may want to be ready for some grumbling from your opponent, in either a tournament or casual setting.
I reckon the formation is balanced though, even with Cursed Earth shenanigans. It relies on positioning, Possessed have no grenades, are expensive, are strictly a close combat unit, and you can always just shoot the fucking daemon prince anyway, same way you deal with Tyranid synapse.
TL;DR Crimson Slaughter + Traitor's Hate Possessed Formation + Cursed Earth = Probably Yes

Normally the answer is imperial guard or be a coward, however in killteam the IG box is bad as the Leman Russ aint allowed. (33 armor combined, pffft, Russ has 37)

demons would allow you to use them in both aos and 40k

A HSVG will put out more MEQ wounds up to 24" than a plasma gun can at up to 12". HSVG also works tremendously better against every other kind of infantry. It's not about what number it wounds on; it's about putting out 4 shots every turn at 24".

Sure, it's not as great against vehicles, but there's only 1 option of a Relentless specialist anyways, so there's no reason not to take it and do the rest as re-rolling plasma.

Yes there is. The "not being spiky loyalists" reason. Same reason CSM don't get any of the Legion stuff loyalists get. Because that crap was around when all legions were loyal and thus only loyalists should get to use them while traitors can get the bare minimum and then fill the rest with daemon engines and daemons.

Question: What ways can CSM get 3+ invuln saves? I don't see storm shields in their codex (apologies if that triggers another Chaos Rage Session), but I'm almost certain they have a way to.

The reason for asking os to know if that + Mark of Tzeentch means they have a (relatively) easy way to get 2++
>>
So uh, I have an 800 point linebreaker gake against nids coming up this week for our campaign and im pondering what would work best
So far the only thing im certain im fielding is 4 tactical squads with flamers because fuck gaunts, and maybe a predator to support them or a dual lascannon razorback to fuck up her big ass hive tyrant
That leaves round about 300-400 odd to work with and im wondering what would work best.
On the drawing board is jam a bunch of lascannon devastators in a high building and paste her tyrant /termigaunts on the other side of the table or spam dreads and some termis to deep strike in and get the linebreaker points.

To be fair, it has been a very very bad weekend. Holiday plus new release for a shit codex that a certian shitposter loves is basically a perfect storm. By this time next week it'll be back down to normal levels of shitposting, so slightly less than other major boards.

Moreover, I don't think /pol/'s stupid shit about calling trump the emperor has done all that much damage to here. Don't get me wrong, it's stupid and anyone who does it is a major faggot, but most /pol/fags who come here to shitpost would be doing it regardless of that. And frankly, /v/ 40k threads are suprisingly good, esspecialy for a board like /v/.

>>
>>49195332
The only way to get a 3++ is to take a sigil of corruption (4++) and the mark of tzeentch for +1 Invuln. The only way to do this is on IC like a chaos lord or sorcerer, and for them marks are 15 points, so for a 3++ it ends up being 40 points (15 for MoT + 25 for Sigil).

If you can take Daemon Princes in any Crimson Slaughter list, those rules cannot be literal.
If "Can Have" is literal, it would mean that nothing in a finished CS list would have the VotLW special rule; Renegades of the Dark Millenium says nothing about a model losing VotLW if it comes with it, so if Daemonheart didn't have the restriction for Daemon Princes the clear interpretation would be that DP's/Special characters/Thousand Sons cannot be taken with CS.
I understand why "no model can have" can be interpreted as "if they have VotLW in their profile, they lose it", but it isn't explicit, and if that were the case then Thousand Sons would lose VotLW when other cult troops could take it, which makes no sense from a fluff perspective and is weird enough to be contentious IMO.
On the other hand, If models with VotLW in their profile can be fielded (as Daemonheart implies), but models without it can't be upgraded to have it except cult troops, then the exact wording should be "Models can't BE GIVEN the VotLW special rule" (especially as that's what the previous incarnation of the CS supplement was).
The rules interaction of Renegades of the Dark Millenium and Daemonheart with Daemon Princes cannot be literal without also being contentious; it has to be subjective. You can call me a rules lawyer, but I've had to argue this point with other people in real life during games many, many times, so I'm just making a point of providing my perspective and reasoning so other people can make a better informed judgement if this ever comes up for them. I don't give a shit if someone else fields a DP in CS.
Personally, I'd settle for losing VotLW on all my models as a compromise to a stubborn opponent if it meant we could just play the game, I'm not interested in fielding 2++ possessed anyway, but I personally think it makes more sense if DP's can be taken in CS lists, and they keep VotLW.
All of this could be fixed by GW with, literally, 1 line in an FAQ or errata.

Does Path to Glory and Favored Scions make the Chaos Warband worth taking (over the more economic Lost and Damned)?
Does the Raptor Talon make the Dimensional Key worth taking?

While it's not the War Convocation solution I still think CSM need their detachment doesn't look like complete shit.
Still requires a fuck ton of point in near-useless or horrendously prices Chaos Lords however. And other assorted compulsory characters.

As a last note cool about getting Hate vs Space Marines two different ways, instead of say, preferred enemy.

why the hell do GW seem to think giving hatred to CSM is actually a useful thing to do? they have the easiest access to it of any army out there, so many different ways and they just keep stacking it on
>>
When I was a teen I smashed the window of a hobby store and stole three shopping-cart loads of solo metal models and boxes.

The guy was sleeping on the floor in the shop with a baseball bath for weeks and had his bored elderly family "hang around" during day hours, even when it was packed with nerds.

He grew gray/white hairs and sold the store location to some shitty computer cafe chain that got infested by Somalians and immigrant dregs that would roam around the entrance and do 'rap battles' when they weren't yelling indoors about who killed them in DotA.

Don't you roll separately for the different units of raptors? It could theoretically be useful for if you don't make all your reserve rolls.

I wouldn't recommend using a Start Collecting for Kill Team, but if you must;

>Space Marines
Pretty bad, Space Marines are best with Vanguard/Sternguard in KT
>Space Wolves
Better, but if you're doing it it's for the cavalry and you'll want (need, right?) more than 3 models.
>Blood Angels
Gives you no Assault Troops in an army of Assault Troops. Pass.
>Chaos Space Marines
Pass. Regular Marines aren't great, spiky or no.
>Khorne Daemons
Pretty solid, gives you plenty of options that are all decent
>Nurgle Daemons
Also pretty solid, they aren't great but gives you lots of options.
>Necrons
Decent, but it'll be bland. Better of getting something different.
>Orks
Hahahahaha
All joking aside, Orks are good in KT, but this doesn't play to their strengths (unless you want to fill the board with boyz)
>Nids
If you like Gargoyles, go for it. But no one likes Gargoyles, T3 and 6+ dies laughably fast
>Eldar
Scatbikes. You're a fuck, but you're a fuck that wins.
>Deldar
Just worse Scatbikes. Pass.
>Guard
Doesn't play to their strengths or give you 66 Conscripts. Pass
>Stormtroopers
Interesting option, not top tier but gives you a lot to play around with. Like the army itself, (in fluff at least) when a smart commander takes charge it's deadly, otherwise it's dead.
>Skitarii
Doesn't give 20 Vanguard or Infiltrators, just go buy some Peltasts and shoot without LOS.
>Tau.... Ew
Pretty great, either Fire Warriors or Crisis Suits are decent, not bad.

In summary, if you want to win then Eldar or Tau (wow, never heard that before)

If you want an army start, any SM, Daemons, Crons or Skitarii are best while still good in KT.

Any better players have critiques? I've only played as KDK, Necrons and SM in KT, so I could have missed something

>>49195733
Fair. If you actually make use that means you have a unit that's coming in turn 3+ min. Not ideal anyway. Especially in competitive play that rarely seems to get to turn 5 anyway.
The formation is still really good as I see it, however.

Just thought about it more, Crimson Slaughter not being able to field Thousand Sons isn't completely stupid from a fluff perspective as Crimson Slaughter is a mostly Khorne-aligned warband. But then, Mannon was a Lord of Change that influenced them, and some of the CS worship Tzeentch so that doesn't make sense either.
This is all making me really fired up at GW for not reading their own damn rules and not giving FAQ's and Errata rulings to things that are genuinely ambiguous.

Seems to me like this makes them good as surgical strike teams, continuing the Termicide approach, possibly deep-striking a 5-man unit with a heavy flamer next to a few objective holders or hordes.

Could these rules mean that a unit could drop in with combo-meltas, destroy a transport in their first round of shooting and immediately after use their next round of shooting on the unit that was inside? If the transport and the unit inside count as separate, the Termies could be useful at chipping away at an HQ or some bodyguards.
>>
>>49195840
Grey Knights are meh. Interceptors do well vs 'elite' kill teams like marines, but won't do well vs high model kill teams or multiple vehicles.
>>
>>49195780
You're welcome. It's a bit iffy to read some of the text, but the rules bit should be simple enough.

It's basically an introduction game type for new players. The rules specifically state they're suppose to be modified and altered, but for enjoyment and fairness, not to curbstomp opponents. So, just cause it says 200 points, doesn't mean it's 100% stuck on that.

I was talking Start Collectings, but Grey Knights have long interested me. I played a game against all Interceptors w/ Halberds, and it was pretty interesting. I feel like KT isn't for them, the army is based on 2+ everywhere and Psychic Brotherhoods, so they got BTFO'd a lot. Interceptors and Purifiers with the Psyker Rule Changes (not sure of the details, just know brotherhood does something now) may be viable, need to play to see.

Ok so where are the formations that use crusader squads or bolster our CTs? Where are the vows for the Emperor's Champion? Where are our chapter specific relics? I ultimately settled on GK because at the time Halberds were OP, of course now their psychic powers make them OP so it still works out.

I like it, its part of making my army MY army. But I generally just stick with a simple kitbash. Not to fount of green stuff, so if I can skip it, I will. Using parts from other companies seems like a waste for me, as I have dealt with GW for about 17 years now and have a pretty big collection of bitz lying around.

I already shaped the snek heads to what they are in pic after someone told me too (they were worse before), but didn't change anything else besides smoothing some moldlines out. I primed them, but then tried to strip because the primer went on rough, but the primer wouldn't come off with super clean, so I just tried to recoat and now they are based with silver.

Long story short, they look meh now and I don't feel like finishing them because I plan on using tigurius and power armored libbys for the conclave. And I have a Imperial knight to convert and build...

I LOVE my GKs but it feels like they're lacking SOMETHING to be decently GOOD but not broken. Feels like aside from being jacks of all trades, masters of none, you only get 1 chance to do what you need to before your game starts to fall apart.
Sure, they can dominate a psyker phase, but refer to the 1 chance thing above. You get 1 chance to get your powers off or you're screwed because there's little to no re-roll manipulation in the codex.

Chaos space marines have the veterans of the long war changed to

Fearless, cause fear, and hatred imperium. Points stay the same

Chaos space marines have bolter, BP and ccw as standard for no increase in points

Chaos marine champ loses access to armoury and instead gets cheaper melee weapon options to reflect less ws and attacks

All chaos icons no prevent scatter on deep strike

I lose. Straight up. My Draigo Wing can't both take AND defend objectives, only 1 or the other. I want to run a Bloodthirster.
I want this Bloodthirster to spread fire, death, and damnation onto as many enemies as possible.

that's why I plan on running this list >>49193390 after getting dunked by tourney players at my lgs. Just upgrade the brother captain to GM and add Draigo for 1850 games. I'm sure to still get destroyed by the good tourney lists (especially in full on maelstrom missions), but I hope it does better than my old pure GK list.

Tigurius gives a 75% chance to get the power you want, and the conclave almost guarentees powers to go off. This makes your terminators (which I find usually get shot to death) durable. with invis, and/or endurance veil of time if your lucky enough to get them.

The knight on paper, will hopefully fill the gaps.

Pinesol pine scent NOT lemen scent.

There's something in the pinescented pinesol that strips the paint right off.

It also eats the glue so the models come apart easily as well, which is typically not a bad thing.

Plus it makes your shit smell good.

Forgot to add, I beat a fairly strong Dark Angels list with a variant of this with no knight, but 5 more terminators and 5 interceptors. I found the deathstar too big and unwieldy with 10 terminators plus everything else, and he ignored it for the most part (They only got into CC once).

He was running a deathwing deep strike list with Belial, 10 black knights with plasma, a landraider crusader with grav vets inside, and a plasma vengeance. Lots of rerolling assault cannons and AP 2 stuff to wreck me, but I pulled through barely. He was winning 9-7 until I psychic shrieked a terrified Belial and killed him outright. It was glorious bro's, absolutely glorious.

I guess what I learned is, GK can work, but you need to fill their gaps and make sure the deathstar you run isn't too unwieldy that they will just ignore it.

I'm running this at 2k, tends to work pretty well for being on the offensive. Really struggles against Tau who castle up on their objectives though:

Draigo

Librarian w/Mastery 3 and Domina Liber Daemonica for virtually all the GK powers

Officio Assassinorum Detachment - Vindicare
Officio Assassinorum Detachment - Eversor

10 Paladins w/ Apothecary, 2x Hammers rest halberds and 4x Psycannons

Terminator Squad w/Halberds a Daemon Hammer and a Psycannon

2x Nemesis Dreadknight w/H. Psycannon, Greatsword, Teleporter

I usually split the paladins into 2 squads: 1 with all 4 psycannons and the Libby, the other with Draigo and the Apothecary to punch faces.

I've typically got the 2 deadknights and the Eversor screaming up the board. Vindicare always manages to cause enough trouble that people regret ignoring his 1 shot a turn. The Eversor doesn't always make it into combat but when he does it's a boatload of fun.
>>

access to greater rewards, exalted rewards (you want the book for possible 3++). kdk on the other hand hardly has an armory for daemons
>>
>>49198312
ohh, i see. is there a standard for how many of each reward you get or is it a thing you do with "extra points left over?"
>>
>>49198283
Sanding, heat guns and chemical strippers are your options for removing enamel. It's probably not worth the time and effort involved.
>>
>>49198252
Are you serious? Read the fucking Daemon codex.

Bloodthirster with 2 rolls on Greater rewards and 1 lesser reward roll is nearly always fucking amazing.

Re-roll his 5++, amorbane + fleshbane, 4+ feel no pain, +1 wounds and it will not die, greater etherblade for +1 strength. All amazing choices to make your bloodthirster better than the pre-built ones.
>>
>>49198283
Try a blowdrier.

Dip them in water so they conduct heat better and more evenly.

Then hit them with a blow drier then wipe off the enamel.

This ONLY works on the old metal/pewter models. Do this to a finecast model and you'll have a chaos spawn.

The tau tourney guy there runs 2 stormsurges, 2 necron canoptek harvests, and 2 lonely suits for troop choices, with a ethereal. It's brutal. Rewards are rolls, except for exalted but don't take those on a thirster.

You can take up to 50 points of reward rolls.

Greater's are 20pts
Lesser are 10.

Trick is to take 2 greater rolls because they have the best rewards.

and 1 lesser roll. Spend the lesser roll trying to get a shooting attack, if you don't get one you can discard your roll to snag an etherblade for +1 attack and mastercrafted since you'll be armed with 2 specialist weapons.

Essentially I don't want it to exsist. Riptides should be the largest non-vehicle walkers in the codex for crunch/common sense reasons, and should be the largest mech suit in the army for fluff reasons.

>Be wrestling season
>Incredibly irritable because I'm on weight control
>which means all I have for lunch every day is a slimfast shake
>See nerdy sophomore giggling with his friends around his locker as I open my slimfast shake
>go over there because maybe they have a playboy or something
>they're all looking at some model (3rd edition space marine converted as a captain)
>What's that faggot?
>nerdy friends bolt
>nerdy kid starts stammering about super humans and aliens and shit while pulling the 3ED SM codex from his locker
>I shove him against the lockers and he falls on his ass
>pour my slimfast on his head
>toss the can into his locker
>Incredibly pissed off because he made me waste my meagre lunch
>grab the codex and model out of his hands and stomp off

I got to reading the codex later and it was cool as shit. Eventually picked up the rulebook and fell in love with the setting and the story. Got into the game later the next year.

I still have his captain as the captain of my SM force to this day. It's like I won him in a contest or something.

As a casual player I like some of the new stuff that's coming with traitor's hate. 3 obj sec termie squads in 3 obj sec land raiders will be fun.

I think the way to make casual CSM work is to bring slightly ridiculous lists to every session. You don't feel bad for losing because your list was silly anyway and pulling off extreme underdog wins is extra sweet.

I hope your terminators didn't skip leg day.

Any recommendations for a Tyranid killteam? Trying to play it for the first time with some friends, and I have no idea what I'm in for.

They are totally inflexible which is the problem. No bikes and no cheap transports for the Terms. Short range and you always have to go to your enemy, who's more than happy most of the time to keep you at arms length. Too easy to counter them and they don't have any good answers to counter within the army itself.

Thanks. Can you post pics of the veterans of the legion and gribblies formations?

What paint looks like this? Vallejo makes a paint called Magenta Fluo which is pretty close, but not quite perfect.

You're two editions late.

Buy Wyverns, Vendettas and Vultures.

Giant slow walkers that bolt themselves to the floor. Perfect for the swift killing blow.

>there still is a high chance they deepstrike out of charge range
Max scatter is 12", max charge range is 12". You have to be really risky with how you drop them, but it could work. Or if you're allying daemons and get a banner close by, you can mitigate their deep strike at least a little bit as long as you use Warp Talons and not Raptors. It's not a point-and-click win button, but it seems pretty strong.

If you do the math, you'll see even in the open with no cover or any other save other than 5+ armour, the two guns perform identically. Apply any other save (who puts their guardsmen in the open with no cover?), the storm bolter just loses. And the stubber has 12" more range.
