/a/ thinks this would trigger you fa/tg/uys. Does it?
>>
That's hilarious. It reminds me a bit of that bodyguard with artificial legs in Kingsman, except obviously that was much cooler.

Nah, just switch the filename to "Tome of Battle.webm" and we'll call it a day.

My friend played a giant snake whose only useful combat ability was to trip people. This is just a video of a munchkin trying to make his shitty class useful.
>>
Seems awesome to me. Then again, I'm a big fan of Legends of the Wulin.
>>
The animation fan in me is more offended than the fa/tg/uy. I have no problem with flashy acrobatic combat but that was just boring style of substance for the sake of drawing extravagant shit.

Such a retarded anime. Why practice a style that only works if you're fighting on soft dirt, have superhuman levels of strength/endurance, and would prefer having the balance of a stick instead of two legs.

Depends on what game we're playing. If it's something that's intended to be realistic then obviously it'd be out of place, but if someone wanted to pull this shit off in something more cinematic like high-fantasy or wuxia then I'd go out my way to let 'em.

Same with shit like firing two pistols at once or wearing impractical armor. If the setting is stylised enough, let it fly.
>>
>>49137291
>Cute as fuck magical girl wrecking someone in hand to hand.

Oh christ what is this? I need more.
>>
I don't even mind it being unrealistic, we play fantasy and sci-fi it'll be dumb to just copy real life stuff, we have to make new stuff that seems like it would happen in response to the new fantastical elements inteoduced. But holy shit is the stuff in the OP garbage, the fucking sword bitch routinely points her weapons away from her target, and only due to bad anime time does she manage to not take twice as long to swing as her opponent.
>>
>>49137645
It's from the final episode of Happiness Charge Precure. Precure's mostly generic mahou shoujo stuff, but the fights are usually pretty fucking great. If you've ever wondered where Dragon Ball Super's budget went, it went to Precure.

Pretty Cure.

it's a by-the-books magical girl show, but instead of sparkles or edgy subversions most of the budget goes into fight scenes.

Most anime annoys me. And not because it's anime, but most anime shit is just stupid.

I have no problem with beserker and other stuff like that. But most of the rest of the guys that seems either too childish, too sexualized, or worse, both.
>>

That makes me moist. But then, I'm the type of guy who likes gimmicks that don't really work. I'm basically one of the guys >>49136996 is talking about, except I suck at actually doing it.

>>49137291

>>
>>49136927
Fuck these slow downs, just give me the action like it's supposed to happen. My brain is able to perceive what's happening and if not, I will want to rewatch it. Sword of the Stranger was great for that reason.
>>
>>49136927
The entire scene looks pretty dumb, from character design to animation to choreography, but I am not particularly offended, no.

>>49137291
Holy crap, this is Pretty Cure?
I had lost all interest when it turned into generic-as-fuck Mahou Shoujo after a very interesting and atypical first season, but this makes me think there might still be some merit to it.
>>
>>49138526
To be honest with you, Pretty Cure is nothing but generic-as-fuck shit with great fight scenes. A couple seasons try to have more of a story, but they ultimately fail to deliver anything I'd consider satisfying. If you can stomach that, then I'd say pick it up again, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.
>>
>>49138602
Guess I can always just look for a fight scene compilation.
>>
Horrible anime with zero story and zero logical application of strategy, fighting styles, or realism should stay in /a/ and never leave.
>>
>>49136927

> 22+ Dex

Nothing to be mad about. Its clearly a fighting style designed for fighting in uneven terrain (so you only need very small points of usable battlefield and can easily dominate anyone trying to fight a normal 2D battle) that doubles as being so unconventional that only another high tier fighter can adapt to it fast enough to not get wrecked in the first encounter.

As long as that's not the only way she knows how to fight, she's good.

Guns tend to have recoil and improper stance can cause the gun to either fly out of your hands, hit you in the face, or both.

Firing two pistols at the same time basically doubles the chances of injury while lessening your accuracy as well.
>>
>>49141458
It really depends on the caliber of the gun. I mean yes guns have a kick, but unless you are completely unprepared it shouldn't fly out of your hand or it you in the face. Lots of people have shot guns one handed and not hurt themselves. You are right about lost accuracy but if you can make that up by putting out more bullets it may be worth it. Heck you can justify it with magic guns that have infinite ammo that way you don't have to throw your guns away and get a new pair, or stop and spend time reloading your guns after you fired.
>>

>>
>>49141733

>>
>>49141755

>>
>>49141755
It would be "possible", but it would be a terrible way to fight that hampers you more than anything else by A; leaving you with only one blade to strike or guard with when you could have two, and B; being incredibly labour-intensive; your foe would just have to rope-a-dope you until you get tired of doing handstands and all the blood starts to pool in your head.

Or just shoot you full of arrows/bolts/bullets/magical lightning because you can't hold a shield.

Don't have this debate; this is a non-starter.
>>
>>49141609
But /a/ is just 100% cancershit.
>>
>>49138118
That's my biggest issue with anime. I used to be majorly into it in high school, but I grew out of it. When I came back to it a few years ago, I realized that half of the shit coming out today is full of ridiculously huge tits for no reason in the middle of an otherwise cool setting, or an endless stream of contrived and easily misunderstood sexy-looking coincidences.

There's a few really great ones out there, like AnoHana or Galaxy Express 999, but really I've found that the older 70's-80's anime are the only ones that interest me any more. Classic Gundam is damn good, Macross is awesome if a bit cheesy, Galaxy Express is pure sci-fi bullshit on top of a really awesome story, etc. It's rare than an anime these days takes itself seriously and doesn't throw in a huge titted loli to draw in the waifufags instead of just trying to make a good show.

>>49138602
Heartcatch Precure was actually pretty damn good. It had a story that hit a bit harder than some of the rest, even though the style looks girlier than most of them. The final fight scene in that series is fucking amazing if nothing else.
>>
>>49136927
(Without reading the rest of the thread)

Does this scream Exalted to anyone else?
>>
>>49141893
I disagree.
You are not taking into account the element of surprise that comes with such a weird style and how fast-paced it is.
>>
>>49136927
This scene would have been a lot better if she was just doing normal sword dancing instead of whatever the hell you want to call this retarded sword-stilt action
>>
>>49142039
The fast pace is largely a function of the stylistic choices of the anime.

In reality your arms are innately weaker than your legs, and less suited to locomotion; you balance poorly on them, and you expose yourself to the distinct possibility of over-rotating your arm, potentially injuring yourself embarrasingly; not to mention that all those spinning somersault-attacks have a distinct possibility of landing on your head and breaking your neck, and even if you land them will likely leave you disoriented and open to simply being shot or punctured with spear in the half-second it takes to rebalance and recover from the impact of the landing.

I understand you must have come down from /a/ with the intent of triggering folks by insisting that this is "realistic" to test the hypothesis that we're a bunch of easily triggered neckbeardy type fellas.

But I'm quite content to let you carry on believing whatever you like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTHu-tucQGU

Here, have a thematically appropriate tune.

>>49142123
>open to simply being shot or punctured with spear
Before that, anyone with a solid shield can knock them off their single point of contact with the ground, with almost no hope of proper recovery.

Makes sense as some kind of weird ceremonial sword dance, I guess.
>>
>>49137291
The fuck is this, magical girl foreplay?
>>
>>49142211
Really, there are so many things wrong with it that complaining about it is sort of futile isn't it?

Now as a ceremonial sword-dance I think it would be pretty neato.

The Arab and Highland real life sword dances always seem to lack a certain dynamism to me.

But well, doing Northern Soul with an unsheathed Tulwar sounds like a recipie for losing a foot.
>>
>>49137291

Without knowing the story, the anime design is definitely better.

I like the patterns on the clothes of the LN version, but looks like just another geniric LN main girl. Comes in blazing to drag the protagonist out of his boring world and has wacky fights, but is quickly eclipsed by MC-kun's super special awesomeness and becomes nothing but another tick on waifu stereotypes to sell to sad people and horny teens.

Anime version looks like an adult that holds a position of authority, with the military uniform and saber. In the promotional art I have seen the character didn't get degraded to generic fanservice like in the second pic, so there might be chance that this media actually tries to entertain with story.

The fact that it's anime takes a lot away from the troll factor. I mean, I'm not going into it with anything other than the lowest expectations and even then, this isn't the dumbest anime shit I've seen.
>characters repeatedly starting, stopping, and holding conversation mid-battle
>true extras just standing there in the background
>character jumping about a foot off the ground and hovering for 2-3 seconds
>swords clashing which somehow keeps one of the characters airborne
>complete lack of urgency in what is supposed to be a fight to the death
Honestly, the only thing here I haven't seen is the walking on the swords, but that's pretty tame by anime standards.
Honestly, it didn't really evoke much from me. It's undeniably stupid for sure, but not really rage inducing as it sticks to the same old cliches.
>>
>>49136927

There's more to fight scenes than pure spectacle. A good fight scene is a good scene, period. It relates to the plot, and the goals and struggles of the characters involved. A scene that does nothing to inform the narrative or the arcs of the characters is a shitty scene, and fight scenes are no exception.
>>
>>49136927
not really
>>
>>49150553

Swords would snap if you put that much lateral pressure on their tips like that though.
>>
>>49150752
They are, but anime generally abuses it and takes it to the next level. Like this scene has one woman talking while the other is launching herself in the air, and then the other one answers while waiting for gravity to arbitrarily take effect.
Live action you'll get Princess Bride or Star Wars style conversation. They'll make a series of physical jabs, exchange some verbal jabs, back to physical. Same concept but doesn't completely break pacing.
>>49150951
Yes, but "by anime standards" that barely registers in terms of physics abuse.
>>
>>49148144
I'm going to need drawfaggotry of Dual Gurkhawielding.

>>
>>49136927
Suspension of disbelief is a silly thing. I look at that fight with amusement and can easily choose to ignore most of the things that violate the laws of physics (or otherwise require magic) since this is just an anime fight and obviously the rule of cool is in effect (and possibly magic.)

...But.

...I am bothered that her cloak does not fall down when she keeps standing upside down. Obviously this should be a minor nitpick considering the stunts she pulls and if the cloak did fall it would blind her and/or look silly. But simply having her discard the cloak before starting the fight (she could even throw it away dramatically) would have fixed that problem. Either way, it does at least look cool.

Sexualizing something is, by itself, bad. Either the thing is naturally sexy, which is fine, or it's not.

Sexualized implies that the thing was first conceived and then made sexy by adding stuff outside the original concept.

Sexy sauron is a good example. But it's like that with everything too. You want a motherly figure? How about a mother with huge tits? You want a young girl? How about a young girl that's actually older than 18 (be it 19 or 5000 years old) and constantly put in sexual situations? You want horses? How about replace all horses with highschool girls? (actual thing).

You can easily tell when it fits and when it doesnt. And it doesnt fit everywhere.
>>
>>49141506
You know what's a quicker way to kill someone then firing a whole bunch of bullets at them? Firing one bullet. Bullets aren't very big. Beyond point blank range it's entirely possible to empty your entire magazine and completely miss a human sized target if you don't aim. Using two guns kills things slower, less efficiently, and less effectively than using one gun. There's no benefit to using them.
>>
>>49152711

Because you could achieve that volume with one gun firing faster and more accurately.

If you need accuracy use a pistol, add a seond one and you've destroyed the point of using the pistol

If you need volume use an uzi, if you couldn't kill it with one uzi you probably can't kill it with two (not to mention how hard as fuck that gun is to control)

There's never a reason to use a second gun when you can use a weapon more suited to the situation which is always considering we have a gun for every occasion.

You generally had to fan old style revolvers anyway, so that would lock you out of a second gun, not to mention how awkward reloading a revolver would be while trying to hold another. Going further back many soldiers carried multiple flintlocks but they were too slow to reload not to put as much accuracy into the shot as possible.

Not to mention that she sweats more and more as the fight goes on. I really need more scenes of heroes taking a few hits and getting tired. That's the best part about the Netflix Daredevil to me; that and the lack of incredibly jarring jump cuts that Game of Thrones has helped make an industry standard. Of course, I also just want to see more scenes in general of women getting hit, especially in a fight. I get so pissed when a movie or show contrives a way to have a woman not get hit even when she should be. What better way to show that women are the equals of men in every way and should be treated the exact same than to treat all women, even in fiction, like porcelain dolls?

Notice how the normal chick spends all her time just staring at the handstand-fighter, instead of fucking stabbing her. It works with the same logic spinning does, if one character is doing something really cool the viewer will forget what the other character is doing, even if the cool thing is leaving a fucking huge opening that the other character should be exploiting.
Also, it takes the handstand-fighter like three fucking shots to swing her sword. She would either have no control of it, and be able to stay standing, or would be able to attack accurately and fall over all the time, and either way you're leaving yourself open as shit.

Short version is alien noise virus that decays any organic matter they come into direct contact with.
And then there's this undercover agency that develops artifacts through studying those aliens that allow their wielders to resonate in the same frequency as the alien allowing them to safely collide with them, and to resonate in their frequency they've gotta sing. So they take highschool girls because they're the ones whose body doesnt reject the change in frequency as hard, and give them a power suit, kungfu, sword, shooting and idol training depending on their artifact.

All For One happened a few weeks ago in the manga. All Might went all out.

All Might got his shit wrecked, lost his powers, but still managed to drop All For One... temporarily. Oh, and he found out that the villain they'd been hunting earlier was his teacher's, the former holder of One For All, child. Possibly his, too.

Overall, the fight was pretty fucking hype.

If you want it animated... Give it six months, maybe?
>>
>>49183742

the pacing of the anime means we'll likely see UNITED STATES OF SMASH late next year or the year after that, as the upcoming season is likely going to end on Stain, and then the season after that will end on the training camp (so you have things ending shortly after Deku does his one for all 1000000% smash).

so if it goes 4 seasons, that's when you'll see that animated (though MHA is getting a lot of push at the moment so it might be able to stay around that long)
>>
>>49183917
I'm surprised and a little disappointed at how much push it's getting so early. Like, it's a great series, but I'm baffled at how it got an anime announced when it wasn't even a year old at the time. It seems like it's all moving too fast.

Admittedly, this is also a series where filler arcs revolving around career training and school exercises would make sense.

Did he just kill a dude without even drawing his sword?

Anime is so bad at grounding characters. It's weird because how your weight pushes into the ground is one of the most important things in martial arts, but anime tries so hard to avoid it at all costs.
>>
>>49136927
Let's presume that she weighs 50 kilos and doesn't have super human strength. Being able to support your full weight with only your hands is a considerable feat of strength, let alone supporting it on one or two weapon handles.

Trying to move like this, let alone fighting while doing that ridiculous stilt-esque dance, would be extremely tiring and you would be balanced extremely precariously the entire time, not to mention that you would be straining your neck the entire time to look at your opponent. Burying those blades deep enough into that ground to get a solid grip would require a lot of strength and stamina too.

But it's anime, where everyone can ignore gravity and possesses superhuman strength and agility. I believe that the rule of cool applies here too.

This is clearly not a team of professionals. These are some guys being paid to do a thing they don't know how to do. And no you are not a professional just because someone pays you to be there.

UBW was pretty decent, actually. The most recent one, that is. It's got the same or better production values and action, an equally meaningful story (though that meaning is pretty different), and doesn't nearly so often make me embarrassed to share it with my friends on account of things like the child-rape-by-insects that doesn't have a payoff until a movie that still hasn't been made, and even then is pretty gratuitously grimdark.
>>
>>49197824
I think that's a problem with most animation in general. Animators seem to have a hard time balancing speed and weight.
>>
>>49198128
The thing to keep in mind though, and which OP's webm suspiciously cuts off, is that she has an air elemental strapped to her back. Which is the only reason she is able to do any of her feats. As when Yatori(red haired girl) kills the elemental the other girl completely loses the ability to do any of her previous moves.

But then again Op's webm cuts too early to see any of that.
>>
>>49197064
That's sort of his "thing", flashbacks show you why.

Don't spoil it actually, just watch it; it's pretty good.

The general's fight when he pulls out the spear is the best one imo.

>>49197008
Not a medical expert or nothing, but I don't think necks are supposed to wind up like that...
>>
>>49136927
Nah. This is clearly intended to be unrealistic and wacky. What triggers me is when something is mostly well-researched (or pretending to be) and then starts throwing in silly shit for no reason. For example "Narcos" is a pretty solid show that's clearly done a decent amount of research, but a bunch of the weapons on it are anachronistic in a way that's really annoying.

This is fantastic! I love that the mooks actually use their numbers from time to time.

Not really, it's super obvious she's using some crazy magic because her cape is always covering her ass despite all that movement. It's literally gravity defying, and so is she. I'd like it better if that was an obvious and blatant skill she was exploiting the fuck out of, but she isn't so I'll just not watch it.

Pretty sure his vertebra got snapped.
>>
>>49199488

With this >>49198397 context the cape thing is almost justified.

Crazy animu moves/names ok.

Why the sparks off a wood floor though?

Sword of the Stranger is a fantastic movie. Its somewhere in my top 5 next to Broken Trail and Four Feathers.

>a straight thrust is slower than rotating your whole body from a standstill

It's Anime, I guess? Would've been anticlimatic if she got stuck like a pig three moves into the fight, no?

Magic? She IS a dragon, y'know.
>>
>>49136927
That would be pretty cool if the choreography wasn't fucking abysmal.

The only thing that bothers me here is him carrying her like a briefcase.

You would if they were revolvers. Modern magazine fed guns? Not so much but there are plenty of accounts of skilled gunmen using two pistols at once.
