When the race is literally described as cat people, their ears should very much be expected to be somewhat in the realm of following some basic anatomy, even if its anime. The ears are meant to be actual things they use to listen to the world with, not a symbol representing "cat".

Dogs are pack based hierarchical creatures. Do it right, and they see you as the pack leader. Part of why little dogs are so shit, is that the women who own them spoil them so they start thinking they're the alpha.

Cats... well, they're a lot harder to train, because they're smaller creatures, social but less hierarchical. The house cat is also lower on the food chain than the stock dogs are derived from, so they've some neurosis remaining from being just high enough to have to hunt for a living, but an easy meal for anything bigger than them.

Both have been domesticated for a long time, but while dogs were generally bred for a purpose, (Herding other animals, Guard duty, hunting aids) cats generally only had pest control as their purpose, something that ferrets actually beat them at. (And the European Ferret has been domesticated for a long, long time too.)

Cats do have individual personalities, but they lean more to the aloof distant nature. And yeah, quite a few definately have a "You have petted me exactly 1 time to many, have claws!" reaction. Others are fairly affectionate, and even a few have been trained to do tricks like dogs.

Reminder that cat eyes relay information much faster than humans, but all of it is about movement. That's why cats focus on things that don't seem to be there, a small hair catching the light drifting through the air is more interesting than bright colors or a stationary source of noise.

Cats cannot focus on objects a certain distance close to them. Their whiskers have muscles to move them, and cats rely on their whiskers moving forwards as sensors to feel how close something is in relation to them.

Adult cats do not naturally meow. The meow is a kitten sound for their mother. Cats meow to humans because cat brains resolve why their owner will pet them, talk to them, snuggle with them, and feed them as "because mommy". Cats adjust the meow until they hit the sound that causes human attention they are looking for, meaning two cats will have a totally different "feed me" meow. In addition, if "feed me" gets them more attention than "pet me", they will just make "feed me" meows leading owners to think they dislike their food when all they want is to be petted, or let out, or whatever other behavior they really want. The noise cats make to each other when not fighting is actually a very low chittering humans usually don't hear. A humanoid cat meowing at a human is like a human saying "goo goo gaga" at an Elf.
