I've run it!
And I would have had a lot of fun too, if a problem player hadn't ruined it.

I was able to run it as a sandbox with no prep required (aside from familiarizing myself with everything beforehand). There was not need for rails. There was always weird, wonderful stuff for the PC's to encounter no matter where they went or what they did.

I just had some asshole in the group, was the only problem.

Besides constantly complaining about how underpowered her character is when she had the highest overall ability scores and probably the most powerful character (an elf) in the party because she wasn't absolutely perfect at everything?

Well, unlike most players who start with D&D, she actually started learning RPG's with GM'less narrative systems. So she actually came into it expecting to be able to grab narrative control away from the GM.
She also came into this Alice and Wonderland + Dracula + D&D setting with her own ideas of what vampires should be based on "Science!"

And she just behaved herself like a spoiled, demanding cunt with a shitty attitude all through the game. Fucking 25 year old woman with worse behavior than my elementary school students.

The worst part though is that the other players defended her because "she's going through a rough time with her job!"

She was just a brat. That's the bottom line.

I play with a teacher, he's pretty based and, though I've never taken part in any of his campaigns, apparently does bretty gud.

Yeah, aside from that one person it was pretty fun. And I've had good OSR experiences since then.

Most of the people I play with are teachers. You have to develop communication skills and self censorship in this line of work, and those skills tend to translate to RP'ing pretty well.

I hope you learned your lesson and now use random gear tables based on class for starting characters

Buying equipment is the lengthiest and most tedious part of OSR chargen, even with decent players
