New leak from DSP: Psionics Augmented: Psychic Warriors: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dX4UYdtwTQKhY71Q45IHLtcu193zq1ZO5jHQ5_PnTl8/edit

Did people collectively forget about the Psicrystal Augmented playtest as well?

https://docs.google.com/document/d/14xiRRju0zPb62Q2Q3Jqpqr8tosELq8I5kJcFm5YilLo/edit#

It got all of two posts about it when it first appeared.
>>
>>48990329
No, we just didn't mentioning because the playtest content is shit and psicrystals are shit.
>>
>>48990288
What are some jokes for galorion?

Here's what came up in play.

"It is extremely easy to beat Rovagug... in Jenga."
>>
>>48990288
I've never liked angels. I prefer to play a good character that does good yet tells angels and gods to screw off. Not necessarily a jerk about it, but unwilling to bend to any particular divine agenda.
>>
Playing an old man unsworn shaman. Going for massive versatility. Any ideas for good feats/items?
>>
>>48990366

A centaur walks into an inn and the innkeeper says, why the long face? The innkeeper is dead now...
>>
>>48990367

I like angels because once in a while it's refreshing to meet a powerful outsider that doesn't want to suck my soul out through my duck.
>>
>>48990493
No, an angel will just ask you to "donate" it to the cause of good.

Are angels who want to hold hands and do other lewd things because they love you OK though?
>>
>>48990360
Psicrystals are great.
Scouting utility that doesn't penalize you when they get accidentally killed, ignores magical darkness and silence, a few very neat combos with certain powers, and a second voice when roleplaying.
Also unlike familiars, available to any psionic class (need to take a trait for some) and multiclassing between psionic classes doesn't stunt their progression.

The Psicrystal augmented material is kinda underwhelming though, yeah. But fixing starts with feedback.
>>
>>48990542

Yesssss, those are the absolute best.

Nothing quite so pure as a Paladin loving the celestial in his sword.
>>
>>48990493
>Never played Monstergirl Quest
>>
>>48990542
That's what the unseen servant spell is for. They do whatever you say, they can't talk, and if your dm doesn't allow that, there's not much he can say to prevent mage hand from working.

Basically, the whole reason I play a wizard is to find the most insane usage of spells ever. My dm let me make a spell to bestow sentience and the ability to move to tiny pebbles. I them proceeded to create thousands of them and fill a bag of holding with them. When I ran out of ideas I'd empty the bag.

So, This day on Arodus 25th, Sheyln herself came down to Magnimar and Married off half the party to each other after they beseeched her for her blessing.

So i basically gave them the effects of Heroes' Feast for a full week.

Balanced?
>>
>>48990677
They possessed only rudimentary intelligence and I convinced them I was there god. I made the first of my creations there leader and bestowed him the holy name of GEOffrey. I only kept them in the bag for transport, they had a whole biology I forget about but ya.

Probably shouldn't have used an actual deity at a level where Heroes' Feast is still relevant.
>>
>>48990748

I think we need a little more information, like the party members and what caused them to get married by a goddess.

Sounds balanced though, Heroes' Feast is good but it's not overpowered.

Humans on golarain have very little sexual dimorphism it seems.

So when the Cloud domain's Thundercloud states

> This power functions as fog cloud except that creatures inside the cloud are deafened and take 2d6 points of electricity damage each round from the flashes of thunder and lightning.

Is that in addition to what fog cloud does, or is that instead of what fog cloud usually does?
>>
>>48990837

See, I would actually expect a high-Fort class to be less good for being impregnated. Most miscarriages are the result of an immune response on a hair trigger, a less powerful immune system is preferable for bringing the child to term.
>>
>>48990776

Well basically, Long Story Short, They're kinda celebrities at the moment in the Hereafter.

They became the first mortals to overcome the most degenerative condition in the world of Soul Sundering. Where their soul is split apart and mungled in such a way where they cant even pass on when they die. Its complete cessation of existence. Not even a recyling through the Maelstrom into a new soul. just poof, nothing.

In addtion to that, they've done a number of good things for Celestials in Sheyln's employ. So when they decided to get married and asked for a blessing from her. she decided to do the ceremony herself.

However she did screw up. It was originally two pairs getting married. When she actually just married them as a poly-amorous group.
>>
>>48990837
>What class is the best for being impregnated? I assume Oracle or perhaps Warpriest for solid Fort, good Wisdom and access to divine spells.
Depends on the baby. If it's a normal child I'd say it doesn't make much difference unless your dm is a dick and makes you roll for possible death by childbirth. If it's some sort of zombie baby or alien chest burster. I'd suggest that next time you cast protection from pregnancy or maybe an enchanted sheath.

>>
>>48990861
Observing spells with similar language like Acid Fog, Cloudkill, Euphoric Cloud, Stinking Cloud and Cloud of Seasickness, you are correct - the Thundercloud ability simply adds the damage and deafening effect to the existing cloud. It should be noted that it states that 'this power functions as fog cloud', meaning it has every attribute thereof including range, duration, action required to activate the ability, and so forth as the spell, and also 'creatures inside the cloud' imply that there is still in fact a cloud as per the Fog Cloud spell, meaning it does limit visibility as well.

>>48993016
BSD/Kapenia has two big problems though

>Bladed Scarves are shit for no reason whatsoever, and the archetype does nothing to make them worth using
>It requires you to be unarmored/lightly armored, but doesn't trade out medium or heavy armor proficiencies
>>
>>48992409
Okay.

>Foreword
I don't think this adds anything to the product. I feel like it just wastes page space. It isn't really criticism, just a biased opinion on the nature of such things.

>Halo Knight
The name is a bit on the nose, but whatever.

>Armor proficiency
You should reduce page space by simply stating that Halo Knights lose shield proficiency. Also, why don't Psychic Warriors in general have heavy armor proficiency? For that matter, why do they only have 3/4 BAB? They're meant to be on the front lines for the most part anyway, all limiting their armor choice does is force them to be more MAD because they need to invest in DEX early on.

>Psionic Animus
Handy I guess. Also, there is a grammatical error. "by spending 2 power point". Needs an S. This isn't a very efficient way to generate animus, though. Not enough to be relied upon. A 1st-level Psychic Warrior only has 1PP. You can't even use this three times a day until 4th level or so. At least you don't need huge amounts of Animus, one per round will probably work fine for a while.

>Psychic Halo
The wording here is really awful.
>which grants 1 point of Wisdom bonus (if any) per halo knight level as a shield bonus to his AC.
Ugh. Word spaghetti. Try something like
>which grants a shield bonus to his AC equal to his Wisdom modifier or class level, whichever is lower.
Also, you should make it a Force effect so it can block incorporeal groping. Martials have a difficult time with that, and this has a holy feel to it. Consider a Ghost Touch ability for his weapon also.

>Warrior's path
That caveat is entirely so you can also take Pathwalker, isn't it?

>Anima Skills
No more combat feats? Why? Psychic Warriors aren't competent blasters, they don't have enough PP per day.

>Anima Flare
So now I can blast, but only every 3 Animus. The ability doesn't say what ability score the psi-like abilities key their DCs off of, and as written the ML used is the minimum, as normal for PLAs. This is useless.
>>
>>48993189

>Animus Empowerment
It would be cooler if you spent animus to use this, could use it on allies' weapons, it had a short duration, and it scaled faster. As-is, it's very mediocre. +2 by 12th level isn't much to write home about. It's good for TWF PsyWars though, they don't have to pay as much for their competence. The energy damage isn't really worth it since PsyWars are 3/4 BAB and STR/DEX MAD so they struggle a little with accuracy. At least it stacks with metaphysical weapon. That's a +2 bonus at 1st level.

>Durable Halo
*/- isn't appropriate syntax, just write damage reduction/- instead. Besides that, good ability. Invulnerable Rager can suck a psicrystal.

>Empowered Halation
Some issues with this one. Firstly, the RAW of this is that the halo itself, not the PsyWar, gains the energy resistance, which is weird because it isn't an object. Secondly, the halo doesn't provide any energy resistance in the first place, so there's nothing to improve. Thirdly, it doesn't state what kind of energy it resists. You should probably specify that it's the active energy type or something. That would make more sense. The DR boost is handy though.

>Kinetic Halo
Garbage. You have to burn your already limited powers known on these powers, and at the time you take this skill you can't use more than one unless you retrain, and you can't use them efficiently because you have no PP unless you take Anima Flare. Why not just lump this together with Anima Flare once you fix what's wrong with it too? It might be worth using then. Alternatively, just give the PsyWar this whole thing, then make the Anima Skills offer status conditions you can add based on the element you're using. That would be much better than this.
>>
>>48993206

>Palisade Wall
After 4th level and 18 Wisdom what the fuck is the point of this. Tower Shields aren't useful for cover because you spend actions to use it. Why does this exist? It's totally redundant. I could see taking it at 1st level or something but you'd just retrain out of it. It seems like a waste of space to me since it'd be a little too much at 1st level, you only need 16 AC or so early on to survive, this plus the DEX and probably hide armor to breastplate in the first 3 levels is too much, and then it's useless.

>Restorative Halo

This literally says X feet. The ability is otherwise fine because it isn't a drain on your actions (besides focus recovery), but what the fuck is that X supposed to be. 5 feet? 5 feet per level? 30 feet? 10,000 leagues under the sea? I get that it's a playtest and you don't have everything set in stone yet, but you're missing a pretty important hunk of rock there.

Also, you have disclaimers about compatibility everywhere. It would be simpler to specify at the beginning which abilities replace what and so forth.

>Animus Manifestation
Okay, so, you've removed combat feats from the list of bonus feats you can take but added metapsionic ones. But Anima Skills also compete for them. Then you also need Psionic Meditation for the focus expenditure of metapsionic feats and other class features, but also things like Power Attack for the first couple of rounds where you don't have animus. If you're trying to go raw blaster, you also can't use Anima Flare because you can't use metapsionic feats with psi-like abilities, so this is a non-synergistic ability, meaning you're paying the base AND augmentation costs out of your itty bitty PP pool, OR you're paying nothing but only get the base power effect that becomes useless like 3 levels later. These abilities are cool, why would you make them all not work together while also sacrificing the 'Knight' part of Halo Knight by making him bad at frontlining? He has no Concen. Boost!
>>
>>48993175
At least it stacks with Eldritch Scion, giving you reason to pump Cha.
>>
>>48993212

>Improved Psychic Halo
Oh, NOW it grants Energy Resistance. 9th level is way too late for this to come online, Resistance 10 is negligible because unlike physical damage, energy damage tends to come in giant fiery balls of death rather than a whole bunch of smaller attacks that add up. The DR/- is going to save you from a pouncing Dire Lion, this isn't going to save you from that dragon's Acid Breath. Also, why do I need all of them active at once? I'd rather have Resist 20 to my active energy type than 10 to a bunch of them. At least then if I get hit or the Wizard identifies the thing in front of us as a Gelatinous Cube I can switch it to Acid resistance so I don't die as fast. Unrelated, but if you want this class to be a blaster they need the Kineticist's ability to manifest powers of whatever energy type they want in spite of the active element because otherwise you'll end up having to choose between a damage type that works and energy resistance that's helpful which sucks.

Uncanny Dodge is only helpful if your GM likes to send NPC rogues at you, and if he does, he's kind of a dick. Dick protection is good, this is a good part of this feature.

>Animus Overchannel
12th level? Seriously? And I can't even use Animus to power it or avoid the damage or literally anything related to animus at all? And if I already have Overchannel this does jack shit for me? Awful. Just awful. Any blaster worth his collection of crispy kobolds had this probably at 1st or 3rd level. Oh, and I get the equivalent of Talented at 18th! Wow! How amazingly unhelpful. The Wizard is off making demiplanes and I can shoot my laser beam without killing myself.
>>
>>48993229

>Blazing Halation
3/day abilities suck. No. Bad. Something else. Also it doesn't say what damage type it deals to attackers, untyped damage is a big no-no. The not dying for 3 animus is cool until you realize most things attack multiple times per round at 15th level so it's almost useless. Also, it's 15th level! Why!? Why not have it give you 1/day at 3rd level and +1/day at every 3rd level so it scales better? Or, better yet, give it a PP cost that increases with the duration and no daily limit of its own? The fuck?

>Psionic Halation Endurance
Whatever, it's a capstone, I won't even comment on it because it's a waste of time. You're 20th level, you might as well just write down 'You Win D&D' because basically nobody plays to 20th at all. The Wizard won D&D 3 levels ago anyway.

Should I continue? I don't know if I even want to read the other three archetypes if they're like this one.
>>
>>48993215
True, but it still needs stuff nudged around to make it something worth taking. Most of its arcana are pretty lackluster, for example.

What would be a good thing to trade medium and heavy armor for, in your opinion? Would poaching the Quarterstaff archetype's AC bonus work, or should it be something else entirely? Is making the elasticity reach arcana into a "as long as you have 1 point" or "whenever the scarf is enhanced with your arcane pool" deal a good idea?
>>
>>48993286
Maybe just keep it as is, except replace Diminished Spellcasting with the replacement to armor prof, that way you still have your casting to aid you.

>>48993215
Or, you can instead stack it with Bladebound, and have your Scarf as your Black Blade
>>
>>48993286
I'm surprised the archetype doesn't involve Silk to Steel at all. At least as far as I recall. And it's a neat spell.
>>
>>48993189
>Foreword
All books get this.
Doesn't need to be in the playtest maybe, but they're not going to remove it.

>Armor proficiency
They can't rewrite the base class, unfortunately. 3/4 BAB is because it's a 6/9 manifester, something closer to the psionic fighter is a Soulknife.

>That caveat is entirely so you can also take Pathwalker, isn't it?
They're incompatible last I checked. It's futureproofing, you see that wording in a lot of their stuff ever since the infamous paizo ruling that made a lot of archetypes not stack.

>>48993238
>Should I continue? I don't know if I even want to read the other three archetypes if they're like this one.

The archetypes in this playtest have two different writers and the style difference is pretty pronounced.

>Xp is awarded an abstract manner in my game. Wholly based off of RP as opposed to defeating X level Y encounters you will be awarded xp by conforming to your character's strengths, flaws, and quirks. It will really pay to be descriptive and in character at all times. "I move to the door." vs "I shamble up to the door wincing with every step on my injured leg"

Do good DMs do this? What should I make for a campaign where the DM insists on this sort of thing?
>>
>>48993361
Archetype writing that is done well analyzes the base class first, determines what it offers, and then modifies it in such a way that it isn't an entirely new class, but uses some new features in a way that allows old features to do something new without losing the identity of the class.

Unfortunately when you get to classes like Bard and Alchemist who have 20+ archetypes it's easy to tell what's wrong - they don't have clearly defined class identities.

That being said, I don't think any of these archetypes are entirely clear on what they want to do and/or when they are clear, it's executed poorly.
>>
>>48993406
Be descriptive?
>>
>>48993406
You should make nothing because that's really awful, you shouldn't get more XP for unnecessary word padding. Talking about how you're opening every single door in detail would just take forever.

Is Dervish Defender the best option for a TWF INT-based initiator?
The damage is mediocre compared to the other available INT classes, but the rest of the package is so damn good...
Thoughts?
>>
>>48993406
Treats for good RP >>>>>>>> punishment for bad RP.
And that system seems like it loads so many treats on that it's essentially punishing those who didn't go to acting classes.
>>
>>48993406
Personally, my GM has decided that he doesn't want to have to deal with people constantly asking how much XP we got. So instead he started using Milestones instead

However, he does give us occasional good bits of loot or other goodies when we roleplay well, so it all balances out.
>>
>>48993437
Dervish Defender is pretty damn comfy desu. The only regrettable thing is you can't dual wield scimitars without effortless lace investment or something.
>>
>>48993473
>>48993460
>>48993427
>>48993425

It's worth pointing out that the DM is unusually aggressive in the rest of his post and mentions on more than one occasion he wants "mature" players and "this is not a game for newcomers."

Which just makes me imagine how fucking descriptive he wants me to get when my character's touching Arueshalae's butt and insinuating he wants to mount that.
>>
>>48993473
>>48993406
Good GM's tell you to eat a dick if you ask about XP and then tell you when you've levelled up and never mention it otherwise. It's a background system for a reason.
>>
>>48993406
Good GMs ignore all the xp math and level up the whole party at a time at appropriate points, yes.
Encourages less murderhoboing because you no longer need to kill stuff in battle to get your reward.

However, this GM's system seems awful, because not only does he keep the super fiddly exp math, he's now awarding it individually per character with extremely subjective judgement.

Ask him how he's going to track and score this stuff.
How much exp do you get for describing shambling up to a door with an injured leg? How does he tell when you've roleplayed enough to level up, and how much does he expect his mood on that day to affect party exp?
>>
How do Scroll work? For example, if I'm a level 9 Sorcerer wanting to use Wizard's Teleportation Scroll...

So what you're saying is it shouldn't have diminished casting, and should otherwise just drop medium and heavy armor for no actual trade? It's not a bad idea, it just feels... Underwhelming. Maybe I'm spoiled by the vigilante though.

As long as your Caster Level is equal to or higher than the Caster Level of the spell on the scroll, and as long as the spell on the scroll is on the Sorcerer/Wizard spell list, you can use them without any sort of check.

Things tend to go poorly when you try to use a scroll not on your class spell list or one with a higher CL than yours, but as a Sorcerer, if you invest in Use Magic Device you'll be able to use most scrolls regardless of source anyway.

From the context, no - it states 'if a check is required', which is a very strong indication that it is referring to Stealth checks to hide.

I whipped up a quick homebrew of feats that are consolidated and scaled. It's best combined with the Feat Tax rules (that are also linked in the document) for best effect. If a target has both concealment and mirror images, what's the order of operations?

I'd imagine the order would be:
>Roll the attack
>Check if it hits AC at all
>Check if it passes concealment
>Check if it passes mirror image
>If it didn't hit AC but missed by 5 or less, check concealment and if it passes destroy a mirror image figment
Yeah?
>>
>>48994083

That seems logical to me.
>>
>>48994083
I'd do mirror image first, to see which "you" the attack was targeting, then roll concealment to see if you lose that image.
>>
>>48994128
It isn't, you don't lose an image on a miss of 5 or less without concealment, why should concealment make it easier to hit your images?
>>
>>48994083
If I were your enemy.. I would just close my eyes when I attack to entirely negate mirror image and displacement...

>>
Beguiler question:
I've spotted a feat called "Multiplying Illusions."
It made me really excited at first glance, but then I noticed it says "spells that create variable amounts of illusions."
...isn't Mirror Image the only one that does that?
What else does this feat affect?
>>
>>48994248
That chance wildly fluctuates depending on AC and tohit values.
Still, yes, it would be better to go for the 50% miss chance, regardless.
>>
>>48994200

In that case, I guess a better idea is spamming Magic Missile.
>>
>>48994253
I don't know of anything else.

Maybe it's part of some product line with other variable numbers of illusions?
>>
>>48994253
Couldn't Shadow Conjuration create variable amounts of illusions?
>>
>>48994282
I skimmed the small list of new spells it adds, and there don't seem to be any.
I guess it's for Shadow Conjuration spells that mimic stuff like Summon Monster?
Like, Shadow Conjuration (Summon Monster III) could summon 1d3 2nd-level monsters, and Multiplying Illusions would ensure that even if you roll a 1 on that d3 you'll get all 3 of 'em eventually.
Seems like a shit feat, now that I think about it. If it wasn't metamagic it'd be alright.

Okay, so there was Iya, the tiefling bolt ace that the entire night I wondered if it would be in bad taste to mock for having a crossbow instead of a bow (I'm a longbow spec'd trickshot sniper) who seemed to hate every moment that wasn't getting money.

There was also Lene, the very 'team orientated' fey that seemed to want to work as a peace keeper to my hayseed of a character, the other hot blonde in the party.

I'm building my first Warlord, going to go Scarlet Throne and Golden Lion mostly. In the long run is it better go to Strength focused or Dexterity focused for this kind of build?
>>
>>48996998
Strength will give you better damage and two feats free.
Dex gives better AC, reflex and initiative.

Both Scarlet Throne and Golden Lion are quite neutral on str vs dex.
>>
>>48997065
Yeah, was definitely going to go with Strength. What feats are good for a one handed Warlord? I'm thinking Quick Draw and Combat Reflexes to get into Landsknecht later on.
>>
>>48997146
Well, Power Attack is basically free damage with maneuvers that use a skill check in place of an attack roll. if you're einhanding, most of your damage will be from your maneuvers, so you can't go wrong with Extra Readied Maneuvers - the longer you can go without using a Gambit, the better off you are. You want an odd number of maneuvers readied so that you can use a strike when you Gambit so the Gambit goes along easier - Flanker's Gambit is probably the easiest one here, pair it with something that WILL hit - and recover maneuvers every 3rd round or so.

on an average roll you would do less damage than a maximized
you can make the argument that on a high roll you do more damage
>>
>>48998025
Empowered and Maximized interact in a strange way.

You do empower first, then you do maximize.

So in practice, you roll for 10d6 damage (let's say you get the average 35), then you calculate how much extra damage you get from empower x1.5 (+17 damage for this example)

Then you calculate for maximize (60 damage), and add the previous extra damage on top.

So you'll end up doing ~77 damage
>>
>>48998201
No, you get 15d6, then maximize that.
>>
>>48998486
You are dumb.

From Maximize Spell:
>An empowered, maximized spell gains the separate benefits of each feat: the maximum result plus half the normally rolled result.
>>
>>48998556
>10d6
>Normal roll
>5d6
>Half the normal roll
Makes you think, don't it?
>>
>>48998025
>>48998201
>>48998486
the way it works is simple.

Maximize takes the maximum potential value of the basic rolls, and makes it deal that much. therefore, 10d6 would deal 60 damage.

Empower would increase the numbers by 50%, so that 10d6 fireball would instead deal 5d6.

If both were applied to the same fireball, it would have the base dice of the spell maximized, but not the empowered part, leaving you with 5d6+60 damage.
>>

>>

Wrongo, boyo. It'd be 15d6 maximized.
>>
>>48998567
I think he's talking about the
>plus half the normally rolled result
bit

Which does, by RAW, mean the Empowered damage is not maximized.

Technically, by that wording, you would roll 10d6, halve it, and then add 60, to get empowered+maximized.

>>
>>48998901
I'm pretty sure they have a level of personal power as well, so that wouldn't do the trick.
>>
>>48998881
Can't kill gods, can't even fight them unless the DM allows you to.

Personally I think a max-level high-mythic character should at least be able to make a god sweat or sit up and take notice, based on how demon lords and similar are able to fight losing battles against full gods in lore. But again, up to the DM.
>>
>>48998881
They don't and never will have game statistics, and if you get uppity a DM Penis Insert monster (Achaekek) shows up to to kill you.

It's kinda boring.
>>
>>48998925
Demon lords are canonically dangerous to deities, but only when those deities do dumb shit like personally enter the realm of those demon lords in their physical form. When they're off in the fucking wherever they live, their own domain, they're plot devices only.
>>
>>48998979
Oh, but deities can kill each other freely and no deity is stronger than the Outer Gods (Azathoth & etc.) or more powerful than Rovagug (though they were able to trap him).

Not explicitly stated anywhere in PF material to my knowledge. In D&D it's only true for FR(and only after Ao threw a fit during the Age of Troubles, or whatever the system transition event was called) and there doesn't seem to be any reason to assume it's true for Golarion.

>>48999115
>falling neckdeep in frigid waters after stepping on thin ice.
chill touch? (1d6 nonlethal cold + str penalty)
>falling into an acid pit trap
that already exists in the traps page in the pfsrd (acid damage and reflex DC based off alchemist/trapper/wizard level)

>having a gunpowder barrel explode next to them
probably on par with a fireball spell

>door mimic

>>
>>48999128
I have a question, if you somehow remove a one of the god from existence, what happens to all the belief that is floating around afterwards?
>>
>>48999115
Exploding powderkegs have listed damage and it's not a lot. Like, 5d6 I think.

The acid pit trap you could look at the spell for inspiration.

The door mimic would just attack them I think. Same stats as a normal mimic.

And as for the water... hm. Taking damage from cold due to exposure causes Fatigue. Dropping into ice water I can see being cranked up to exhaustion-level. Check the environmental rules.

You could be a lot more sinister and make the party paranoid without resorting to "just mimics"

The statue is a gargoyle, golem, zombie

The floor rug, coat, banner and carpet are all cloakers

The candle-lit chandelier is hiding several tiny fire elementals

The doorknocker is a trap

The ever expansive hallway is an illusory field. You'll never reach the end. oh, and there's a slime cube behind you. run.

There's suddenly two 'moons'. One of them is actually a solar.

The garden is ents.

Those shadows between the gaps in the windows are actually fetchlings or shades in hiding

Am I mistaken or isn't this class considered absolute garbage by most everyone?
>>
>>48999319
Kineticist is by far the worst PC class in the game, unless your group is so ass-backwards that you're still forced to play Core Monk or Core Rogue with no other content.

It doesn't do respectable damage, it lacks proper utility, it's squishy, it has no unique tricks, and any of the """exploits""" used to make it even vaguely respectable have been removed.

It's a class that had several thousand posts of feedback with well-made mathematical analysis, carefully written explanations, and a remarkable amount of restrained to not just scream at how terrible it was. That was the playtest. All the feedback was ignored, content was cut, and it remains the worst class by far.

So, either that guy is bullshitting SO fucking hard, his group was cheating, they were reading rules wrong, or there's some really shonky shit going on that hasn't been made clear.
