>>

depends on the VA.
>>
>>48940672

Most of the mantid are dead, since their life cycle is built around getting really numerous, swarming, being decimated and then spending a lot of time rebuilding.

With the mogu creation forge taken by us and the pandaren I don't think they can make more of themselves, so they'll probably just die out.

He changed his name like forsaken do but isn't one. He stays undead but doesn't become a lich. He is 3000 years old and the scarlet crusade doesn't care about him. Despite Dalaran always getting uppity about necromancy he is somehow immune. If that isn't Mary sue then I don't know what is
>>
>>48941982
The Scarlet Crusade and Kirin Tor issues can simply be explained by him staying out of the public eye, and what little has been said on how he became undead points to it not being his doing.

>He stays undead but doesn't become a lich.
What does that have to do with him being a Mary Sue? I'd say that's the opposite.

Am I the only one that hopes they'll turn sylvanis's characterization around and have her like, start seeing all of the horde as her people and become less batshit crazy over time? Cause her defining feature is more or less doing whatever is necessary to ensure her and her people's survival and if she'd see the whole horde as hers instead of just the undead it'd solve a lot of her problems.
I realize that this probly ain't gonna happen and she'll just go full Garrosh and end up a raid boss but I'd like to see the undead become less isolationist and become more tight knit with the rest of the horde
>>
>>48942491

>>48942491
if any established character becomes a raid boss in Legion, it'll be Jaina. Even if she isn't a dreadlord she's obviously getting ready to fuck us all over to get revenge on a guy who's been dead for two years
>>
>>48942536

I've usually ranked it as:

Warlock (above mage because warlocks have no limits)
Mage
Shaman
Druid
Priest
Paladin/Death Knight?
Pitiful mortal classes

Don't really know where to put Demon Hunter. Probably either after Warlock or after Mage.

>>
>>48942960
The thing with "pitiful mortal classes" is that they're also magically empowered

Rogues can teleport behind a wizard, unsheathe dagger and nothin personnel them

Warriors can live through atomic bomb equivalent destruction by sheer force of shield

>Warlock (above mage because warlocks have no limits
The danger with Warlocks is that they toy with forces beyond their comprehension. So they're fine when they stay in the kiddie pool of demonic power that they can control. But there's a vast ocean for them to tap into. Only, like the ocean, it's as dangerous as it is vast and if you lose you concentration, you'll be swallowed up by the forces you sought to control.

I started playing again with Legion. And I've been recently considering writing a longform story and having someone I know do the art to tell the story of multiple characters throughout the story arcs of World of Warcraft.

It's always been an idea of mine, but I've been thinking about it more since I picked up my oldest and most played character (Somehow, he has 2x playtime of the one below him, even though he hasn't been used since TBC.)

And it's really something else to think about the trials and life of the average adventurer murder-mercenary who has been around since the dawn of the age of WoW.
>>
>>48943158
Well if that's all what it takes, then why haven't any dress wearing lowtest manlet ever done it?

>>48943168
Oh, yeah, for sure; being a Warlock means you're a ticking timebomb that inevitably means you're going to blow. But the question didn't have to do with that, just power.

That's one of the weirdest things for me to think about as a vanilla player who played both factions.

There are people out there who never saw the game world as I did, or did as I did. In fact, at this point it's probably a majority that started playing in a later expansion. It really is a story about the few, dying, grizzled old mercenaries surrounded by the new blood at a constant rate.

I actually wish we had the numbers. % of players that started playing during vanilla, or X expansion.
>>
>>48943224

Also the Aldrachi warrior king killed thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of demons and it took Sargeras himself to fell him.

>But he had an artifact weapon!

So? Everyone in the game gets the latest axe of buttsmashing from the raids and gets some unique weapon I'd probably put all the classes on an equal playing field. It's easier to say an individual is stronger than a group is.
>>
>>48943340
What the heck's an aldrachi
>>
>>48943300

Orc warrior, hands down. Saurfang.
>>
>>48943353
An extinct race in Legion, the people who made the tanking DH artifacts. Legion tried to recruit them, Aldrachi told them to get fucked, Legion eventually exterminated them at the cost of one of their most costly wars.

I think it's some fun lore.
>>
>>48943287
I've been playing since vanilla and never played the early horde zones until cataclysm

Unless you count ganking lowbies in Durotar
>>
>>48943287
I'm the Anon you were responding to. My story is this:
I started playing during late BC/early WotLK. My friend that got me into the game was horde, so naturally I was too. I said never played Alliance for the sake of brevity but truthfully I had two Alliance characters, I think. A level 25 dranei and a 15 dwarf, hardly enough to get attached to or remember clearly.
Unfortunately m,y account was hack when my main was only 72. And Blizzard didn't have the retrieval protocol they have nowadays.
So after a week or two of emails and no progress I cut my losses and abandoned the game.

Came back in with Cata, amde a new account and have been playing since then. Though WoD was the first time I really got into any end game content.
>>
>>48942907
WoW classes were meant to be streamlined and balanced, but it was so long since WoW has started so those very theme park mmo design choices have infected the lore since then.

I think before that got out of hand it would be closer to d&d in some ways where magic users are more quadratic than the linear warriors.

I guess something like
>most powerful
Warlock, Demon Hunter, Paladin, Death Knight
mage
druid
shaman
warrior
hunter
rogue
>>
>>48942298
Gadgetzan will run on pure dreadlord fuel by 35

So how about that Gnomergan. Think they'll ever get that little mess cleaned up?

I mean I understand it's bumped down in priority right now what with the demons and all.
>>
>>48943186
That route was mandatory if you were a night elf druid. Unless you were like me and wondered what happened if I hugged the coastline all the way down. That's how I found Newman's Landing, and from there my desire to explore every nook and cranny.

I can say with pride the only places I never managed to explore was that peak in Stonetalon with the "help me" sign wiritten in textures, or Old Outland.
>>
>>48943094
>Gameplay mechanics

sometimes, sometimes not so much. if you have abilities that are fluffed as mundane which seem to do "supernatural" things in the gameplay that's one thing. but several rogue abilities are outright magical and clearly say so.

it's nothing new, the warden in WC3 is basically a magic rogue, and the blademaster was a warrior who seems magical but is really just very good.

I have players who have played WoW since its fucking launch, but I am mulling the idea of running a tabletop based on it.

I'd like to stay canonical or at least close to the main timeline so they can't tell immediately

What plots could I have them do? Or things I could involve them in that they might not know about?

This would allow one of my favorite ideas of all time that I've never been able to execute. Lull the players into a false sense of security that they're in the cannon universe and can't fuck anything up. And then they do something that re-writes it all.

Riiight, I forgot he was a thing. He was the one researching the lethargy of the orcs in internment camps. It's likely due to his influence that Jaina was so diplomatic with the orcs in the first place. Probably more of a father figure to her than her actual dad. In the end he got killed by her ex, ha.

I was hyped for new demons for demo and the most we got was two, debatably one and a reskin of an existing one.

And the artifact doesn't even give a new one. I'm gonna be pissed if I don't get my pitlord by next expac.

Or would that be too much power for us to have?

If we kill the legion this expac, they'll be nowhere else to go but straight down(and hopefully pit and dread lords looking for employment).
>>
>>48945762
Pitlord is definitely pushing it. My memory may be fuzzy but has there ever been one that wasn't intended to be taken down by a 10+ man group? Outside of quest lines.

>>
>>48945950
I like the idea of going on a quest to get it as one of the greater demons along the lines of the Infernal and Doomguard.
Which used to have their own great quest chains to acquire.
Yes, back the, all Warlock pets had some sort of quest chain to acquire, but aside from the epic mount, they were mostly "go to exotic place, talk to dude, get new pet."
Still better than the bullshit we have now that just dumps it into your spellbook.
>>
>>48945981
Exactly!

I loved those sorts of things.
I still have the mats needed to summon the Dreadsteed in Dire Maul. And a couple of the potions that make me friendly to the demons in Jaedenar. I wonder if those still work.

I'm really hoping these class halls things will bring that sort of feeling of accomplishment when you get something unique to your class.

>>48943186
I was playing around with a similar idea in my head the other day, and decided that I'd like to start off in Cataclysm.

Now, I'm a BC baby, it's just that I feel like Cataclysm is when WoW really "came into its own" instead of being a WC3 follow-up. I mean, I also think it's the expansion when everything went down hill, but it just seems like you'd have a lot of freedom to work with in a peace since you avoid all the loose ends and road bumps involved with writing through the less defined more dynamic plots in the previous expansions. Skips over a lot of shit that'd be boring to read through like the introduction of Draenei into the Alliance as well.

Frostmourne only further enabled the Lich King's manipulation of Arthas, having your soul stuck in a sword is only damaging to you if you have no friends or social safety-net.
If you substituted necromantic magic with literally anything else, the Scourge would have been ten times worse.

Right, the calculations were done based on one of the novels, lore Azeroth is like 160x the size of game Azeroth. It's still a rather small planet.
>>
>>48947788
It's pretty fucking astounding really that Ner'Zul could run that entire plan really. I wonder if Mal'Gannis went along with it just to see if they could pull it off. I mean everything was leading up to Arthas taking up Frostmourne.

Was it ever revealed why he picked Arthas instead of Varian or literally anyone else? Or was it simply a case of Arthas' personality was such that they could break it following the plan?
>>
>>48947826
Game Azeroth is probably like 40 square km.
>>
>>48947885
I've heard size of Manhattan before so that's pretty accurate
>>
>>48947879
the plan has a lot of holes when you look at it in retrospect.
>>
>>48947879
Arthas was undisciplined and prone to rash action to start with, so it's probably a case of his personality being easily corrupted.

That and he was in a prime position for it, since all this shit went down in and around Lordaeron, so Arthas was right there.
>>
>>48947571
It's only 'corruption' when an entity moves away from an observer's position on the chart.
Arthas, for example, is in training as a paladin of the Light - but his first priority, as heir apparent, is actually Reality. When he tries to act in the interests of Reality (aka purging Stratholme), he does a piss-poor job of convincing Uther to help him. Jaina sees the necessity, but being essentially split between Life and Order, she's unable or unwilling to go along with him.
Power comes at the cost of attachment to the source of that power. By splitting their loyalties, any practitioner of magic is that much less likely to act in the best interests of other beings, and that much less likely to appear (or be) sane to others.
>>
>>48947879
Likely the Legion was looking to destabilize the strongest Human kingdom left. Arthas was the perfect tool to do it.

Why did everyone think the night elf used for the promotional material and cover of Warcraft 3 and WoW was Tyrande? Even Blizzard themselves had artists who depicted Tyrande based on this. The cinematic for WoW showed clearly that this is a druid, and the other night elves shown in art for the period have different outfits. Also it looks nothing like Tyrande's game sprite.
>>
>>48948645
Define 'mellowed out.'

Because even if he wasn't raid-boss-rage tier, he'd still think the mogu are a superior race that should be in charge.

So it's probably a case of 'willing to let the Alliance and Horde work for him', more than willing to join either.

>>

Probably not, Titans are not known to be capable of reproduction.
>>
>>48948841
Nerubian civilization had an Egyptian motif, and when the Scourge subjugated them they stole a lot of their architecture (like the ziggurats and the necropoli).
No idea why KT has that kind of look, though, or why he has those horns and fangs. He was a human mage from Dalaran, and before being killed and turned into a lich used the standard necromancer model (bearded guy in robes with a skull motif). But when he gets ressed as a lich his skeleton somehow grows fangs and he starts dressing like he's from ancient Egypt (or in-universe, like a Nerubian I quess?).
>>
>>48950245
It's a plot point that his body is severely decayed and needs a special vessel to survive being transported to the Sunwell, so maybe they replaced missing bits with orc bones or something?

Or it's just a result of the lich transformation process, since all the other liches from around that time are orcs, so it was devised with an orc body in mind?

>>
>>48950175

They apparently distinguish between male and female. Maybe they don't reproduce, but they were all once world-souls, right? And all, like, the plants and animals and all that shit are tied up in that whole spirit junk.

The planet as in the rocks it's made up of doesn't reproduce, but their spirit is made up of the collective life-energy, or whatever you want to call it, of everything living on them as well as the rocks and the weather and so on. And all those living things reproduce. So maybe they inherit the left-over feelings from those. It's not like a living planet would logically have any of the other emotions you'd associate with organic lifeforms, but the Titans seem to feel compassion, anger, responsibility, despair, et cetera. They clearly don't derive the way their minds work from any sort of evolutionary process, so why would they need to be able to reproduce to feel things we associate with the reproductive urge?

It's like, if you made a robot by copying how human brains work, then the robot wouldn't reproduce itself but it could still have an urge towards romance, and fucking.

>>48950527

I'd say it's more probable Azeroth is the Earthmother, and Elune is like... a proto-watcher that she made for herself by splitting off the moon, or something. The old tauren myths in TB say the Earthmother is the spirit of the planet and she created the sun and moon, them being her eyes that she pulled out and threw into the sky.

Since we now know Azeroth does have a spirit, that she identifies as female and is a Titan, then that makes Elune and An'She sound like her creations. Earthmother's Eyes = Azeroth's Watchers.

Watchers haven't been seen as quite that powerful before, but they've been on the raid boss level with wild gods and so on, and Azeroth is supposed to be like a super-Titan or something so hers would be stronger. Besides which, the Watchers we've met were probably not the most powerful Watchers of each Titan, since the ones on Azeroth wouldn't have been their top servants overall. Like the difference between the overseer of a country's colony and that country's own prime minister.
>>
>>48950245

Got the ball rolling on a WoW 5e game (with a healthy dose of house rules). It's not set in stone, but we do have a theoretical party going if we do.

>Alliance aligned.

>Female Night Elf Ranger, think WC3 Night Elf, aggressive, standoffish, and suspicious of strangers.
>Female Gnome Mage, think typical dork girl who ended up with the Kirin Tor.
>Male Human Paladin (me), a minor nobleman from Stromgarde, very tactical and academic, treats combat as a battle of wits.
>Male High Elf Warrior, a massive ponce who loves to duel, dance, and just generally be a fruit.

The fact that Eonar's personality and the normal Tauren behaviour match to an extent just makes it the more likely in my opinion.

I always liked how the RPGs had stuff that would show up in the game eventually. Like, I knew the layout of Northrend years before Wrath was even announced, and I knew pandaren would have shaman and an organization called the Shado-Pan.
>>
>>48947571
Kinda curious, how does this relate to the Loa?
>>
>>48957820
Technically it was Shodo-Pan, and the layout described in the RPG was completely different but yeah, it is cool.
>>
>>48957855
Wasn't the other difference being that Pandaria was implied to be west of Kalimdor?
>>
>>48957873
I think it was that Pandaria was called "The Wandering Isle", whereas in MoP they separated the two. You could be thinking of how they mentioned that anyone who travelled West of Kalimdor or East of the EK were never heard from again, which led some to speculate they'd reached Pandaria which was some kind of paradise.

Did they really need to kill off both Vol'jin and Varian just to drive home that Legion 2.0 is bigger and badder than the old one and you're gonna die?

I think they got shitter with lack of them giant part robot demons.
>>
>>48958001
Nah, it was just to the West. Which is why the pandaren had an old colony in Stonetalon
>>
>>48959130
>Did they really need to kill off both Vol'jin and Varian just to drive home that Legion 2.0 is bigger and badder than the old one and you're gonna die?
Considering that the second invasion didn't see any big figures getting killed the scourge doesn't count, that should drive the point fucking home.
>>
>>48959044
Kalec is "Half-elf" too and he uses the human model. Meanwhile Arathor is a half-elf and he uses the standard blood elf model with blue eyes.
>>
>>48959130
Voljin dying pisses me off because he never got to do shit as warchief Sylvanas always was on the frontline during big eventa, Voljin just learned some martial arts from panda ninjas.

It's crunchy and it won't make you fat is pretty much the sum of its virtues.

Loa aren't wild gods, but wild gods CAN be Loa.

Loa(in the Troll religion, lets leave actual practices out of this) are any spiritual entities with power to effect the physical world.

>Wild gods
Loa if they'll respond to Troll worshipers.
>Random powerful nature spirit that doesn't quite cross the demigod threshold
Loa.
>Grandma Agnes' lingering ghost
Loa.
>Wisps
Loa.
>Sentient elementals
Loa.
>Horrible soul devouring entity from outside of space and time
You best believe dat be a Loa mon.
>>
>>48959675

>effect

Loa-dammit I mean affect.
>>
>>48955274
A few others I think.

I think at least in the latest canon Azeroth was first ruled by elementals.
Then old gods game and they ruled the elementals and the faceless.
Then titans came and beat them all back, and left their stuff.
Trolls showed up.
old gods used the silithid to create the aqir and shit.

So while trolls & goblins evolved on azeroth, they didn't evolve before outside influence afaik.

Murlocs?
Tauren?

>Murlocs?

Probably came at the same time at the trolls, if i believe >>48959675 though process and a quest where it explain that murloc worship the strongest sea creature they see, and by strongest it mean killing the previous "god" of the murlocs.
>>
>>48959744

Tauren, like most of the animal-people, didn't evolve, they're descended from wild gods.

Presumably the same goes for murlocs.

There were things proto-murloc things in Northrend that worship titan stuff.
>>
>>48959996
>Gorlocs are "an arctic race of murloc-like creatures". Most gorlocs are members of tribes that battle the tuskarr and wolvar in the Borean Tundra and Sholazar Basin respectively. The Borean gorlocs appear to be as hostile and primitive as average murlocs. The Sholazar gorlocs, the Oracles, were given intelligence and awareness by exposure to Titan technology. They are an advanced group of gorloc tribes who have formed their own faction, and are fighting the Frenzyheart Tribe of wolvar in Sholazar.

Also they do magic stuff.
Honestly they're not all that different from the Draenei.

The Oracles call the Frenzyheart puppymen, and the Frenzyheart call the Oracles Big Tongues.
>>
>>48947314
Theoretically yes, but there's some canon mention that no ship sailing east from the Eastern Kingdoms or west from Kalimdor has ever returned.

We do also have a map now of what the world looked like when it was all one continent, and the current map accounts for all of the landmass of pre-Sundering Azeroth.
>>
>>48959994
Assuming this is me, potentially, yeah, though it's still very much just an idea in my head instead of something that's definitely going to happen.

I feel like making a story in a WoW setting is futile.

because no matter what you do, it will not be as important as whatever cocaine fueled scrambling the writers shove down your throats that you need to incorporate.
>>
>>48963351
Then don't aim for world ending apocalypse. Take a page from the quest giver's book and end crisis that affects a zone.
Stop the Twiligth Hammer from being dicks. Or end an elemental dispute. Or be a dragon's errand boy for a while. Topple a Warlord or something.
>>
>>48963499
Wow's story is a big mess made of smaller messes.
>>
>>48963537
And if one wants to run a table top campaign, I feel, it should be built on those smaller messes instead of trying to make a big one.
>>
>>48942907
Warlock/Mage overall, but like 5 other classes are built around stopping them specifically.

>>

>>
>>48968492
What Thrall has been doing post-Wrath makes me sad. He was already assumed to be the most powerful shaman in Azeroth and Outland, but then Aggra shows up because he doesn't know shit apparently. And starts demanding he be called Go'el because it's his true orc name, never minding he chose to keep the name Thrall because he wanted to keep it as a reminder of how he overcame his captivity and made it is own.

I'm glad Aggra has been more or less out of the picture since Cata.

How much more awful was Jim going to be? And what do you think has helped him mellow out since then? >>

He forgot his own lore and gave us space goats, yes he'd be better than Kosak, but he still had plenty of fuckups
>>
>>48968840
he likes reading comics and basing cool ideas off them.
Jim raynor was going to be a drunken mess who was close to breaking because he was fighting a losing rebellion. The scene where he is a drunk mess and gets berated by the idealistic horner was the tone of his character. Then everyone else wanted him to be a white knight.

Metzen is just your average fa/tg/uy, but is somewhat more coherent than them and is charismatic due to all the coke he does.

>>
>>48957822
Loa are officially a type of Wild God, though it's basically become a blanket term for anything trolls deem worthy of worship or similar treatment.
>>
>>48969324
And these days it's been changed further to he's combatting the void lord's plan of corrupting world spirits with old gods by just destroying everything, not that anyone drove him nuts, he's just a zealot. I don't mind the space goats as a player race, but when you start changing your lore around it sets a bad precedent. He admitted he didn't do any research on his old writing, and messed up, it's just let Kosak go full retard on things since we forgave so easily back in '06
