This time, let's do something a little different: use primarily prehistoric creatures for monsters. Dinosaurs feature in all manner of tabletop games: it makes sense that there would be some monstrous versions of them as well.
>>
OP here, just wanted to dump a list of ideas I had for this:

-A Triceratops-type dinosaur with a taste for the flesh of predatory dinosaurs, attacking and killing them on sight.
-A carnivorous hadrosaur with a hollow, holed crest like a flute. It plays haunting melodies by manipulating the wind that flows through the crest, magically compelling listeners to come closer to the source, upon which it devours its entranced prey, shadhavar-style.
-A Synthetoceras-type thing that's basically a reskinned Kirin from Monster Hunter
-A giant Opabinia with dozens of trunk-mouth things, hydra style.

Bloodhorn

Closely related to Triceratops and Styracosaurus, the bloodhorn is one of the more unusual ceratopsian species: unlike its predominantly herbivorous relatives, it is a carnivore through and through. But this enormous 30-foot-long beast does not content itself with small animals and carrion; instead, it actively hunts other predators, particularly large theropods.

With dull brown alligator-like hide studded with short but sharp bone spikes on its back, powerful forelimbs with enormous razor-sharp claws on the forefeet, a deadly-looking eagle-like beak lined with sharp teeth perfect for slicing flesh, and a solid bone frill and three blade-like horns crowning its head, the bloodhorn is a solitary beast that primarily lives in hilly regions, particularly areas with soft soil. Using its powerful claws to burrow through the earth with ease, the dinosaur is known for bursting through the floor and walls of large predators' dens to combat them in their own lairs, but it usually starts combat by charging forwards and slamming into its prey at the speed of a charging warhorse, head first, often outright impaling smaller theropods on its great horns from the sheer momentum behind it. When in combat, bloodhorns gore, bite, kick, and claw with vicious enthusiasm: oftentimes, the rush of hormones during battle can send them into a berserk state, rending them completely impervious to pain and more than doubling their already-incredible strength.

Bloodhorn, pt. 2

The bloodhorn's rivalry with theropods goes beyond merely hunting them, however: the dinosaur attacks not just predatory dinosaurs, but any carnivorous reptiles, even full-grown dragons, on sight, not stopping until its opponent is either dead or has fled its territory.

There have been several attempts to domesticate bloodhorns for use as warbeasts, but even the lizardfolk, dinosaur savants that they are, have failed to tame these incredibly aggressive beasts.

The bloodhorn's hide, however, is of great value to leatherworkers: they can be made into armor that is unusually resistant to the attacks of all manner of predatory reptiles, from giant lizards to dragons, making them highly desired garments by dragonslayers. Furthermore, the powdered horn of a bloodhorn can be used to strengthen potions and spells meant to be used against dragons, and the horns themselves can be made into weapons that are unusually effective against large dragonkind.

Thunderhooves

Towering of the Plains of the continent of Ania tall equine beings known as Thunder Hooves claimed dominion over the tall grasses and slooping hills.

They stood as tall as modern elephants though were reported to have far longer fur then a tradition horse would allowing them to live in the cold months with ease. Not much is known about the nature of these creatures although more then a few skulls have been found (often by tribal orcs who believed them to be the skulls of animal gods) and buried hoof prints as deep as 3 inches pressed into the earth

Based off of the 'thunder horse' myth from brontothere fossils, I take it?

Well say yes and call it that.

Ah, so they're gigantic horses, than?
Don't worry about not knowing about the legend; it's pretty obscure, anyways. It would be nice if someone wrote a book about paleontological fuck-ups.

Bumping with another prehistoric creature to monsterify; the creature I was going to base the scytheduck on.

Rinnic/Rattakk

For most of the month, the rinnic is quite safe to approach: a small, unassuming ornithopod dinosaur, about 4 feet in length, covered in fluffy brown protofeathers and with large, expressive orange eyes that lives alone or in pairs, content to feed on tender shoots and leaves. But this unassuming little dinosaur has a deadly secret ability...

Twice a month, on the nights of the new moon and the full moon, the rinnic undergoes a monstrous transformation: it grows to the size of a grizzly bear, its form swelling with powerful muscles; flesh-tearing claws sprout from its fingers and toes; the fluff on its long, lashing tail sharpens into a forest of serrated quills as long as pencils, while the rest of its integument becomes shaggy and thick like the pelt of a bear; and its normally short, blunt beak sharpens and morphs itself into a shape like the beak of a hawk, while its teeth lengthen into blade-like weapons. This monstrous predator is no longer the cute herbivorous rinnic; it is the rattakk, a ripping, tearing killing machine.

Rattakks are incredibly aggressive predators that possess enormous strength and endurance, able to bound along on all fours or on two legs for hours on end at speeds great enough to catch up with a racehorse and strong enough to toss boulders as large as they are around like mere feathers. Its snapping beak can easily bite through steel swords, and its hide can turn aside almost any weapons, although like lycanthropes, silver is an extremely effective weapon against them. Despite the wildly different behavior, the rattakk still has the memories of its normal form; it's not uncommon for a rinnic to escape a near-death situation with a carnivore, only to turn into a rattakk and hunt down its would-be predator.

Despite their incredible.aggression in their alternate forms, it's possible to tame a rattakk; quite a few lycanthropes, particularly those living in untamed wilderness, like to use them as hunting companions.

C'mon, where are all the writefags? /tg/ loves making terrifying shit and /tg/ loves dinosaurs; this should be a match made in heaven!

Scytheduck

An enormous predator native to the outback of the feral land of Ouss, the scytheduck closely resembles the terror birds found in other regions of the world, but it is in actuality a species of enormous predatory duck.

Standing 13 feet tall, the monstrous bird's large body is covered in thick tan plumage, supported by a pair of long, powerful legs sporting eagle-like talons on the feet. The creature's wings are nearly useless, typically kept hidden beneath its feathers, while the large head rests on the end of a long, thick neck. The head itself is armed with a long, razor-sharp beak shaped like the blade of a scythe, hence its name, and a pair of large, glaring eyes surveys its environment with what seems to be perpetual scorn.

Highly aggressive solitary predators, scytheducks aren't the fastest of creatures by any measure, but they are incredibly strong, primarily attacking via body-slamming their attackers and hacking them apart with their namesake beaks. The talons on their feet can also be brought to bear in a devastating kick, capable of knocking the head off of a good-sized orc.

Preying on the strange pouched mammals of its environment, scytheducks occasionally come into competition with other Oussian predators like ripper lizards, marahute, and burrunjor; while the great birds are perfectly capable of surviving on berries, small animals, eggs, and carrion in such situations, they rarely do so, instead charging into battle and attacking the intruders. Despite the massive size difference between the scytheduck and creatures like the ripper lizard, however, the predatory duck actually has a very good chance: as a natural adaptation to coexisting with and feeding on Ouss' many, many, many venomous creatures, scytheducks are totally immune to toxins of any sort and their flesh is highly resistant to acid. It isn't uncommon to see a scytheduck kick a juvenile ripper lizard to death, then devour the carcass.
