W-would it be ok to use 30k Iron Hands Red Talon transfer decals for soon-to-be-manifest 40k Red Talons?

Also how much Heresy gear is too much for a Second Founding chapter? They're an Iron Hands successor, and Iron Hands still produce MKIV, so I imagine I can justify using lots of it? Not entire squads of it, just intermingled with MKVI/VII here and there.

Sternguard will use some MKIII, maybe for 1 character MKII, mainly MKIV and MKVIII

We played a 6000 per side apocalypse game for the first time last night. Primary takeaway: Superchicken is not to be fucked with.
>>
>>48793549

Cool.
I do already have a fair few Daemons. I've been collecting models for years but never played a game before last night (using a friend's army). Got totally ass fucked but I'm hooked on the game now.

Here's what I've got in terms of Daemons right now (single units each):
Bloodletters
Horrors
Flamers
Plague Bearers
Exalted Seeker Chariot
Soul Grinder
Lord of Change

What to add/not bother with?
>>
>>48793620

Oh I also have 3 Bloodcrushers. I don't think that's enough for a full unit.
>>
>>48793525
Specific demons lists can be stupid. Mass summoned free shit, psyker phase domination, nearly army wide 2++ rerollable are all possible.
>>
>>48793620
>>48793644

Ugh forgot one, also have a generic Daemon Prince.
There's probably more I'm forgetting. Like I said, I've been collecting for a really long time and it's easy to forget about things I have.
>>
>>48793525
Daemons aren't, but spamming summoning is, and Daemons can overflow the board with it in like 2 turns. It's hilarious and OP as fuck.

War Convo's pretty good too, all that Plasma's gonna do something, plus 300 pts. of free wargear and relics is nothing to sneeze at.
>>
>>48793620
Get rid of everything that's not tzeentch.

You win by drowning the enemy in summoned psykers that genere psychic dice for summoning psykers that summon psykers and improve invulnerable saves.
>>
>>48793686
Tzeench I want to make a Daemon army just for the stupidity of Summoning while summoning summoners that summon.

>>

Special group Admech formation, dominated competitive stuff back when you could embark in battle brothers drop pods.

Pic related
>>
>>48793788
Summoning and spamming psykers to buff invulnerable saver is the power play for daemons.

The issue with daemons is they have only three units with actual shooting attacks so it's down to psychic shooting and melee.

Slaanesh chariots make for very destructive missiles, though like missiles they can't take hits themselves, their troops are good at tearign into quality units.

Nurgle are decent at the take and hold game, their cloud of flies makes them tough against shooting, especially when in cover, but not as tough in melee unless you get a Herald with the Feel No Pain Loci to buff.

Khorne... are better used in KDK armies.
>>
>>48793833
Are you fucking kidding me? Free upgrades?!

>>48793788

SoB Formation.

3 full squads of 10 Repentias, 3 Penitent.

Gives re-roll to feel no pain. Can only do it once during the game due to FNP is an Act of Faith.

Yeah sure.

Salt aside I personally think Formation should stay as Apocalypse only, or at least an agreement between the players to use them in normal games, same goes for SH, GC and Flyers.

Since unless you came prepare to face a particular Formation, SH, GC and/or Flyers in a normal game, some armies simply auto loose. Mainly due to unbalance and underpowered codex.
>>
>>48794163
wanna know a secret? for those armies it's not the most broken stuff

hell, my chaos daemon formations aren't so much broken as they make the army msu heavy, great at capping objectives and a modified warp storm.
>>
>>48794238
But... there isnt any normal formations for SoB. Stop making shit up.

But I kinda agree with you. Formations should cost something if they are powerful and have more drawbacks. Riptidewing is a prime example of bad design. There is just no point at all to not take it if you are wielding 3 riptides.
>>
>All the guard formation are shit
>>
>>48794269
There 3 formation, Apocalypse only.

Angelic Host:
Celestin and 2-5 Seraphim
FORMATION RESTRICTIONS
All Seraphim Squads must have 10 models.
SPECIAL RULES:
Fearless
Victory Or Martyrdom:
All models in this formation re-roll failed invulnerable saving throws.
Winged Deliverance:
If the unit is held in Strategic Reserve, they can Deep Strike at the start of any friendly turn. All weapons in the formation have the Shred special rule on the turn they Deep Strike.

Basically gives their AoF without rolling. Also it gives Invulnerable re-roll to Celestin, since Seraphim already re-roll invulnerable save.
>>
>>48794334
>There aren't any NORMAL formations for SoB.
Apo formations dont count. And apocalypse is an old, unusable book anyway.
>>
>>48793596

>>
>>48794358

Eh, I'm probably bad enough at the game that it won't get too frustrating. I mentioned earlier that I just played my first game last night using my friend's models.
They run Tau, Necrons, Eldar, Space Wolves, and Grey Knights with enough heavy hitters to wipe out entire squads easily.
I'm now picturing playing a take & hold game desperately summoning hordes of Daemons while I get the shit pounded out of me by Skyrays and Doomsday Arcs.

Tau, Necrons, Eldar and Space Wolves are all competitive-tier armies.
>>
Would anyone complain about me using Raptor Chapter tactics in a Sons of Corax detachment, using the raven guard relics from the Kau'yon/AoD supplements?
>>
>>48795171
Marines on foot are never good. Bolters do nothing under the current rules. You can play through a dozen games and never cause a single unsaved wound with a bolter. Melee units never make it into melee, so you might as well take them off the table as soon as they deploy. There are a few exceptions like highly mobile superheavies and monsters with melee weapons, but these will get shot to death because you have to get within 4" of an enemy to charge or else the dice will fail you. Even if you do make the charge you'll get shot up by overwatch. If you're playing against Tau then the whole army will get to fire overwatch at each unit that tries to charge, and that will happen every single time you charge. That's before you roll to see if the charge was successful or not. Then on the rare occasion that berzerkers make it into melee they're still causing very little damage.
>>
>>48796020
the more i learn about this game the more i'm convinced the assault phase needs a complete rework

Raptors allow bolters and their variants to be heavy 1 RENDING.
>>
>>48796128
He's right, even as Tau at 500 points I'd struggle to kill a Jump pack MC.
>>
>>48795509
By taking command squad with meltabomb and then as my Demolition Veterans that you can shove into a list. Then tell your opponent to not be a complete bellend and play a fair list.
>>
>>48796154
and Deathwatch can have heavy 2 bolters with 30" range that are functionally rending and wound any non-gargantuan creature on a rerollable 2+. With the right psychic shenanigans you can ignore cover and LOS. But I think we're pretty far past the basic idea of "bolters" at this point. And I'd still rather have grav cannons.
>>
>>48796128
Only way to have a semblance of a fair game is to 100% tailor all of your army for anti armour. Last I checked list tailoring isn't fun for anyone. But if you're going that route, proxy a Cerberus and hope you can get the shock pulse off. Or take a shadowsword. There's loads you can do but what's the point in having two SHs pointed at each other.
>>
>>48796430
Forgot to mention: also precision shots
>>
>>48796042
if gw wanted to make 40k good they'd license the bolt action rules
>>
>>48796430

>>
>>48796438

>>
>>48796625
You can say everyone who uses grav cannons, wraithknights, riptides or stormsurges is a faggot. But when I show up to the local store, that's what the players bring. I'm not going to drive 100 miles for a game and I'm not gonna play in some 40k neckbeard's cat-piss-smelling basement, so I can join the local meta or I can stay at home and paint.
>>
can I do anything useful with a terminator lord's cadre in a nurgle daemons list?
>>
>>48796890
>stay at home and paint.

>>
>>48796973
Great, I'll just kick back and enjoy the even shittier fluff. Can't wait to see what comes out of this "oh noes all of the eldar souls are dead forever yet the plot still won't advance in any meaningful way and the status quo is exactly what it's always been" bullshit.
>>
>>48797096
have you considered playing a different game?
>>
>>48797096
changing the status quo of the game's lore isn't good for business because people don't like it when the setting is ripped apart (ie end times, age of sigmar)
>>

>>48794381
I know, dude. Daemons player has conned painter dude into his greater daemons but can't be bothered to paint his eight thousand horrors. At least prime them.

Tau guy painted his entire third hammerhead over the course of this game.

Knight guy of course has his three models painted.

Necron guy makes slow progress as he bullies his wife into painting his stuff.

I'm the yellow things. Im only missing that achilles and a couple marines I think.

Collectively we need to finish our terrain.
>>
>>48797404
I don't understand why anyone still tries arguing against this.

The rule LITERALLY says "as per the Raven Guard Chapter Tactic" - The text is merely quoting the chapter tactic. So when the rule changed, then this did too - the text is just outdated.
>>
If you email Forgeworld they'll tell you you can use Raptors tactics with Raven relics.
>>
>>48796020
That's some pretty serious heresy you're shooting off about the emperor's perfect infantry weapon. I don't know what your meta is like but I have been loving using the boltgun and heavy bolter portfolio in a sternhammer. But I guess if you play with assholes who use nothing but T8 wraith gargantuan bullshit I can see where you're coming from.

I think my point is don't play with douchebags?
>>
>>48798304
okay I'll just wait until a 30k group starts up in my area, then bolters and heavy bolters will be back on the table.
>>
>>48797131
That's what the other anon was suggesting. Stay home and wait for the rules to get better. But hypothetically, in some conceivable universe in which you decide to play a game, the choices are bring your grav (or equivalent "faggot" tool) or auto-lose.

I guess if you can get 70 bolter marines firing on the same riptide at 12" range then you might kill it.

>>48797144
The lore does change, though. It progresses in little baby steps. That's why it's fucking stupid to give some minor sideshow faction a massive fluff event that by all logic should completely change the outlook and direction of an entire mainstream faction.
>>
>>48797684

They're terribly fun in Kill-teams. I'm trying to assemble a bunch of scouts for my next kill-team, which will take much better advantage of the whole 'rending bolters' shennanigans. Also, Heralds of Ruin list time? I'd like some critique for this list, and to see other people's kill teams:

Raptors Tactics
> Team Leader
Sergeant: 24 points
- EBR Pattern Boltgun(Raptors Relic)
- Targetters
> Core
10x Scouts: 130 points
- Camo Cloaks
- Bolters
- 2x Heavy Bolters
> Special
3x Sternguard Veterans: 81 points
- 3x Targetters

For the most part, my Sergeant and his sternguard veterans all act as Sneeki Beeki Snipers, with the sergeant being the beekiest of snipers. Sergeant and Sternguard setup in locations where they can best be stationary snipers, in order to support a metric shitload of infiltrating scouts.
>>
>>48798304

Reminder an admech troop choice has the Galvanic Rifle which is a strictly better bolter with 6 more range AP4 and precision shot.

Practice. There's no substitute for it if you want to become a good painter. Paint models, paint other models, strip old paintjobs you can't stand, and paint those model again. Tau: They fit the least with the setting.

However, if Evangelion or Gundam rps need a generic alien enemy, the tau work great for that.

>>48793620
Here's a rundown:
Bloodletters - Don't bring them unless they are free (summoned) and then only if you are out of other models

Horrors - these are a great backbone to your army and you will need them if you want any decent amount of (psychic)shooting or summoning

Flamers - kills anything short of power armor

Plague Bearers great at holding objectives

Exalted Seeker Chariot - great anti-vehicle/meq but av10 holds it back summon when possible

Soul Grinder - One of your very few shooting units and with av13 and a 5+ is decent

Lord of Change - great for raining psychic death upon your enemies and is decent in melee as well.

This. I personally don't bother with the Soul Grinder, I think honestly for 135 pts as your only real thing that shoots it gets downed too quick. Then again, I ally in CSM and find Obliterators actually do very well, so needless to say my Meta's pretty casual.

It's nice when your core guys are;
A SM player who just loves his Imperial Fists
An Eldar guy with a hardon for Specialists and a hatred for Wraith
Taufag that likes tanks and infantry
Admech that plays hammer and anvil but literally only wants to think of the game as fluff
An Ork player that wins
And a nidnog that enjoys all of the bodies

I live in a nice place. Paradise compared to the hellstories I hear on here

>>

I'd be careful with the Dark Green. If you make it lively like Calliban with Warpstone (Dark Angles) it'll look good, just not drab Nurgle-ish stuff. Go for it, sounds cool

Caliban was pretty much the only color that I was set on. I'll keep Warpstorne in mind for the highlight. Any recs for the on and purple?

well, i did some rolls on the tables and got imperial fists renegades which i thought was cool because the fists are one of the most loyal chapters and are pretty old, so i'm trying to think of a reason why such a chapter would go renegade. i also rolled "fanatical" devotion to khorne so they're pretty far gone

I thought that other units joining overwatch counts as their one and only overwatch attack. Is there a formation now that allows a given unit to fire overwatch multiple times?
>>
>>48803180
He's a great character because you make Sternguard ObSec. In addition, he makes Melee squads Monstrous by giving theme an additional attack. Run him with some Vanguard Veterans or Honour Guard and you will have some fun with him. He is also pretty survivable off the bat with a 2+/4++/5+FNP. I run him with 7 Honour Guard with a Standard and a Librarian. The squad gets something like 56 attacks on the charge.

Some of them are okay, it would be better if there was a cut in the minimum required units you need to take. I'm definitely never using the infantry platoon/company formations.

It would also be nice if Cadian detachments gave benefits to tanks since you can bring an army of only Leman Russ tanks with command/core.

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE. The Ork moon over Terra has been destroyed by the newly founded Deathwatch. Terra has been saved!

>He was standing there, blank, lost, when the fragments of the moon entered Terra’s atmosphere and the night caught fire.

>The bones of the attack base fell on Terra. Flaring molten red from their descent through the atmosphere, they hammered the continental expanse of the Imperial Palace. Where there was night, titanic explosions created day. Where there was day, millions of tonnes of ash and dust blanketed the sky and brought down a reign of night. Sectors the size of hive cities vaporised. Millions looked up in the final seconds of their lives, and saw the mountains of iron and stone come for them. Millions upon millions more knew nothing. They moved through their entombed lives, far from any view of the sky, ignorant until the blow, the fire, the cathedrals turned to ash, the towers’ crushing fall.

>Shockwaves annihilated ramparts. Winds of hundreds of kilometres an hour raged outward from the craters. Firestorms were a hundred kilometres wide. The dead at impact were fortunate in their ignorance or their momentary horror before oblivion. The victims of flame and wind and burial knew terror. Death came to them with great fear and pain.

>Victory was choking, burning, suffocating, dying.

>Victory was the most terrible destruction for a thousand years.

>The greater meteor swarm spared the precincts of the Inner Palace. Small fragments fell closer, pulverising roofs. They slashed the night with streaks of fire. One struck the Widdershins Tower a glancing blow, shattering the plex-glass windows of the Cerebrium.
>>
>>48806406
>The big strikes fell beyond Mesring’s view of the horizon. The huge fragments vanished, and then he saw the awful sunrises of fireballs. The glow of devastation was the hammer blows of a wrathful god. Then the wind and the dust came for him, reaching into the Cerebrium with a furnace blast. He screamed, then. The hand of the Beast itself had come to claim him. He fell to the chamber floor, abandoned to a monstrous transcendence.

>He was not found for two days. Even then, he was still screaming.

-Beast Arise series : Watchers in Death

The Imperium is victorious. Post your victory faces!

Anyone else wish GW did more box sets like the tyranid swarm? Imperial Guard and Orks could both really benefit from the discount that comes with buying 100+ troops at once.

The Imp Guard one could inclue two platoons with the minimum plus heavy weapons teams, and maybe a nice tank or chimera if they could fit it in for the £100 price mark.
>>
>>48807585

Chimeras should have Heavy Flamers instead of the Hull Bolters. Sometimes you're better off firing the former and snap firing the Multi-las.

Missile launchers are crap. Take a lascannon for AT or a mortar for AP.

Get a priest into that henchmen unit. Zealot gives you great punching power in the first round of combat and if your war hymn goes off, you'll probably go through the round without any casualties in that unit.
>>
>>48807703

Can only glance AV14, not AP2 or 1, single shot on BS3. Autocannon is cheaper and gets more shots, lascannon is much more powerful.

A single S7 BS3 shot isn't going to do diddly.

Necrons. They don't fit. For all /tg/'s bleating about Tau, they fit very well. Contrast does not mean something doesn't work, in fact it often reinforces pre-existing themes.

Crons however, demonstrably don't fit. They brought a wave of retcons to Eldar lore when they were shoe horned into the setting's past and then they were completely rewritten again an edition later, because they new they fucked up. This is what happens when you try and introduce a new faction whilst pretending they were always there. Tau work because their newness and naivety is their flavour. Necrons are playing a role that is already accounted for and require retcons just to be introduced to the setting.

It's clear GW weren't anywhere as clear on what to do with them as they were with other factions. They'll probably get retconned for the fourth fucking time.

Ask them for a catalogue, they will probably have the new Deathwatch in a month or so. I ordered 15 DV Terminators and Belial for something like 35$ including shipping or a Dark Angels FW Dread with autocannons for 25$. My brother just ordered an R'Vana Riptide for 30$ (they have sales).
The plastics are not too great for things like swords break and there are mold lines and stuff, but not as big of a deal as paying 120$ for 15 DA Termies (they sell them for 22$ a pack).
Forge Wolrd stuff is probably the thing you want since they charge way too much as is so the discount is greater.

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Mastertroll Bastard Faggot" bullshit that's going on in the 1d4 system right now. Matt Ward deserves much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine Grey Knights Codex from GW for $55 (that's about £(73.15) 33.23) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cause critical existence failure of Codex: Chaos players with my codex.

GW executives spend years looking for the perfect way of appealing to newfag 12-year olds and pay it up to a million times to produce the finest fluff-rape known to mankind.

Matt Ward is thrice as fluff-rapey as 12 year old fanfic writers and thrice as facepalm-inducing for that matter too. Anything a 12-year old can ruin, Matt Ward can ruin even harder. I'm pretty sure Matt Ward could easily bisect the most loved characters wearing full plot armor with a simple key stroke.

Ever wonder why oldfag gamers never bothered buying his Codices? That's right, they were too scared to read the awful Khornate Knights and their betrayal of canon. Even in the middle of the Bloodtide, Grey Knights targeted the Sisters of Battle with the purity first because they were female and respected.

So what am I saying? Matt Ward is simply the best fluff rapist that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the 1D4 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Matt Ward:

(One-Handed Typing) 3 Words Per Minute 1d6 retconns per paragraph +4 attacks against women Counts as Biggest Faggot Currently Working for GW

(Two-Handed typing) 5 Words Per Minute 1d12 retconns per paragraph +6 Writerape to everything you love in Warhammer Counts as Biggest Faggot Currently Working for GW

Now that seems a lot more representative of the canon-raping by Matt Ward in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Matt Ward needs to be hated more on 1d4, see my new stat block.

No ones gonna read this so late in the thread, maybe better that way… i'm new to the hobby and have already spent $100's of dollars and unaccounted hours of paint-time between 3 factions.
By now i've realized how feeble a presence this game has in my LGS… four players is the high average on a good day. I could at least work with this and get along if not for that fucking psychopath.
A true, legitimate, invisible psychopath who's selfishness has undoubtedly depleted the player base and gone undetected. I am now in the cross hairs of this mental retard for the SIN of not submitting to victimization on the table top or verbally.
Having been chewed up by one before, I knew the warning signs but still made the mistake of telegraphing my resistance.
Now; the little dude i made room for the previous week won't look me in the eye, and the guy i played for the last two weeks went out for a beer with this mongoloid predator…
"You might think that your friends will comprise a good support system… although you may find that if your psychopath saw this coming, he or she may have been already working over your friends, spreading false stories about you, so much that by the time you turn to them… it is they who think that you are the psychopath"

Has anyone seen a copy of the Deathwatch codex, aside from the shitty (but helpful) phone camera leaks from last week?
>>
>>48809460
Somewhat. It's one of the major indicators, but psychopathy can also come with a loss of empathy, as can deep narcissism.
>>
>>48809436
The real problem here is he knows I know he's a shit-weasel; the final smoking gun of his psychopathy isn't his war-convocation, or his rip-off style of play (its supposed to be a war-game right?) its the fact that when i put up even a little resistance to being treated unfairly I became the enemy.
How; if i have a problem, then I'M the problem.
How easily this kind of person can flip the script and turn you into the bad guy. the devil is truly in the details.

Neither psychopathy nor sociopathy are considered real disorders. The correct psychiatric term is ASPD. Also, he's probably not ASPD, just autistic. Autist's lack of empathy and social incompetency often leads to them being totally assholes without even realising they're doing it.

>>
>>48809617
I think the DSM-IV doesn't officially list sociopathy; but some of the specific websites mention emotionality as a sign of socio. And cold, autistic calculation as psycho.
Both are basically brain-damagedly selfish.
>>
>>48809630
It doesn't but people with ASPD aren't usually socially incompetent, if they're of the impulsive type they'll be downright violent and very aggressive, if they can control themselves they're typically confidant and even charming. If this guy has any sort of disorder (he might just be an asshole) he's 100x more likely to be on the autistic spectrum.

there's literally no reason for it not to be one codex in the first place. Neither of them have great unit variety, they're both Mechanicus forces and the skitarii don't even have a fucking HQ (despite one being in the battleforce box). It's a complete joke, and a calculated move from GW to make you buy two codexes and dick around with formations you don't want in order to get a full admech army. I was planning to use them as allies to space marines anyways so I think I'll just make the cult mechanicum model count as a techmarine or servitor or something.

Man, I'm still frustrated at the absurdity of it. It would be like putting a space marine captain in the imperial guard start collecting set.

Their eternal butthurt would be funny, likewise no matter what offerings they received they wouldn't be happy, and finally when you look at it they should probably be the most rare army in the game bar maybe Daemons. A lone chaos marine orchestrating a huge traitor rebellion, backed by daemons summoned via dark rituals, is the more likely scenario. Whole armies and warbands of them? Shouldn't happen outside of the old traitor Legions, the Black Legion in particular, and some outlier cases like the Astral Claws or the Daemonkin guys.

That their players have developed a complex where they think they should be as robust, diverse and powerful as loyalist Space Marine chapters backed by the might of the Imperium, even in the waning years of M41, is entitled nonsense. You want to be a traitor? Enjoy your daemons, renegades and shitty gear. You are rebels, guerrillas, not a well supplied army, dumb fucks.

That's a strange way to say "More sentinels" anon.

Well we haven't started any objective based games since we're still learning the rules (yet we have roughly 1000-1400 points worth of shit already) and are basically doing Purge The Alien except none of that "game ends by turn 3 shit", it's more like.... elimination until someone gives up. So if I don't kill it chances are I won't be able to win. Would I be better off with a lascannon'd up predator tank?

I'd make them better but not by making them cheaper or having the same gear as loyalists or running compositions entirely made up of Chaos Space Marines. They should be mixed. Cultists were a start but proper renegades should be a mandatory facet of their existence. They should have their own unqiue wargear. They should have veteran options.

But giving them Grav because you're ass sore over Centurions? Fuck off, faggot.

>Every new game system has avoided this and profited.

Warmachine/Hordes runs on d6 and its the next biggest game after Warhammer. Changing the dice used won't fix anything. Its the mechanics behind how its applied.

Look up the Ancients of the fang formation for Space wolves. It lets you take 2-5 dreadnoughts their version of a techmarine and the dreadnoughts gain IWND.

Oh well, atleast they get 5pts power weapons so they can fuck shit up a bit.
>>
>>48811526
well that what i get for ignoring those two.. but i think my first point still stands… warmahordes has a lot of chits and markers and book-keeping right? And it's only a skirmish sized game, you can't use that option in a huge army to apocalypse sized battle.
But I always need more data...

Tell me why you aren't playing the most affordable faction in 40k /tg/?

it might be worth it to get a libby with force staff and quickening, though if he's chaos daemons he should drown you in warp charges. perhaps a thunderhammer or 2, you'll be able to knock it down to i1 since i doubt you'll be able to kill it in a single turn. my last game i had 10+d6 in a casual list.

malifaux uses cards, it does alright but the jokers still fuck you.

IH Dreads allready have IWND by default and the Fist of medusa formation gives a shit load of bonii in top of that.

But can you take 4/500 pts?
>>

At 1750 it would be about 13 dreads with no other support. I don't think it's a viable list in a competitive environment.
