You may be able to find some inspiration from historical records, more specifically the Russian Revolution.

Aside from that, you will need two things to happen before the scenario you described will be ready to be overthrown. You need the rich to lose faith in and stop backing the current government, and you will need to splinter the ruling faction into bickering sub-factions. How you go with that, I don't know offhand, but it's a start.

You need to get popular support from the people so they can give you places to hide and store stuff for your revolution. This will also make you more noticeable to the leaders so be prepared to kick some teeth in.

Find someone(s) within the population to be your proxy(ies) when you are away. Make sure you guys are all cool with each other and know how to git shit done.

Don't be afraid to import people from elsewhere who will help get shit done.

Tho real talk, if the population is still "subjugated" and not "ready to kill some fucking nobles" chances are you could just wipe out the ruling class and nobody will give a shit. And then as time goes on and they realize you aren't a shitter then it's all uphill from there.

First off, you have to decide if you want a coup or a revolution.
A coups is when one small but powerful (and armed) faction takes over the government, often killing or imprisoning the old government. Basically your explosive runes plan. It's easier to set up then a full scale revolution, but you will need some extra muscle, if only to guard the capitol while you take control of the country at large, and is highly dependent on how likely people are too accept your coup. Quick hint, almost all succesful coups included (large parts of) the army in their plot, since they are the most usefull supporters and most dangerous opposers.

A full scale revolution is bigger, and more difficult to achieve, but if you play it out right is also almost unstoppable. What you want to do is rally the people against the current government. Use their poor standing, use their blatant power grab from the king, use any ethnic or religious troubles, it doesn't matter as long as you can get large parts of the population angry at the current government, and propose yourself as an attractive alternative. Bards are your best bet here. FOcus most of your attention on the cities, since they have a lot of people in a small area, that you can influence in one go. Also try to get some of the more well of uppperclass people on your side, the transition will go much smoother.

Use false flag operations and terror tactics to undermine authority of the government. Rob the commoners while pretending to be officials and tax collectors. Even if authorities start hunting him as imposer and bandit after a while, the damage to reputation and morale is done. Though he should remember that one of the easiest ways to stop a revolution is to simply compromise on demands. Most governments do this sometime before revolution though in cases like Russia, it was too little too late. You can look at things like the 10's in America where there was the most terrorism and civil unrest of any decade aside from the civil war in their history. The battle of blair mountain could have been the first serious battle in the start of a mass uprising of the industrial lower class. The government though, started giving union rights, safety laws, breaking up company stores and protecting workers. This got the majority of the labor movement to start cooperating and cut off the support for socialist or communist elements in the labor movement. It's harder to get violent when you have bread on your plate, that sorta thing.

OP, just keep radicalizing people. Make the idea of compromise insulting to the peasants. Make their demands absolutely ludicrous to the government.
