The SCS' core rulebook's updates were finished ahead of schedule, so here's the v1.5 update!

Expect the update to the OC&FF expansion sometime this week (looking like Wednesday right now, as I only need to finish typing up the last couple of enemies for the bestiary). Depending on how productive I'm allowed to be tonight I may even get it out in the next few hours.

The GM's guide (Worlds & Wishes) is scheduled to be put out next week. While the data I've gotten from the community regarding Spell Creation has been fantastic, I'm not as confident in it as I'd like to be, so expect a lot of subsequent patches to the SCS to include changes to Spell Creation. The GM's guide is considered part of the SCS v1.5 update, but is not required to play the game using the two existing PDFs.

Productivity was high this evening, and I was able to wrap up the last couple of Bestiary entries, so here's the OC&FF expansion!

Unlike the Core PDF, which had a lot of changes and additions, this one just got the additions of more enemies in the Bestiary.

I've done some advising here and there for AMGC, and designed a couple of the concepts for currently-used perks and powers, but I'm not a main dev.

Honestly, even if I wanted to be a main dev on AMGC, the SCS has eaten most of the time I'm willing to devote to design these days, so I really just don't have the time to work on both. Besides, I think it's better that both systems have separate core development teams, even if they do advise each other from time to time. Helps keep ideas fresh while making sure that we're doing what works.

A while back, we had an OP that compressed all of the AMGC and SCS PDFs into a single post with the core rulebook as the image and the supplements in a MEGA link in the post. There's no reason we can't go back to that formula and include both IRC and Discord info in the OP, so that people can pick and choose what platforms they wish to use.

People that say that the Discord should be the ONLY avenue of MGCYOA discussion are no better than the people saying that the IRC is the only true community. Only through fair coexistence can we hope to achieve the true potential of this community.

As of yet, no one has done any RP in the Discord. There are 8 people who are almost constantly connected. Plus a handful that disconnect when not actually there. Not to mention all the people who have shown up once or twice. Given time, it could grow into a full community in its own right.

Currently all that is going on in the Discord is general chatting, talk about mechanics for the systems, talk about general rules, people vocally admonishing the shitposting in the thread. On both sides. So, not really all that different from the IRC. Just mostly different people.

The SCS wasn't even to a finished state until May, which was a couple months after DSD's ban. Up until then it'd been in playtesting and the game was changing pretty frequently. At least one person refused to play simply because they were waiting on spell creation.

After Zene and madBrewer unbanned him, DSD was planning to run a long-term SCS campaign that generated a bit of interest, and then Avarii banned him again because he didn't like DSD. Wander decided to uphold that ban because reasons. He was back and allowed to garner interest for a grand total of a few hours before being re-banned by a mod that specifically stated that he hated DSD.

See, there are three kinds of people who shitposting and twist walls of explanations, whenever they were there or not: the 'butthurt kun's who got caught up with spewing drama in the thread, the minions who bought in into the rhethoric at the time while shutting their ears, eyes and mouths to all argumentations... or to the fact that there were many members of the community complaining to moderators about the vitriol, others advising on options, third saying not to act heavy handed and that they'll 'talk in OOC and try to sort things out'... and the third group being blantant shitposters who just want to shit up on both sides from the comfort of anonymity, pretending to be 'DSD', 'Discord' posters and 'IRC' posters all at the same time. DSD has been doing the advertising along with SCS posts. You can ask him if he's posted in this thread defending himself as anon. He will say yes. He see himself as completely justified to do so, and considering the group he hates most can't defend themselves, public opinion has changed over time. Most new people think the AMGC original crew were as bad as he say and question why AMGCore is used.

What happened back in March is irrelevant at this point. While I was the person punished for the shitposting at the time, it was never conclusively proven and the entire argument was made primarily of hearsay from both sides. It's digging up old drama at this point.

I've since come to terms with the fact that I won't be allowed back into the main IRC chat anytime soon, but have been convinced by members of the community to carry on my work on the SCS. Do I have a bone to pick with some members of the previous moderation? Sure, but they know who they are and I've confronted them directly. By making it so that EVERY system has equal moderation representation, it forces a system where nobody can properly force an agenda for their own system without having to contend with the other mods. It's good for storytelling, it gives your character a One Ring to obsess over if they want to stay good, or if they're more of a villain, keep it off unless they want to infiltrate some good megucas hideout by pretending to be one of them. Or another monster girl may steal it for herself, to unmuzzle you and let you see your true power. Maybe even to keep herself in check out of jealousy.
There's a lot you can do with it in the form of plot beyond the easy answer of being Instantly Good Forever with no risk of faltering. I would say it is one of the most plot relevant perk you can roll if you're corrupt.

Excuse me wtf are you saying? Zene took over development but was using a BROKEN KIT when running her quest. In NO WAY is she at fault for this. She was not giving herself any special snowflake additional powers. She was following the SYSTEM.
It's not fair to her to judge her for that. She wasn't USING anybody for her own gain. And she ran the quest so people could have fun.
She can NOT be held accountable when the previous devs abandoned the community, AND ever bothered to share their pdf files, AND refused to change what the community didn't like. That blame rests with the developers. Now that Core is crowdsourced this shouldn't be an issue.

Zene is wonderful and would have never taken advantage of the system if it were not so poorly done and full of exploits plus loopholes.

Mods used three strikes with own discretion + leaving things for community to weight in on how people should be chill pilled... If you can't learn how to act like not a socially invalid human being, then you deserve to be excluded until further notice. It would be nice to use the other systems, but nothing is stopping their use. They get posted in the thread except MGX for some reason. There's a valid reason people prefer AMGC and I think that it's because it's much simpler to get into. You can't force people to use a system they don't like, just as you can't force them to write campaigns and DM.


The SCS girl as far as I can tell wasn't banned for making a different system. It never caught on, maybe because she was being a bad person, maybe not, but I don't think it's fair to say the only reason it isn't played is because of that. Looking through all the content in the thread, there's a lot of stuff I dislike the creator of, but still use myself. It just seems to easy to say SCS disuse is from persecution.
If it is true that she was trying to bring in the law to prevent people from using what he wrote, it becomes another beast entirely.
On a personal note I don't like how SCS penalizes AMGC conversion. It feels very petty when all the talk Maid of Charts has is that she aims to be above this drama.

Would you want the AMGC people in your Discord? With Maid there it sounds like the two mixing would cause discord itself. Is it fair to exclude them while including SCS? I don't know. It seems to me either way that there will be A Problem.

This isn't because I dislike AMGC or anything, but because of two primary reasons:

AMGC has a much different set of baselines (plural, which is dangerous by itself), and as such is already a balancing act with any adaptation. AMGC has a MUCH higher expectation of player power, and gives MANY more stats than the SCS does. A character in AMGC will average around 40~45 TST, while that's the sort of TST that a throughly minmaxed character would have (TSTs average in the 30s for the SCS, give or take 10 for MonGs).

Additionally, AMGC has a number of features that are just not feasible or redundant in the SCS. Snapshots, for example, was something I received at least two requests to adapt, but when it came time to go over things I found that Snapshots had an identical function to the SCS ability Patron Scan (which literally everyone gets some form of by default). Most of the AMGC-exclusive perks are in a similar vein: either being redundant, a "dummy" perk to begin with, or just being mechanically irrelevant. The update to the AMGC perks may or may not change this in the future, and if it does I'll look into adjusting accordingly.

Yes, but AMGC Powers got turned into the Relics which don't have the level up system the CYOA powers do. They are going to be weaker as a consequence, penalizing AMGC rolls.
The 6th perk table is also unavailable in any form.


Future expansions may change that, but I'm looking at what is currently availible to play.


SCS has a few exclusive relics which aren't converted into AMGC so I suppose it goes both ways.

While this is true of most of the features of the SCS (whether people realized it or not, most decisions have been fueled by player responses to questions and prior decisions), AMGC conversions are special in that I was quite literally being asked to take a system I have no control over and allow people to make 1:1 ports of characters over to another system with an entirely different baseline and design philosophy.

I don't know how much the average MGCYOA regular knows about game design, but an extreme metaphor for what was being asked of me is if you told an NBA star to go kick a perfect goal in soccer. Sure, they might be able to do it, but there would need to be a lot of practice involved. AMGC conversion is still in testing.

Also, while AMGC players lose out on their exclusive Power(s), they also never have to spend coins on upgrading them like SCS-original character do, so there's that. There's also the fact that those relics START pretty damn strong. I've been doing some testing with some of them for GM-handout purposes, and they can get crazy. The fact that you can, at any time, essentially lend a buddy your power can be pretty damn powerful.

While the intent was to make it so that AMGC conversions couldn't overwhelm the SCS with sheer power, there's definitely a niche that exists for one or two AMGC converts in every SCS party.

The relics are designed to represent a sort of "Level 2.5".

If you've ever seen the old prototypes for AMGC powers (that DID follow the SCS leveling system), you'll find that the relics pretty much preserve that power, giving it to players all at once with the caveat of charge management.

Because of the...well...power of the AMGC powers, many steps were taken to allow AMGC characters the strength that they were permitted in AMGC, while still taking into consideration the rest of the game's playerbase. Because of this, AMGC-power relics are pretty powerful out of the gate.

Will an SCS character eventually overtake an AMGC-exclusive power in force? Probably unless you're Twinned Soul. Keep in mind, though, that you have to spend a GOLD to get from a Lv 2 power to a Lv 3 power. The EASIEST way to get this is to go face-to-face with a Cosmos Sistre, and anybody that's actually read that statblock probably isn't liking their odds in that fight, even with good upgrades. Gold Coins are supposed to be reserved for finishing campaigns or the kind of stuff that puts you in history books. You don't tap that kind of power easily, and yet AMGC characters are given their full power from the start.
