In old-school games, they'd do energy drain. They take off a level if they kiss you, and you don't get it back.

For all practical purposes it does. It's like that card in the Deck of Many Things that instantly locks the character in a magic dungeon underground guarded by fearsome foes. You're the next best thing to dead.
