What does /tg/ thing of the Dragon Age rpg?
>>
If the crunch is good then it might be enough to forgive the fluff.
Might.

Because the fluff is shit.
>>
I'm also kind of curious. I haven't really heard anyone talking about it for a while. I'm guessing a lot of people just don't really give a shit about bioware stuff anymore, but who knows
>>
Can i play a pansexual qunari that identifies as a woman mage?
>>
>>48685606
I'm pretty sure it came out after the first game, so you might not have horns. Otherwise knock yourself out
>>
>>48685626
That's Inquisition art, though
>>
>>48685606
You can, as you can do that in any game.
You think that you are making a comment on the shitty fluff of dragon age but you don't realized that in any game you play you are limited only by you imagination in these games of pretend and make believe.
You are almost more shittier than pansexual qunari player
>>
>>48685673
No, you don't understand. I want SPECIAL RULES because i'm a snowflake
>>
>>48685356
What irks you about the fluff? Specifically I mean.

Keep in mind that everything Iron Bull told you about the Qun was almost certainly a lie.
>>
>>48685333
PDF anyone?
>>
>>48685713

Not the Dragon Age PDF, but here's the underlying crunch in generic form as the AGE system. It differs a bit from the Dragon Age system just a bit, and the book points out where.

Inquisition went full SJW retardation. 2 was already retarded, but it wasn't the SJW-type
>>
I haven't had a look at dragon age but I've flicked through fantasy age.
Does it also only have 3 classes? Because my players find D&D 5E "too restrictive", so I doubt they'd like Fantasy Age.

The crunch is... not fantastic. It attempts to find that sort of level of bloodiness and high lethality (in fluff, at least, and relative to other rpg vidya of the time; remember, DA1 was released in that gap after TESIV: Oblivion), but it doesn't translate all that well onto tabletop. Hits and damage are quite random (instead of choosing a maneuver to accomplish, roll on a table to find out what you did!) and the first book doesn't even contain Grey Wardens at all (though, to be fair, that is in line with DA:O's origins and all that.)

That aside, as the book came out after DA:O, the fluff isn't tainted by the horribleness of 2 and DA:I, so it's at least a somewhat interesting, if, at this point, a bit trite, take on Tolkien fantasy.

>>48686915
5E's a solid system, and the DA rpg doesn't even have as much material as 5E core, so... they probably won't like it much.

pic unrelated except for dragons
>>
>>48686915
3 base classes with several specializations each. Origins had the most specs and abilities. Each subsequent game seemingly has less and less because consoles. Arcane Warrior + Battlemage is broken as fuck since you can substitute magic for strength to wield heavy-ass armor and weapons while turning damage taken into mana to fuel your ability to siphon health and whatever the fuck else
>>
>>48686875
How so?

Other than Krem and Iron Bull I didn't get all that much of a whiff of 3rd wave feminism from it.

And Krem was a freak that thankfully died not that long after joining the Inquisition and Iron Bull was an Olympic grade liar whose name meant liar and whose job was professional back-stabber and being less than honest.

Sure the Qun might have a word for gender-queer or whatever the stupid tumblr shit word is.

The Qun also sees no problem ins rewriting someone's brain.

So yes they might be a man in a woman's body. Under the Qun this might be a recognized thing. It would also be a very temporary thing.
>>
>>48687686
>Under the Qun this might be a recognized thing
It literally isn't, unless BioWare rewrote the lore. Your position in the Qun based on who you were born as/in is as rigid as a dwarf in a mastercrafted sex sculpture exhibit of his ancestors
>>
>>48685356
This.

They build an interesting world in the first game and it took them 2 games to completely ruin it.
>>
>>48687784
>unless BioWare rewrote the lore
yes that's called Inquisition
>>
>>48687883
And that's exactly what i meant
>>
>>48685333
It's shit. BUT it might be good for newfags from /v/ because it's pretty simple. Almost primitive. And it doesn't offer anything unique to choose it over some generic system.
>>
>>48686875
This.

>>48687686
Other than Krem and Iron Bull I didn't get all that much of a whiff of 3rd wave feminism from it.

Before Inquisition the Qun were essentially a North Korea-like state in which you did what you were told, not what you were best at. You fit in to their way of doing things or you were removed as a problem. It then went to equality for all, some more equal than others and we'll make him a special snowflake with horns and make him oddly colored for minorities and an LBQFAGT+/- for no other reason than to show how progressive we are. His sidekick will also be a woman who thinks she is man, for no reason other than to show them how enlightened we are.

The first game had a sort of Pre-/Starting-Christianity vibe going, people torn between the Church and their old ways of the Wardens and the likes. There was grey everywhere in the world in a realistic way, from the Bastard who tried to usurp the throne from the romantized king, to the heavy-handed Grey Wardens taking what they needed without explanation to those they attacked. The encourachement on nature and it fighting back. The Templars protecting what limited use of magic they have in Ferelden and protecting their wards with all means possible.

DA:I made it all very clear.
>Church is bad.
>Tervinter is bad
>TEMPLARS ARE EXTRA BAD, regardless of what happens we are bad
>Qun are very good
>Mages are extra good, regardless of what happens we are very good
>Dwarfs are neutral because we are dwarfs
>Elves, WE WERE HERE ALL ALONG! AHAHAHAHA.
>>
>>48688102
That shit always pissed me off that templars are OMG SO BAD GUISE! when mages can LITERALLY turn into abomination demon creatures AND learn blood magic to fuck with anybody, but Joe Averageman can't learn how to stop those creatures even when they turn during the rite on a not so rare basis.

I always take templars even if I play mage because fuck magic cunts who dindu nuffin.
>>
>>48688102
>Templars in Origins
>Varied per character, some are insane fanatics who want to kill all mages, some know their duty is to protect the mages

>Templars in 2
>Mostly jailers to the mages, discovery of red lyrium bodes ill

>Templars in Inquisition
>PASS THE RED LYRIUM BRO WOOOOOOOOOOOOO KILL 'EM ALL
>>
CAN YOU SPOT THE REAL WORLD COMPARISANT?!

>A group of trained professionals are given wardship over a people that are posessed as a staggeringly high rate compared to baseline
>For the majority they are compassionate, caring and do what their training commands, they guide, they instruct, they train and they help.
>Some fuckers are just evil and despite repeated warnings still dabble in things that kill, that need killing to work, that explicitly say BLOODS, KILLING, RESPECT, DEATH on the lable
>Forced to put these ones down
>HE WAS A GOOD AND WISE MAGE! HE DID NOTHING WRONG
>I'm sorry, he was found with vials of blood, a grimoire of black magicks and a ritual knife
>Protest murder of innocent and well-liked mage who was not at all a blood-mage, nope, I know my son, he would never practice blood-magic
>Mages go out of control and begin widespread practice of blood magicks
>Possession
>Violence
>Murder
>All the things the Templars had said would happen, happen
>Is still there fault.

Then DA:I confirms this despite established lore stating otherwise.

>Hits and damage are quite random (instead of choosing a maneuver to accomplish, roll on a table to find out what you did!)

Ok what.
What do these manuevers do? You just say "I attack" and there are several things that are like
1. You hit him in the chest, do x damage
2. You tripped him
3. You threw pocket sand at him
4. You hit him in the face, do y damage.
or what?

It sounds pretty shit, though. Which I both expected (because video game trash) but unexpected because they just won the 2016 Ennie gold for 'Best Game' (but didn't place top 5 in best rules?)
>>
>What does /tg/ thing of the Dragon Age rpg?

Another CRPG based on generic fantasy tropes. It's okay, but nothing that really stands out.

I'd be more interested in a pen-and-paper conversion of Elder Scrolls than DA.

>muh progressivism!

I wish this meme would end. Pen-and-paper games have pushed for inclusiveness long before video games ever did, yet /v/ went full retard over "their" games opening the door to LGBT characters as if this is some new phenomenon being pushed by their evil SJW boogeyman, and not simply a choice on the developer's part.

And with video games, the lack of inclusiveness before last decade was more of an issue with early censorship practices. Now that publishers and ratings boards aren't sperging out over the existence of gay characters so much, developers are more willing to experiment with those themes.

In fact, traditional games have never really had the same issues with finding publishers who didn't enforce "moral" values on their games, or having to deal with such a retarded amount of media backlash over it. There was some minor controversy about D&D including demonic themes at one point, but TSR eventually stopped giving a shit and put those themes back into the game anyway.
>>
>>48688863
That's kinda when the game was made even if it uses the horseshit art style of the later games.
GOD I hated the weapon and armor design of the later games, looked like a fucking modern art specialist had it's way with them....
>>
>>48690368
Well you know.
Most people on /tg/ don't get to PLAY /tg/ games and don't participate in /tg/ culture anymore; they're immigrants from /a/ and /v/ who dabble on occasion.

>>
>>48690536
This. Is it wrong to want a sword to look like a sword instead of whatever the fuck 'The Fingers' was?
>>
I thought the stunt system was pretty neat.

Rogues are underpowered as fuck without grids though.
>>
>>48691411
Yes way.
That's why you get a lot of jackasses asking questions that are literally answered in the book for the game they are asking about.

It is what it is; the broader market makes much more money then the niche one does and with modern inflation you can't fiscally survive on the profits of yesteryear.
>>
>>48692689
People asking questions that are answered in the DA RPG book can just mean we don't have the DA RPG book, though. Are we all expected to have every RPG?
>>
>>48685333
The extra bennies you get when rolling dubs adds some spice to combat, but other than that it's a potboiler fantasy heartbreaker that doesn't do anything you haven't seen a thousand times before.
>>
Dragon age was never good. But hey, at least it pisses off the mri redpill manbaby types, so at least it has some value.
>>
>>48689047
Jokes aside, I pretty much played the opposite in DAI ; cowardly mage who sides with templars and hates magic, gets the knight-enchanter spec to feel like a warrior, and romances Cullen for extra Templar worship. It wasn't as satisfying as I hoped though, because the game didn't make me feel like I was saving the Order.
>>
>>48685333
Dragon Age's setting is a watered down Forgotten Realms that makes every mistake Forgotten Realms made, but only worse.

>>48694301
I think liking something only because it spites people you dislike is a fairly 'manbabyish' thing to do, my friend.
>>
I've played several games of it since its release. And while I admire its intent and vision I have a few gripes as to class balance( which may or may not be mitigated with increased levels and new expansions) Mostly in the department of me feeling Rogues are a tad underpowered compared to Mages and Fighters. Mostly due to Rogues using several abilities in their attacks and special abilities while Mages and Fighters can get by with high magic and high strength ( granted, both give up something to do great damage) But neither class has to move to a target make a contested roll followed by another opposed roll to hit to gain a bit of bonus damage that brings the "backstab" up to a basic attack with a longsword from a high strength warrior. But like I said it may be a case of a late blooming class, and me hastily judging.

My other and far more substantial gripe with the system is the Dragon Dice Mechanic. While interesting and flavorful it is a completely random factor and so can't be used tactically in any way. It all boils down to are your dice lucky and do you roll matches that are high enough to hit the target and high enough on the DD to do useful special augments to your attack. There is presently no mechanic to ensure or even increase the chances of rolling a double and triggering a stunt. As such you cant cooperate tactically as a group to my satisfaction.

-end copy paste-

In addition many of the stunts while interesting are mechanically inferior to just adding damage or negating armor unless situationally appropriate. Leaving your players spending their Dragon Dice on the same stunts over and over again.Hope this helps in some way.

honestly, I liked Krem. I mean I've met other transsexuals before and always felt they were sort of wasting their unique potential perspective by wanting to change into being what they thought they were.

Krem though says "no, fuck that, I might not see myself as a woman but I still like my body the way it is and if anything could change that I want no fucking part of it!"

Also, Dorian's pretty SJW bait, but I was able to forgive him.

>>48685686
>Keep in mind that everything Iron Bull told you about the Qun was almost certainly a lie.

Actually, this makes a lot of sense:
>Bull is not just a spy, he's a spy for the Qunari faith
>So not only is it part of his job to tell you about the Qun (and why Sten never does, it's not his fucking job), but he'll lie about it to make it more appealing to convert.

And even if he betrays the Qunari, he probably will keep lying because he still has enough fondness for his people and beliefs that he doesn't want the Inquisitor to think of the Qunari as enemies.

>>48694474
I kind of wish mage staffs were used like melee staffs in DA:I too. I wanted to make an Elven Mage Knight Enchanter whose meant to be a monk.

Who thinks elves should follow the Chantry because he feels it's time for change and clinging to the old ways they don't understand anymore is going to kill them.
>>
>>48695534
I had no problem with Krem.
>sounded like a chick
>referred to as a dude
>looks androgynous

That's fine. What was shit was the massive conversation about it and how the Qun was so progressive and accepting and how if you don't like it you're a shitlord.

It was just one of many, many problems with Inquisition.

>>
>>48685333
If it's the same one that was released alongside Origins then I actually liked it a lot, but felt it didn't have enough content at the time. Although I know that changed pretty quickly. I really liked the idea of the dragon dice deciding the degree of success.
