I'm looking to get into chess, but right now only know a few openings and checkmates. The rest of the game is just a haze of moves. How can I improve my non-scripted chess game?

I'd recommend playing chess960 to practice, it's really good at teaching creativity, as memorisation is useless in it.

Fuck yeah a chess thread. I don't understand why these are so hard to come by.
I've started playing over the board recently at a chess club but I run into time trouble often when playing rapid (25+5).

A stronger player recommended that i learn opening traps to improve my time management.
Does any one have any recommendations for books?

Tactics and end games should be your focus.
Stick with one opening and play with the basic principles - develop your pieces, control the centre, castle, keep your pieces protected.
If you can pirate a copy of chessmaster, it has a good course on this basis
