Easy. They /ARE/ one of the horrors.

Kitsune sorceress walks into Horror Adventures.
Horrors with true seeing look at kitsune sorceress.
Horrors proceed to whimper in the corner.

I think I'm getting Metzen fuel fetish but basically the more innocent is the being the more entertaining is the horror/corruption process of such being. You are breaking their very existence.
So you either turn into a mess or you overcome all your fears and become sturdy character that people usually respect.

Let's be honest here; the reason the Paizo devs hate Mengkare is because none of them would be getting an invitation to Hermea anyway. None of them are up to the high standards.

Casting the spell was. Murdering children is still evil.

But paizo has confirmed that using an evil spell to save a child's life is still an evil act.

So the using a good spell to end a child's life is also a good act.

Not once has it been stated that using an evil spell is an evil act. Paizo don't understand their own system and as it's 3.5e with errata, they are wrong by default by virtue of 3.5 rules saying otherwise.

In fact, it's explicitly said that descriptors on spells have no effect unless they are called upon.

Anything a Paizo dev says is wrong by default. Should he be proven right, then the one who proved it is the one who made the statement in the first place.
>>
>>48540114
I would need to see this confirmation. I'm almost sure just casting the spell is still evil, not the act itself. Cite your sources.

In the beginning Geb was a necrommancer magocracy in which the living were the middle class since mindless undead did the blue collar jobs and the undead elite had access to cloned meat and blood. Then some religious nut in investors complained and said "change that or I'll take muh money".
Now Geb is a fucking stereotypical Mordor instead of a land of greys.
For fuck sake this is worse when subscriptos unsubscribe en masse when Iron Gods happened because "muh pseudomiddle ages!" "ugetspacecrapinmuhswordsorceryderp!" and had to halt Strange Aeons and other interesting APs for bring in a hurry the vanilla crap that was Giantslayer and Hell's Rebels.

Oh, I believe it.

I'm just saying, like... D&D has had spaceships and crashed aliens and all sorts of sci-fi wackiness since its inception, and swords and sorcery books frequently use the idea of other worlds to justify magic and strange artifacts of advanced technology. The idea that robots are out of place in 'muh swords and sorcery' directly contradicts a lot of the classic works in that genre.

I ran the first book of Serpent's Skull for some friends, and I can attest that at least that book is alright. Lots of romping around the island exploring, checking out ship-wrecks, and getting to know the NPCs that are stuck on the island with you. I gave them the book's map of the island with all its features blotted out so they could fill it in as they explore and mark points of interest. There were only a couple times that I recall going out of my way to add or change something from the book's suggestion.

That's just one book out of six though- the campaign ended because real life reared its head. So I can't really speak much for the other five books.
>>
>>48543121
I've read the Downtime guide, and as useful as it is, I don't plan on abusing Gardens. Whatever I build will make sense and have a variety of rooms and such in it, and it'll be pretty large on account of how much money I'll have to spare. Besides, my character's a metalworker for the most part, growing plants isn't really his thing.

We're going to be establishing our own kingdom in the Darklands, and we voted and picked NG for the kingdom's overall alignment. You can see how this is going to be troubling. I have Craft Construct already, and a number of them in my mechanical menagerie. To avoid slowing down combat, I set a rule for myself to only bring one of them along on any given adventure, while the rest guard our little town.

Hey guys! Zootopia Anon here with session four of the adventure. Team ZPD just got massively outfoxed (heh), and allowed a major string of thefts to occur under their noses at the Gazelle concert. Team leveled to 3.

>Cheif Bogo is Not Happy with the group, only holds off on administrative action when they say that they've narrowed down the hidden art to two potential regions, Aviary and Mountain. They have one week to get that art back, or else apprehend Lupin, or there are going to be six suddenly ex-cops.
>Team heads to the Aviary environment, Ibis immediately gets worried.
-The mother was the actor here. Character was from Aviary, but her wings got clipped by gang activity.
>Air is clear and cool, not too humid, and lots of hiding spots. Team hits the streets, asking about the criminals.
>Dog Vitalist hits the jackpot with a particularly racist pigeon, who wishes all those canines would go back where they belong instead of messing up 5th Roost Row. Lupin is a wolf, plus two foxes on his team, might be there!
>Team gets there and sees a monkey matching the description of one of the missing perps climbing up to a large birdhouse. Sounds of an argument ensue.
>Running to the ladder, suddenly a murder of crows descends, screaming the Ibis's name. Looks like one of the gangs found her, and they want her dead.
>Combat ensues, during which she displays her newest blaster cartridge: Web. Wings don't matter as much.
>Two of the squawkers evade the blast, only to get wrapped up in nets and plunge thirty feet.
-freaking nets, forgot that ALL FOUR KIDS had them...
>Team gets them wrapped up and cuffed around the pillar leading up to the birdhouse, Elephant Aegis stands guard while local reinforcements come to take the five gang members away.
>Albatross suddenly flies out of the birdhouse, carrying a large satchel. Cat spots the corner of a painting. Team is unable to effectively pursue, none can fly. FML

Technically speaking, the Polearm Dancer feat would allow for this. While it states "spears and polearms", it does not specify that it is talking about their weapon groups the way Spear Dancing Style - the closest analogue - does. Therefore, by technicality, it encompasses all polearms, regardless of their proper weapon group. The Scythe, while falling under the Heavy Blades weapon group, is a hafted weapon which gets explicit mention on the Wikipedia page for Polearms.

Therefore, the Scythe would be an applicable weapon for Polearm Dancer, but would NOT be an applicable weapon for Spear Dancing Style.
>>
>>48544102

>>

Yeah, I know, but given paizo's reputation, I'm surprised they'd include something like that.
>>
>>48543980
(continued)

>Up in the birdhouse, the group finds a second albatross getting ready to take off as well as three enemy team members: Monkey, Pig, and the frog Jigen. Gonshot goes off, Jigen pulls off a ranged disarm in the surprise round to knock the Ibis's blaster away. He knows Color Spray is coming if she get her hands back on it.
Remember here that the Pig is an Avenger Vigilante, he hits like a TRAIN. Thankfully, the rhino gets in his way, kicking off Rage. Monkey keeps loading up art.
>Cat and panda immediately dash in for the remaining art. Albatross takes off to get out of the way and successfully disengages.
>Rhino has huge fists of fury now to go with his horn. Two full attacks later and the hog is laid out, only escapes death when the Vitalist stabilizes him, because freaking OUCH.
-That kid was SO proud when he hit 3/3 on the second attack set, but when he crit the horn the hog went down despite Ferocity, at which point he realized that he MIGHT have messed up.
>Remaining two opponents realize that this is going poorly and abandon ship, just in time for the Ibis to secure her blaster and load up. Jigen gets caught by an Acid Arrow (I think she was mad, not going for disabling shots).
>Monkey jumps down, nearly lands on the ARMED AND READY ELEPHANT IN OFFENSIVE MEDIUM POWER ARMOR, gets Sap critted so far past unconsciousness it almost goes lethal again.
With the immediacy out of the way, Monk and Cat pursue Jigen as he's getting acid burnt. Monk sprints forward and whiffs a Stun, but a shot from Kitty (under Overdrive) lays him out. Also stabilized by the Vitalist to prevent death.
>Total haul when the Aviary division arrives: five ravens, one monkey, one VERY infamous frog, and the Hog (a known Mr. Big Enforcer in his combat identity). About 25% of the stolen art is also recovered.

(to be concluded)

Sorry, my gaming group is almost entirely Jewish. Harmful stereotypes aside, half the fun of playing with them is the fact that not only does boisterous rules lawyering become half the fun (seriously, two of them had a Rabbinic debate on whether or not an elf could wield an Elf... it turns out that no, they cannot by Rabbinic law, but they CAN wield any creature whose mother named them Elf). That argument would totally fly at my table (Generally any time a technicality like that would come up, and it doesn't break the game, someone says "(S)He's not wrong." and we let them do it).

-Team is celebrating at this point, it was a good fight. Of course, then they get back to ZPD Central...
>Turns out nearly killing four of the said bounty in the process of apprehension has serious protesters on the street, made the evening news. Accusations of police brutality, etc.
>Vitalist has to address a press conference, along with the Cat Paladin for support. It wasn't pretty. At least he didn't point out biological components.
>Cat's comment: "If you attack a group of ZPD in force intending to harm or kill, our only obligation is to save your life if you happen to survive it. Not to let you off easy. If you flee into the sky, we will bring you down to earth."
>Birds in the crowd were not amused, this is a predator known for eating birds in the savage past.
>Proceed to butt-chewing, do not pass go, do not collect $200
>Closing the session, the team notes that the two albatrosses went east, towards Mountain District. Looks like we have a new target

Asking for Polearm Dancer to apply to the scythe is your best bet. The only 2h that works with Dex-to-Damage without a workaround is the Estoc.
>>
>>48544423
>>48544463
Coincidentally, the Estoc is a heavy blade, which is what the scythe is also categorized as, which should make your argument a little easier.

They find themselves in massive cathedral of metal and looks like a hangar or garage, there are corridors branching out.

You know in most horror games the PCs are squishy humans, susceptible to going insane or easily dying, what if instead of this too staid presumption the PCs are near demigod in power. Then they are let loose to combat the creatures of the night.

aroden.jpg
450KB, 676x900px
Playing pathfinder for the first time ever, after GMing for 10+ years. Looking for feedback on my character

Aroden Rainier, The Reckless
Cavalier, Order of the Shield
Born in 4686, in the city of Vigil of the nation Lastwall.
His father was Holm Rainer, one of the mounted knights responsible for the victory over Warlord Graukrad in 4695.
Named after the dead, but not forgotten god, Aroden was destined for great things in the knighthood of Lastwall. However, he rebelled against the government of Vigil in siding with Lastwall’s lower commanders, believing that Lastwall’s knights should be more active in their fight against the Orcs of Belkzen.
Aroden eventually betrayed his Watcher-Lord and father, riding a stolen horse from Vigil to the northwest corner of Lastwall where he participated in an unsanctioned attack against Belkzen. Of the 24 men who participated in the raid, only three survived and of these three only Aroden was not maimed. He returned to Vigil in shame where he was spared execution for his transgression, though stripped of his knighthood and exiled, banished from the nation with only a horse, longsword, and the clothes on his back.
Aroden now wanders the Inner Sea region, upholding the name of the Last of the First Humans, Iomedae and the edict of the Order of the Shield. Some folk, though few and far-between, mistake Rainier for one of the guises of the Living God.
>>
>>48550503

It feels a little meandering? You're going for an exile story, a godhood in flesh story and a proud knightly protector story all in one and it kind of feels clunky.

Aroden was a blacksmith, one that was highly respected in Azlanti noble circles.
>>
>>48550536
>a godhood in flesh story
I'm trying to downplay this, it's not meant to be major to who Aroden is.
I figured a knight being named after Aroden made sense coming from a nation founded to guard the Whispering Tyrant.

Why is it that whenever I run a normal campaign, there's always at least one guy who wants to play an evil character, but when I'm running an "evil campaign" the players all of a sudden find their conscious? I don't mean they're not evil aligned according to their sheet, but just... They don't act that evil, often doing good deeds like treating someone fairly when the smart thing to do would be to use 'em until they're not helpful and then backstab them.

Am I just being fucked with?

What are some things you might find in campaign notes/character generation rules that makes your creative juices flow and you genuinely get invested in the character concept you were ruminating on?
>>
>>48550825
Interesting magical landmarks. Ancient ruins scattered all around a nation. Other things that hint to or reference the past. All that shit's cool, especially when it's shrouded in mystery (IE, scholars of the setting haven't already discovered its secrets).
>>
Next session, my players will be having their characters sneak into a fortified and well-guarded town via the town's underground waterway. An NPC will be guiding them to an old well outside the town's wall that is no longer in use and mostly forgotten about, which they can climb down to enter the cavernous water system that the town draws on and then come up somewhere else inside the town.

I don't want to include combat as an element while they're down there, but I also don't want it to be as simple as telling them they arrive in the town safely. What are some ideas for things I could throw at the PCs down there without doing combats? Would a water-based "puzzle" be an awful idea?
>>
>>48550905

They find an engraved ring or some other sentimental item that suggests an affair or some past love between an NPC and someone they have not met yet.
>>
>>48550905
Why not just include a few light bits of combat, maybe a gelatinous cube? Those don't get enough love. Could even have the water level changing close a door and open up another one that lets monsters in and splits the party.

Don't just make it "pull these levers in the correct order to open the way", because once the players figure out the mechanic and what the win condition is they'll just say "we do that until it works."
>>
Can intelligent undead retrain their class?
>>
>>48550825
Honestly, it's mostly how much content is allowed and whether the game is Gestalt, which enables a lot more of ideas; as I generally build a character concept around a mechanical build rather than the other way around.
>>
>>48550962
It's an online game, so combat can really eat up a lot of time out of a session. That's why I'm trying to not include too much unnecessary combat in this game. So for why not just some light combat... Well I assume you mean easy combats against just one or two enemies that aren't especially threatening. I'm not sure what the point of something like that would be, since there'd be no sense of danger or risk for the party with weak combats like that. It just seems like I might as well say "There were a couple monsters down there, but nothing the party couldn't easily handle." and move on.

I'm not sure what sort of puzzle I would use yet, but I'd be avoiding something that's just figuring out the order to pull levers in. As far as puzzles go, those are generally pretty dull.

Got it, will include some interesting magical landmarks (which I should've added already) or even just bog-standard ruins of lords-long-passed or battles resigned to the history books.

And don't worry about the content, I'm allowing everything from DSP (and other 3pp if you run it by me) with 32 point buy gestalt. I'm considering the starting level to be somewhere around 3-5.

I'm curious, since warder feels like one of the least strike-focused classes.

Warder players, do you go for strikes or full attacks? What sort of ratio do you use them in, and how does your damage compare to the rest of the party?
>>
>>48551396
Depends, really.

Strikes are fairly good, but Vital Strike builds if your GM is chill and allows Mythic Vital is fun. Combos well with Seize the Opportunity too, which is useful.

What's REALLY good is Martial Charge+Greatsword Battler+Vital Strike line.
>>
>>48551396
>Warder players, do you go for strikes or full attacks? What sort of ratio do you use them in, and how does your damage compare to the rest of the party?

I tend towards strikes whenever I feel like doing something cool, such as impaling a guy on my sword while freaking out the rest of the encounter.

Honestly, I'm in the same boat as >>48551367, the Zweihander Sentinel is so versatile it basically encompasses every type of "badass non-magical fight-man" out there. Want to play Ornstein? Piercing Thunder+Elemental Flux with a longspear. Want to play a badass duelist? Scarlet Throne Style. Want to smash good and hard? Earthbreaker with Primal Fury.
>>
I thought warder playstyle was using zone of nope every round restoring any counters you might have spent, and actively trying to kill enemies only if they somehow closed onto you or your friends.
>>
>>48551449
I'd add "Str based" to "nonmagical fighting man". Also Int focused, Warlord is better for your Leadership dude needs.
>>
>>48551572
You can do that, they can also just get up in the enemies face and wreck them with high attack power and high defense.

They're not as good as blitzkrieg the enemy as say, a Warlord but they're certainly great at it.
>>
>>48551396
I tend towards full attacks, but I think that's more a consequence of my build than any specific choice. One of my teammates wanted to play a (Unchained, at least) monk, in our group with my ZS and another player's PsyArm. I ended up building way more for support, and prepping either counters that protect allies, or specific strikes for special occasions, like Iron Wave to boost damage on the party members with silver weapons, or Silver Knight Strike to heal.
>>
>>48551589
Eh, Dex-ZS can do pretty well too, particularly if you get allowed to merge the Muleback Cords into the same slot as your cloak of resistance, or if steelforge is allowed so you get a corset of resistance instead.
>>
>>48551572
>I thought warder playstyle was using zone of nope every round restoring any counters you might have spent, and actively trying to kill enemies only if they somehow closed onto you or your friends.

The best way to protect your friends is to kill the threat.

Warders are incredibly good at this.

Focusing on high-damage alpha strikes (with, well, strikes) is by far the most effective way to play most initiators, and warders are no exception.

I have a 5th-level, "no Broken Blade" dreige warder build here ( https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/48417218/#48417691 ) that demonstrates just how much Rising Zenith Strike and Reflected Blade Style can ruin encounters. Bear in mind that the base damage should be 8d6 or 16d6 on a Rising Zenith Strike, since I was using the table version of Primal Warrior Stance.

The above 5th-level dreige warder build has a 5th-level, "swap out all Path of War 1 disciplines for other disciplines" version here ( https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/48417218/#48417995 ), which is only slightly less devastating.

I also have a 9th-level half-orc warder build here >>48462914 that demolishes enemies with Ruby Zenith Strike and Reflected Blade Style. Again, I was using the table version of Primal Warrior Stance, so the base damage should be 8d6, or 24d6 on a Ruby Zenith Strike.

Here >>48466984 is a 9th-level "no Path of War 1 disciplines" zealot who decimates any and all opposition in cone- or line-shaped areas.

Path of War initiators are heavily, heavily slanted towards "open up with a high-damage strike and boost." I do not think more defense- or control-oriented builds can stand much of a chance. Even a Bilious Strike from Black Seraph 4 is beaten out by outright deleting a high-value target (or two with Reflected Blade Style, or even more with a destruction zealot of 8th-level or higher) at the start of combat.
>>

>Power Attack and Deadly Aim work with skill check maneuvers, penalizing the skill check in place of the attack roll. There were originally conflicting answers by accident (a miscommunication before we moved to a better way of handling team discussions), and on behalf of the rest of the PoW guys, sorry about that. Here's the FAQ answer on it. This one is the correct one.
Power Attack is compatible with Zenith Strikes.

http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=19532605&postcount=160
>A: When making a skill check in place of an attack roll, all bonuses and penalties normally applied to the attack roll are applied to the skill check roll, including iterative attack penalties for making multiple attacks.
Charging bonuses are also applicable to Zenith Strikes.

Besides that, the 5th-level dreige warder in ( https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/48417218/#48417995 ) and the 9th-level half-orc zealot in ( >>48466984 ) are both under a constraint of "all Path of War 1 disciplines must be traded in for other disciplines," and they still manage to cause enemies to evaporate on their first turn.

Alpha striking is the premier tactic in Path of War, much as it is in Pathfinder in general.

You do realize evil characters do have things they like, things they care about, and usually lines they will not cross, right?

Most evil characters would never do retarded shit like burn down kitten orphanages and beat puppies to death.

It's just that when there's something they want, or when something fucks with those they like, there's a lot less "options" taken off the list as being "wrong" or "unthinkable".

Because the things you don't particularly give any fuck about, well, who the fuck cares what happens to them all?

Originally Fate/Stay Night was going to be an Otome game with a female main character. You were going to have (Male) King Arthur, Lancer and Gilgamesh as love interests.

But Nasu decided that having a male main character and multiple female love interests would be more successful financially.
>>
>>48552188
Not really, Nasu's "justified" it as how he technically wants what's best for humanity as a whole. Though it's important to note that his definition of alignments is different from D&D's while still being based on them.

Not in Fate, but there are some other series by Nasu like Kara no Kyoukai or Mahoutsukai no Yoru with female main characters that are pretty awesome.

Extra was an actual video game and the main character was just a self-insert for the player. So the character didn't have much dialogue or internal monologues. Whether you played as a male main character or a female main character, the MC didn't have much of a personality.
>>
>>48552738
Yeah. They even released a short, 12 minute "what if" video based on Nasu's notes.

>1) Making channeling more viable (a highly dubious idea in the first place) and then stripping 3D6 off the top just makes it doubly pointless. Variant channeling becomes the default/only option... bad news since theyre just not remotely worth the action economy. Also you're obliged to spend a feat due to the emphasis (which the cleric has very few of in the first place) in order to get Selective Channel.

>2)The 19th level ability is a waste because:

Having a high initiative result (e.g. stalkers, warlords and zealots with Noble Scion [War] and a Circlet of Persuasion, warders) helps prevent counters from being an issue. If you act before the target and the target lacks Uncanny Dodge and Defensive Strategist, they have little in the way of potential defenses.

An initiator who is using an optimized Zenith Strike also has a very high chance of tearing through most counters that are not Eye for an Eye (or other "perfect" counters).

Additionally, if facing an enemy with counters, the *wrong* way to go about it is to hold back and conserve stronger attacks in the hopes that they will throw up a counter against one of your weaker attacks, then unleash a more powerful attack. You are willingly crippling yourself for no good reason. A better way to go about it is to activate your powerful strikes anyway, thereby forcing their hand and leaving them vulnerable to further attacks from you and your allies. If you happened to do this with a melee strike, then it is quite possible that you are now in full attack range.

If you act before the enemy can throw up a Mirror Image, then you have preemptly solved the problem. If not, and you have no way to eliminate the images, then you are better off closing your eyes and trying to whallop them with a powerful strike anyway. You have a 50% chance of ending the enemy right then and there and a 50% chance of doing nothing, which is a better proposal than laboriously trying to tear down image after image.
