We had this before but it's actually just a rifle. No back blast or anything.
Even did some research to find out its basically a mishmash of 2 artillery's with a shoulder thing that goes up attached. I'm in my phone away from the computer but its one french and an old american artillery the body of the french with parts of the controls from the american shoved in on the wrong side then given the shoulder rest and weird metal grate bit before being miniaturized to fit the centaurs size before shoving the correct size french barrel with the american muzzle on it.

It's easy as hell in 5e. All that's required to act as a mount for another PC is to be at least one size larger, and riding and war horses are considered large. (Ponies are medium.)

I wouldn't even try to make the Centaur a race in itself, I'd just make it a free template you can apply to any medium race to make it large but with the lower body of a land animal.. The increased cost of armor and the movement difficulties of being a large creature in a setting designed for small and medium creatures will more than balance out any benefits to carrying capacity and grappling.

Cavalry is essentially an armed man on a horse. Cavalry with centaurs is essentially TWO armed men on a horse, without the downside of it being hard for two people to stay on the same horse and fight at the same time.
