He finds some crack in the crack of a body that's down the crack.
Gets stuck until a wandering white dragon comes trolling on by. Gets rescued in exchange for services like polishing icicles in dragons lair
>they find an ancient cavern full of various body-horror monsters but also things they could use as fuel for fire
>They have to find their way out while also keeping themselves warm, which may wake up some of the horrors
>ends with no explanation as to why the things are there
>Play is off as Deep Plot

If the DM doesn't railroad, the PCs will just wander around uselessly and complain about nothing to do. At some point you have to ask yourself if you came here to play the game or not, and go along with what's in front of you because that's what everyone else is here for.
Or start you're own game. It's a free country after all.

Depends on the setting >:^)
>Crack in the ground + medieval armor
Certain death. Medieval knights needed cranes to get up on top of their horses. There's no way they can climb out of a crack in the ground.
