>Party enters town
>Barren
>Survivors hiding indoors
>at night demons attack
>PCs determine that demons are coming from an ancient tower in the middle of town
>tower has portal on top floor, no windows, one door
>No one in group high enough caster to close portal
>Alchemist scavenges for a day, and DM lets him build a bomb. Rolls a 45.
>DM thinks Alchemist will use bomb to blow up the portal
>Alchemist uses knowledge engineering to find weak spot on tower while party fights demons
>DM catching on
>Alchemist throws the mega bomb at the weak point
>Natural 20
>Alchemist reduced to -5 HP leveling the tower.
>Demons killed, portal closed, party survives with single digit HP.
>Town upset we destroyed ancient ceremonial
>We leave in middle of night, sneaking out before mob justice can attack us
>DM tells us later that there was a wizard trapped one floor down from the top to help us, and we murdered him

I really want to tell a story but I also want to go to bed, so bump and I'll do it in the morning.

GM ended the campaign a few sessions early because he was expecting us to screw up and release some sealed ancient evil.

Instead we screwed up in a different way.
>>
managed to somehow win a tavern brawl against 6 bandits and a bandit leader at level 1 with no weapons

it did involve crashing this ceiling with no survivors, though

>tavern brawl against 6 bandits and a bandit leader at level 1 with no weapons
Explain the situation. Shit GMing, or party members getting cocky?

Technically the party was being completely retarded, but it made my job as a DM a lot more interesting.

>party is in small library in demonic research lab under a bar
>lolrandumb halfling rogue decides to set the library on fire
>smoke quickly begins filling up the lab
>oh shit the door is locked!
>it can only be opened with a blood sample from a worker at the lab
>fighter pulls out severed hand of bartender they removed some hours earlier, much to the surprise of the two mercenaries they had befriended earlier
>frantically smacks hand against door
>door slams open and party scrambles up ladder to the bar
>hightailing it to the bar door, stepping around the corpse of the bartender
>bearded devil teleports in, blocking door
>turns out fire was all that was needed to complete a summoning ritual going on deeper into the lab
>rogue leaps through a window and onto the streets below
>rest of the party does their best kool-aid man impression and rams through a wall
>it is at this point that the fire spreads to the kegs of ale in the back of the bar
>bar now collapsing and on fire
>party gets the fuck out of dodge
>devil proceeds to rampage through the town they were in, killing hundreds.

It wasn't the best of moments for the party, but it turned a stock combat encounter into something great.

>Dark Heresy
>Party is sent to hive city to investigate very bad things
>Get to residential area
>"Is there a list of bunkhouses nearby?"
>"Sure, you'll be able to find them on your dataslate."
>Proceed to list off three detailed bunkhouses with rich backstories, unique names
>"Okay I'm going to avoid all of the ones on the list. We need to go to a place where no one will report we're there."
>Have to improve names of new bunkhouses
>Super ill, have Lemsip, some Strepsils and a mug on my desk
>"So there's Lemsipo, Strepsilon Place, and Mugson's Bar..."

Not a huge thing to be proud of, but it's rare they surprise me by actually doing the smart thing.

A bandit company was peacefully drinking until our rogue decided to be a total ass and pick a fight for almost no reason.

But since it's a rouge, it's to be expected. I'm pretty sure our GM put the bandits there expecting this to happen.

He probably didn't expect us beating them, though.

right, ill join in on storytime:
>steampunk low magic dnd5e homebrew
>party has light tank (yes, really) and is escorting royalty (they dont know) to her destination.

>get ambushed by what is essentially dick dastardly and muttley, but they are a troll that thinks he is an assasin(dick) and a dwarf with explosives (mutt)

>tank stops because of blockage o road (rolled up troll acting like a boulder
>party rolls boulder off the road, yes all of them, no one protecting hip in tank with the hatch open

>dwarf meanwhile sneaks under tank, sticks cartoon style time bomb under the tank and scampers off.
>party JUST manages to see him when he scampers into bushes and finally gets suspicious
>they investigate his footprints in the sand, find that he has been under tank
>no one dares touch the bomb.avi
>tank is made partially of wood, so the pc with proficiency in woodworking pulls out his kit and basically removes the floorboard the bomb is attached to, and chucks it in the direction of muttley-dwarf
>oh lord we wacky racers now.
>>
>Party's part of an adventuring troupe
>2 orcs in the troupe have issues with authority
>orcs argue with captain several times
>3 more orcs found in a dungeon, they join the troupe
>party notices the power imbalance
>they give the orcs gold and ale that night, ask if they should watch out for anything soon
>orcs tell them don't worry, just don't get in the way and you wont get hurt
>couple days later the orcs maim and kill most of the rest of the troupe in their sleep, take their shit and leave
>party is left untouched, were supposed to have been involved
>party sort of considers the orcs bros now
>they were supposed to be the villains
>>

>tfw the GM wanted to run a Wacky Races game in Fate, but the group wanted to play D&D so he sneaks it in anyways.
>>
>>48384868
>buy off gangbangers days before they kill the rest of your crew
>"so they're bros, right?"

Stockholm syndrome is real.
>>
>>48379902
You mean you didn't leave the portal open, forever having demons plummeting to their deaths?

Bad DM ;)
>>
>>48384907

IIRC, portals can't be opened within an area that's already occupied by something.
>>

Bruh
INFINITE food for the village.
Demon meat is probably delicious.
