Sick Beats Edition
Characterization Sub-Edition
Is there anything that can beat an Ordinatus? Also we talked about characterization, the consistencies of the books, and if it's Rowboat's fault for most of the Traitor Primarchs acting like edgy teenagers, a newfriend(I think) asked lore questions, we saw the ultimate Blackshield list, one WE Anon showed us his conversion and Scoria Anon is nearly done with his Scoria plus much more in the last thread >>48299601

Speaking of changes, is there a point taking the gun upgrade for the Falchion? Maybe if there's other super-heavies about to nerf their D weapons (can only snap fire), but the fact that if you don't penetrate or wound, you are in danger of losing hull points seems like a bigger drawback.
>>
>>48315188
It's a 1/36 chance for a falchion to suffer a hull point when firing. If you know you face things like Typhons or Sicaran Venators I would definitely say its worth.

Though with the caveat that according to new fluff the MkVI was in prototype testing before the Heresy and some primarchs wanted to see it fail. In the old fluff its production started around the time Horus was rolling through Sol and after he took Mars, they distributed the suits across traitor legions as well.

But yeah, all legions can use them just fine. RG is probably most famous for them. I think Alphas had them in notable quantities as well.

Anon, please. I can only hope I can get my Tyrants and Havocs. And for them to say that Tyrants are in fact, an elites choice.

Even though I'd probably never end up using them as troops in a Pride list. Because I love Riding the Ironfire too much. Also, why does the Elites spot have so much stuff I want to take, yet the only things I really want in the Heavy Support slot is artillery and Havocs?
>>
>>48318578
Making Tyrants HS is a bad option from a list diversity standpoint, as well. It means IW who want to include their special units--which is most players--but don't want to use Hammer of Olympia--which, again, is most players--are going to have a HS section that will almost always look like
>Tyrants

If Pride of the Legion Tyrants are a problem, give them a rule disallowing their use as troops, don't fuck over the Heavy Support section of the Heavy Support legion.

Because you are a true Iron Warrior?
Elites is always a hugely contested slot, that's why so many of the Rites make things troops.

Two idle questions while we wait for the doors to open (~15 mins as of this post)

Anyone got any experience with Shattered Legions?
Seems like it might be a good way to start multiple legions if you know you like them but don't want to try (or pay for) doing multiple simultaneous legions

That's a pure copy/paste typo from the previous edition. It doesn't mention the new Iron Circle units, either.

It was a stupid change to move Tyrants to HS instead of Elites, but it seems like it was purely aimed at shutting down the Tyrantwing list as it was one of the cheapest ways to build a pretty large (by points) IW army. I can't imagine why else they would have done it considering how many amazing units already fight for HS slots.

Havocs should be the elites, allows the same concept as your idea, and makes sense since they are clearly elite units due to their BS 5.
>>
>>48316947

To clarify a bit on what the other guys have said, it kind of depends on what army you want to play

Mechanicum have their own book, imperial army +knights have their own book, and the space marine legions have two books, one of which covers their generic army list and the other covers the legions and their special rules

If you want to play a particular army you need the book(s) which have their rules, plus the 40k 7th ed rule book, the missions/deployments are in the back of the army rule books

Melta bombs have been a situational thing in armys on either side of the Heresy for a while now, and continue to be. If your list needs some anti-tank spuzz and there's a unit you reckon will come within 13 inches of enemy tanks at some point in the game, through them on.

Combat Shields are basically making Assault Marines Mini-nators once they're in combat. Meanwhile power weaponry is fair value for granting a bit of sting without putting the unit overboard. Slapping both on a fullsize squad isn't cheap but it's entirely within the bounds of sanity as well. You can go further and put Apothecaries and ICs into the unit without crossing that line.
>>
>>48315171
I just flipped through the rules to see what you were talking about, I totally missed that. Frankly, here's what I'd do to Moritats:

- Remove the increased odds of Overheat
- Reduce the cost of a Moritat to 35pts
- Replace starting weaponry with Bolt Pistol, Volkite Serpenta and Plasma Pistol, and forbid all weapon upgrades other than exchanges for other pistols

- points cost in the army

GW sells their jump packs in sets of 5. They should be good, since similar style packs were used by assault marines in 1st edition Epic, set during the Horus Heresy. Been thinking about just getting them, maybe special ones from bits stores for the sergeant and apothecary.

Why is there only 6 slots in the AoD FOC? I've been saving that last slot for a Breacher unit (if we ever do see plastic MkIII), even got some conversion bits I want to put on them. Don't want that to go to waste, but don't like to have more units than FOC slots. Yet assault marines are cool now.
>>
>>48319552
It also causes a second penetrating hit on a 4+ if the first one is a success, I believe.
>>
>>48319506
It's excusable, we've had the new book only from yesterday.
Basically, hand flamers are not affected by Chain Fire so each one only hits once, and the rest of the pistols are limited to 12 hits in total.
>>
>>48319187
>48", S10, Ap2, Heavy 2, Exoshock. If you pen, roll a d6. On a 4+ you deal an extra hit that ignores cover.
Btw, does this mean Thanatar Calix' 48" S10 single BS4 shot (upgradeable to BS5 costing 310pts total) is now obsolete?
What is the Calix for, if S10 melee is also delivered better by Cortus and Leviathans?
>>
>>48319552
I guess the idea is that the autocannons may struggle against spartans etc. that are rocking psuedo-AV15. Haven't mathhammered it though, so don't know how much more useful those lascannons actually are.
>>
>>48319583
The Calix was obsolete on arrival. It's eclipsed now, but never did it shine bright.
>>
>>48319552

Also causes additional pens on a 4+ with no saves if you pen

A DA Ironwing Deredeo is basically the scariest thing ever, two BS 5 tankhunter Str 10 shots that cause additional pens on a 4+ while causing +1 damage on vehicle damage table will put down a whole hell of a lot of vehicles

And it can skyfire/interceptor, making it probably the scariest anti air unit in the game
>>
>>48318687
grab the exclusives off ebay, official ones that is. I bought Autilon Skorr that way, came in a FW blister and everything. :) There are people that buy a whole bunch of them for that purpose. There is a mark-up, but in my opinion it wasn't excessive.
>>
>>48319609
Seconding this, same experience, one Autilon Skorr is mine.
>>
>>48319583

The only reason, even back when it was first released, to own a Calix was because you though the model was bitchen

The las cannon should have either been a large blast, or heavy 3, or a single str D shot (since as you've pointed out it costs almost as much as a knight but has barely more killing power then a las canon dread)
>>
>>48319604

Eh, against jink you want number of glances, not quality of pens.
>>
>>48319031
Given that they had huge production difficulties with earlier variants of the moulds, I imagine they broke the model up into smaller sections to more easily ensure high quality casts.

The end result is a model that comes in many many more parts than originally, but those parts should all be straight, rather than resin pretzels.
>>
>>48319621
Large Blast is a tad far, maybe small blast and a 20pts discount
>>
>>48319621
I hope they update its rules for IA14. Like you said, the model is bitching and I really want to use it in 40k.
>>
>>48319603
>>48319621
Well...yeah. It was mainly a nice model but that was just it, lacklustre at both ranged or melee combat.
>Blast S10 Lascannon
Then it would suck against Spartans. Make the Solex Lascannon a D weapon, small blast.
At least the template graviton fist is nice
>>
>>48319671

Not really, it would still cost more then two vindicators base, which can pump out 2 str 10 ordnance blasts

as it stands its also more then twice as expensive as two laser destroyer vindicators, which can pump out a total of 6 str 9 AP 1 ordnance shots that are twin linked

The Calix blows, it does need a serious buff
>>
So with the chainaxe buff and Assault Marine points reduction is there even less of a point to rampagers
>>
>>48319838
Not the mention Apothecaries can also buy jump packs now. Footslogging? More like jumpslogging.

>>

>>
>>48319676
Valid point, I forgot about Blast shields. D basically seems to be the way to go.

>>48319793
Well yeah, you can bring up comparisons like that but then I can bring up the fact that the Calix cannot suffer rolls on the vehicle damage chart, can fight back in close combat and overwatch, has better range etc. . Apples and oranges, the issue is the lack of power (or juicyness if to maintain thef ruit metaphor). Regardless my opinion is now D Small Blast.

>>48319838
I gotta wonder now, I can't see any ways for non-World Eater legions to get chainaxes on universal units in the new book. Was it always impossible, or have chainaxes been removed from certain options?

For World Eaters at least, Power Mauls have been made completely pointless. I suppose if units could buy chainaxes for 1-3pts and mauls for 10-15pts it would be a no-brainer for other legions too.

Getting plastic MK IV jump packs is hard, no site that ive seen carries them. Youre probably better of buying sanguinary guard boxes and getting rid of the spare bits afterwards.

The only non-WE unit I can think of that can take chainaxes are SoH reavers, though theirs scuttlebutt that SW might get them as well

Honestly, it seems like the kind of weapon that IW should have access to, big savage cleaving weapons to go along with their big save artillery pieces

Yeah, see "universal units". Reavers are not part of the question. High density energy beams aren't exactly the Mechanicums strong point at this point in History.
Volkite guns are basically at the peak of what they can pull off in that field.
And even those are very high maintenance, temperamental weapons.

A focussed beam of plasma would be a serious challenge to them, plasma bolts they can manage, beams not so much, and even then overheating is a serious possibility.

And all of this is reclaimed technology for the most part, not developed or invented, just recovered.
It's better than it is in 40K, but they're still quite dogmatic about technology.

This can potentially down a Thunderhawk in one turn. That's not bad for something that could choose instead to shoot at a Spartan and wreck it in one turn.
