My clutter is real.
Finally got motivated to put all the beakies and shoulders from my stockpile onto a lot of the models that were missing them since I do those separate.
The Attack Bikes need shoulders as well.
The fliers on the right have burnt me out because I wanted to be a special snowflake and have one fighter mostly white and the other mostly yellow.
Not pictured are my 5 Landspeeders and 3 Darkshrouds that also need more heads and pauldrons.

The guns of my Landspeeder keep breaking off or take that whole blasted bar you clip the weapon onto with it.

I need to push through this so I can start on my B@C towards a Lions Blade.

>>runt trying to pry open a mine with a hammer
Or playing with that, a runt holding a stick out far back and to the side while looking away and covering his own eyes while he attempts to poke the top of a mine.
Or maybe have him without a mine, but still posed for poking and have a second runt standing on top of a mine so that first one can be poking the mine that the second is standing on.
Maybe a squiq with a runt hanging out of his mouth.
A runt riding a runttank (paper craft the tiniest tank) with a second runt manning the radio controls.
A runt trying desperately to pick up a gun way too big for him to lift let alone use.
Man, I wish I collected Orks.
>>
>>48306225

Just do it, you know you want to. They're probably the cheapest force to collect too, with thousands and thousands of AoBR orks still floating around waiting to be converted.

Tonights effort.

Never used white as a base coat before. Trying out preshading before I put the yellow on so hopefully I get some clean shadow and wont risk fucking up the final coat.
Doesn't show up super well in the picture but the shade is kind of brown so hopefully it isn't too harsh on the yellow.

Tried out my new wet palette and glaze medium too. Makes the white go on like a dream. I'd be happy to even try a white army doing it this way.

Why does Japan always add the wings to the hips?

Chi/Ki is meant to glow from the abdomen. So maybe that.

They also add wings to the head so maybe they're just fucked.

so that when you draw the character, the wings are in view without drawing above the character, also hips are sexy so they want to draw attention to them

Working on magnetizing a Contemptor Dreadnought for my Flesh Tearers. It's gonna be my first time working with magnets.

The places where the 3mm magnets will be placed are marked with red X's. Other than drilling out the holes for them, I got him all ready to get the job done; I'm just waiting for the magnets and Green Stuff to arrive from ebay.

I'm also trying to jury rig up a Nemesis Force Halberd for him so I can run him as a Librarian Dreadnought similar to >>48306177
, but it's gonna need a fair bit of Green Stuff to get it right.I really hope the result will pay off.

I got a few of the Dark Angels Bike Upgrade Sprues that I can steal some of those big ol' books from so he can look more Librarian-y, but I'm not sure the best way to attach it to him securely while still making it removable and not an eye-sore.

Any advice?

Also got my inquisitors in from Hasslefree Miniatures.

Really impressed with the quality of these. Only real problem is they look a tad bit skinnier than your standard 40k/Heroic Scale guys, but I knew that going in. They should make fine additions to the Army after I get to them.

Fixing up the edges/rim of the portal and picking out/building up some more colour depth. Also, might add some flecks of that Glow In The Dark paint.
Then I will lay down a layer of 'Ardcoat and then a couple lines of colour/GitD paint and once dry, some of the Realistic Water. Then I think some flecks of GitD paint again, and then another thin layer of Realistic Water.
After finishing painting and placing the Portal Horror in the pool, of course.

Pic related is the current backlog.
All have to have their Moldlines shaved, almost all have to be primed, and those that are already primed and painted need to be stripped and redone.

This is just a small part too, I got another 4-5 boxes this size to do too.

One is filled to the brim with more Space Marine/Blood Angels dudes (mostly HQ's, Elites, Bikes, and Dreadnoughts), one with ~80 Skitarii and a single Dominus, and another two or three with just assorted Space Marine Vehicles (3 Razorbacks, 2 Vindicators, 2 Drop Pods, and Land Speeder, and a Storm Raven).

anatomically speaking, adding limbs to the hips rather than the shoulder blades doesn't do much harm. The lower back twists but doesn't bend, it's also closer to a female's center of mass, and therefore maneuvering would be easier.

Tac squad number two.
>>
>>48307391
I am picking up B@C next weekend too start my Battle Company and I really hope I can find someone who will trade me a Regular Ven Dread for that monopose piece of shit Contemptor that I hate so much.

Perhaps I could trade it for Assault or Devastator Marines.

Are those Tac Marines all the same stance too? If thats from B@C it will drive me nuts.
>>
>>48307559
The Calth Tactical Squads and Termie have the same poseability as your standard Space Marines models.

Neither are monopose like Dark Vengeance models or the Calth Contemptor/HQ's, and thus you can get decently creative with how you model them. They also come with a fair load of extra bitz and bobbles to spice 'em up.

The 3 Tactical Squads and the 1 Terminator squad are worth the buy alone, the rest is just gravy.

I was really disappointed by the Calth Contemptor. The fact it's not only monopose but a shitty monopose just killed it for me.

Would it really have been that hard to give the legs even an ounce of poseabililty?
>>
How much stripping is enough?

Does the model have to be 99.9% back to plastic or do you think I could get away with a few areas having streaks left?
>>
>>48307847
it depends on how thick the primer/paint was, if it was thin enough you could get away with some recesses. (i don't think you can strip paint from glue, so check if those unstripped parts had glue,if they do you might want to scrape them away)
>>
>>48307847

If it clogs up detail, it has to go. Scratch it out with a toothpick

Painted over the warp-print-out with the blues completely covering the old piece, basically using it as a guide.
Added some key points of glow in the dark paint (with is virtually transparent over these colours) and dry brushed some up the lower portion of the inner well walls.
>>
>>48307847
I usually try to take it back down to the primer with little to no paint left on it.

If you leave tiny bits of paint in the details and crevices of the model then the next time you paint them up they'll lose a bit of detail.

If they lose to much detail they'll look like ass and you'll just have to strip them again, thus it's better to get them squeaky clean the first time 'round.

Just get some Simple Green, some tooth brushes, some dental picks, and just go to town on 'em.
>>
>>48307966
And charging the Glow in the Dark paint to see where it is at.
I think I will paint some more highlights of it in the dark in order to see exactly where I am placing it.

Have some space wolves and mkIV armor laying around and was planning on painting them. I decided to do some mockups in photoshop. Anyone be willing to give me some feedback?

Topmost is the classic pale blue-grey that geedubs always has them in. I'm not a huge fan, but it was a starting place. The metallic trim would be a gold.

The second group is in Legion gray but retains the same marking scheme. The metallic gold is switched out for a bronze.

The third is a slightly more subdued look - minimize the number of excess colors, but keep the markings intact.

The fourth is a more experimental take, using a restricted palette. Lose the yellow entirely, and swap out the brighter bronze for a more muted, pale brass. The pack markings have to change since yellow is no longer a color, but reducing the number of overall colors has the interesting effect of making the whole thing seem more.. utilitarian and war-like. The red also now pops more, being the only "real" color on the thing.

The fifth is an iteration on the last. It keeps the colors of the last but is also the lightest gray of the bunch. The red pops more, but more importantly I think the lighter color would give me more damage for weathering, damage effects, etc.

I'm thinking my favorites of the group are the third and fifth. The thing about their legion grey is that weathering is going to be an ass on it. With black armor you can do silver chips. With light armor you can do dark cracks. With grey neither really shows up well.

On the other hand, I might also miss the trademark yellow. I haven't decided yet. Though the limited palette has an interesting effect.

Either are fine as they are pretty close and you'll be building up layers anyway. A black wash would probably make them look even closer as a base.
If I were to pick one I'd go for the left as its a darker base to work up from.

Normally scouts are grey+black
Claws are yellow+red
Hunters are black+red
Longfangs are white+black
and WG are Yellow+black.

If you remove yellow and replace it with red, blood claws become pure red (which might not be terrible) but you'd have to do something different for wolf-guard not to be identical to grey hunters.

1 looks too busy because of all the small spikes, it's probably better to leave those weapons darker and make it look like a space weapon by having him stand alongside other dudes with flat weapons. 2 looks like someone tried to make lightning effects and failed and 3 and 4 look decent (bright spots are slightly too large/bright) but nothing tops the first picture you posted.

I'd say Legion full colors looks best. The red and bronze/gold feel necessary to create a dynamic look on top of such a drab gray, and to distinctly make them look like Space Wolves.

If you zoom out the image and/or squint, the restricted palettes and the subdued become a gray blob while classic and legion full retain the red focal point, and it also becomes hard to tell them apart from Carcharodons/Grey Knights/unpainted plastic.

I think it looks great as far as I can tell from the pictures, but it might look worse from a completely horizontal view or on the tabletop.

What's important is that even if he is leaning, it looks natural. The weight looks properly distributed onto the right leg since the body leans to the right while the forward lean and raised left leg implies movement, the slightly wider stance and the slightly raised left arm implies balance, the rotated hips and feet implies him turning towards where he is looking/aiming and not just walking straight while looking to the side, and finally his gaze is pointing forward and not into the ground or away from where he's aiming his weapon.

I am converting a grot out of night goblins, but the kit only has 10 free open left arms (archer arms) and I had to use all of them for my cannon crew (top right, no shield, as they only have a CCW and no pistol) I kinda cant tell if the grot with the shield and pistol looks weird or off. Aside from gaps/moldlines/barrels how does it look? I usually dont ask about stuff like this but I'm in a weird spectrum of "It looks good, but maybe not"
If it helps Im planning on painting painting them natural earth colour with biege/bone hoods, similar to my orks who are various shades of caramel, chocolate and tan browns

Using baking paper on a damp sponge (wet pallette) helps. Take the pant yo the point it beads when you drag it out on the sking paper, then add paint again until it -just- doesn't. I find that is a nice way to get consistsntly thinned paints.

How difficult is it for someone who has relatively little modelling/kitbash skill to magnetize an imperial knight?

I just bought a warden kit because I want to make a crusader, but I feel like I want to be able to switch out the thermal cannon/battle cannon and the rockets/AA gun on demand. Is it worth it to try? I'm scared I'll fuck up the drilling and ruin the model.

So I took the advice of Anon last thread and put a few more washes onto this guy, put a couple more layers onto the gems and repaired the damage done by holding him steady. You don't even have to magnetize the weapons if you don't want to. Just cut down the lip on the arm joint with some sprue cutters and you can snap it on and off with ease and it has no problem holding it. pic related

Hee, Devilgaunt, love it! Maybe give him a guitar, a la Tenacious D? On a serious note, you missed highlighting one of the chitin plates on his back, and all the ones on his head, and his gun. Might also want to throw some flock or sand or something on the base. Other than that, I like!
>>
>>48322536
Well, to really cure, over an hour.
You stop abrading paint off the model when playing by grabbing the base, yet, but your best best is to give them a matte clear coat once finished. Make sure to shake very very well before use, and do so at a max of 30-40% humidity (the less the better, especially with clear acrylic coats else you may get cloudy flaky results more readily than even regular spray paints).
But once you aren't risking touching the model itself while painting, Mr Donuts is correct and 15 minutes is more than enough. Much shorter realistically, but time flies while painting and most stuff is dry once you are ready to go at that area again.
>>
>>48322598

Yeah, snowy would look pretty great! Plus the cool thing about snow is that you can add a dab of watered red on there as a bloodstain, and it pops out a heck of a lot more than on sand or grass. Might also be an idea to drybrush with a darker red or a brown to give him some texture.

And don't be ashamed, we're all terrible to begin with I still am, pic related was my first model and I've not improved that much

Muchas grashers, Dennis and Gnashers. I thinhk I will leave off on the clear coat until I'm more confident in my spraying ability; the vyper and scorps I primed with white went all shitty and bobbly, and I think doing that to a finished model would make me flip a table. Thanks again friendo.

>>48322545
One, even with less than perfect lighting conditions, simply curling a piece of white paper behind the mini for a back drop will help us see it better. (A neutral gray sheet of paper can work well too.) Your paint technique looks very good from what can be seen in the photo. It comes down to color choices - and as the other anon pointed out (when he mentioned a bit of purple where the body meets the armor plates), don't use larger areas of a single color. Use hints of other colors in the mix - it looks more natural, and it's far more visually interesting to the eye.

How should I base my Genestealer cult/army?

I was thinking about having jungle-terrain bases, but considering that this would be my "horde" army, I didn't want to burn myself out on all of the extra effort.

I have a lot of space hulk models, and the Broodkin are supposed to be from a mining planet, so I was thinking a sort of mineshaft interior design? Bedrock and coal, maybe carbon crystals somehow.

I agree!
That is it, I am making two that will connect to each other on the battle field. Maybe standing stone arcs this time. Essentially the same, but like a door.
I already have an escape hatch in the ground of one terrain piece that has a remote hatch on a 30mm base that we use in a similar fashion.

Ah cool. If this wasn't already planned then I am glad I triggered the idea. This one has been great so really looking forward to a vertical one.

You need to have the legs of the horror walking into it so that he's half and half on each side.

>>48325177
That is a great idea as well!

what is on this goomba's head?
>>

My place is not as bad as this, but its kinda pointless to clean in the middle of something. 5 minutes later he will look for things he has just put away into a drawer or something and it will look exactly the same after a short while.

>>48325307
No, not really.
That is a lazy man's excuse.
All my tools are in draws beside me and frequently used items *organized* and in a holder right in front of me.
How many projects can you do at once? How many tools can you hold and use at once? It's just clutter and in the way.

A go pro I guess.
I don't think he'd need a mini light.

Any idea where I can find 28mm scifi-ish wall lamps? Like pic.

I need to get a bunch (and probably recast my own) for a zone mortalis board.
>>
>>48325481
looks good, but 18 colours? are you sure it was worth it?
>>
>>48325781
Zinge Industries does stuff like that.
He's uk based and has a ebay store too iirc.
>>
>>48325884
I don't see why not when I have them.
Dip brush in, apply to model, next colour, rinse, repeat.

Close. They're plastic decorative plants bought at flower shops and thrift stores, since the actual aquarium plants I've found tend to bee too long and brightly coloured for my taste. The rest is also made of similar junk. I'm pretty happy with it.
