It's D&D rules. You need a body, and the soul has to want to come back.
>>
>>48291155
A big one. Rez odds drop dramatically below 12/13th of body mass remaining.

Basically they'll have to find a top tier mage to perform the rez. Probably not even the gnome mage can do that. They'll have to seek out the insane elf sorcerer that created the dungeon.

Can't they just find a new body for her soul?
>>
>>48291231
You know, it's entirely possible those ARE her bones. The comic has not be shy about foreshadowing the realities of true death.
>>
I really, really want Farlyn to join the group already. And they better be eating some dragon next chapter.
>>
>>48291231
>>48291252
most evidence points towards that, her body isn't inside the stomach or intestines, and her staff was found inside the hairball. Logically, the rest of the body should be there too.
>>
>>48291252
I suspect she will be dead for realsies, the next step will be freeing her soul from the Dungeon.
>>
So, they're going to make dragon armor and shit. How are they going to take that stuff back to the surface? There's a whole section that's just undead.
>>
>>48291332
Maybe they'll run across the scrub party again and bail out together.
>>
>>48291247
It has to be empty or else they souls might mix up.
Then there's the problem of getting her in and not the original owner, who is understandably gonna be tied to the body, having a body that won't mentally fuck her up like a bearded old guy, and most importantly her being willing to move on.
>>
>>48291332
They don't need to.
They live here now.
>>
>>48291332
Why would they go back to the surface? They're clearly doing well for themselves as the new apex predators of this ecosystem, and they still haven't found Farlyn.

I'm going with what >>48291201 said. The side scene with the gnome and the city's leader implies that shit is going down around the elf that created the dungeon, so the manga will probably continue. If the party needs a stupidly high-level mage to resurrect Farlyn, they now have a reason to pursue said elf and keep the manga going.

>>
>>48291484

I forget the chapter, but the important thing to remember is that there isn't actually such a thing as resurrection magic.

No magic can return the dead back to life... under normal conditions. But for some reason, the planar walls are super, super thick inside the dungeon. Souls cannot make it to the other side, and instead remain bound to their bodies, even if the body is useless.

So resurrecting someone in the dungeon is just healing the body back to a functional state and letting the soul settle back into place. But that means you have to be able to get the body working again.

The less body you have to work with, the less likely it is that healing magic will be able to restore it enough that it can be alive again.

If she really is just bones, then her spirit is still bound to them but its really unlikely they will ever be able to heal her to a living condition again. There is even a mausoleum in the upper levels of the dungeon for storing the bodies of people too far gone to be saved. Kept there just in case someone finds a powerful healing treasure deeper in the dungeon.

Its a faint hope, but stranger treasure has been found.

I'm actually really disappointed by this chapter. Not because it's a downer, but because we're back to the status quo, story-wise. I was hoping the defeat of the dragon and Farlyn's rescue would change the script a bit, add a 'new' character to the party, make them find a new reason to keep exploring...

Now it's just "let's go fight the boss monster to save my sister" again. Nothing has been accomplished.

Wagering a serious guess for where we go from here on.

Farlyn is actually dead, and Laius realizes that both her death now and her troubles during childhood were a result of him dragging her around for his escapades. He doesn't break down, but instead finds resolve to improve himself and conquer the dungeon to either resurrect Farlyn or let her pass on. By the end of the series he'll be /tg/ deity tier.
>>
>>48291102
It's a red herring. It's a red herring right? Please be a red herring.
>>
>>48292805
This series is rather light-hearted. So I predict she actually got away from the dragon on her own and just lost her staff.
>>
>>48293079

She was being chewed on by a red dragon. Her last act was to cast the teleport spell.

I'm just saying, she's incredibly skilled with healing spells, so I certainly think it's possible. And as far as storytelling goes, making the climax (lol everything you did was pointless) is a bit shit.

Nah, I'm just imagining a daft scenario there. Don't actually believe it.
I think she's dead. Like, super dead and unwilling to return, but we're going to have a couple touching moments with her spirit before the end allows her to pass on peacefully after some climactic end about the nature of the dungeon itself.

After one last meal together, of course.

What I'm genuinely more interested in is everyone's favourite living weapon. I have no fucking clue what direction things are going with that and that intrigues me.
>>
Man, Laius is boss as fuck.
>>
Is it possible that Farlyne dropped her staff but herself wasn't eaten? Then the staff was later picked up by one of the Orcs who lived in this village before themselves being eaten? I have a hard time believing that we're just going to end the rescue arc on such a somber note; this is still a comedy afterall.
>>
>>48293390
If they can't resurrect her then the only other option they have is to conquer the dungeon and lift the curse so that her soul can actually move on. That's not pointless at all.

The thing that scares Marcille most is the idea of being useless, not being able to help her friends when they need her. This is why she's always fretting about her mana use; she always knows she should be conserving in case they need her powers later, but sitting out a fight without casting anything makes her feel useless. But running out of mana is even worse. The one time SHE proposed eating a monster (which she generally hates doing) was in order to re-up her mana.

She is looking satisfied here >>48290941 because she's relieved. Laius would have been a cripple without her. A friend needed help, help only she could give, and she didn't let him down. It's a good feeling.

All right, here's the plan, stay with me.

We take the bones, we surround them wtih the dragon meat. in the approximate shape of proper limbs allright? Then Marcille will heal the body and we'll try to coax Farlyn's spirit back into it.

It's like a skin graft, but with meat. It's going to be fine Laius, don't even trip.

Did you not read the chapter about how if you lose 1/13th of your body it's pretty much impossible?
>>
>>48295676
>pretty much impossible
that's not exact

implications seem to be the 1/13th is the line separating an easy res from a difficult one, not an impossibility.

Remember the burn't-out girl in the res center that they aren'r resurecting because of the _risk_ of it failing; they were ABLE to do it, just not WILLING to risk in -leaving it for someone with better skill. And she was burnt way past the 1/13th level. Corolaries being, 1) if it's risky, it's not impossible, and 2) a skilled enough cleric able to res WAY past the 1/13th is not unheard of.
>>
>>48290955
Holy shit, Laius is Dungeon Meshi-verse Kyle Hyde!

The answer to your third question is that we tend to associate weak meat flavours with the first weak meat flavour we come across, which, for most people nowadays, is chicken. Ergo, if it's meat without a strong enough flavour to clearly be its own thing, we go "oh, it tastes like chicken".

Why everybody is acting like Failyn can't be resurrected anymore just because she's a pile of bones now? Am I missing something?

Because the body needs to be relatively intact for resurrection to work. If the body is just down to bones the chances of success are abysmal and you'd need an epic-tier healer to pull it off.

You need a minimum portion of the total body mass, and what they've found isn't enough.
>>
>>48296257
The condition of her corpse is so poor that the chance of resurrection is quickly approaching zero. Someone severely burned was being passed over by an (assumedly competent) healer as being too difficult, so resurrecting someone that's just an incomplete pile of bones would require an impossible level of skill.

Thankfully there's a very powerful sorcerer somewhere in the dungeon.
>>
>>48296257
Because resurrecting her from just bones is way beyond what Farlyn, and probably anyone they know, can do. And that's assuming they find every bone, you'd probably need some century old archmage for that.
>>
>>48296364
This post sums up the whole thing quite nicely
>>
>>48296257

It's never been done successfully, the chances of resurrection drop sharply if you have less than a 90%~ish intact corpse, I can only assume it keeps going down the less you have.

>>
>>48315818

Huh...

That just made me think of something.

Suppose you're a very old, very stable race that lives a long goddamn time and breeds slowly. You're not going to have the same adaptability and variation that a short lived "fail early, fail often, fuck enough to replace the dead" race is going to have.

So what to do about this?

Make a short lived fast breeding race who's early death is a recessive trait. When you find some useful individual, breed them back into your own gene pool. With careful management the recessive genes can be eliminated in a few generations. You get all the benefits of having a rapid genetic turnover with none of the bloodshed or horror. As for your poor ignorant genetic randomizers, they seem to enjoy bloodshed and horror, and for those smart enough to figure it out are usually bred into the gene pool and are all: "Don't care, elf harem".

So Marceille, encounters this incredibly magically skilled human, bonus points, her bloodline also happens to contain an ultra-hardcore lunatic human tough enough to literally eat monsters for breakfast. She couldn't get legions of hot elf dick to Farylin before she got eaten, so is totally comitted to either getting her back, or the salvage operation, IE: Laius.

Marceille is fighting centuries of elvish lore and practice to not just hold Lauis down and fuck him raw so as to capture this high powered mutant human bloodline for the greater glory of the elven race.

Disclaimer: I am VERY drunk right now.
>>
>>48317457
Uh, excuse me, Marcille is pure, not lewd.

>>

She's absolutely pure. From a certain perspective. I mean obviously the elves assigned to service the handful of genetic donors lucky enough to be selected from the inferior human fuckbois and brood-cattle don't *enjoy* the grim task of capturing the genetic donation. That would be simply perverse. They do their duty of siring and bearing new half-elves with the quite Stoicism and endurance that is the hallmark of elvish civilization.

It's good.

Dungeon Meshi is still better. Because well first, it's about a dungeon and a dragon. Also, better art overall. And that worldbuilding.
>>
>>48323644
Dungeon Meshi also doesn't have an irritating CE halfling that's trying to teamkill all the damn time.
>>
>>48323937
Why does everyone expect every halfling in DnD media to be a CE teamkiller.
>>
>>48323964
Because they're trying so hard to distance them from the Hobbit that they've created an even more irritating stereotype.
>>
In 5e it any easier to resurrect someone who's just a skull than if you don't have any parts of them? Wouldn't they both require high level spells like Wish or divine intervention/DM fiat?
>>
>>48323964
That's not fair. Some of them also also megasluts.
>>
When will they get a cute kobold companion?

Chaotic evil.

"Chaotic evil is the most dangerous alignment because it represents the destruction not only of beauty and life but also of the order on which beauty and life depend. The major precepts of this alignment are freedom, randomness, and woe. Laws and order, kindness, and good deeds are disdained."

AKA the dickass thief or Captain Murderhobo.

no idea why didn't instantly make the conection with the alignments. Maybe because didn't play all that much AD&D. Thnx.

Additional: most of the time when someone's eating a weird or unusual meat, it's a reptile or amphibian. Snake, alligator, lizard, frog, etc. And those really do taste like chicken, because birds are closely related to reptiles. Reptile and amphibian meat is biochemically (and therefore taste-wise) very similar to lean bird meat. Turkey and duck are less lean than chicken, and have their own distinct flavor, but factory farmed chicken is as close as you can get to "generic reptile/bird meat" taste.

I've had iguana and gator, and they're basically just tough chicken.

I fell for the troll. Or, at least, I wanted to find out what he was talking about so I could decide for myself. I really like Dungeon Meshi, so I thought "hey, another dungeon crawling manga, could be fun!"

It's so bad, you guys. I don't usually condemn things for being "edgy," but Goblin Slayer is incredibly edgy and stupid. If I had read it when I was 14, I would have thought "god damn, this is some bullshit."
>>
>>48323253

Yeah, sounds like an Iajitsu build, all about that one perfect strike.

As opposed to Laius, whose strategy is more "Oh, you feel pain and fear death? Looks like I've got the advantage!"
>>
>>48324353

There are several bring-back-the-dead spells. In general, the more intact the body and more recently they were killed, the easier it is to bring them back (lower spell level, less expensive material component.)

Or you could play in my campaign, and fear the reaper.
>>
>>48291102
I'm betting that now they have to complete the dungeon to get a wish or something.
>>
>>48324802
I'm not quite that harsh, but I do use something like Shadowrun's essence system to determine what you lose when you come back. There's always a price. Serial resurrections of waiting until someone's begun to decompose to bring them back has consequences. Lost memories, psychological irregularities, all leading up to your body coming back but your soul checking out.
>>

>Or you could play in my campaign, and fear the reaper.
Sounds like your campaign isn't lethal enough. The only ones with reason to fear are those who have something to lose.

Hirelings were a thing for a reason, y'know. They're basically Paranoia clones that also help carry loot.

I'll be happy when people stop spamming threads about it on /a/. It's bad in a way that isn't enjoyable.

Probably why they recruited him. They don't have a combat specialist in their party. Marcille is the closest thing to a pure combat role in the group and
>>
>>48326219
I get the feeling that he recruited everyone else, not the other way around. Remember, they handed their resignation papers in to join another guild, they didn't dissolve it themselves.

So, Laius as the leader/primary tactician. Samurai and Dwarf as fighters. Marcille for offensive magic/ranged combat. Farlyn for defensive magic/healing. Chilchak for traps and stealth. It was a pretty well-rounded party, and they were confident enough to take on a dragon.
>>
Samurai is a Wizardry class, right? What can they do, other than refusing to party with Ninjas?
>>
>>48326505

Marcille and Farlyn were friends from magic school, Farlyn and Laius are siblings. Those three probably formed the guild and recruited the others.

Farlyn was the core, the heart, the person they had in common.
