Alright, assuming I wanted to be as fluff friendly as possible, are there any GW vehicles for the Legions I could get? Or are the Deimos pattern ones the versions to be used in 30k? Just wondering.
>>
>>48251763
Rhinos, Land Raiders, Land Speeders, bikes, etc.
>>
Can I just say fuck Rhino-pattern vehicles? I hate assembling that plastic chassis, it's an ancient kit and it's fucking garbage. It's even more of a pain in the ass to paint than it is to assemble, and that's saying something. Even with the Deimos siding it's still fucking god-awful. I can't wait for the kit to be redesigned, hopefully with optional Deimos and Mars plates to slap onto it for 30k/40k.
>>
>>48251831
yeah i fucking hate them too. the aesthetic is good but the actual models themselves are trash. they need to bring them up to scale.

New to the hobby, already have a direction, I'm looking for what I should steer clear of and want to know what mechanics are abusable. Mostly for homeruling purposes, I'll be playing primarily with my best friend, building narrative campaigns and the like.
>>
>>48252246
No legion is legitimately WAAC in any tangible sense. There are WAAC builds but just due to the fact that this hobby is so expensive they are untenable, and also I doubt your friend will let you get away with it.
>>
>>48252246
I'm going to trust that you won't be a cancerous spot but behold. Blood Angels megadakka can be very abusable. The megadakka is cheap and can be very hilarious. Unless your friend doesn't mind staring down the barrels of more assault cannons than bolters go for it. Just tell him he'll face the wrath of Zardoz if he does though. Just take a few assault cannons.

legions arent the problem. army lists are the problem. typhons, thudd guns with phsophex, medusa spam, spartan spam, knights, terminator spam, lightning strike fighters all have potential to be abused, among many other things. the new RoW where you just take a whole army of tanks would be easily abused.

alpha legion with alpharius giving everything preferred enemy (everything) would be pretty disgusting if you abused it by fielding like 40 plasmaguns.

Why are Rotor Cannons and HBolters so bad? I can understand Rotor Cannons, but not really with HBolters.

Also, the fact that were I to buy a pack of HBolters for Veteran Tacs, I'd most likely only end up using four of them, annoyingly enough, as to use all ten from two packs of them would mean to field five full sized Vet squads.

What are you guys working on? I got a couple contemptors and my legion champion on my desk.

I took the advice that I was given last time I posted and have tried to highlight my legion champ. I use zenith highlighting with my airbrush and the edges of the armour plates are weathered so I didn't do edge highlighting on the armour plates but I tried highlighting the gold especially. It's not noticeable from this angle with this light really.

Also I love Contemptors, especially cortus. What about you guys?

I'm new and don't own anything other than a couple pdfs I got from here.
>>
>>48253509
most newbies start off with a POTL list as you can use expensive low model count units to fill mandatory slots

When you get more vehicles and infantry then you can get into ironfire

I think the case could be made for Rotor cannons if your weapons don't penetrate the enemies armor save, Rotor cannons force saves over bolters due to number of rounds fired. If the upgrade is inexpensive then the number of shots fired may be beneficial.

>>
>>48254333
Homestly I'd love to have some MkIII IW squads like the IH have. You can't forget that the IW loved to build things, and an impenetrable defence was somethingn they liked.

Also because all they have right now is Perturabo and the Beep-Boops. Just hoping that the Iron Havocs don't cost more than regular marines with heavy weapon do, like how the Medusan Immortals cost more than Breachers, yet their models are nearly the same with the only difference being the IH iconography.

Is there any reason to choose a Thunder Hammer over a Paragon Blade on Praetors, other than for fluffyness?
>>
>>48254910
Concussive. It can be effective on Salamander Praetors who can't be insta-gibbed.
>>
>>48254910
Instant death most marines and drag anything else down to I 1 the following turn. Salamanders have little reason not to take them since they get a 3++ and EW anyway.
>>
I just realized that there are no left-handed Thunder Hammers.
>>
>>48255073
No, wait there is one in the MkIV power weapons set.

A shame it's more expensive than the other sets, as I only wanted the hammer to give my Praetor. Also, why does it come with two MkIII torsos?
>>
>>48255209
They're MKIV torsos with extra armour. They look the same from the front but the sides and back is different.
>>
>>48255286
Huh. Weird. Still mad about the Praetor arms though. Ah well, guess it can't be helped.
>>
>>48255073

You could convert one without too much trouble. The death company thunder hammer might be a candidate, it's two handed, but you could cut the top part off and add it to the left arm. Rotate it at the shoulder a little. It's a bionic arm, so probably fairly compatible with most marks of armour.
>>
>>48255456
I did this before I bought the MKIV power weapon kit, worked out alright.

>>
>>48256072
Where does this meme originate from? Without fail that is the first response when I post any progress pics of the knight
>>
>>48256097
There was a pic of a knight an anon posted a while back in the /wip/ thread with a tiny epic scale church on the base of his knight, and when someone commented on it he went full retard.

Then a while ago someone posted this. We now know how much church is enough.

Never mind, I must've accidently deleted it.
>>
>>48256097

A (fairly skilled) anon posted pictures of his knight, which had some snow-covered ruins on its base which somewhat resembled a church. When people pointed this out to him, rather than taking it in good humour and making adjustments, he sperged out about how it clearly wasn't a church, it was the wrong scale for a church, and idiot could see that it couldn't be a church, and everybody should shut the fuck up and stop calling it a church. He was baited back and forth across a good two or three WIP threads, good times were had by all (except church anon, who was saltier than a very salty thing), and now whenever someone asks what to put on a base or shows a picture of a large model, some witty anon will say that it needs more church.

Mars pattern Rhinos were a thing during the Heresy and one would argue Mars pattern predators, whirlwinds and vindicators would also be in use.

MkIII (plastic GW) Phobos Land Raiders can be seen in some of the HH books. Same with MkV (plastic GW) castaferrum dreadnoughts. Attack bikes and land speeders don't have FW models, so GW ones are your only option anyway. GW style bikes can be found in plenty of old HH art.

Or is Pride of the Legion worth it? Which rites are really shit and which are decent? I get theres a lot of variety and choice but I just want to lay out a plan for what to buy.
>>
>>48258077
Decide what Legion you're interested in first as different units are buffed by different Legion rules. Just a heads up that waacfagging is frowned upon in /hhg/ so questions such as 'what is the best thing' with either get ignored or abused.
>>
>>48258077
>>48258230
Some anon asked the same thing yesterday and everyone assumed it was WAACing. All he did was ask for a basic build.

Honestly for middle-of-the-road 30k lists just buy two BaC boxes and run all the contents. See if you can convert one of the dreads to mortis with 2 ACs
>>
>>48258230
How is /HHG/ still so fucking toxic to new players? You didn't even answer his question.
>>
>>48258349
>How is /HHG/ still so fucking toxic to new players?
We don't want it turning into 40k, plus I wasn't toxic at all. I I tend to help but I need a bit more info.

>You didn't even answer his question.
His question was vague so I asked a clarifying question back, what units or RoWs to recommend vary greatly depending on what Legion you want to play.

You should chill out a bit, not every question is "being toxic".
>>
>>48258314
>just buy two BaC boxes and run all the contents. See if you can convert one of the dreads to mortis with 2 ACs
See this is bad advice, what if they guy wants to play ravenwing or a tank company or something. The calth box is good but blindly recommending new players straight up buy two calth boxes is unhelpful and lazy.
>>
>>48258077

Pride can be worth it in a legion whose marines get some special benefit, that have some fantastic piece of wargear, or who can field special termies

So IF run god tier pride because of bs5 sniper vets and TH/SS termies that can sweep

I don't know if any rights are straight shit other then maybe that one breacher focused one, which is probably really good in ZM games

Praetors work as either a work a day beat stick to mulch other guys not particularly combat oriented characters or chewing through blobs with the help of their body guards/deathstar. Its almost always safer to just shoot an enemy deathstar apart then engage it in CC if your a legion that doesn't have some mad powerful melee lawn mower of its own

if your legion has access to some special way of getting MoTL, or a character that provides neat buffs probably use them (like running Rask, who provides an AoE shooting buff, in a reaping army, which is based around heavy weapon shooting)

two 20 mans is a fine starting point, but have some other scoring units, especially ones who can effectively move into the enemies deployment zone and cause havok/take points

mostly just try to run whats cool and fluffy, and even though the best kinds of games are the ones where both players aren't pulling any punches, try not to be too overboard with optimization
>>
>>48258472
Because he asked for a "standard build". Theres nothing more standard to work towards than legion squads termies and dreads.

Once you have those basics you can move into whatever RoW or organisation you want, with the exception of the more specialised RoWs, like ravenwing or tank companies, as you say, but he didnt ask for those, he asked for a standard build.
>>
>>48258555
Thanks, that's pretty much all I wanted. What about any of the support squads? Im not sure if a squad of plasmaguns or meltas is worth it at 5man sizes are they?

Honestly Im not looking at much more than the basic crusade list, I play SW and they don't have any special rules yet, but I was considering using the blackshield rules.
>>
>>48258608
SW will most likely get CC advantages so going with BaC isn't that bad an idea as you get boltguns, pistols and ccw for everyone.

Support squads will in most cases get dead as soon as possible, so increasing squad size is usually a must.
>>
Anyone know where I could get some luna wolves etched brass? I really hope to convert horus and wanted to cover up the eyes.
>>
>>48258608

IMO, if I wanted to run a support squad it would basically only be for backfield objective camping with volkite guns, in general I have a bad history with plasma guns and avoid them like the plague unless its on a 2+ platform or a vehicle

if you think you will very desperately need anti 2+ save units you could take a vindicator or medusa, or if you want to absolutely nope one very expensive unit with your own very expensive unit, seekers with combi-plasmas in a LR (to gain scout) with PE against whatever you want to nope will probably do the job, and afterwards they can run around with bs5 and special ammo capping backfield points (since new FAQ gave them implacable advance)

A Thanar Cynis, because it's a fucking sweet machine.

Since Russ will be finished and probably on pre-order, maybe a preview of an upcoming character, e.g. Ahriman.

I imagine that the Red Scorpions will be taking a lot of space though since they are the poster chapter for bringing 30k shit into 40k, but fuck em.

It really depends on the legion, since they get different buffs. It helps if you narrow it down to a few legions you're actually interested in and then asking about them - the 1d4chan article is pretty helpful for starters. You generally want two 10-20 man tactical squads and a contemptor or two, but the rest (and how big your squads should be) is legion-dependent.

I'm not a fan of 2 BaC-box builds. Too much infantry and not enough heavy weapons for the number of points it gives you. Two boxes worth of teminators and two contemptors can work fine, but 60 tacs is often too much.

Two boxes gives you 8 missile launchers, 8 heavy bolters, 8 plasma guns, 8 meltaguns and 8 flamers. You should be able to make support squads with those.

Nothing stops you from turning them into other than tacticals.

THE HORUS HERESY - LEGIONES ASTARTES: AGE OF DARKNESS ARMY LIST
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-NL/The-Horus-heresy-legiones-Astartes-Age-of-Darkness-Army-List
replaces the Legiones Astartes Crusade Army List book (and is currently on pre-order).

THE HORUS HERESY LEGIONES ASTARTES: AGE OF DARKNESS LEGIONS
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-NL/The-Horus-Heresy-Legiones-Astartes-Age-of-Darkness-Legions
has the currently available Legion special rules (and has been out for a while now).

HH Book 6 contains additional Rites of War and the initial rules for the White Scars, Blood Angels and Dark Angels, a later Red Book (a follow-up to the Age of Darkness Legions book probably) will roll them into the rest of the set.

My apologies for the all caps titles, but FW decided that those needed to be in caps for some reason.

Jesus Christ anon.

>Anacharis Scoria (315)
At 1250 points I think most people can agree this is pretty absurd, you are effectively bringing a primarch to what's barely a 1000 point game. Couldn't you start with a less expensive warlord and drop them down to second in command replacing them with Scoria at higher point levels?

>Tech Thralls
Honestly doubt your ability to successfully hold any objectives. They will instantly collapse in an assault and die very easily to even mundane bolter shooting.

>Castellax with Darkfire Cannons
Is this your attempt at anti-tank? I mean you shouldn't need much at such a low point level but Darkfire cannons only pen AV 12+ on a 6 IIRC which is hardly reliable if you are only taking two. I would suggest something like thallax with meltabombs and possibly tank hunters. Also can hold objectives better than the thralls thanks to T 5, 3 wounds, and FnP 6+.

Honestly I'm not sure whether to look at this as a poor attempt to be OP or just a weird obsession with Scoria to the point where you spend 20% of your points on him at low point levels. My honest suggestion is to drop Scoria and add him in at higher point levels if that is possible (don't play escalation) if not I would probably drop the castellax for some thallax with meltabombs. Any more saved points can be reinvested into the thalls to give them FnP or just add bodies.

Any fine particulate is a carcinogen if you inhale it. What makes FW resin bad, is the way in which it breaks off the piece when you sand it, its very sharp. FnP WEs arent safe footslogging since they only get the +1FNP in the enemies deployment zone, which they wont live long enough to get to.

Now that's a nice looking model. GW put up a tutorial for painting SoH if you're interested in it.

>Never heard that, As far as I've seen SoH were the original spiky marines while the Word Bearers made curved horns fashionable.
Could be true. I've seen pics of both with spikes, but they just looked more in place on the IW to me. I always thought it was SoH= Topknots, WB=Daemons, runes, and horns, IW= Spikes and Decimation.

Y'know, now that I think about it I think I read somewhere that IW and SoH started to use spiked bonding studs around the same time.

Yeah I saw it, not too impressed.
I'll be using my airbrush so I got FW's airbrush paints, I just needed a lighter tone for the final zenithal highlight.

As for the spikes, I've seen both SoH and IW wearing them, though in both the FW books and Visions of Heresy they seem more prevalent with Sons of Horus.

I do wish FW released spiked shoulderpads, I'm way too autistic to use 3rd party bits.

>>
>>48262790
>>your whole 1k army list is just 2 primarchs and a handful of veterans/terminators
You literally cannot field them both at 1k assuming Omegon costs anywhere near as much as Alpharius. Even at 1500k your army will be a handful of tiny vet or terminator squads that can't accomplish anything before dying.
>>
>>48260192
30k is literally no better than 40k anon. You got to remember, the 2nd big wave of players on the boat were the chaos players who loved their cheesy ass 3.5 edition Codex (and haven't shut up about it since), who were the Tau fags of their time and are still, to a man, insufferable
>>
>>48263207

>>
>>48263262
At least it isnt as imbalanced. The worst legion can still hold their own against the stronger ones.

In a game between orks and eldar with players of equal skill and experience, the eldar will win 9/10 times
>>
>>48263262
I, for one, am an Imperial Guard player. I was going to do allied Chaos Space Marines until the new allies matrix kicked me in the nuts, so I gave up and just went with Militia and Traitor Legions instead.
>>
>>48263321
Truth.

The online community might not be any better, but I would rather have a game closer to balance and a shitty online community than an unbalanced cluster fuck as well as a shitty online community.
>>
>>48263347
I just gave up on CSM after 4e codex and started using Codex: SM for my traitors. For one it made sense since they were later fallen Marines and GW themselves said, for example, in WD303 that it's perfectly fine to use Codex: SM for non-legion renegades. And lately I've been able to use IG as cultist allies and thanks to Malefic, I can even summon daemons.
>>
>>48263299
Well first off they would need to be the same HQ slot or something because Primarch's chosen removes your Lord of War. Second off Alpharius costs 415 points. Double that for 830 and it leaves you 170 points to spend. A naked five man vet squad costs 125 points meaning you can't get the minimum 2 required.

Know what's nicer than shit pdfs?
Actually owning models.
Feels good.
>>
>>48261601
Phosphex rule is stupid. Just make it so that units hit by it must move next turn (to get away from the burning shit/put themselves out) or make dangerous terrain tests for all the models. After that the stuff has no other effect.

Laying down 51 markers of moving dangerous terrain a turn is just insanity I'd expect from Ward.
>>
>>48263321
Which is nice, I grant you that.
But eldar faggotry and Tau fags are now just Spartan deathstars, phospex everywhere, and Mechanium. Fluffy lists might due SLIGHTLY better here, but the WAAC is just as strong (example dual typhon lists, etc).

The idea that GW would deny any new channel for vast profits if a competitor might slightly benefit DOES sound like something Kirby might do. That was his exact response to the asswhipping CH gave him, after all. But at this point, I'm sure Rountree will heed his bean-counters and seek EVERY opportunity to reverse the company's tailspin.
