is khador winter guard gunline a thing?
>>
First for Magnus was right.

For now yeah, riflemen are good.
>>
How do you avoid getting shot up in this game?
>>
>>48180694
Shoot more, first, from further away.
>>
>>48180694
Gunlines pretty much dominate the current meta, so... anything that can negate shooting is what you need.

Unfortuantley you may find yourself running the same casters/locks agian and again until your meta changes. Someone like Gunnbjorn or MacBain again and again.

Not a great situation, but what else is there to do?
>>
>>48180694
If the internet is to be believed, you can't because gunlines are literally the only viable thing in the game now despite most melee units either having bigger threat ranges, high DEF versus shooting, or high armour.

Yeah I'm shaking in my boots over here with my DEF15 against shooting infantry. Oh wait you're the only person who can buff their infantry, oh fuck guess I lose now because you're an internet theorycrafter who can't comprehend that everyone else has spells too.
>>
>>48181386
I mean, 5 rat 8s with rerolls and 1 rat 7 is going to chew up a good bit of a def 15 unit.
>>
>>48181481
But that's not good enough because once I'm in melee you can't realistically shoot me.
>>
ITT:dickwaving theorycrafting faggots
>>
>>48181499
You're right, no one has ever shot another model in this game because they're always in melee.
>>
best way to deal with non sloan gunlines is just cloud city. Cloud walls remain incredible at threat denial since the enemy can't even run a chump in and have everyone charge him in the back, and denying 100% of shooting that cant get away to ignore LOS.

the other way is to just bring abilities that outright deny shooting, like barnabas' swamp pit ability, or gunnbjorn / zerkova1s feats

Or you can just join the winning team and play sloan and obliterate all the lesser gunlines from further away than they can shoot with free boosted to hit shots
>>
>>48181386
10" charge +quicken
10" range
4" snipe minifeat

Double up CRAs for rat 8 with rerolls at pow 14 will hit roughly 70% at def 15

If you waste your turn running into them, they'll just assault charge next turn for 22 pow 12s.
>>
>>48181651
Assault doesn't work that way
>>
>>48181651

can you CRA during an assault? i didn't think you could, but i get rules wrong all the time
>>
>>48181651
Since I'm fully aware of your huge range I just ran towards you. If you're ever shooting at your opponent from 24" away, they've fucked up horribly and handed you the win. You get one volley off before you're engaged, the range is largely irrelevant.

And if we're allowed buffs, I get Quicken too. Even RAT8 with rerolls doesn't do great against DEF17. You'll take out a couple before I charge into you. Heck I was using Keltarii as an example but even Nihilators would be fine. You'll take out 70% of the 5 models you get, but since you all came forwards for the range, my remaining 6.5 models will cleave your asshole in two.

I honestly cannot fathom why people think they can magically sit at their maximum range and pop shots off without their opponent just gunning towards them. Your max range doesn't mean much.

>>48181733
>If the target is not in the charging model’s melee
range after ending its movement, the charge fails, but the
model with Assault can still make the Assault ranged
attack before its activation ends.
>>
>>48181855
No shit. Maybe you want to read a little further?

>The model cannot make an assault attack if it is in melee with its charge target at the start of its Normal Movement.

If he runs into your guys you can't assault them.
>>
>>48181737
You can't addualt and CRA its a choice between the 3 inches or CRA bonus.

You also have to charge someone your not in melee with to get the assault shot. Ussually this means charging someone next to the model currently engaging you
>>
>>48181891
Nihilators can't assault. What the fuck are you talking about.

If you're up for some DIY, you can make a decent enough carrying case yourself. Grab yourself a big, cheap toolbox or something and then head out to Joann's or Michael's or Hobby Lobby or whatever the equivalent is for you maple munchers and pick up some foam (pic related) to make trays out of. It's not really that hard.

These videos about Skorne are great and you should probably all watch them since he raises interesting points and they're free content so fuck it.

That Handlers no longer force you to charge means you can get an extra inch of throw distance and a little extra damage on the throw, and also means you can let your beast face exactly where you want it so they once the first target dies, you can hit a second one because you weren't forced to directly face the first target. He fucking nails it on the Cyclops Raider though. 9 points for a ranged light with shit damage output, when for 8 more points you could bring a Cannonneer who has 1) the same animus, 2) WAY better damage output, 3) higher range on her gun, 4) higher MAT, and 5) much higher damage on the initials.

Never prioritize slayers when playing against cryx. They are just a distraction and you should target the satyxis raiders instead.
Do not target sea witches and sirens, your shots are better spent elsewhere.

I played in a tournament and got shot in the face a lot=three games lost, I finished 9th out of 9.
Played Darius twice (against Skorne, scenario points and CoC, caster kill) and Haley 1 (once against Legion, caster kill). Either those casters were poor match-up, I play bad, or the lists were weak. Almost reached the point of wanting to sell all my WM stuff and buy more Infinity...

I finished my second to last tournament in Mk2 with a 3rd place and won some games every now and then, so I think I am not a beginner. That game is silly sometimes
>>
>>48195638
>Losing to Skorne
HOLD THE FUCKING PHONE WHAT
>>
>>48195597

You can, but you can't just throw in 4-5 warjacks with any caster and expect it to work. I think Khador is still one of the factions that will take less jacks than the others, but you can certainly now take 3 and not get punished for it. Also there are definitely a few casters in Khador where you can take almost nothing but jacks.
>>
I have been playing a lot of khador since mark 3 came out. I play a lot of karchev and I feel like I can easily field 4-5 heavy jacks and still have a decent list on the table. I tend to take cheaper to mid cost ones but it doesn't feel like a huge stretch to do it. Your milage may vary. Also people have reported success with jack moderate (2-3 heavies) with vlad1 and heavier jack ists with butcher 1-3 and strakov
>>
>>48195638

Darius into Skorne and Haley1 into Legion seemed like you chose your lists pretty poorly. Fighting big battlegroups with no damage buff is one of the few things Skorne excels at. Legion frankly doesn't give a fuck about Haley1. Sure Temporal Barrier is great but you're forced to get really close with the faction that is known for assassinating from halfway across the board.

Got a shot at trying mk3 out today. Unfortunately the only two boxes available was the Khador and Legion ones, and it was greatly unbalanced. I tried my hand on Legion twice, and got my ass handed to me. The third time I tried Khador, and soon realized as to why.
Hell, we even joked around with a "well ok, but if I was retarded and created a free charge lane for your heavy and your caster on a feat turn", but I rolled a 6 for my though....
I get it, the boxes ain't there to show new players balance, its there to show players a little bit of everything. But I tell you, if I was new to this game, and this was my first impression (hell, just imagine if Legion starter was my first purchase and a friend got the Khador one....), and especially after hearing about "how pp made the game balanced again", id drop it like a hot potato. Now I know better than to judge the game from such a small scale, but that Khador box is strong when comparing to others.
>>
>>48195533

no way is sloan a trap for new players. you have to drop her into the right match ups, but in a Sloan/Haley2 pair there isnt a single match up in the game where one of the two doesn't have game, even if it gets list chicken-y

Maddox "upkeep heavy warcaster who sits in the back while the list beats face with damage buffs" is not how i would describe cygnars playstyle

Ragnor is actually pretty good, which puts him at odds with trollbloods normal playstyle of "lose games"

>Legion
Kryssa doesnt even really do anything.

in comparison the ones that do:

>cryx
okay this ones actually pretty accurate, the playstyle is "be bad" suits cryx pretty well actually

>CoC
accurately represents the CoC playstyle by not getting a box, to prepare future CoC players for the fact they'll never get any more releases beyond the conflux

i'm sure i didn't cover them all, and i didnt intend to, but you get the point
>>
>>48198435

This >>48198453

In all truth though. The Khador box was silly in comparison to the Legion. It was literally "ok, but If I LET you charge me with all that you got, what will happen?", and still a Khador win...

The legion, sure it showed "I'm fast", but it also showed "I don't know synergy to my box and I got pillow punches". All the while Khador showed "I go 2 of the heaviest Jacks to keep close to my Worcester, I have synergy and I hit like a brick! Oh, my downsides are low speed and no pathfinding... which I fix with spells and feat turn".

Trust me, it wasn't as much a showcase of how the army play, but more of a down right butcher. Just look at the profiles of the two casters and their spell list, its almost to the point of silly.

Kyrssa's battlebox is pretty weirdly built overall.

Shredders want flank buddies yet the Boltthrower not only wants to avoid melee but actively knocks targets away from them. Beatback on the Neraph can lead to newbie mistakes where they can knock the target out of the way as well.

Kryssa's feat is also wasted on the Bolthrower, and to some extent the Neraph since it's a cheap pillowfisted heavy in a format that's got a lot of high armor targets.

You pretty much have to bank on caster kill with it, using bolts and the Neraph to clear a path and have Kryssa herself user her spell boosted charge range to zoom in there.

So I just band wagoned into khador.

How does one make a butcher 3 list? All I can think of is greylords for cloud protection, widow makers to clear some charge lanes, ruin and IFP. Do I need Saxon for pathfinder? Are black dragons worth it? I still have 40 points to play with and I don't know what I want
>>
>>48203627
Pick up an Ogrun Bokur
>>
>>48203627

you build a wall of jacks, then you cross the map with that wall of jacks.

with the nigh unkillable butcher3, with his long threat range and vengeance now triggering on damage advancing behind the iron curtain, it smashes a lot of puny lists
>>
>>48199452

The main problem I had with it was the fact that the Khador player could boost up to 10" threat range on a feat turn, with pathfinder, immunity to knockdown and so forth. So while he was supposed to be slow, but retaliate like a sack of bricks, instead he came rolling down the tracks like a train on full throttle!

That 10" threat destroyed everything, as it meant only the Heavy in the box had the advantage of an alpha with its 11" threat. The speed nerf to shredders hit incredibly hard in my opinion, sure flank is nice, especially during her feat, but not at the cost of not getting the alpha strike.
The one thing that did good was the bolt thrower. That guy could actually make a world of difference now! But I get it, vs another box the Legion one could probably do fine. Whats bothering me is that the Khador box had so few downsides, thats all.

Honestly not sure what PP is doing with Trolls in Mk. III.

There were a lot of models ripe for positive change (Winter Troll, Skinner, Night Troll, Jarl Skuld, etc.) which were either made worse or moved laterally for some reason.

Madrak-2, Calandra, Gunnbjorn and Grissel-2 are pretty much the only warlocks worth playing in Trolls at the moment. Most things in the faction are just so bland and boring. We can win, but man, I just don't know what PP is doing anymore.

The model is a heavy heavy kit, make sure the center of mass is on the base and you should be fine assembly the monster.

>Kryssa's feat is also wasted on the Bolthrower, and to some extent the Neraph since it's a cheap pillowfisted heavy in a format that's got a lot of high armor targets.

Wait how is boosting a pillow fisted beast out of being pillowed fisted a waste? That's what it's supposed to do. If you're trying to say it's a waste because it's pillow fisted well there's nothing that can really been done about that at this point. The box is what it is.

However I will say that the box is a bit better than most people give it credit for. The box has a lot of movement shenanigans that can be userd to set up an assassination run. Between beat back, vortex and thunderbolt you can push/knockdown the jacks that are in the way of the enemy caster giving kryssa an opening. And with quickness and she can get up to 16" nonlinear threat range. With feat she's hitting at ps 16 and at worst she'll be dice minus 3. She also has criticized sustained. Which you shouldn't count on it but by boosting the initial charge attack you stand a decent chance of criting. It depends on if you have to use quickness or not but even if you spend the max on it you still have decent odds of killing any of the battle box casters.

Brand new to Warmachine here, where exactly does Menoth fall on the power ranking? How about Cryx?
>>
>>48212372
No one really knows how things are panning out yet, the edition is too new.

Menoth took some nerfs in their old tactics, but a lot of their new shit looks great, while Cryx got hit pretty hard, what with being insanely good in Mk2.
>>
>>48195485
Can someone spoon feed this retarded baby, and explain why they're in those tiers? I heard from Warmachine players at my FLGS Cryx were busted as shit.
>>
>>48212407
Oh, okay. Thank you anon, see, Warmachine is fucking gargantuan in my area (40 players on the last night they played), and I'm getting into it from a 40k player, who used to main Orks, just didn't want to jump into another bottom barrel tier army.
>>
>>48212407
Also, is the Menoth starter box any good? I was also interested in Gators.
>>
>>48212440
Well, in MK2, the power levels were much closer than in 40k. Even a bottom of the barrel army(in MK2, minions) could still pull a win at even a major event.

On the reverse end, there's a pretty big learning curve to the game. It doesn't matter what army you pick up, odds are you're going to lose a lot of your games starting out.

Mk3 has done some crazy things, and people are seriously trying to figure their shit out at this point. Good players are still going to rock, but there's no concept of a meta at this point, so no one has any idea of what's going on.

>>48212463
I don't know too much, but I generally think Menoth's BB is one of the weaker ones. The caster in the box scales super well to full point games, but on the reverse end, he is a lot weaker in the lower point areas.

Honestly though, there's so much for you to learn that any BB is fine. I don't think any of the BBs are straight up broken, though again, I haven't looked very hard.

>>48212417
In Mk2, they were, so it might be old info.

Right now, it's panning out that shooting got insanely better in Mk3, and Cyngar, Khador, and Ret are three of the best shooting factions in the game. Khador is especially notable, because one of their casters(eIrusk) looks to be beyond powerful, with not only the tools he needs to be amazing at a ranged game, but also having tools to fight off people who try and counter that.
>>
>>48212417
Cygnar, khador, ret
cygnar has access to very potent gunlines (i dont think they belong in this tier)

khador has tough jacks with retarded infantry removal potential and casters that turn infantry up to 11. They still have butcher who can kill you very effectivly.

Ret has bane knights, good gunline potential, fairly decent casters. New cryx.

Menoth, CoC, Circle, Mercs

Menoth- i have no idea. They have good jacks

CoC- good focus management, relativly unchanged. Would bump down a tier due to (un)popularity

Circle- still have effective movement shenanigans, great casters, great beasts, access to wrong eye.

Mercs-many spamable jacks i guess?
*cygnar, cryx and minions belong in this tier

Cryx, Legion, trolls, minions

Cryx- less powerfull, less flavorful, lost 2 of the best casters in the game. Still have bane knights. Still potent would bump them up

Legion- going through restructuring, also lost 2.5 best casters in the game

Trolls- #designspace.

Minions- are bonkers retarded. Should be higher. They have great beasts, great support.

Skorne- #designspace

Week 2 khador journeyman, added a berserker, vs cryx that added night wretch.

I went second and feated at the bottom of 1. Ran my jacks up, but had the lead one where if he harpooned it it would still be just toed into my control area. So he does that, parasites the juggernaut, puts both heavies into it, and it survives with 7 boxes, breaking movement and left arm. Juggernaut then wrecks the slayer. Berserker charged into the defiler and tied it up. Hit with one boosted swing and took a big chunk out of it, passed the roll to survive. Decimator landed a solid hit on the nightwretch and did like 10 damage to it. Next turn, nightwretch shoots the decimator and breaks its gun, his caster kills the juggernaut, reaper charges the decimator and left it on like 12 boxes with the cortex and right arm still functional, deathripper fails to do anything to the berserker. Berserker takes more swings and kills the deathripper, with a boosted attack and then a second hit rolling a hard 9 to hit. Kozlov fully loads the decimator and puts fury on it, who then puts 4 swings into the reaper and kills it. Agathea charges into the decimator and kills it, kozlov charges her and kills her.

So, my thoughts on expanding my khador jouerneyman.

Week 2 I added a berserker.

Week 3, I think I'll add a min unit of black dragons and a greylord ternion

Week 4, I switch to Irusk 1, fill up the black dragons and add a UA, Gorman, Widowmaker Marksman, and Ogrun Bokur.

Week 5, drop the black dragons back down to a min unit so I can add a full unit of shock troops and kovnik

Week 6, put the black dragons back to a full unit, add in Harlan Versh.

I think Versh is a good choice here because it gives me a source of pretty accurate anti-infantry shooting on the cheap that this list is lacking somewhat. I expect the greylords to be busy putting clouds out to protect my objective to get many sprays in. But I could be persuaded to replace him with a caster attachment option.

Any advice with that? So far my journeyman league has 2 khador (counting myself), 2 cygnar, 1 ret, 1 trolls, 1 circle, 1 menoth, 1 cryx, 1 skorne, 1 legion, 1 cyriss.

why black dragons over anything else?

how are you wanting to play? (playstyle/tactics etc)

guessing bokur as shield guard, do you not have a better option for this?

not suggesting jack spam, but, you don't want more jack?

sorry, i don't know reds enough to really say, but if you share what you're hoping to achieve tactically etc
unless you're just wanting to do the generic shit up the middle of the table with something that doesn't die to a cold fart and smash things when and where you can "tactics".
in which case, sure what you've described looks like it'll do a decent job.
or better than decent because red goes faster.
>>
>>48218542
There are currently two shield guards Khador has access to. A bokur, or Rutger Shaw with a mercenary jack.

For the journeyman league, weeks 3 and 4 are mosh pit scenario, and so greatly favors a list that has something like pikemen that can just roll up the middle of the field. And black dragons are stupidly effective against jacks and beasts thanks to precision strike and fury/battle lust. Was considering instead of greylords having a min unit of shock troops in at week 4 to leverage scenario more.

3 heavies is plenty for khador.

What to get a Rhan list?

I find my Hyperion a lack-luster in mk3, and Discordia looks damn well worth its points and more now! Do I trade, and save up some valuable points in the process?

Infantry, base of mages of course, but to fill the list up I was thinking on getting a unit of Halberdiers with UA. Together with Discordia these buys will feature a 20 arm vs shooting with immunity to blast. Ad to this Polarity Shield and you got yourself a block of fuckers annoyingly good to be in the way! They also feature a threat of 11" with pow 14 (one round), and I really feel you get a run for you money on these guys.
Or would Sentinels be the better option, I know they are a great choice in mk3 by all standards. But they also come with a price tag, and I don't know if they benefit Rhan as much as the cheaper alternative. On the other hand, these guys brings the punch on the heavy stuff! And boasting an impressive arm 19 vs shooting (discordia), immunity to blast and being un-chargeable, they do actually pose a real threat in just about any game.
Whats your opinion /tg/? The Cheap cock-blockers, or the more expensive heavy hitters?

Don't take black dragons, the pikemen are kinda on the bottom tier of Khador infantry now. They are still good, but everything else is better.
There are more useful in-faction things than Versh and Bokur. Get the faction models first. If you want cheap anti-infantry shooting, take widowmakers, they're like the most staple Khador unit on every list.
Manowars only work with kovnik, you are correct to take them together.
>>

>PoM deck is missing 1 new UA and 1 new solo
A lot of the deck PDF's didn't have cards for things that are new or were unreleased at the end of Mk2. Depends on whether the source was a playtest deck or a proof for printing.

I think the only new cards that haven't made the rounds at this point are the ones for Ret and Skorne.

This model is just pure gold to the KE unit! To bad about the pricetag though, think 4 points would have been more justified to such a small unit.

On the subject of missing cards. I cant understand how anyone in their right mind goes and buys a deck of cards after the blunders and misprints Privateer Press, already in early release-state showed us. Further more, after revealing that they will constantly "update" cards they deem to powerful or to weak, also suggest we will se regular updated decks that one would have to purchase yet again after a while.
Get the app, its far more worth it in the long run.

Can a Skorne player, or anyone for that matter, explain to me why Skorne is so bad?

In MkII I thought they were a great faction even though the internet seems to malign them. Locally, all our Skorne players are pretty excited about MkIII. I've looked over the faction but I haven't made an exhaustive analysis of it. I think they seem good. Not top tier, but they don't seem bottom barrel shit, either.

I play trolls, for what it's worth. I think power wise we are about equal with Skorne (so decent, but not great), but I think we are way more boring. PP shitkicked our variety and flexibility so we're forced into only a couple of compatible builds. Last edition, barring the two dumb theme spams trolls had the most well balanced stable of warlocks in the game and there were very few auto include pieces. Not true anymore.
>>
>>48224551
tournament to learn the game?

against the autistic semi-literate arseholes that play this gaem?

not sure about that.

single tourney around my way. fullsteam. so i guess is semi-competitive compared to other tourney types.

even so. having to pay to play my first games is a tad gay. but prizes would be nice. participation "prizes" even.

>i shouldn't have to talk to my PG, my PG should have to talk to me:
"hey, hey buddy, i've got that good crack. you wanna try?"
>>
>>48224697
I hate paying for tournaments so much in a game like this... I know it's for the store and all...but have a free tourney and no one even shows up.

It makes me feel like players only play if they can get a little dosh out of it.
>>
>>48224693
Skorne has one complete caster and a lot of half casters. Aside from Rasheth their toolboxes are simply incomplete, sometimes preventing them from doing the basic things they intend to do.

A lot of the models in the faction simply fulfill no role at all or fulfill it poorly (12 points and 1 Fury per turn to get Sprint on your caster? YAY). A lot of models are simply worse copies of other models in other factions.

The faction relies a lot on unit- and solo-based buffs, but once you have enough to buff a model to "worth mentioning" the effective cost of that model end up being ridiculous.

>>48224697
>against the autistic semi-literate arseholes that play this gaem?
Well fuck you too. I don't think we need your kind in this game.
>>
>>48224752
Sounds to me more or less EXACTLY what trolls have complained about for years.

A stable of models with underwhelming stats or overcosted that are assumed to all have buffs from our bloated support line on at once. Funny thing is that in the pre MkIII insider for Trolls, PP basically mentioned that concern and admitted in part to keeping Trolls in MKII hamstrung for that buff/balance purpose.

Nothing really changed in MKIII, though, They just put our beasts and several units through a blender and cranked up Madrak2 and Gunnbjorn.

Sorry Skorne player. I know your pain...
>>
>>48224752
Well he's got a point on the autistic end. Warmahordes players are renowned for being anal retentive with millimeters of movement around here.

Also for only showing up to tournaments and leaving the poor PG solo on casual and new player generation events.

I don't know. The easiest way to describe Warmahordes players in this area is more "Self Serving" less "Community". Towards the end of MKI start of MKII we would hang around after the game store had closed to discuss a whole bunch shit. Now it's just dead silence and "GG" with the newer players.
>>
>>48224801
>Sounds to me more or less EXACTLY what trolls have complained about for years.
And I heard they still complain about it. And it might be true. I guess MK3 has somewhat amplified both those problems and the rage surrounding them. We expected our shit to get fixed and instead it got fucked.

Which is sad, as I'll really enjoy playing my Cygnar in Mk3, which aside from a few outliers are pretty well designed currently. Now if only the same care went into Hordes that went into Warmachine in MK3.

>>48224845
>Warmahordes players are renowned for being anal retentive with millimeters of movement around here.
That is a good thing. Being exact is NOT autism, it's a requirement for a clean game.

>Now it's just dead silence and "GG" with the newer players.
Total opposite around here. It's expected that you play to win (except maybe against really new players), but most games have more of a B+B atmosphere to them.
>>
>>48223877
Okay, what in faction model that is currently released has shield guard?

That's correct, none of them. Irusk is too fragile, he needs a shield guard. My only other option is spending 10-11 points for Rutger Shaw and a mercenary light.

Black Dragons have an incredible amount of offensive power because of Fury and Battle Lust with the two casters I'm using. Two of them charging into a heavy jack with precision strike is enough to blow out the cortex. Which infantry is better exactly? Rifle corps is their only real competition and both Irusk1 and Kozlov buff melee, not ranged.

To get the widowmakers I'd need to drop 4 points, meaning I either need to sacrifice gorman or the marksman.
>>
>>48224663

This is EXACTLY the reason it's nice to have card images or PDF's. You can keep the updated set in a small file and on any device, and if a physical card you want to use gets an update, just print it and slip it in the sleeve.

We're most of the way there, as was mentioned above. As far as I know the only cards that haven't been circulated are the newer Skorne and Ret stuff - Venator Dakar, Karax UA, Desert Hydra, Healer, House Ellywwyllowrrll Swordsmen, etc

>Okay, what in faction model that is currently released has shield guard?
The Rager drops in like 2 weeks. If you have a tourney this weekend or something, just sub in a pair of Bokurs (Or bokur + 6 of anything) to bodyguard him and know you're going to need to swap them out.
>>
>>48224883
It's autism when you can't read your opponent's intention in a casual game or purposely badger someone over an extra mm of distance. I know a guy (really timid) that just shorted himself distance everytime he measured to avoid getting heckled and keep the game going.

IMO Theres a time and a place for super precision (IE mm precision) and that's with like minded players playing a tournament game. Squabble then, because at least there is some money on the line there.

I'm just glad pre-measuring is finally putting a stop to this shit.
>>
>>48225007
It's a journeyman. You can't replace models. The rager doesn't drop until july 31st, which is week 5 of this journeyman. And I don't particularly want 4 heavies, 2 of which are berserker chassis.
>>
>>48224845

The big problem with Warmahorde players are players who migrate from GW games for the wrong reasons.

We have the right type of guys, who are tired of playing a Beer and Pretzel game where no one actually follows the RAW, and your a bad sports if you don't let your opponent cheat every once in a while.
They join the ranks of a great game, that has excellent support for Tournament play, and finally they don't get called WAAC players for bringing a good list to the table, or getting yelled at for quoting the rule book, or by simply following the simple art of measuring.
In contrast, these are all things that are welcome here. Most Warmahorde players I have met looks up to players who knows their rule book. They like strict and fair players who follow the basic structure of the game, no matter the outcome. And they have no problem of facing of a good list, because they have the same options to chose from as the next guy, and experience counts for much in this game.

On the opposite side of the room stands a guy who left his GW for different reasons. Maybe he just grew tired of his gaming group, perhaps he grew tired of the models, or simply wanted to try something new. This guy comes in to the game with his 40k´ish mindset that everything that beats his list is OP, and he is not afraid to call you out on it! He starts his games by ranting even before it has been set up. Nagging along on how inferior his list is compared to yours, and how your deployment was more beneficial (even though its completely symmetrical!), and that he has no chance to win this game! This of course is all in preparation if an actual loss would occur, when he can safely say "told you so!". Playing this guy requires a mountain of un-official moral rules and standards, not anything written, you just need to know what to do and what not to. This is the guy who has a hard time accepting that 8" is actually 8", and not 8.5".

To conclude, its a game, follow the damn rules.
>>
>>48225017
>It's autism when you can't read your opponent's intention in a casual game or purposely badger someone over an extra mm of distance.
That's not at all what this is about. If your heavy has a charge range of 10" and I placed my heavy 10" +1mm away from it then no you can't charge it.

Conversely, if I place my heavy randomly somewhere on the table and it happens to be within 10" of yours, then feel free to charge ahead. I was too stupid to check your threat ranges.

Premeasuring has not put a stop to precision, it has finally made it possible. I can ask during my turn "Do we agree that my Defender is more than 11" away from Tiberion?" and if my opponent agrees to the measurement (possibly involving me moving the model a few mm back, within legal bounds of course) I can be sure Tiberion won't charge my Defender next turn.

It's all about transparency and communication. Any negative situations that you refer to can be avoided by just talking to your opponent.
>>
To fit the widowmakers and rager in, I'd need to do something like this:

Week 3, black dragons

Week 4, max shock troops, manowar kovnik

Week 5, rager, black dragon UA. Going to try putting the rager on the kovnik and seeing how that goes.

Week 6, widowmakers and 5 points of something else. Kell probably, maybe alten ashley or a mortar.
>>
>>48225208
>rager
Is really not mandatory. If he doesn't fit in your list just take the bokur.
>>
>>48225219
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I just don't feel comfortable dropping the greylord clouds. Weeks 5 and 6 I know I'm going to have to block LOS to my objective from a titan cannoneer and catapults or else I lose.

Still trying to decide if I want to bring widowmakers or harlan + gorman. 75% of my opponents are warmachine so rust bomb is huge, and blind is huge for dropping circle def.
>>
>>48225248
>Still trying to decide if I want to bring widowmakers or harlan + gorman.
Kell is already a definitive part of the final list? If so go for Gorman + Harlan. Or maybe even Gorman+Ragman if they really bring a lot of heavies.
>>
>>48223188

Anyone else think she is a bit to pricey for a 6 man unit? Especially now that infantry is much easier to handle. Id be ok with the price, or rather, she would be a steal if the unit was 9+ leader, but it ain't. And this UA costs more than half the fucking unit alone.
>>
>>48225305
The list with greylords and bokur has a marksman instead of kell. Greylords + bokur is 12 points, so lets me upgrade the marksman and kell after adding the rager.

Dunno how many heavies I'll see. Since it's a journeyman league, most already are going to have a heavy and 3 lights by week 3 and I don't expect to see many adding more onto that. mainly just the troll player adding a mauler, and one of the cygnar guys was talking about putting in dynamo.
>>
>>48225191

This!

>>
>>48218663
that's patently false, the rager a six point heavy has shield guard.
>>
>>48225191

If you measure all you want and tell me that you put your model at exactly 10.1" away, I'll be like "yeah w/e"
Then you'll remove all your fucking widgets and other assorted bullshit that have no reason to be on the table.
Then I'll measure how far your model is, and if it's 9.99" it's in charge range and you can hissy fit and piss on the floor and even roll in it if you want.

Just because you state something doesn't make it fact, because premeasuring.
>>
>>48225191
I ain't takin your word for it nigga. I'll measure that distance myself. You might be blind or an idjut, or trying to trick me.
>>
>>48225191
It put a stop to imprecision in the sense players can actually measure something accurately before moving. Prior to this you always had a hawk eyes on your tape to make sure you weren't getting or measuring anything past what you were allowed to measure. There was no trust late MKII. None.

I agree, play RAW but if a player mentions that he intends to use this unit to screen against ranged fire (of which the only way to do so is to have the screening unit b2b) and you find an iota of sliver between two bases... then maybe something is wrong on the other side if the table for once.

Trust your God damn opponent in a casual game and discuss what may have been wrong afterwards during a lull.

MKIII finally put an end to it because you can now measure from the opponents model and say "I intend to be X + .25 inches away" without anyone causing anyone else to cringe for once.
>>
>>48225648
>>48225670

vehicles?

to what purpose/end?

you mean like battle engines and warjacks? because a jack is a walking tank.... a steam powered walking tank....

if you mean like transports, then i dunno. that sounds a bit retarded. but could maybe just maybe be an idea.
squishy transport vehicles, that die to a mildy unkind glance, but can move a low spd unit like a spd buffed cav. with no offensive capabilities. can maybe pop smoke, and provide cover until destroyed - which is super easy to do.

hyper-conditional design-space vehicles. maybe.
>but we have steam powered perambulating tanks already. and battle-engines.
so there is no need.
>>
>>48225849
>Vehicles in warmachine
Eh. They kinda tried this idea with Battle Engines, and DESU it doesn't really fit. Don't get me wrong, always thought the steam tank idea was cool, but WMH armor is really all about the 'jacks/beasts. Large bases kinda robbed the game of some of its focus.

If you want to run something like a tank company in WMH, you can actually do it... Khador can show up with 2x War Wagons and 2x Siege Crawlers (74 pts and both easy to make legal tank conversions out of), plus a few 'jacks to suit. Don't know if it'd be that effective, but it would probably be something to look at. =)

I think people are upset about it being 1mm precise.
If I where to say the exact same example but say, I'm placing this 1cm outside your threat range, no one would have a problem with it. When the measuring sticks are out, a blind could see that it clearly isn't 10", but its not 11" ether.

But most people on /tg/ are right, you truly are the face of autism. If your opponent is such a good sport he involves you in his thinking process and explicitly express "this model is beyond this distance, look" and laying out the measuring tape for you to look at. Then agree upon for both players to adjust to.
After this, there shouldn't be a discussion about it, unless you spoke earlier or simply refused to participate in selected parts of the game. If you disagree after a move like the one in the example, it only shows you truly are just a pathetic man without integrity.

Trying to decide on a battlegroup for Madrak2.

So far I'm looking at:
Bomber+Pyre
Bomber+Mauler
Mauler+Pyre+Impaler

I like have some ranged guys in the battlegroup to make good use of warpath and clear charge lanes or potentially assassinate. Bomber is great for that. I flip flop on the idea of the Mauler because I'm not sure how much armor cracking I should stack into the list. Not sure if Blood Fury'd Fenns will be enough all the time. Having Far Strike and Flaming Fists are nice for Madrak himself to tackle different offensive options.

I know I want Fenns and Warders in the list. They seem perfect for Madrak2. Is the Kriel Stone worth bringing with him for the arm 21 Warder bodyguards? Or is that a gimmick and more offense is worth while?

Correct answer is sell your Trolls and go play a real faction

If you're determined to play garbage tier factions take Mulg, Mauler and an Axer so you have beasts that benefit from the feat.
>>
>>48226638
Can't senpai. I've been playing trolls since I started the game 6 years ago. I own almost everything for the faction anyway and no one wants to buy trolls. If I sell out of trolls I sell out of the game. None of the other factions appeal to me in model range or fluff. Minions and Mercenaries a little bit, but enough to start up those factions.

Trolls are the faction for me. They're perfect except for their sadly boring and awkward play style.

I don't know if reach beasts are really worth it in the list. Infantry, solos, and Madrak himself will make great use of the feat already.

Reach beasts like Mulg are better than beasts that don't do anything with the feat

no, jacks are robots, they have legs. Tanks have treads. Perhaps there can be a compromise...
>>
Yet again i requst help with High Reclaimer/Testament. Which units/jacks do i want to run with that guy?

Only initial here, however why are you only running One Vassal and only 2 Jacks?

I have to say however, I love Gravus with Kreoss.

Because eKreoss benefits greatly from massed attacks, as his feat is a one use button.
Thus he will gain more from the feat with a unit of infantry weapon masters, rather than a single heavy jack for the same price. As his spell list is a bit of a lack-luster, and he no longer has armor piercing himself, you kind of play him for the feat alone. His ability to also grant Tactician [Exemplar], also give the hint that he benefits greatly to take a lot of these units.
I used to run a similar list in mk2, but then only took FoS. Now that the points have more than doubled, Id stick to the minimum, and still get double the jacks I used to run.
Not to sure about the Castigator, never actually was a fan of it, as its *Attack isn't bound to the weapon, its a shame really.

The vassal is actually points-leftover kind of guy in a list like this. Sure I could go with another Fist for 3p, but I only own one, and he´s cool enough on his own. Besides, how many Empower do you need when you only run 2 jacks?
Now that Focus shield ability is greatly gimped, you have no reason to camp all that focus as you used to. Ad to this that you benefit from 2 free focus for the jacks alone, and you should be all good.

Working on Tanith list ideas. Current idea is using melee solos as scything touch missiles before my beast line hits. The Night Witch and White Mane especially, since with scything touch as long as they keep hitting, they keep killing. This frees up the Reeves to focus on heavies, throwing two RAT 17 POW 19 CRAs at something before my heavies go in.
>>
>>48228895
If you're running a feral you dont need a gorax. Also the night witch, or whatever, doesnt have reach wich makes pac-manning more difficult.

Have you considered double reeves?

Also I think double wayfearer is the way to go. You really want free charges
>>
>the only cards that haven't been circulated are the newer Skorne and Ret stuff - Venator Dakar, Karax UA, Desert Hydra, Healer, House Ellywwyllowrrll Swordsmen, etc
Hey Anons, anybody seen any of these cards? Dug through the archives a bit, but no luck.
>>
>>48229096
Don't own double reeves, didn't own single reeves until this edition. I do think a second wayfarer would fit well instead of the night witch though, and maybe swap the gorax for a second argus. You can do some really nasty things even to heavies with reeves+argus, with or without scything touch. With scything touch, load the argus up with it and primal, charge and deal an effective P+S 20 hit, then fire with CRAing reeves (due to their officer) into the heavy twice for two effective POW 21s.

Not a circle player, but why not Bloodtrackers? They look like a better jamming unit, and can clear out problematic troops/solo's with prey. I agree the Gorax is superfluous when you already have the Feral. Although it's a little redundant with the feat, the ability to arc rift on non-feat turns with a Gallows is usually useful.
>>
>>48230882
90% of lists I agree, blood trackers are the better choice. With Tanith specifically, she has affliction with deals a point of damage if you fail to break armor. So with 2 shots each you could in theory do 20 damage to a heavy or a battle engine e which is pretty nifty.

You could also do 2 pow 19(?) CRA shots which should be taken into consideration
>>
I may be misremembering, but wasn't the Castigator's Combustion not boostable in mk2?

Skorne is bad because you can take just about anything in the faction and find something else for the points that makes it look laughable. Maybe with the exception of the gladiator.

Most of their casters don't bother asking really hard questions, either. A lot of them have straight up non existent feats, like makeda 1, makeda 2, hexy 1, hexy 2, and zaal 2. Very weak spell lists as well.

The exceptions are makeda3, naaresh, and rasheth as pretry capable casters.

Cataphracts are pound for pound worse than Mano war or the CoC heavy infantry. A lot of units do one thing or the other, neither well, and can't do them at the same time. Immortals can become incorporeal for only the turn they're active, and ferox can either jump or charge and receive damage benefits, not both. The sentry's str buffs only last one turn (not a round) and with the low pow retalitory strike and only three fury, you'll trade down over a couple turns more often than not.

What Skorne is good at is armor skew until your agonizer dies, then you have a lot of models that are just worse for more points. It's as simple as that.
