Probably would have been a better question for the last thread, but I'm thinking of making a team combat medic. I'm not entirely certain if I want to go magic or mundane, what do you guys think works better for building a support role?

You use spellcasting and count your successes, limited by the force of the spell.

You then resist drain determined by the force of the spell.

Everything's just so vague and nondescript, and yet at the same time there's so many specific things to do.

>>48167975
everything you want to do is what magic does. log tradition would work better if you wanted to also be skilled at mundane healing, demolitions, matrix stuff and fixing stuff, while a cha tradition would be better if you wanted to use leadership to boost allies and be the face (or at least an of-face).

>>48168045
magic really isnt that complex. you cast spells using the same pool as everything else, and different types of spells have their own characteristics which the book explains fairly well. spirits are kind of annoying because the book layout makes finding their powers tricky, but once you do they arent much more complex than anything else. alchemy is shit so you can just ignore that completely and buy your foci.

Vacation time just let out and I already miss it. After a frankly terrible espionage job overseas in Guam, the team got to spend three days in a fabulous luxury resort relaxing on the beach, relaxing by the hotel pool, playing golf and one of us catching a trid of some of the last bits of fashion week streamed right from Paris. Once the resort staff got sick of dealing with us, we scored a pretty sweet milk run: bunch of frat guys hired us to do a panty raid on a sorority house. Talks were had, surveillance was done, job was performed smoothly, we robbed the boys at gunpoint because fuck them what are a bunch of polo shirt-wearing fuckboys from a state university gonna do about it? It was a fun, relaxing week.

Point is, tell me about the fun times, /srg/. You know, the runs that are the equivalent of the cast of "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension" getting the script to that movie and realizing they were about to spend a whole movie shoot getting paid to have as much fun as they possibly could. Running the shadows isn't all running for you life from corpsec or staring down insect shamans. Sometimes you just gotta kick back and blow of some steam, and if your fixer can find that fun for you, all the better. After all, if you do a job you love you never work a day in your life.
>>
Since Onis have +1 charisma does that mean that the type of onis in shadowrun are the sexy oni you see in some anime? (guys are handsome and swole, girls are fit and hot)

Or do they fluff that as some sort of overwhelming presence or something? Run faster book isn't very clear. All I know is that they're bright red, blue, or orange, have horns, and elf ears.

Hey /srg/
Strange little query:
What's a "normal" shadowrunner alias/handle.
I had my current one with the alias cassidy butcher, as an obvious reference to butch cassidy.
But, I don't know if that's a normal thing for shadowrunners to do, have their aliases be full names.

TwoDee immediately springs to mind, as do all the other runners from the storytime he did, so I feel like it's not the right thing to do.
Pic is something I just chose at random, but sundowner also seems like a pretty good shadowrunner alias, now that I think of it.

>>48172984

What do you guys think of these:
>Deviant
Both of her brothers (who are both older) went on to join lone-star and be corrupt pieces of shit, repeatedly berated her for being such a deviant. Might be shortened to "Dev"? pronounced the same.
>Medusa
saving for my next runner, a shaman with green dreads
>Blitz
She's "lets slot and run, you pieces of drek" 80% of the time
>Flak
Like flak jacket, or giving you flak, ect
>Itch
like "itchy trigger finger"
but I'm not a huge fan, makes me think of an std or something.

sorry if they suck, I'm bad at names period, and it's late

Criticism for the guy shilling his story in the other threads:

first: too much vacillation. almost everything i read was along the lines of: Jim was a normal guy, if a guy could be normal, but no one is normal so Jim is weird for his normality, but then if everyone is weird and Jim is weird for being normal, then i guess Jim is normal, but weird, but normal.

second: holy thesaurus, batman! not EVERYTHING needs embellished. Most times, the dog can chase the cat. the soot-grey dog with the bristling mane and hungry, dripping, wind-flapped jowls doesn't need to frantically chase, like a drunk 97 year old man, who lost all his friends on Normandy Beach, trying to put out the fire on his dick after he fell asleep smoking, the cat.

Indecision, rambling simile, and verbosity might be traits your narrator has, and thats fine, but it is tedious to read and makes for an unlikable character.

third: run-ons and comma splices EVERYWHERE. stylisticly fine on occasion, but terrible as every sentence or in every paragraph.

Hey Chummers, got a pseudo-heist run, but instead of stealing something, we need to get data on an artifact held by an art dealer, mostly video. Security on the estate is crazy, crazy tight, and we're Street Level. Our tentative plan is to sneak in during a huge party on the estate, posing as catering (3 of the party) and bodyguards for a guest (2 of the party, the party lead and myself). My thought is to rig everyone up with micro-cameras (throwbacks of course), and the party lead and I with tricked out glasses (Image link, Vision Enhancements, etc.) and try to get footage of the artifact, samples of it if we can risk it.

Details on the estate: 30 Active Private Security, all ex-military, high level guys, we have names and faces of 11 of those. 2-4 Mages, unknown capabilities, unknown identities. Knight Errant on standby, <1 Minute response time. Ground sensors, overlapping cameras, long sight-lines outside the house proper. Sewers are secured by KE as well. The one entry/exit outside of being invited are the docks at the back of the estate, and those are still pretty secure. The estate is neighbors with two other estates, and in the past, thieves have gotten off the estate, into another, only to be grabbed by the other estate's security.

We have a 4000 Nuyen stipend for expenses, 2000 of which was in advance (and spent on our NPC decker), and each party member was given 3000 Nuyen in advance, with a promise of another 3000 if the job goes undetected.

We need as much data as we can on the artifact, and we don't have a huge window.

My questions to /srg/ are as follows:
Do image-links record data?
Can Contacts hold a single sensor, which is a camera, be converted to throwback, and still have the data able to be retrieved?
How can we protect our kit if (when) Security's Decker notices it? I don't think they'll hassle the two of us posing as bodyguards, but for the others, my first thought is to just make all the cameras throwbacks.

I welcome any suggestions.

I can see what you're saying, and I know a lot of it is negative from most people's viewpoint. As said, it's unedited, which means that I write down everything I can come up with to keep the flow and work up a large amount of raw material. It's going to lose about a hundred pages if I ever go on a serious editing pass.
I'm also writing it to fill out something I'm missing - atmosphere and ambience. One thing that really rubs me the wrong way is the writing style that more or less goes "He went to the center of the town, which was filled with high-rises. Then he went into an Italian restaurant, where he ordered a plate of pasta and ate it. It was decent." To get around that, I'm going completely overkill the first time around and then planning on cutting in it later - if I have to think about the value of every description or metaphor when I'm writing it, I'll stall and not end up writing jack shit because I don't get into a routine. I feel that it's better to go a bit too heavy on the descriptions than too light - you might make the content harder to read, but it's there and you wrote it.
It's really written for people with the same kind of autism as me, and I understand that it's too much of a brick for most people - I mostly wanted to crank out something that I liked, since there's a chance that other people would have the same kind of autism. I underpitched it for a reason.
The comma splices and run-ons are my fault, though, and I admit it. I can't shorten my sentences or boil them down without seeing them as the clumsy ramblings of a retard with the vocabulary of a travel parlor and the attention span of a gnat. I get carried away easily, too.
Basically, thanks for the criticism, but most of those things are either my (slightly autismal) intent or something I know I need to get rid of. I can't get rid of the run-ons, though, because I would just stop writing and not come back to it.

Charisma is based almost entirely on presence, their "aura" and that kind of shit (charisma effects shaman magic remember). If you make a troll with 1 charisma, there's no reason to assume he isn't handsome enough to be in Playgirl if that's how you want him to look, he just is less likely to be propositioned to do it because he doesn't give off any personable qualities and when people look at him they think "bland nobody asshole who can frag off."

>>
>>48169382

Yeah. The waste I was talking about was that arms and legs have a too high availability if you try for Max Troll physical stats + some Enhancement on them.

Less of a problem if the skull is used for the base and the GM lets Restricted Gear apply to the whole thing. Then you can just trick everything the fuck out. Just make sure that everything's slave to the decker's deck and that they're running high sleaze. But at least your razors and spurs are going to hit like a goddamn nightmare.
>>
>>48171765
In a straight fight, there's only a few very specific builds of Techno that can really stand up to a decker, and it's still going to be lucky. One is a techno juicer that uses custom drugs (or Cyber-singularity seeker, but that's really too much of a specialty build to be talked about here) to stand around with 10 Will, 10 Firewall, and whose first action each turn is FMD. The other is a high-edge human Techno.

But that guy's probably better off dropping large amounts of Edge to get huge Sprites and have them hack. Or save a favor or two for extra dice on a simple low level form, edge that, and hope for luck.

Now, if you're willing to drop a point of essence or so into augmentations, you can hide better, among other things, and so make it a little harder to bring things into a straight fight. Still not the best result, but at least one submersion lets you connect in all situations that you would have before.

And if anyone can figure out where wireless handshake range is, that'd be even better.
>>

Is it just me or is attribute boost in 5e pretty much best to take only 1 point?

>Magic + Attribute Boost Rating Test. Each hit on this test boosts your attribute rating by 1, up to your augmented Attribute maximum

No limit listed so magic is a much bigger contributor to how much of a boost you get.

>drain=level of attribute boost
so with 1 level you only take 1 drain

and it only costs 0.25 power point!

0.25 and a simple action to get on average +2 to an attribute for .25 power points seem like great deal to me. That 1 drain is always gonna get resisted anyway.
>>
>>48176841
Nah, you want at least two levels of it, split over two attributes. That way you can use both Simple actions on boosts (body's nice).
>>
>>48176949
Oh yeah, that makes sense.
Boosting body and agility right before a fight is a pretty good idea.
>>
in 5e astral beacon seem to give too many points for what it does.
+10 karma for having your signature lasting twice as long (when you should always scrub it away after using magic regardless, and if you didn't, you're fucked even without this quality), and mere -1 to the threshold to gather information about it (when any competent corp mage will find you if you leave your signature -1 threshold or not).
>>
>>48176841
Yeah, you only ever want to put a single point into each Attribute Boost you take. Just remember that it gets unwieldy past too Attribute Boosts, because then you're losing more than one combat turn on getting magic swole.

Except you won't always have six complex actions worth of time to scrub away each force 3 spell you cast with if you have Beacon. Or eight and force 4, ten and force 5, and so on.

The -1 threshold is there because means that as long as they didn't fail the assensing roll, a memory roll to recognize the aura is always a chance, instead of needing 2. Flexable Signature is also made less useful by it (you're basically counted as one less grade and you need twice as many grades to ignore the signature left behind.)

But, I do want to know. What were you thinking of that they'd use to find you based on your signature? I want to look up how those will be affected by
>>
>>48177233
>Except you won't always have six complex actions worth of time to scrub away each force 3 spell you cast with if you have Beacon. Or eight and force 4, ten and force 5, and so on.

a round is 3 (or is it 6?) seconds
If you have a minute of downtime you can scrub away literally everything you do
if you don't have a minute, I doubt you can scrub away anything since you're likely in combat or something.

>But, I do want to know. What were you thinking of that they'd use to find you based on your signature?
I was under the impression that
>signature found=they know where you are

but I'll admit I didn't really read the magic rules that closely since I'm not a mage, and no one in my group is a mage either. (I'm the GM)
If I'm wrong please correct me.
>>
>>48177159
>I am running some houserules, but I can toss you a sheet if you'd like for a face I'm working on.
That would be nice.
What House Rules are you using?
>>
>>48177292
Yes, it's three seconds a round, but unless you're really specced for rounds, it's going to be one force per three seconds (effectively if you have astral beacon). So unless you're burning reagents with direct spells, every two spells in effect is a minute. And if you're not having more than two spells in effect, it's probably not a corp you're dealing with.

Signature Found has a few meanings depending on how good the assensor is. A poor one just means that there's a chance they'll remember and be able to pierce any disguise you put up (less chance if you have Flexible Signature, Masking, or both). A good one means that they'll have an idea of how powerful you are and be better able to find if you left anything behind. And Astral Beacon makes all assensors better. At the very least it means every successful looker can try to remember your signature and pass through your disguises.

Now, while you can be tracked by the astral signature, it's not super easy. Five successes minimum, one hour per roll, each hour passed means one more success needed, and here's the big thing. If you're behind a mana barrier, the force of the barrier is added to the successes needed. So if you have the Mana Barrier spell, you can add successes to the search by casting a spell. If you don't, there's the two rituals that can also put up mana barriers.

However, there's two even simpler ways. The easiest one is to have a lodge set up. You're behind a barrier of (Lodge's Force) and while it does have your signature should they find it, that's still a lot of successes they'll need to find it. The other is to have spent a few hours beforehand, and an equal number of reagents, and made a temporary lodge. It'll last till sundown or sunup, but it's cheap, can be put down near anywhere, and can make the numbers pretty high. Spend the eight hours before the run putting up a temporary lodge and for 160 NY you've made it so that the base difficulty to find you by your signature is 13.

People always talk about how toxic the water is around Hong-Kong, and act amazed when you tell them you surf there.

Now, I wouldn't go for a dip in the waters outside Kwun-Tong, the industrial district, but head to the southern coast and it's an entirely different story. As long as you don't mind being in the shadow of Wuxing's Skytower, there's plenty to see and do outside Downtown.

Aberdeen, the site of the Skytower itself, also has a wonderful fish market that draws from the best fishing spot remaining near Hong Kong. Don't feel like cooking the catch of the day yourself, go hit up one of the admittedly gaudy floating restaurants out in the harbor, and get your dim-sum and fresh fish there.

Cross the bridge over to Apleichau Island, and you'll find a free-spirited bohemian magical community that's settled there because of the good vibes that the dragon lines in the area give off. Peaceful shaman types will find a lot to enjoy there.

Ocean Park has been bought out by EVO, so it's more of a protected sea-life refuge and research lab, now, proteting and studying the Moon Dolphins and Matsyanari (a type of southeast asian Merrow). No aquarium visits anymore, though I've heard that if you're visiting for business rather than pleasure, there's a particular Matsyanari called Shan Hou that has shown a lot of aptitude for metahuman language. Wuxing and Mitsuhama both would dearly love to possess her...

Stanley is nice. In the late 2020s, the Japanese persecution lead to a flood of well-educated Filipino immigrants, and they mostly settled here. It's a sunny town full of pubs and beachside markets, with an interesting blend of Chinese, Filipino, and metahuman customs and cultures. The sound of the ocean and the rattle of mahjong tiles blend into a very soothing location, away from the blaring AR and high-paced action of the more busy areas of Hong Kong.

Whoops, comment is getting too long. Hold on a sec, I'm getting to the best part.

Here we go, this is the important part.
Shek O, my baby. Big Wave Bay is the most popular surfing destination in Asia, and it's been in use for a hundred years, ever since the sport was introduced to us. The waves are the best in Hong Kong, and you see a lot of megacorporate sponsorship being plastered on surfers during the dry-season, when all the competitions are held.

Fair warning, though: Plenty of folks will be plastered with corporate imagery, but underneath those wetsuits beat some wild hearts. There are a lot of environmentalist policlubs active in the pacific rim, and a lot of them congregate here in Shek O. You'll see members of clubs that even run out of Free California here, even members of some of the more radical groups.

Full disclosure, I used to be part of GreenWar before the group went full crazy and decided that all 'All metahumans must die to purify the planet', and they provided actual military grade training to 'active members' that would be taking part in raids. So, takeaway point? Don't carelessly litter, you might annoy someone who'll be motivated to sneak into your hotel room and smother you in your sleep, and have the skills to pull it off.

By the way, I mentioned that the all the corp sponsored surfing tournaments are in the dry season? That's because the wet season gets, uh, intense. I don't recommend it for tourists, but if you're very good, and more than a little augmented or magic, then surfing a typhoon is one of the greatest rushes on this planet.

See you out there, Omae.

Ghouls only require 1% of their body weight in metahuman flesh each week. For most ghouls in the average weight of 150 to 200 lbs, this means ghouls generally need to consume 1 and a half to two pounds a week.

Assuming a perfect, 100% conversion ratio (Pulping and ingesting the bone is tricky), basic math says that one metahuman cadaver of equal size and weight to the infected will feed a ghoul for 100 weeks, or a bit shy of two years.

This is not taking into account the pounds of flesh that the augmentation business discards as medical waste on a regular basis. Cyber-eyes are one of the most common augmentations, with some studies suggestion that as many as 75% of americans require some sort of vision correction. Even that small amount of meat adds up, as sixty people getting the cyber-eye surgery produces the 2 pounds of eyeballs, perfect Ghoul Feed.

The supposed ravenous appetite ghouls possess for metahuman flesh is overstated, and takes away from the actual dangers presented by the disease, namely it's easy communicability and the danger of 'Feral' ghouls driven mad by the pain of the infection. It is well within the ability of society to provide for ghouls even without the 'magic bullet' of force-grown immature clones, or the Yakashima Corporation's Astral Infusion initiative. Providing access to medical cadavers and organ donors would go an extremely long way toward providing for the victims of this disease.

>Ghouls only require 1% of their body weight in metahuman flesh each week

That's doubled at least, as of Storm Front (not to mention that is the basic requirement, like a prisoner eating bread and water). As well, there's the question of how fresh bodies have to be for ghouls to eat them, which 5e is frustratingly vague on (and what happens if they don't get their meal a day). It's also unclear as to whether WIMPs can be used as food, whether they have the 'metahuman aura' that is mentioned as a requirement (and the restriction on freshness).

Tamanous does use meat from sketchy doctors to supplement their food, but they're not enough people willing to hand out pieces of their patients to cover it.

1% (Now 2%? That's kind of a dumb and arbitrary change) is enough to avoid magical malnutrition, which answers the question of what happens if they don't get their meal (Malnutrition) and they can stuff their faces with other raw meats, as was previously noted, which is expensive and annoying, but about comparable with the extra costs of dealing with any other chronic illness.

Runner's Compendium does explain that cloned flesh works, but not from wimps: It has to be a full, fast-grown clone, with a working brain, which is killed for food. Naturally, this has a lot of opponents.

If you go with 'Fresh' meaning 'not rotten', a quick google search means you can keep frozen meat in the freezer for 4 to 12 months, which means you're feeding six ghouls for 4 months, or two ghouls for a year, depending on how well you store the packaged meat. Three ghouls/one ghoul, if you go by the new 2% figure.

It's more than 2%- more like 4 to 5%. It's mentioned that an orc ghoul can go through 50 pounds a meat a month, easily. In general, 5e Infected are more hungry, more violent/feral, and more varied than before.

And 'fresh' might mean more than 'not rotten'. It might mean 'fresh enough that the person's aura still hangs on it in enough quantity to satisfy their unholy hunger,' limiting it's usefulness as ghoulchow to a few hours or day. Again, not well explained.

As to your kit, you can turn off wireless to protect it, although any wireless bonuses are lost (unless it's hooked to an internal router). Remember to slave your comlinks to your NPC decker's hacking device/comlink, so they have to go through him to get to your stuff (should give you a little bit to use those wireless bonuses if things get hot).

Beyond that, with such a quick response time, make sure you do a lot of scouting on the area, try to get internal plans so you know the general layout of the estate (fire departments miiiiiight have those?).

Don't know too much else about shadowrun's rules, sorry.

It's actually a pretty cool setting and in some ways a much more coherent then SR (it doesn't have several company changes, editorial fuckups, and corporate embezzlement scandals shifting shit around like a retarded ape), but it's not very much like SR mechanically.

Some of the magical stuff in it really strongly corresponds to Shadowrun stuff and a lot of the "why does this even happen?" in regards to magic is basically answered to some degree in Earthdawn, though this became increasingly less true as time went on due to aforementioned lack of cohesion as SR kept changing hands and having problems behind the scenes.

There's also a LOT of material out there for Earthdawn, almost as much as for the Sixth World in some places.

Image-links don't record data in and of themselves. However, the thing you're going to want to connect/slave them to can. So if your glasses are wirelessly connected to your commlink, you can record all that data.

Contacts can't be usefully converted to throwbacks. There's no way to get the data because there's no way to connect. They probably also can't take a camera, but might be able to take a micro-camera if your GM lets you put a vision device in a vision device.

First, run the things silent. Second slave to a deck with a good Sleaze+Logic combo on the working end. Third, have everything sent to a more robust device. Fourth, if they're bodily on you, nobody's really going to hassle you over the tricked out glasses or other similar on-body recording devices. It would be like hassling somebody over having a blackberry.

So rather than micro-cameras, just have glasses with an image link and some enhancements, becuase if you're not outed as not belonging, it's not going to be too unusual. And if anyone has cyber-eyes, those can also record. Just send to commlink.

Why the fuck is it that everytime I go to the mall I get a bunch of dumb motherfuckers that try to kill me, my friends, each other, and the cops that try to kill all of us?

Literally every time. It could be long time enemies or strangers. I've killed more people trying to get a bite to eat, jewelry, clothes, drop off intel, whatever.

Seriously. Our troll brings along an assault cannon (hidden in a luggage case) because of the dozens upon dozens of bastards that try to jack our shit or kill us. I carry around an Ares Alpha in a dufflebag. I put two dozen assorted grenades in backpack. I strap knives and pistols in hard to find places. I gotta buy throw-away SINs and Docwagon contracts. I break kill-records. I get whole new sets of armor that I don't mind ditching after all the evil I gotta commit when I'm just trying to do menial fucking tasks.

Help me. Pic related.

(Don't get your hopes up to much, this is just a general interest)
>>
>>48189649
it varies per artist and request.
(Not the guy you asked btw)

most common factors are
- size
- color
- medium
- detail of requested commission

generally if you can draw it in 30 minutes it'll be on the cheaper side

if it will take 8 or more hours it will run on the more expensive side

ranging from 15 to 50 dollars depending on the artist on average.

See, you gotta plan around the idiocy of players literally 24/7. The correct way to do this would be for the elevator they;re in to cut out and go dark when they're on their way out, and then when the decker is rooting around in the computer system trying to turn it back on he notices terrorist deckers in the system, or can boot into the buildings CCTV and watch shit unfolding, etc. Then your situation is set up and you give the initiative and give them a chance to think and plan so they do something slightly less retarded.

Players are morons, omae. It's your job to protect them from their own stupidity.
>>
>>48190947
The party had done a few runs at that point.
This is the second campaign I've run, and they do know the rules (I asked 3 times if they wanted to burn edge) well enough.
They seem to be having fun in each campaign but they just don't care about their characters at all and whenever one person goes into overflow they decide to do the stupidest shit and get a party wipe.
This is how the first campaign ended too
>>
>>48191029
Well, seems like it's just their jam, then.
If you are okay with that then everything is allright. just go with their flow and make your game more run to run and less of a campaign.
Otherwise talk with them about it. Shadowrun is a game where it is dead easy to replace somebody in the group, because the PCs usually aren't the chosen heroes of destinies, but career criminals for hire...

Abstract attributes are such a tricky thing for people to grasp. It's your capacity to do something, and it likely has a huge influence on how you as the player want to go about doing something, but it isn't necessarily a perfect reflection of what the character's personality is like.

Out of all the mind based attributes low Log is always the one I've found the hardest to actualy roleplay well.
Low Charisma your character just behaves in a way that annoys people or have a blank slate for a personality.
Low Intuition you just need to take a while to pick up on stuff.
However low Log you have to find a way to be stupid without hindering the party.

I never considered the attributes that abstract in SR. They're there to indicate mechanical and concrete actions. A guy who has no magical ability isn't going to understand what the mage is doing (or even what he's doing in some cases) but a mage does. Willpower physically exists, because magic is observable and repeatable (thaumaturgy is a science). The way the score works is that the character's real and observable aura/spiritualitiness can channel and/or resist magical (but real) energy in the astral gobbletygook dimension, along with some typical physical shit. Similar to Charisma, which you can max out even with the "Unclouth" quality, because Charisma is based on your astral aura shit, not your outward personality or actions. That's why essence actually makes some sense to me, because it's based on your entire body having spiritual energy/souliness flowing through it, when in current observable reality all that seems to matter is that your brain is working properly firing of electrical impulses, not even necessarily in one piece.

Long story short, he thought that his high Willpower would mean he wouldn't put down his gun on an order, I said, no, that might be how your character acts which is fine, but it's not based on the Willpower level, especially not in that instance.

>>48193262
The mobster shot him with an antique revolver he was going to give them to do the hit job (a decker just bricked their weapons to make sure they'd do it the proper way with the revolver). It just happened to be in his hand when the player character reached, thinking he was going to do a russian roulette thing to them. The other players just stood there like "what are you doing"

I drew that - I'm cheap as hell, about 18£ for full body with traditional colour. Less for ink, and less for just a bust. Then again, I'm trash and that'll buy my groceries for a week because I eat garbage. Real artists will charge much more.
>>
>>48193963
He was gonna, he failed a surprise roll when the guy hit a perception test he called and reached for his gun. The player failed an intimidation check (because the mobster knew his gun was bricked) and got his head blown off.
Their fixer had said the Johnson was shady and only offered payment details and a meetup location. This was like their third run, and they had already pissed the Sicilian mob off on their first job by trashing their pizza joint while running from Lone Star. This was gonna get the mob off their back and set up a decent contact (I was even working on my Italian and New York accents dammit!). They did the job still, but didn't get the contact afterwards.

This metavariant has variations in skin tone, eye structure, ear shape, and most notably, possesses horns similar to the ingentis metatype. While the base robustus metatype has skin tone ranges similar to that of the sapiens base type, oni skin tones occur in only three shades: bright red, blue, or orange—all vibrant shades and impossible to hide without a full face mask. Beyond that, oni possess protuberant eyes, a second difficult-to-hide facial feature. Adding to the oni’s massive physical variation are ears with a greatly extended aural helix, similar to that of the nobilis metatype. An oni’s horns always rise vertically from the temples instead of exhibiting the kind of variety in shape seen in ingentis.

If you bought the gun using a fake SIN, they can track that. And if not, if you keep using the same gun in the same jurisdiction they might build up a casefile on you.

Of course, it's probably a lot easier for them to track your crimes as, "That orc runner with a duster and revolver, who hangs out with the Technomancer with the bomb Signature, the Sioux troll adept, and the Wuxing mage." Runners aren't the most inconspicuous sort.

Probably not 'hounding the city'.

It's an unspoken agreement that when a run is over, a run is over. They'll happily kill you while you're breaking into their facilities, they'll torture you for info about who hired you, and they'll blow open your safehouse to recover stolen tech before you hand it off to the Johnson, but when all that is done with they don't show up at your door with a warrant. The powers that be don't want to destroy the shadow community, because they are the ones who benefit the most from disposable assets.

That said, if you do something like set off a giant nailbomb in a public place, make a habit of murdering Lone Star officers or wagemages, or otherwise getting public attention and opinion involved, or acting in a way that either causes damages above and beyond what'd required, they'll happily come for you with a tacteam. At that point, the value you have as a shadow asset is worth less than the value for getting you off the streets.

>>48194771
If the GM uses that system, he might. But an assault rifle is an assault rifle- you're already breaking many laws just shadowrunning, using a specific variant won't ruffle feathers.

>>48194754
Signature is a quality for a reason. Nobody minds if you're a dick, at least not unless your dickishness cuts into their bottom line. A lot easier for them to throw out an origami swan at every scene than it is to hire new security guards.

Hey chummers, I've got 7 karma left over at character creation.
I don't want to get more negative qualities. I'm at -12 for those, but it feels like a good point.
I've got 21 in positive, and I think the only thing that's like 4 or less is billingual or something, and don't want that.
Question is, should I save that 6 karma for later, or use it to pump something small like something with no points in it, or my contacts (which suck atm, like 2/1 per contact with 3 contacts) or even pump it into money and maybe grab myself some extra gear or maybe a vehicle.
Character is a street sam, if that helps.

Spend it now, you'll get the most benefit out of it.

Personally I always make sure I have a car of my own. With 4-5 karma you can get a Shin-Hyung with some hidden armour, an Alpha turret (with ammo bins for rifle ammo and minigrenades), and morphing plates.

Also, fix your contacts. 2/1 is crap. Get rid of one of them, bulk up the streetdoc and arms dealer.
>>

Possibilities:
-Get a Specialisation
-Get $$$ and buy something nice with it (an additional SIN and a cheap car is always a nice thing to have in case SHTF)
-Buy off a negative quality
>>
>>48195053
Turns out I actually maxed out my karma cash on getting cyberware, so I
l'll probably just have to buy a vehicle at a later point. somewhat annoying, as apparently our rigger doesn't know what "subtle" means and got something that -screams- shadowrunner, or private army, really.

I'll probably do that.
Already have an arms dealer, was arms dealer, fixer, bartender (Alcohol addiction tends to make "friends")
>>48195082
Have one, can you only get one at character creation?
Already did, have 2 fake sins, but out of cash atm
>buy off a negative quality
Oh, that's a fairly good point.
I really don't need the addiction, it's only 4 points, which gives me 2 to spend on contacts, more once I get rid of the bartender.

Thanks, guys.
You're the best, don't let people tell you different.

That's fine. A streetdoc is a good choice for someone in the group, and a bartender friend is good RP without needing to be mechanically codified. And alcohol is an easy addiction to feed even if you don't scotch the quality, so you don't need a rules-based hookup.

>>48195154
You can have multiple specializations, but only one per skill at chargen.

Question about insect spirits. Do they have the same connection to their shaman that other spirits do? I.E. if you kill the shaman, do all the spirits pop back to their metaplane? And if you kill a bug spirit, does the shaman automatically know, as with other spirits?

I ask because SG mentions a Queen killing the shaman that summoned her when the shaman is no longer needed, which would seem to violate the rules (unless you assume the Queen can rebind all the existing spirits to her in a single action). And as the Queen has Astral Gateway, you have to wonder if the queen also has the metaphysical connection to her hive, whether she knows when spirits biff it. If she can, then killing one would be near-impossible. As soon as a spirit in the hive dies, she rips open an Astral Gateway and brings in 30 more warriors.

Alcohol's a solid one, but I'd say take nicotine addiction every fucking time if your GM allows it. Especially if you're a dwarf.

You know, it always really bugged me in Shadowrun that the expectation seems to be you're a bunch of bums off the street doing dirty shit for quick cash, yet you routinely have characters starting out with James Bond level talents in their fields of choice. It seems a bizarre level of disconnect.
>>
>>48195498
It's a stupid disconnect, there's a lot of those.

>the expectation seems to be you're a bunch of bums off the street doing dirty shit for quick cash

If you're doing street level, sure. From pg. 64 of 5e core,
>Shadowrun provides players with two alternate ways of building characters besides the normal experienced players. The first is for street-level characters; characters that have not yet had a chance to establish themselves as runners and are still in the process of earning their street cred. Obviously, these characters will not have the same gear or resources as the experienced shadowrunner. The second option is the prime runner build to create a character who has successfully been running the shadows long enough to have established their reputations as professionals in the eyes of Mr. Johnson. They possess the gear, the connections, and the talent to back up those reputations.

Default runners are experienced shadowrunners, with good skills and some work under their belt. They're not a name brand in the shadowrunning community, but they're competent and on the road to doing so, as long as they don't fuck up.

There's a reason that SINless is the default for characters. You're not some rich and talented bastards who are committing crimes for a lark. You're bastards with talent and some good gear (but not a lot of ready cash) who are systematically marginalized by society and incapable of advancing through any legal means. Daily life is a crime. You run because that's the best way for that character to use his talents to get ahead in life. They can't take their skills to a real job, they can't buy a real house or rent an apartment, they can't even walk into a store and buy food for the day.

If your options for living are a) do whatever jobs you can, to make what you can, or b) abandon society entirely and go eke out a short and miserable life in the Barrens, then you're going to think long and hard about Option A.
>>
>>48195540
Smoking is also probably the lamest addiction you can think of. It's extremely easy to get, completely legal, has negligible effects on one's mental state/physiology, and completely socially acceptable.
>>
>>48195317
The Bugs are their own little special brand of horrible. And they don't do that because, well, Bugs gotta eat. If there's not enough ready food it doesn't matter that the Queen could bring in 30, because starvation concerns mean that they won't unless they can reasonably expect a fairly immediate influx of 30 host bodies.

And more importantly, once a Queen is brought in, the Queen is a free spirit without Evanescence. No shaman needed anymore.

But what stops a queen from gating in a bunch of soldier spirits, then sending them home after the fight (minus a few lucky bugs who get to fill the shoes of any poor captured fucks)?

Evanesence takes a full day to start diminishing Force, and Astral Gateway is a complex action, sustained. She could open the door for 30 seconds, let her hivemates through, and send them home in an hour once the problem is solved. She doesn't have to keep them around forever, but given 6 seconds it's a serious problem if the Queen has the same relationship with the spirits that shamans do, in terms of the link.
>>

No, and no. When accounting for the Flechette rounds, the Roomsweeper only deals 7P. Its better to buy a Predator and load Flechette rounds.
>>
>>48195901
I'd rather have a proper shotgun (and a short-barrelled T-250 as back-up) , but if you have no skills in longarms, it is a decent option to put the hurt on drekheads packed together with some ole-fashioned buck.

Not for a primary weapon.

If you load it with shot, set the right choke, and get up on someone, it's a surprisingly effective way to flense some baddies. Pop a few rounds into their faces, run away, and chuck the gun. At 250¥, it's pretty solid as a cheap and untraceable murder weapon.
>>
>>48195942
You can't change the choke on a Predator though.
>>
>>48195923
Well, while that would make them hard to attack on the astral, note that the Bugs all have Inhabitation and Astral Form.

So without bodies, they are really limited in what they can do unless the Queen is willing to risk herself by being nearby to make everything around dual-natured.

And at that point you're basically assaulting a hive and should have Insecticide in amounts of YES, among other things.

For a complete Mundane, what's the best way to increase reaction? Wired Reflexes, I would assume, but I'm trying to find something else.
>>
>>48196255
Drugs, Wired Reflexes, or Synaptic Boosters. Boosted Reflexes exist but aren't great.

There's also the Synaptic Booster bioware and drugs. Get the drugs in better grades from a Connection 5 drug dealer contact to make them less addictive.

Wired Reflexes with Reaction Enhancers/Move-by-Wire/Synaptic Boosters for the huge boosts.

Boosted Reflexes or Lightning Reflexes if you need a slighter boost.

Is Enhance Aim worth it as a spell? F-1, 10 meter range reduction per hit, and at best you're probably removing a -3 if you take them from Extreme range to Long. Seems like a very niche spell, especially with the touch restriction.
>>
>>48196449
It sounds like it might be useful if you're a pistoleer, or can do well with Alchemy.
>>
>>48196497
Usually there's not more than one pistol-focused character in a group, though. It seems wasteful to get that spell for one character when there's other things that can benefit the whole group (though if you're a MysAd/Spell Adept with a Sustaining Focus, it might be handy).

It's not even that nice! A Medium lifestyle, two-bedroom in Tacoma. But as soon as I told the GM I wanted to spend part of the reward from our second run on a nice trid system, suddenly it's the team clubhouse.

Why can't we just hang out at a bar like normal runners.

At least they don't break in so much as they just show up whenever I'm home. I've considered having the drones run them off, but I know they've got no problem knocking them out of the air and causing me thousands of nuyen worth of repairs. And somehow it will be my fault that I don't want the neighbours to see a bunch of guys with military-grade 'ware hanging out on the porch.

I'm in a bit of a /tg/ vidya predicament here. I really like the updated HUD and character models for Orcs and Trolls in Shadowrun: Hong Kong. A lot of the characters are also really enjoyable.
However, I just personally find the story really boring. It's too restrictive for my liking and doesn't leave any room for me to put together my own character's backstory, like Dragonfall did. Also, Duncan Wu, possibly the whiniest orc on the face of the planet.

In contrast, I absolutely love the story of Dragonfall, I find it investing and interesting. There's not as many interesting characters, though, all player character models except elves look like basement-dwelling neckbeards.

As it stands I have a hard time enjoying either. I can't play Hong Kong and enjoy the better models and interface without getting bored out of my mind. and I can't enjoy the story of Dragonfall without getting annoyed at the dumpy character models. It sucks because I want to love them both.

Wat do.
