But innocent blood makes you sacrifice a creature, too, anon. Only geth's verdict in modern is a 2cmc edict with no downside.

Liliana is pretty awkward. Her + doesn't protect her very well but it can make combat tricky for your opponents, and her - is just value. I see her as more of a black-based aggro deck's value engine than the big bad threat most planeswalkers are.

Planeswalkers are casual and fun. Stop wanting everything to be Legacy playable and accept that Wizards considers Vintage/Legacy to be "complete".

Didn't Oath of the Gatewatch trash modern in a way everyone hated?

Confound only seems plot related because of the flavor text. The gatewatch stuff is at least overtly plot related not just through flavor text. Also, I'm not sure why people think Magic having recurring and identifiable characters is a bad thing. It honestly makes the story more interesting when it's not always a build up of someone and then we get whisked away from them for literal years because we're doing random plane hopping.

>>
>>48108982
I have no doubt that somebody bitched about that in exactly the same way, with exactly the same sentiment as we currently bitch about the Jacetice League.

Somebody has always been bitching about how x bit of distracting tat isn't as special or meaningful or good as previous distracting tat, and how the distracting tat has sold out and has lost sight of what it once was.

Somebody was saying your favourite stuff was shit and lost its way and had become just for noobs etc.

The subject changes but the content stays the same. It has always been like this.

Not only by flavor text, but by the art too.

http://mtgsalvation.gamepedia.com/Weatherlight_Saga_in_cards

When they said about a new way to tell a history, tell already did it. They just couldn't accept. Now they are trying to emulate the same feel in history telling, but look at the new Gatewatch Card >>48108921. It's just a random battle with two planeswalker attached in and some random flavor text.

I'm not a vorthosian guy, but I enjoyed the old way of Magic. Maybe it's just old guy rant, because the new players seem to enjoy this new tales. I just feel out of place. :<

>>48107931
>-2/-1

Fucking really? It went from acceptable to shit with one toughness. I wouldn't use it. It just does not have enough punch because its sorcery speed. You cant use it as a combat trick and you cant get rid of the pesky token spam this block or the key cards in the other formats as a kill spell.

What it really says is
>+1 target creature probably wont block this combat
>>
>>48109509
Odds of not hitting 2 8-ofs off the top seven presuming you haven't drawn any in 6 turns (12-13 cards drawn so far off 60) aren't too high and Bant PWs lists sometimes ran 10-12 walkers last I checked.

>>
>all these people saying the -2/-1 is bad
Hey, it enables some fucking white weenie hate so I'm cool with it. It's also until your next turn so I feel it can even be compared to Flip Jace +2, which is annoying as hell but she also gives / -1 so it kills the smaller guys.
>>
>>48109805
At least she is more interesting mechanically than all of last set's walkers bar Arlinn, though Tamiyo is quite a bit more interesting, though it can be difficult to judge a 3 mana walker she may end up performing better than we think right now, I mean baby Jace was considered to be shit many at first and while I don't think she is that good she might well be better than we think.
>>
>>48109779
you're right but I also don't really care, I just want a LotV reprint that isn't going to by mythic in Modern Masters 3 and thus be completely inconsequential to LotV's price tag

Just make it the story that she picks up the veil for the final time to fight Emrakul, stakes sure as hell are high enough

>>48109847

His hunt has ended. He's now just sitting around as a half-demon with a hedron in his chest.

Fine have Elspeth replace Gideon, she is far more interesting than him, then again I sincerely feel that Gideon is the least interesting of the main 5 (though I am sick of Jace being the driving force of the multiverse.) face it, the majority of players like the jacetice league and having the planeswalkers as the center of the story
>>
>>48110079
It would be realistic though. The biggest thing about the planeswalkers were that they were supposed to learn from their experiences. You start with nothing then as you witness things you start to be able to use them. Just see some mage blow a fucking building up with a fireball? Well now you can too! See an elephant stomp humans to death? Now you can summon the elephant.

I haven't seen any of the core walkers evolve their powers based on whats going on around them at all.
>>
>>48110116
They do battle with each other, completely ignoring Emrakul and the Gatewatch.
>>
>>48110116
they fight, Nahiri demands Sorin guard Innistrad like she was forced to guard Zendikar, Sorin admits he has abandoned Innistrad, Olivia hears this and attacks Sorin.

Nahiri uses this opening to seal Sorin in stone so he is forced to go down with the ship, and then she fucks off.
>>
>>48110115
Kamigawa had more than just that going against it, though.
>>
>>48110142

Magic writing has never been amazing, but the Weatherlight stories and characters were far more engaging than the Jacetice League stuff. They had real personalities, faced real threats, and incurred real consequences through their actions.

Christ, look how half of the Weatherlight's crew ended up. Now compare it to this clusterfuck of a story, where everyone acts irrationally and huge threats are swept aside with ease, and the only consequences are reserved for side characters (that are, ironically, more interesting than most of the planeswalkers WotC is pushing).

It feels like whoever is writing now is trying to simulate the high-stakes feel of the Phyrexian stuff, but without ever actually having those stakes really mean anything to to the protagonists.

Well, "love" might be a little much. Especially with a two block structure they're coming on too fast without a middle (even if the middle tended to suffer), and I don't tend to follow the Uncharted Realms because this IS still cheap paperback quality writing, but I like the plot itself. I've enjoyed the overall story since... hell, as far back as original Zendikar. Actually, Tarkir is probably the only one I haven't cared much about, but that's because everything changed so there wasn't really enough time to *have* a plot, other than Sarkhan going "I want my dragons back!"

God, at first glance I wouldn't have recognized that as one of hers. Maybe she'll come back during Return to Lorwyn.

Which will never happen...
>>
>>48111578
Nahiri wasn't "mad" she did what she did with precise calculation.

she wanted Innistrad to suffer like Zendikar did (because face it, SOME PLACE was going to suffer, and it MIGHT AS WELL be innistrad) and she wanted Sorin to have to watch over Emrakul who she intended to Seal away on Innistrad.

she had no intention of destroying Innistrad, she merely wanted it to "bleed like Zendikar Bled" and then force Sorin into the same sort of watch she was forced into.

now, don't get me wrong, this is a pretty dark and "evil" thing to do, but Sorin commited the first sin, so there is that.
>>

Well she was only red because MUH VENGEANCE, now she's stiffed Sorin presumably she will return to normal. It would be nice if she stayed crazy as a result of messing with Emrakul but I can't see Wizards having an unambiguously villainous female character, it would be way to problematic.

>>
>>48111668
it isn't really petty, she and Sorin just play a game where the peons hold no value, Sorin would kill a billion Innistradians to protect the plane itself, and he would also doom people of other planes just as quickly.

look, you have to think like someone who is a godly 6 thousand year old being.

a mortal means nothing to someone who has lived that long, you aren't even a fucking eye-blink to them, your fucking dust before they even know you.

Nahiri never cared about the people of Zendikar or Innistrad once she was this old, and neither would you.

This. Also, Sorin stopped caring about Innistrad when the Markovs died. Now he just wants to fight Nahiri. That's why Olivia got pissed off at him. "Stop being fucking children you shits!" and then Nahiri traps him in stone.
Also, Nahiri does care about the people of Zendikar, but, like, as a collective group.

I don't know why people are so pissed off and calling Nahiri evil when she's throwing peasants at Sorin. That's literally what you as the player do when you play the game.

>>
>>48112042

Yes, they can send creatures to attack the walker, or use burn spells that target players against it. Damage removes loyalty counters, and when it hits 0, it goes to the graveyard.
>>
>>48112042
She's a planewalker (just like you) so basically any card that deal damage/attack you can target her. So yes, she needs to stay alive. Her +1 should help her to stay alive but some creature that blocks might help.
>>
>>48112042
If they ever attack her in combat, or damage you (the player) out of combat, they can opt to have that damage hit Lili removing as many counters as damage is dealt.
She has to not be damaged at all for 5 turns, provided you don't gimmick her loyalty up with things like Doubling Season, The Chain Veil, or Proliferate mechanics, which are all pretty difficult in general.

Usually you play a Planewalker for the + and - abilitites, providing they are good. Usually the 2 ability provide: resource advante and self-protection. As you can she, she does both.

Getting her ultimate (3rd ability) to go off is doable but at that point you are in control of the game and it helps to just end it. That's how most walker are designed, of course then there is variation.

He didn't form the Nine Titans out of a sense of duty or to unite them. He did it because he needed their power. He included an evil asshole in the group specifically so that the evil asshole would kill one of them so he could use his soul to power a bomb. There's nothing white in that.

>>48112129

Exactly, and Urza discovered that after 3 millennia of planning to kill phyrexia.

He also discovered that Gix, the demon who corrupted his brother, was a thran hero turned to phyrexia

After that point he had to basically admit that the heroes he admired for all his life were also his mortal enemy. That also adds charm to it. They're everything he could dream off, unlimited artifice, yet they're completely evil, and he sees that.

Yawgmoth tempts him with his guilt, not with his hunger or curiosity

Lots of options senpai.
>>
>>48112136

That's certainly debatable, there are ways to manipulate people into helping without putting your own neck on the block like he did, and his defence of Dominaria was motivated as much by his desire to protect innocents from the consequences of his actions as it was by his hatred of Phyrexia. Eldritch Moon begins minutes after Shadows Over Innistrad ends.
Avacyn was a planar shield over Innistrad that prevented non-planeswalkers from getting in. With her destruction the Eldrazi or Myojin or any other extraplanar non-planeswalker can access Innistrad again. Nahiri deliberately engineered this; Shadows Over Innistrad was just a plot to kill Avacyn.

The difference is that while Sorin may show a callous disregard for the lives of others, but he didn't deliberately sabotage a plane's defenses and invite !Shub-Niggurath onto an already shakey planet just to flip the bird to someone who crossed him.

A plot to make Sorin kill Avacyn. To be an asshole. I'm still thinking of this as like... Sorin backstabbed Nahiri in a game of EDH/Commander a while back, and didn't think much of it, but Nahiri held a grudge. So while Sorin brought his normal deck to EDH tonight, Nahiri brought an asshole deck specifically designed to fuck over Sorin.
>>
>>48112525
Sorin put Nahiri in a very, very vexing and anger inducing situation.

over a conflict that didn't even matter to her, she was merely trying to prove her worth to Sorin so he'd stop treating her like a baby.

Sorin was a critical state and reacted poorly to this show of dominance and so here we are.

he could have let her out of the Helvault at any time, but he chose to "tie the loose end" and now his plane is fucked.

I didn't say Kaladesh shouldn't have Chandra, though it'd be nice I just don't want it to be entirely about her and only her. The different factions and groups should dwarf her presence.

The same goes with Vryn, a place I'd actually like to see.
>>
>>48112685
She's a cunt, bleeders can't be evil under the new feminazi media dictatorship.
You'll bow down to her inherent moral superiority or you're a cis het shitlord that needs to stop being so problematic.

Thank god eternal formats exist.
Except most of the universally used staples cost 20 bucks upwards per card and it's literally nothing but an uphill battle against austismobux beneficiaries whose entire life revolves around MtG

>>48112762
Seconding this. The major appeal of zendikar and innistrad was the actual plane, this new over-arching plot has changed the focus of the cards and what little story there is. Now I'm no longer summoning creatures from other planes to do battle for me or casting magic spells taught by the various mages of planes, each with a different twist, now it's more like playing movie clips at each other
>>
>>48112732
If het +1 was Disfigure instead or Weaken I'd run her in Legacy because she'd kill Stoneforge, Delver, Deathrite, Goblin Guide and Eidolon of the Great Revel. Her emblem is actually a good secondary wincon for black control decks like Pox, Gate and Rack.

As she is, she's shit.
>>
>>48112869
Considering it's going to be the first set built entirely around the 2-block structure? Yep, sounds like a designated shitting area to me.

oh its funny, I just mean that for a second I couldn't understand why they thought it was a good idea to make a plane that everybody would make fun off.

I will be furious the day that the Jacetice league set foot on Dominaria.
>>
>>48113315
>but "Phyrexia is slowly rebuilding"
Without Yawgmoth, Phyrexia collapsed into aetheric nothingness.
New Phyrexia is not directly related to old Phyrexia at all. It is just the natives of Mirrodin infected by the oil, which is encoded with all the information for an autonomous Phyrexian civilization.

I don't remember.
>>
>>48113706
without the upkeep of the creator yes.

Karn made it BTW. and he made it only a few hundred years ago.

if Phyrexia is any comparison it has roughly 10k years left.
>>
I would sacrifice an entire plane just to put my dick in a corpse reanimated by Liliana.
>>
>>48112497
>>48112424
I don't really think it's "minutes" later, not only has the mutation grown, but there's a lot of stuff that indicates time passed, like the Cryptolith Fragment. Although, no, not simultaneous.
Also, did Nahiri even know Avacyn was the lynchpin? I just thought she was mad at what Avacyn did to her. Did Nahiri even actually do anything with Avacyn? I too thought she was just going crazy due to Emrakul. Everyone's crazy because of Emrakul. We'rmrakul.
Nahiri was mostly using the Cryptoliths to get Emrakul to come, and stirring up the villagers against the vampires.

>>48112432
He's a fucking Planeswalker. He could have done anything, he chose to Vindicate.

>>48112523
Why the fuck would Joe Dirt Farmer help Sorin? He's literally a Goddamned vampire, and also they're all with Nahiri, since people on Innistrad will worship literally anything bigger than a 5/5.

>>48112525
Honestly Sorin as a person seems worse. He wasn't really providing jolly cooperation or anything. He was less enthused to help out than Liliana.

>>48112622
Sorin destroyed the defenses. Hell, Sorin started it by throwing Nahiri in the Hellvault.
Nahiri played Emeria, The Sky Ruin on turn one and on turn three Sorin played Rain of Tears and Nahiri got manascrewed. When she finally had the mana she started fucking with Sorin right back.
>>
>>48113706
They need constant mana and occasional maintenance.
Mirrodin has five mana-suns and its creator was happy to pop in now and then.
Now that it's New Phyrexia, I can only guess the praetors will have to learn how to stabilize a plane.
>>
>>48113738
Ok, the phyrexians still have some time to try sciencing their way out I guess.
I'm guessing Karn can't just unmake the plane because mending or something?
>>
>>48112610
Boo fucking hoo, he basically killed his star pupil. Do you people not get that? He literally gave her a fate worse than death. Fuck, I wouldn't be surprised if Avacyn was a little coocoo for Cocoa Puffs before Nahiri started simply from being in the Helvault for a year.

>>48112685
>Mental breakdown
Why the hell do you think she's Red? What is there to break?

>>48112832
Go the fuck back to r/TheRedPill

>>48112734
>not unlike Shadows Over Innistrad.
Shh. Don't bring logic into this. You know that in SOI we got a new Gideon and Nissa and Chandra, too. It's only been returning characters. No new Planeswalkers at all.
>>
>>48113946
...it was just a year? I thought it was WAY more than that.
>>
>>48113920
I don't think Karn would want to unmake his plane until the last innocent Mirran is dead. He's a pacifist to the core, and choosing to fight for the liberation of Mirrodin was a huge departure for him.
>>
>>48112957
>>48112886
Do you people even pay attention to the game, or what? Because according to you, the only characters involved in the story at all period are Gideon, Jace, Chandra, and Nissa, with Liliana just joining up.
For fucks sake, I'm pretty sure the story of Lorwyn/Shadowmoor lasted longer, but you people act like we've been at this for six years instead of six months.
>This. Zendikar and Innistrad were reduced to backdrops for planeswalkers to do punch monsters in front of.
Zendikar was already a plane of punching monsters, and for fucks sake the main theme of SOI was INVESTIGATION.
>>
>>48113607
>And imprison Emrakul, which is already a much better reason.
She didn't imprison squat, anon.

That was Tamiyo and the Jacetice League, whom Nahiri had no way of possibly knowing even existed, considering she started fucking up Innistrad's defenses and prepping Emrakul's arrival the second she got out of the Helvault.
>>
>>48113195
>Becoming the group's target
I don't like to play Commanders who say "please punch me in the face".
Just kidding, I play Savra. Hope you don't like creatures

>>48113988
I don't know. Time is sketchy. Other anons have said she was gone for a year, so I figure that's as good a time frame as any to assume.
>>
>>48113946
>Why the hell do you think she's Red? What is there to break?
The last belief that she was enacting vengeance, and therefore (in her twisted view) on the side of justice. The fact that Zendikar survived may yet break her.
Though, Innistrad survived too, so I guess not...
>>
>>48113994

>mfw sometime, soon, Karn will likely kill each and every one of them, until only Elesh Norn is left asking "Father, why? We only wanted you to love us."

I miss the pre-Uncharted realms era, where most of the story was just snippets seen in card art and each individual could interpret the specifics.

Humanity was not nearly destroyed. It was shitty, but Innistrad was still able to survive. Emrakul is defeated. Innistrad will clean up, smell like fish for a few months, and then go back to cowering in their beds at every bump in the night, same as before.
